Passing an access token to Facebook.init()

According to its API documentation, the Facebook.init() method allows you to pass an existing access token. This would be very useful to my project, so I created a test app on Facebook and followed these instructions to get a user's oauth_token via PHP. Once that's done, my PHP script passes the token to my SWF using FlashVars, after which the SWF calls Facebook.init() with the existing token.
All of this works fine (the app launches in Facebook and the SWF plays), but it produces what I consider to be an unexpected result: The access token I pass to Facebook.init() is not the same as the access token in the resulting FacebookAuthResponse object.
Is this by design? If so, what's the point of passing an existing access token to Facebook.init()?

I'll answer my own question in case it helps someone else, and especially since the Facebook-ActionScript API is becoming outdated and fragile (calling Facebook.init() is broken even in Adobe's own tutorial).
In short, my method of verifying a user via PHP and passing the access token to the SWF means my application doesn't need to call Facebook.init(). In fact, once my SWF begins executing, it can use the access token passed to it via FlashVars like this:
Facebook.api("/me/friends?access_token=" + accessToken, getFriendsHandler);

  • How do i get a long lived 60 days access token to post messages on facebook ? Getting exception error

    I created just now a new app in the facebook site: https://developers.facebook.com
    I have a new access token but its for short time will expire after 2 hours or so.
    And i also got the app id and app secret code.
    This is how im trying to use it:
    private string PostFacebookWall(string accessToken, string message)
    var responsePost = "";
    try
    //create the facebook account object
    var objFacebookClient = new FacebookClient(accessToken);
    var parameters = new Dictionary<string, object>();
    parameters["message"] = message;
    responsePost = objFacebookClient.Post("feed", parameters).ToString();
    catch (Exception ex)
    responsePost = "Facebook Posting Error Message: " + ex.Message;
    return responsePost;
    In this method PostFacebookWall its working now with the new access token i can post on my wall.
    But since it will expire in few hours i want to make it longer access token for 60 days. So i have this method:
    public static string RenewToken(string existingToken)
    var fb = new FacebookClient();
    dynamic result = fb.Get("oauth/access_token",
    new
    client_id = ,
    client_secret = "",
    grant_type = "fb_exchange_token",
    fb_exchange_token = existingToken
    return result.access_token;
    Si called the method RenewToken in my constructor and used with my current access token code and im getting this exception:
    (OAuthException - #1) The access token does not belong to application 1378943962355167
    Strange since i checked double time and got the app id and secret from the current app.
    This is the full exception error message:

  • Provision to secure access token (For OAuth2.0 User Authentication)

    Hi,
    May i check if there are any provision in place to secure an access token ?
    For example, facebook use app secret prof (sha256 hash) to encrypt their access token, but i am able to see any security best practice in the documentation. Please direct me if i might have missed that portion out.
    Reference :
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh243647.aspx

    I think that as you are using Azure AD for the OAuth authentication, the fact that the tenant is configured to use ADFS (single sign-on) shouldn't change the OAuth flow from client/caller perspective. What permissions have you configured for SharePoint
    in Azure AD? I guess the error comes from Azure AD, before or after ADFS authentication?
    This seems like a similar issue (with no resolution either).

    This only occurs on the workflows that have been designer in SharePoint Designer 2013, when the using the template ones (for example the three-state) they run fine. Have searched the internet to no avail on the error but believe it is something to do with
    the server settings and permissions. Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that Sharepoint Workflow get the Access Token Error.
    I reoconmend that you can properly configure the HTTPS endpoint and then re-register the workflow farm with SharePoint.
    The snippet below assumes that you have exported the SSL certificate from the workflow manager IIS web site to c:\wfm.cer.
    $cert = Get-PfxCertificate "c:\wfm.cer"
    New-SPTrustedRootAuthority -Name "Workflow Manager Farm" -Certificate $cert
    Register-SPWorkflowService -SPSite "http://dev.sharepoint.com" -WorkflowHostUri "https://devmachine
    In addition, it may caused by
    a mismatch between SharePoint and Workflows. You can install a new version workflow manger and sharepoint designer to check whether it works.

  • Lifetime of a session and/or access token

    Hi folks,
    I try to authenticate via API using both session IDs and oAuth access tokens.
    Does anybody know how long such a session ID (retrieved with a SAML assertion) is valid? And, while we are on it: what is the lifetime of an access token?
    Or, from a developers point of view: How can I retrieve the lifetime of both items programmatically after I retrieved them - is it somewhere coded into the response?
    Thanks & regards
      Mathias

    Hi Mathias,
    I do not know about SAML session IDs, but the lifetime of an OAuth access token is currently not limited (that is, as long as it is not revoked). AFAIK there is no way to retrieve the lifetime. My colleague Ruediger may be able to give you some information on the lifetime of SAML session IDs.

  • [office365 Exchange online][MVC5][EWS Managed Api] Need a hack to get access token ?

    Hi there, I am using following code example to get access token from Azure AD online. I need to bridge EWS managed api with office 365 Api via Azure AD. The below code is working just fine in my MVC application but I am looking for a way to get the access
    token in simple string returning  function so that I can use it to make call against EWS mananged api.
    private static string tempToken = "";
    public static string GetAccessToken()
    return tempToken;
    internal static async Task<OutlookServicesClient> EnsureOutlookServicesClientCreatedAsync(string capabilityName)
    var signInUserId = ClaimsPrincipal.Current.FindFirst(ClaimTypes.NameIdentifier).Value;
    var userObjectId = ClaimsPrincipal.Current.FindFirst("http://schemas.microsoft.com/identity/claims/objectidentifier").Value;
    AuthenticationContext authContext = new AuthenticationContext(Settings.Authority, new NaiveSessionCache(signInUserId));
    try
    DiscoveryClient discClient = new DiscoveryClient(Settings.DiscoveryServiceEndpointUri,
    async () =>
    var authResult = await authContext.AcquireTokenSilentAsync(Settings.DiscoveryServiceResourceId,
    new ClientCredential(Settings.ClientId,
    Settings.AppKey),
    new UserIdentifier(userObjectId,
    UserIdentifierType.UniqueId));
    return authResult.AccessToken;
    var dcr = await discClient.DiscoverCapabilityAsync(capabilityName);
    return new OutlookServicesClient(dcr.ServiceEndpointUri,
    async () =>
    var authResult = await authContext.AcquireTokenSilentAsync(dcr.ServiceResourceId,
    new ClientCredential(Settings.ClientId,
    Settings.AppKey),
    new UserIdentifier(userObjectId,
    UserIdentifierType.UniqueId));
    return authResult.AccessToken;
    catch (AdalException exception)
    //Handle token acquisition failure
    if (exception.ErrorCode == AdalError.FailedToAcquireTokenSilently)
    authContext.TokenCache.Clear();
    return null;
    This is an excerpt from Microsoft single tenant application in MVC5.  In the code, I have created a function called GetAccessToken() which does nothing.. I am hoping you experts can help me figure out how to transfer the accessToken from EnsureOutlookServcesClientCreated
    function which is actually returning token, to  my GetAccessToken() so that I can make call against EWS managed Api. Sorry, If I sound pretty stupid but I really need your help in this regard.
    best regards,

    Yes sir, Let me try to explain me about my scenario. I need to use EWS managed Api with office 365 Rest Api to get benefits from both the Apis. Here is here code I am using to connect to EWS managed Api but it is failing with 401:Unauthorized.  I already
    have "Full Access" turned on in Azure AD.  I have the access token from AZure AD and want to use it to make call against EWS managed Api.
    var outlookClient = await AuthHelper.EnsureOutlookServicesClientCreatedAsync("Mail");
    //IPagedCollection<IMessage> messagesResults = await outlookClient.Me.Messages.ExecuteAsync();
    // Get the ID of the first message.
    // string messageId = messagesResults.CurrentPage[0].Id;
    string tokenx = AuthHelper.GetAccessToken();
    ExchangeService service = new ExchangeService(ExchangeVersion.Exchange2013);
    service.HttpHeaders.Add("Authorization", "Bearer " + tokenx);
    service.PreAuthenticate = true;
    service.SendClientLatencies = true;
    service.EnableScpLookup = false;
    service.Url = new Uri("https://outlook.office365.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx");
    // Get all the folders in the message's root folder.
    ExFolder rootfolder = ExFolder.Bind(service, WellKnownFolderName.MsgFolderRoot);S
    Scenario of my migration application:
    1. I have a Gmail mailbox email in Raw(complete email in base64-urlsafe with attachments) format with RFC2822. I need to migrate this mailbox to Exchange online. I believe EWS managed Api has better support on this one.
    2.  Likewise I need to migrate Gmail Calendars, Tasks and Contacts to Exchange online.
    I would be highly grateful to you , if you tell me how to bridge EWS managed Api with office 365 Api.
    best regards,

    Could you please explain me the situation and if there is any solution to this issue.

    When I download the converted document from the server it has only 1kb.
    I assume this is a server error.

  • Invalid Access Token in Script

    Hey folks!
    I was hoping to set up a copy of my local Pictures directory from my home server to OneDrive, so I was following the blog

    This led me to the

    To answer the first question - just putzing around really on Windows 2012 Essentials, which can't run the SkyDrive app. Trying to see if a basic copy to SkyDrive would work using a PowerShell script.
    Go back and read the article very carefully.  THe token is initially only good for an hour.  You need to change the request.
    Sit down and read slowly while testing each bit of code presented.  You need to do it in three steps.
    1. Acquire current token.
    2. Apply token to session
    3. Get folder.

  • Access Token Refresh for Computer Objects

    This question kind of crosses over to the OS side so pardon me if this should be in another forum.
    When granting access to computer objects using security groups, as far as I understand, a restart of the server is required in order to refresh the access token for the new group membership to take effect.  However, more than often we're not able to do
    it (especially for servers) for availability reason.  Is there any way to refresh the access token without a restart?  I believe there isn't but just try to throw it out there and see if there's any workaround......
    Thank you

    > When granting access to computer objects using security groups, as far

    Not really :)
    "psexec -s klist purge" drops all computer ticktes. On next access to
    whatever, the computer will pick a new tgt with updated group memberships.

  • Can I obtain access token from ADFS 3.0 based on OAuth ACS-token that I already have?

    Hello!
    I have the following setup: iOS device, ACS/WAAD is IDP and ADFS 3.0 as RP, securing access to WIF web service.
    I want iOS application users to be able to access ADFS-protected web-service.
    I have created some users in WAAD, configured trust between ACS IDP and ADFS RP.
    ADFS is registered in WAAD with AppID = ADFSAppID
    I am doing the following request in order to obtain authorization token for iOS app user from ACS:
    const string issuerName = "[email protected]";
    const string issuerPassword = "Password!23";
    var authContext = new AuthenticationContext("https://login.windows.net/ADFSAppID");
    var uc = new UserCredential(issuerName, issuerPassword);
    var result = authContext.AcquireToken("http://adfs.appdomain.com/adfs/services/trust",
    "ADFSAppID",
    uc);
    _authHeader = result.CreateAuthorizationHeader();
    So, I have a token from ACS in JWT format.
    Now I need to present this token to ADFS in order to obtain a new token that I can use to access the web-service. I am trying the following POST-query:
    https://adfs.appdomain.com/adfs/oauth2/token?grant_type=authorization_code&code={0}&client_id=ADFSAppID&redirect_uri=http://web_service_url
    However, when I try accessing web service with that token, I am getting 403:unauthorized and redirected back to ADFS.
    I have already tries lots of code solutions, such as
    http://leastprivilege.com/2010/10/28/wif-adfs-2-and-wcfpart-6-chaining-multiple-token-services/
    http://www.cloudidentity.com/blog/2013/07/30/securing-a-web-api-with-windows-server-2012-r2-adfs-and-katana/
    http://blog.scottlogic.com/2015/03/09/OAUTH2-Authentication-with-ADFS-3.0.html
    But somehow the problem remains: I cannot get such authentication token from ADFS that it is accepted by my webservice as a valid token.
    Can anybody provide any links or code samples of token exchange between ACS and ADFS?

    Yes, it is. I was able to authenticate normally, if I am using ADFS as IdP for WIF RP.
    But when Azure is IdP for ADFS-protected WIF WS, I am unable to get tokens that would be accepted by WIF WS

  • Is there a way to pass or access the FileGlobals of the main sequence from an ActiveX subsequence that runs in parallel?

    I developed an elborate avionics Test Bench using the data types and FileGlobals to define all of my instruments and signals. The instruments have some minor changes between Test Bench's and the signals change between projects. The actual LabVIEW VI's were written so that they would be generic, in nature, and rely on spreadsheets to determine what inputs and expected outputs are to be tested and use the FileGlobals to determine how to process each signal from this extensive data structure. This methodology has worked well so far. Now I have the need to read some of the signals being output by the black box and compute a signal as input. The black box it very particular about the timing related to how fast this input changes in response to the outputs.
    Anyway, I was able to develop another sub-sequence within the main sequence and have it run as a parallel process. The problem that I have is that this extensive FileGlobals data structure is shown in the sub-sequence, but all of the data is zero or blank. What I really need is the FileGlobal data in the sub-sequence to be equal to the FileGlobals data of the main sequence at the time the ActiveX sequence is started OR have some way to access the main sequence FileGlobals from the ActiveX sub-sequence. I was able to use the when doing a Action of "call method" and a moethod of "NewExecution" to start the sub-sequence. The problem is that the data passed was only the first element in the FilGlobals structure and not the entire FileGlobals.
    I have TestStand version 1.0.3 . I know, the answer is usually to upgrade, but I have my own company and am sub-contracting at this company. It took me a month to convince this company that TestStand was the way to go rather than use the old LabVIEW Test Executive that they still have. The point is that it may be difficult to get them to get a later version and at this point I do not have time to wait for a upgrade. So I need to determine an easy way to impliment this with the existing version of TestStand.
    Any pointers on how you might solve this problem would be appreciated. You can email me directly at [email protected] .
    Thank you for your help!

    William,
    As you alluded, TestStand 2.0 has better solutions to this problem than TestStand 1.0.x. These include
    1) Executing the subsequence on a different thread but under the same execution. The file globals are then common to the calling and called sequence. The improved Sequence Call step type gives you this option.
    2) There is a new sequence file property that provides that "All Executions Share the Same File Globals".
    The reason that the file globals are not shared between your 2 sequences is that they are each executed as separate executions. That is, they are each executed using the NewExecution method. With each new execution a run-time copy of the sequence is made, including the file globals.
    I am assuming that you want to execute the subsequence asynchronously (i.e. in parallel) to the MainSequence and therefore must use the NewExecution method to do so. Since you must use TestStand 1.0.3 then the best option is to pass the file globals to the new execution as sequence parameters. It sounds like you tried this but had difficulties. The steps to do this are:
    A) Create parameters in your called sequence that mirror the file globals that you want to pass from your MainSequence.
    B) Create a new data type that is a container. The subproperties of this container must mirror the parameters in your called sequence. It is important that they are in the same order as the parameters.
    C) Create an instance of this container data type as variable.
    D) Pass this variable as the parameter of the NewExecution method.
    I have attached an example of how to do this. I have 2 file globals that I want passed, Number and String. I have another file global that is an instance of the parameter container that I pass with the NewExecution method (could also have made as local variable). Any time I update the values of the containers subproperty, the changes are available in the executing "subsequence". Therefore, I must update the value of these container subproperties every time I want to have access to new file global values. There is clearly some redundancy here in that my MainSequence must copy the Number and String values to the container subproperties. If fact, it may be better to simply delete the Number and String file globals and simply use the subproperties of the container directly.
    You probably have to play around with the example to synchronize the change of the file globals with the message popups in the subsequence. In TS 2.0 I would have synchronized them with the new synchronization step types.
