Passing Database Pool Connection to Java Object

SO I have a set of Java libs that i would like to use within
CFMX. In fact, I would like to do all my business logic with those
libraries. Question is, the classes require I pass a database
connection to them. How would I do this?

In Coldfusion you can just code the usual Java DB connection
directly. That is, something like
<cfscript>
classObj = CreateObject("java", "java.lang.Class");
classObj.forName("etc.etc..Driver");
driverManager = CreateObject("java",
"java.sql.DriverManager");
connectionURL="jdbc: etc etc. ";
conn=driverManager.getConnection(connectionURL,username,password);
myQuery="SELECT blah1, blah2 FROM blah3";
preparedStatement = conn.prepareStatement(myQuery);
rs=preparedStatement.executeQuery();
while (rs.next()) {
etc etc
rs.close();
conn.close();
</cfscript>
That is for single calls. To set up a permanent connection,
you could include in the libraries a class whose job is simply to
establish the connection to the DB. I should expect the code to
contain some of the themes above, namely,
getConnection (String url, String user, String password)
connectionURL = "jdbc:etc"
java.sql.Connection conn =
java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection (connectionURL, username,
password);
etc. etc.
You could also find it convenient to store connection and
user data data in a properties object of the java.util.Properties
class.
java.util.Properties properties = new java.util.Properties
properties.setProperty ("user", "bkbk");
properties.setProperty ("password", "knoflook");
java.sql.Connection conn =
java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection (connectionURL, properties);

  • Database Pooling Connection?

    Hi All
    is it possible to use Database Connection Pooling against UCM?
    Please share how to config it
    thanks

    Do you want to use the existing pool? Than go to (on the server machine) start --> All programs --> oracle content server --> utilities --> sytem properties --> and databse tab and configure your driver settings and number of connections you would like to use. Hope this is helpful..

  • Database pool connectivity

    Hi,
    I am on j2ee 6.20 . I already have one jdbc connectivity for oracle maintained. One more connection has to be maintained for oracle jdbc. When I navigate to server dbpool through VA ,I dont get any option to create a new pool(ie New)but there is an option to add new driver.Since I want to use the existing driver already maintained . Pls suggest how can I create a new pool.
    Thanks
    Ravi

    Hi Ravi,
    you can use the telnet console to create a new connection pool in J2EE 6.20.
    use telnet <servername> 50008 (if your instance number is 00)
    jump to a server node
    add dbpool
    the command you have to use then is register_pool, i do not remember the exact syntax anymore, as I do not have a 6.20 J2EE here any longer, but there is a manual entry ("man register_pool")
    Good luck

    Hi Mohan. This is a sybase-only issue. If you set the drivermanager's
    log stream to system.out, and make a connection in a simple standalone
    program, you'll see the same output. The issue may be that the driver
    is submitting what it expects is it's local character set, and the
    DBMS is saying that the cheracter set is not installed in the DBMS.
    You should ask this in the sybase public newsgroups. The workaround may
    be as simple as having your DBA install the charset the driver wants.

  • Passing Array of java objects to and from oracle database-Complete Example

    Hi all ,
    I am posting a working example of Passing Array of java objects to and from oracle database . I have struggled a lot to get it working and since finally its working , postinmg it here so that it coudl be helpful to the rest of the folks.
    First thinsg first
    i) Create a Java Value Object which you want to pass .
    create or replace and compile java source named Person as
    import java.sql.*;
    import java.io.*;
    public class Person implements SQLData
    private String sql_type = "PERSON_T";
    public int person_id;
    public String person_name;
    public Person () {}
    public String getSQLTypeName() throws SQLException { return sql_type; }
    public void readSQL(SQLInput stream, String typeName) throws SQLException
    sql_type = typeName;
    person_id = stream.readInt();
    person_name = stream.readString();
    public void writeSQL(SQLOutput stream) throws SQLException
    stream.writeInt (person_id);
    stream.writeString (person_name);
    ii) Once you created a Java class compile this class in sql plus. Just Copy paste and run it in SQL .
    you should see a message called "Java created."
    iii) Now create your object Types
    CREATE TYPE person_t AS OBJECT
    EXTERNAL NAME 'Person' LANGUAGE JAVA
    USING SQLData (
    person_id NUMBER(9) EXTERNAL NAME 'person_id',
    person_name VARCHAR2(30) EXTERNAL NAME 'person_name'
    iv) Now create a table of Objects
    CREATE TYPE person_tab IS TABLE OF person_t;
    v) Now create your procedure . Ensure that you create dummy table called "person_test" for loggiing values.
    create or replace
    procedure give_me_an_array( p_array in person_tab,p_arrayout out person_tab)
    as
    l_person_id Number;
    l_person_name Varchar2(200);
    l_person person_t;
    l_p_arrayout person_tab;
    errm Varchar2(2000);
    begin
         l_p_arrayout := person_tab();
    for i in 1 .. p_array.count
    loop
         l_p_arrayout.extend;
         insert into person_test values(p_array(i).person_id, 'in Record '||p_array(i).person_name);
         l_person_id := p_array(i).person_id;
         l_person_name := p_array(i).person_name;
         l_person := person_t(null,null);
         l_person.person_id := l_person_id + 5;
         l_person.person_name := 'Out Record ' ||l_person_name ;
         l_p_arrayout(i) := l_person;
    end loop;
    p_arrayout := l_p_arrayout;
         l_person_id := p_arrayout.count;
    for i in 1 .. p_arrayout.count
    loop
    insert into person_test values(l_person_id, p_arrayout(i).person_name);
    end loop;
    commit;
    EXCEPTION WHEN OTHERS THEN
         errm := SQLERRM;
         insert into person_test values(-1, errm);
         commit;
    end;
    vi) Now finally create your java class which will invoke the pl/sql procedure and get the updated value array and then display it on your screen>Alternatively you can also check the "person_test" tbale
    import java.util.Date;

         ps.execute();

    Hi Sunil,
    I've a similar situation where I'm trying to insert Java objects in db using bulk insert. My issue is with performance for which I've created a new thread.

    I ran into your code and looked into it. You've used the Person object array and directly passing it to the oracle.sql.ARRAY constructor. Just curios if this works, cos my understanding is that you need to create a oracle.sql.STRUCT out of ur java object collection and pass it to the ARRAY constructor. I tried ur way but got this runtime exception.
    java.sql.SQLException: Fail to convert to internal representation: JavaBulkInsertNew$Option@10bbf9e

    Here's a code snippet I used :
    Object optionVal[] =   {optionArr[0]};   // optionArr[0] is an Option object which has three properties
    oracle.sql.ArrayDescriptor empArrayDescriptor = oracle.sql.ArrayDescriptor.createDescriptor("TT_EMP_TEST",conn);
    ARRAY empArray = new ARRAY(empArrayDescriptor,conn,optionVal);If you visit my thread, u'll see that I'm using STRUCT and then pass it to the ARRAY constructor, which works well, except for the performance issue.
    I'll appreciate if you can provide some information.

  • Pool connection issue with sql server database in adf application

    Hi everyone
    I'm Developing a BPM application using Oracle bpm 11.1.1.5.0
    My JDeveloper version is 11.1.1.5.0 and my database is SQL Server 2008.
    I have created a new BPM application, an application module and created several view objects based on my sql server tables in the database.
    I have only one initiator user task which has a task flow and one jspx page for that.
    The problem :
    when I deploy the application, in the bpm workspace initiator page, the page is shown correctly only once every other time.
    I mean it's strange, the first time the user instantiates the process, it's shown correctly. The second time, it is not! The third time, it is! etc...
    The interesting part is, when the page is not shown correctly, if I refresh the page it will be shown correctly.
    Here's the log output from when the page is not shown correctly:
    JBO-30003: Application pool model.sam.specialAppModuleLocal fails to check out an application module due to the following exception:
    java.lang.ClassCastException: weblogic.jdbc.wrapper.PoolConnection_com_microsoft_sqlserver_jdbc_SQLServerConnection cannot be cast to oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection

    Hello thank you
    I found the file and changed the SQL Flavor to SQL Server but it still shows a blank page with the error instead of the page every once in a while.
    The error has changed though, now it is like this:

    I have noticed that this time only if the user submits the page, the next time he/she initiates a new task the error appears.
    Do u think this has to do something with pool settings or session settings or something like that?
    Thanks again

    You are running the Examples application shipped with WLS, which I guest

    correct DB to connect with is Cloudscape yet to Oracle, unless you make

  • Losing database connections in remote objects

    Hi,
    I have an interesting problem. I have a couple of remote objects that bear database connections. They are pooled in another remote object and provided by registry on request to the client. However, when I check the connections after a while, all of them are closed except the last client. I enabled logging and discovered that all clients except the last one connected get disconnected at the same moment when the method clean() of the DGC gets invoked. I can even predict the moment, e.g. when I start the server at XX:XX:31, the connections get closed at YY:YY:31, always after whole minutes. Strange thing is, that even active clients currently querying data get disconnected.
    Jezevec
    Has anybody met such a problem already? My configuration is Java 1.3.0_02, database is Oracle 8i. Thanx for any hints.

    My colleague solved it. If anyone interested, the problem was caused by the class com.borland.dx.sql.dataset.Database which is provided in Borland JBuilder libraries. We used it to create connections to the Oracle db. Do not use this class for RMI applications if you want to avoid problems. It's better to rely on standard JDBC classes.

  • Dynamic passing database connection parameters

    I have a situation which is two different source of client but they have the same functions, so have the same screens. But they maintain two separate database even with same table structure/tablename (I inherited this and cann't change it). I am thinking I should have one reusable Entity Object/View Object. But when I create entity object, I create database connection first which has the database name/password/sid etc. My question is that is it possible the database connection parameters(name,password,host,sid etc) can reside in configuration files or something like that. somewhere in the java code, when I create a instance of view object/entity object, I find out which type of client is and so by passing the correct connection string, then the correct database entity object will be created. Is that something feasiable? Do I make myself clear? Please help!
    Type of Client 1 type of Client 2
    Same of ADF face Screen

  • How to pass the java object into the spring controller

    Hi Friends
    When I hit the url at the first time my call goes to the spring controller and sets the userDetails objects in the modelAndView.addObject("userDetails", userDetails.getUserDetails()) and returns the userDetails.html page. if I click any link in the same page i want to pass same (userDetails) object thru javascript or jquery and calls the another(controller) method and returns the same (userDetails.html) page.
    It means how can i pass the java object thru javascript or jquery and calls the controller. if i get the same object in my controller i can avoid calling the db again. please help me out to resolve this issue. i am tired of fixing this issue.
    Regards
    Sherin Pooja

    If you want to avoid calling the database again then cache the data.
    However before you do that make sure that calling the database, in the context of YOUR system, is going to be an actual problem.
    For example there is absolutely no point in caching a  User object when only one user an hour is actually using the system.

    Since that implementation has existed since 1.2 and
    the original post suggested that 1.3 was being used,I
    don't see that a newer version would help any.That's not a good assumption. There could have been a
    bug fix.
    Could be. But for the particular error (IncompatibleClassChangeError) I would consider the chance almost non-existent until all other possibilities have been exhausted.

    Any links or ideas will be really appreciated

    but i just wanted to know, how can i do that in core java application. i have used connection pooling in Tomcat using dbcp

  • Database Resident Connection Pooling (DRCP)

    Hi there,
    Im playing with DRCP on SLES but its not acting as I would expect. Given the lack of any hard info out there I thought I would check my understanding as its probably/possibly flawed!
    I thought that with DRCP you would have lots of sessions in the database with a small pool of server processes (These are the "L000" processes).
    If I set my pool to have a max-size of 3 for example then I can create TWO sessions (via SQLPLUS11g) using the POOLED processes (SERVER=POOLED).
    The third process is used for "Authenitication". Ok. Fine. Good. All sessions are sat idle doing nothing and I can see in v$session and v$process that the sessions have picked up one of the "Lnnn" processes..
    Now when I come to add another session , the create-session/connect from SQLplus hangs and waits for one of the other sessions to either time-out or be closed.
    I thought DRCP would allow multiple sessions to share the same processes. Ie if session A is idle then its pooled server-process is released back to the pool - and hence would be available to be used by another session. IE a bit like shared-servers in well, Shared Server I guess!
    If the above isnt the case then is this really "Pooling" or just a case of there being pre-spawned server processes knocking about to speed up connection requests?
    Yours,
    Bob

    Hi,
    I can't believe no-one else on this forum was not able to jump in while I was busy!
    I wasn't aware of that OTN article I merely read the docco. However, having read this now and read your comments, I still don't get where you are coming from as (to me) the article just backs up what I think. But I could be wrong.
    In fact to quote exactly what you've posted:
    "Clients are persistently connected and authenticated to the Broker. Clients
    request the Broker to provide pooled servers when they need to perform some database activity, use them, and then release them back for reuse by other clients."
    I read this as clients get a connection from the broker, uses it and releases it. With emphasis on the client. So if the client hasn't released it, it's still got it.
    "...The pooled server is handed back to the broker when the client releases it."
    I mean again, emphasis on the client releasing it. If the client doesn't release it, it's still got it and so can't be used by any other client.
    I do believe the diagram is misleading, it seems to imply that an idle (grey) client is just 'connected' to the broker, implying for a pooled connection to be back in the pool then the client just has to be merely idle rather than releasing it. The Busy/Idle w.r.t. DB activity doesn't help either as we all know a client can be connected but not doing anything with that connection. So I see how that can cause confusion.
    The noddy little graph just shows to me a linear correlation between memory and pooled connections. What a suprise. This is exactly what I would expect. The more connections in your pool, the more memory you need.
    Lastly, if the DRCP didn't work this way, it would work differently to every other connection pool I've ever met. With a connection pool governed by the mid tier, it opens a bunch of dedicated connections to the DB with a common username. The mid tier language (java, .nyet, whatever) makes it transparent that a connection is coming from this pool and normally makes it transparent to release them back (the developers never need know).
    But as I said I could be wrong and I'm interested in what you find from the SR.

  • How can I implement the connection pool in my java stored procedure

    my java stored procedures (in database 'B') have to connect to another oracle database ,let's say 'A'. And how can I implement the behavior like the so-called connection pool in my java stored procedure in 'B', as below.
    1. database B, has 2 java stored procedures sp1 and sp2
    2. both sp1 and sp2 connects to databse 'A'
    whatever I call the sp1 and sp2 and the database 'A' always only one connected session from sp1 and sp2 in database 'B'.
    THANKS A LOTS...

    my problem is I have a lots of java stored procedures need to cnnect to the remote oracle db, and I hope the remote db can only have a connected session from my java stored procedures in my local db. I try as below
    class sp{
    static Connection conn=null; //the remote db connection,
    public static void sp1(){...}//procedure 1, using conn
    public static void sp2(){...}//procedure 2, using conn,too
    I can 'see' the 'conn' variable if I invoke the sp1() and sp2() from the same client application(maybe sqlplus). But if I invoke the sp1() from client 'A' and invoke sp2() from client 'B' then the sp1() and sp2() can not see the 'conn' variable for each other. I think it's because the two clients cause oracle to create two instances of the class 'sp' and the sp1() and sp2() located in different instance seperately. Thus the sp1() and sp2() can not see 'conn' for each other. They can only see its own 'conn'.
    To connect to the remote db from the java stored procedure is easy but is it possible to connect to the remote db via database link from the java stored procedure at my local db ? If so, then I also archive my goal .
    BTW , thanks a lots...
    andrew :-)
