Passing Arguments to the report in publication

Hello,
we are running into an issues related to an argument passed to the report from dynamic recipient report.
1. We have prompt parameter L1 Sub Region which filters data for the sub region.
    We set up dynamic recipient report and in personalization we assign L1 sub region to be supplied from dynamic recipient.
   What happens is as follows:
   We have 9 reports generated - which is absolutely fine (each report for each sub region) however reports remain empty.
   If we run the report manually and provide data to L1 Sub Region from prompt - data is there.
   Does anybody know what the issue might be?
2. Is it possible to assign value to the variable in report itself from dynamic recipient report?
Regards,
Michal

Hi Michal,
1. What is the source of the data for the Webi report used for dynamic recipients? (Is it an Excel file, Universe etc.?)
2. To achieve this, you can create a section in your report on Sub Region. Set the section as the primary section (on top of page) and make sure to enable "start on new page" in the properties of the section. In the query pane, remove the prompt for Sub Region.
When you refresh the report in WebI, you will then have n pages depending on how many Sub Regions you have. Assign the dynamic recipients ID to the universe objects (sub regions). This should accomplish having the filter in the report instead of at the query level.
However I am not sure if option 2 will solve your problem. I have a suspicion that the problem occurs due to the format of your Recipient ID (which in particular is a problem, when the source data is non-universe i.e. Excel, CSV etc.). Hence my question in the first section above.

  • How to pass argument to the Java Plugin JVM w/o using the Control Panel?

    I want to deploy an applet to be loaded by the Java Plug In
    and fix some settings of its Java Virtual Machine.
    The JPI Control Panel offers two ways to pass arguments to the JVM,
    none satisfactory.
    1. while interactive via the Control Panel Window.
    This cannot be a solution for a deployed applet.
    or
    2. by editing the system generated file that stores
    the settings of the Plugin Control Panel, using a property
    named javaplugin.jre.params.
    The problem with this method is that if forces to access
    and edit this property file which is stored at various locations
    depending the client platform. Then, it may collide with other
    settings for other applets.
    Is there a way to pass the arguments to the JVM
    from within the html file?
    Has anyone found a solution to this question?
    JPS

    I am interested in this issue as well.
    Did anyone find a reliable way to specify the runtime parameters that should be used by the Java Plug-in in order to execute a given Java applet?
    I believe a good place to specify these runtime parameters would be the applet's JAR manifest: only digitally signed applets should be able to set the desired runtime parameters...
    Any comments / suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

  • [LV - TS] How to execute a SEQ file, get the result (PASS/FAIL) and the report file ?

    Hello,
    I'm looking for the most obvious and simple way to, from Labview :
    1- Start the Teststand engine : DONE
    2- Get a list of SEQ files to execute : DONE
    3- Loop through the list to execute each SEQ file : <- found some examples but I have some trouble with the UIMessage stuff

    4- Get the result of the SEQ execution : <- unsure
    5- Get the XML path+name of the report file generated : <- obviously not easy

    Hello,
    I tried to work from this example :
    http://forums.ni.com/t5/NI-TestStand/Execution-of-TestStand-Sequence-in-LabVIEW-via-TS-API-Different/td-p/2939616/page/2#M46686
    However it remains unclear about how to get a simple
    answer from just running a sequence file out of any
    model so far (Simple Pass). Like I told you, all what
    I need, once the TS engine is started, is a VI with the
    following interface :
    INPUT
    1- TS engine reference
    2- SEQ file path (path or string)
    3- Sequence name to execute
    4- UUT string (optional, but yeah)
    5- error in
    OUTPUT
    1- Result boolean (PASS/FAIL)
    2- Path to XML report
    3- error out
    It would be so cool to just have this
    About the surrounding UI, I'm working on it. The LV
    code is not really important at this point, it's running
    a SEQ file that matters to me.

  • Passing arguments to the JVM for a certain project

    Hello!
    in our project we need to set some JVM-arguments
    like "-Denvironment.setting=local"
    but i can't figure out how to do that in the Studio Creator IDE
    maybe you have a solution
    thx in advance

    For a web application, the JVM properties indeed need to be set for the application server's JVM and as such it cannot be set in the IDE. (The IDE cannot pass the parameters anyway since it merely invokes the commands provided by the appserver to start/stop/deploy-apps).
    To solve your problem, you will need to set the JVM arguments at the appserver. You can set the JVM arguments in the admin console of the appserver. If you jush wish to set some environment properties for a given webapp, then you can use 'System.setProperty("environment.setting","local");' in the app's initialization code.

  • Pass query to the report through form

    Hello everybody...
    I m using forms and reports 6i.
    I create query through form depends on user selection.
    Means user select specified columns from specific table. And finally i create complete query.
    Now i wanna pass that query to report builder and wants to generate automatic report depends on that query.
    Can anybody have idea how to do this?
    How to pass query from form and generate report.
    If any1 knows then please help me

    You should pass all columns but with separator character i.e.:
    supl_cd||';'|| supl_name ||';' city ||';'|| add1 ||';'|| add2 ||';'|| pincode ||';'|| country my_column
    You should also pass column names if you want and get them back using the same procedure.
    Procedure for retrieving should use instr,loop and srw.do_sql, if you don't know what is SRW built in package, then take a look in report's help. That's a pity that there is nothing similar in forms. You can use dynamic select to pass values exactly to the report's variables:
    for i in 1..10 loop
    srw.do_sql('select '||i||' into :cp_'||i||' from dual');
    end loop;

  • Passing arguments to the jsx file from command line

    Thanks for taking my question.
    I am using the following to be able to run my script from the command line.In case you were wondering on why i would be doing this- i would need to invoke the javascript from a server side code(like java,php etc. in my case it is java)
    "c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Utilities\ExtendScript Toolkit\ExtendScript Toolkit.exe" "c:\path to script\myscript.jsx"
    Anyways, i have been successful in running the myscript.jsx from the command line but i am not able to figure out how i could pass arguments to "myscript.jsx" from the command line, and be able to refer to these arguments within the script.
    I have tried the following
    "c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Utilities\ExtendScript Toolkit\ExtendScript Toolkit.exe" "c:\path to script\myscript.jsx" "argument1" "argument2"
    and tried to refer these arguments within the script using arguments[0] and arguments[1] . But looks like this does not work.
    Any thoughts?????

    To run JavaScript from the prompt using ExtendScript Toolkit 1.0.3 or 2.0.2 you need to do the following:
    Add the line #target indesign to the top of your script otherwise ESTK will open without executing the script. Example:
    #target indesign
    //MakeDocumentWithParameters.jsx
    //An InDesign CS2 JavaScript
    //Shows how to use the parameters of the document.open method.
    //The first parameter (showingWindow) controls the visibility of the
    //document. Hidden documents are not minimized, and will not appear until
    //you add a new window to the document. The second parameter (documentPreset)
    //specifies the document preset to use. The following line assumes that
    //you have a document preset named "Flyer" on your system.
    var myDocument = app.documents.add(true, app.documentPresets.item("Flyer"));
    //SaveDocumentAs.jsx
    //An InDesign CS2 JavaScript
    //If the active document has not been saved (ever), save it.
    if(app.activeDocument.saved == false){
    //If you do not provide a file name, InDesign will display the Save dialog box.
    app.activeDocument.save(new File("/c/temp/myTestDocument.indd"));
    Ensure Indesign is open. Execute the following command:
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Utilities\ExtendScript Toolkit\ExtendScript Toolkit.exe" -run "[path to script]\script.jsx"
    For example:
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Utilities\ExtendScript Toolkit\ExtendScript Toolkit.exe" -run "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS2\Presets\Scripts\test.jsx"
    This command can be easily called from Java or any other third party application of your choice.
    It took me a while to find this information, so I thought I'd share it with everyone.
    Good luck!

  • Help Needed in passing parameter to cryst report

    Hello everyone, I am trying to create a report for a single record and as such am trying to pass parameters to a crystal report but I am not sure exactly how to do this. This is my own method that I am employeeing. I do not want to create a data table and put all the info I need in there and then base a report off of it. I do not want to deal with loops and arrays right now. I just want to pass for example parameter JuvenileID = 1 to my crystal report, then create a command under the database expert and set the parameter for my command to the parameter I passed my crystal report. How would I go about in doing this? I am using VS 2010 C#. This is a windows application. I have a dataentry form that is already populated with the info needed for the report. I just need to pass all the controls.text values to the report and populate it that way.

    I'm not sure if I fully understand the issue, but since you have all the data you need in a data entry form that is already populated, why don't you simple create an ADO .NET Dataset and pass that to the report? Much easier to implement, faster execution with the small amount of data you have and less code.
    Dataset sample app is here:

  • How can I pass arguments to a TestStand sequence with LabWindows 6 ?

    Hi
    I have created sequences in a TestStand file.
    I want to program a sequence with Labwindows 6 which would call all these existing sequences (containing parameters).
    I don't have any problems to create the steps "SequenceCall" but i don't know how to pass arguments to the sequences with the TS API.
    I have used the look-up strings "TS.SData.SFPath", "TS.SData.SeqName", "TS.SData.ThreadOpt" to program the sequence file / sequence and the multithread option. But now how to program the arguments passing ? I think there is something with the lookup string "ST.SData.ActualArgs"...
    Thank u very much for any help

    I'm not sure if you want to pass values from TestStand to LabWindows or if you want to pass values in TestStand from a sequence call step to a called sequence.
    To get TestStand variables from LabWIndows, use the following function:
    tsErrChk (TS_PropertyGetValNumber(testData->seqContextCVI, &errorInfo, "Locals.StartPoint", 0, &dStartPt));
    iStartPt = (int)dStartPt;
    The TS_PropertyGetValNumber gets the TestStand variable Locals.StartPoint and puts it into the LabWindows variable called dStartPoint. Numbers to and from Test Stand are always a double type. The next line converts it to an integer.
    To put a LabWindows value to TestStand, use TS_PropertyPutValNumber.
    To pass values from a sequence call step to a called sequence, create variables in the Parameters t
    ab on your main sequence. Create same variables on the Parameters tab of the called sequence. In main, specify module to be called in calling step. There is a paramters section on the Edit Sequence Call dialog box which appears. Check the Use Prototype of the Selected Sequence box. You can then list all the parameter variables in the parameters section.
    Hope this is what you want.

  • The report parameter 'param1' is read-only and cannot be modified. (rsReadOnlyReportParameter)

    hey guys..
    I'm trying to get the report that I need to be filtered by a parameter value (named Param1)
    I created a parameter in the data tab and tried to pass a value from my Web application to the report services.. now my report have that textbox that prompts me to enter the filtering value for the report I want.. everything works fine till this point..
    now I have another webpage that has a report viewer and a textbox for the user input the value they want.. and pass it to the report.. and I'm using the following code to pass the value to the report I made earlier..
    Dim par(0) As Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportParameter
    par(0) = New Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportParameter("paramSiteCode", TextBox1.Text.ToString)
    ReportViewer1.ServerReport.SetParameters(par)
    ReportViewer1.ServerReport.Refresh()
    however.. now I'm getting an error.. "The report parameter 'paramSiteCode' is read-only and cannot be modified. (rsReadOnlyReportParameter)"
    what am I missing here? I've been thru the help and forums.. and the code should work.. or so I hope it would.. thanks in advance..

    Product:

    ID:
    rsreadonlyreportparameter
    Source:
    microsoft.reportingservices.diagnostics.utilities.errorstrings.resources.strings
    Version:
    8.00
    Message:
    The report parameter '{0}' is read-only and cannot be modified.
    Explanation
    This error occurs when you attempt to set a value for a parameter that is read-only. A parameter is read-only when the
    Prompt property for the parameter is set to false.
    User Action
    To set a value for a parameter, the Prompt property for the parameter must be set to
    true. You can set this property in two ways:
    Before publishing the report, provide a prompt string for the parameter. In Report Designer, you can provide a prompt by typing a prompt string in the
    Prompt text box in the Report Parameters dialog box.
    After publishing the report, set the Prompt User property for the parameter. In Report Manager, in report properties, click the
    Parameters tab, and then select Prompt User for the parameter.
    For more information about report parameters in Report Designer and Report Manager, see Books Online.
    In the release version of SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services, when Prompt is
    true and Prompt String is blank, the parameter is still available to the user in the report viewer. In SP1, when
    Prompt is true and Prompt String is blank, the parameter is hidden from the user.
    Note: Publishing a report over an existing report on the report server does not overwrite the parameter information. To update parameters for an existing report, either delete the report on the report server and republish, or update the parameter information
    for the report in Report Manager.
    I struggled with the same problem in VS 2010.
    After a long series of hoops to jump through, I modified the rdlc file by hand and added <Prompt>true</prompt>. This parameter cannot be set through the GUI - go figure.
    In my case, I was attempting to generate a sub report, and pass a parameter to the sub report.
    To get this to work, the sub report needed these two sections.
    <ReportParameters>
    <ReportParameter Name="Network_Id">
    <DataType>String</DataType>
    <Prompt>true</Prompt>
    </ReportParameter>
    </ReportParameters>
    <Variables>
    <Variable Name="Network_ID">
    <Value />
    </Variable>
    </Variables>
    I was then able to use the name "Network_Id" in the sub-report properties of the "sub report control" for the name of a parameter on the parameters tab. I then set it to the key value that I need in the subreport properties dialog.
    Prior to setting prompt to true, I kept getting the read-only exception.
    I'm not sure if I am being clear about this, but sub reports do work, and prompt can be manually added to the report definition file.

    I need to pass the name of the directory to the batch file as an argument from My Java program.

    How to pass argument to the .bat file from Java now ?

    Hi Turing,
    I am able to pass the argument directly but unable to pass as a String.
    For example:
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd /c start test.bat sample ");
    When I pass it as a value sample, I am able to receive this value sample in the batch file. Do you know how to pass a String ?
    String s1="sample";
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd /c start test.bat s1 ");
    s1 gets passed here instead of value sample to the batch file.
    Pls let me know if you have a solution.

  • Passing builtin arguments to a report deployed as a portlet

    I've got a report deployed as a portlet on a page. I want to be able to set the built-in parameter arguments such as orderbycol_1 and orderby_ord_1 directly without using the show interface call. Ideally I want to pass these parameters as part as the URL for the page (http://myserver.com/portal/page?_pageid=6,3,6_23&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL.....etc.)
    This is because I want the report to appear in its page portlet and not in a new window using the parameters I passed into it. An HTML portlet with an iFrame containing the URL link (...JH_REPORT.show?p_arg_names=_show_header&p_arg_values=NO etc. etc.) is not a good enough workaround because I have embedded page links within the report data and the iFrame will cause me to have a page within a page. The main driving reason behind this is that I wish to display custom column headings in my report portlet that if clicked on will change the sort order of the report. I can get this to work if the report appears in show mode in a new window, but not as a portlet within a page.
    I know how to do this with custom portlets - I can simply use the preference path to pull these parameters out from the URL.
    Regards,
    John

    I've now viewed the HTML source in the 'customize' view of my report portlet and noted all the parameters used. I generated a URL based on all of these parameters, e.g.,
    http://myserver.com/portal/page&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL&_type=portlet&_providerid=904735153&_portletid=204&_backurl=http://myserver.com/pls/portal/url/PAGE/TESTPAGES/JH_FORM_REP_INTEGRATION&_mode=2&_referencepath=403765_JH_SORT_REPORT2_904735153&p_arg_names=_orderby_col_1&p_arg_values=DATE_OF_PURCHASE&p_arg_names=_orderby_ord_1&p_arg_values=DESC
    and loaded the URL.
    I get the following weird behaviour. If I launch the URL then the report does not change its output on the first attempt.
    However, clicking on the 'Customize' link shows that the orderbycol_1 and orderbtord_1 values have changed! Clicking on OK/Cancel takes me back to the page with the portlet on and the data is now updated! In fact, just hitting refresh on the main page forces the report to execute correctly.
    Is this a caching issue? What is the workaround?
    I have attempted to place all these hidden values into the report portlet (before page section) and using a custom layout, added a a javascript function that would submit the hidden form passing a value dependent on which hyperlink I clicked (the link relating to the column I am wishing to sort on and in what order). It suffers from the same issue.
    I am so close to getting this to work!! Argh!
