Passing jsf parameters to a jsp page

how to access the parameters declared in jsf page from a jsp page.
in the jsp page I need to access the paramaters something like request.getParameter("age");
how to declare the same in the jsf page in h form.
<h:form>
<h:inputText value="" id = "age" />
</h:form>
and in the jsp page i should access this parameter like request.getParameter("age");
how to accomplish this.
Please help.

  • Jsf problem go from jsp page to another jsp in new window

    I’ve two jsp pages attendReport.jsp and printAttendReport.jsp
    attendReport.jsp contains inputs for attend duration and employee id and command button “view” to view attendance data entered employee during entered duration inside the same page(this work very good)
    the problem is the same page includes another command button “print” its job is to get the same data but view them in the second page printAttendReport.jsp in another window in order to print the data in some suitable format , but the print button opens attendReport.jsp instead of printAttendReport.jsp and does not hold the inputs else if I set <managed-bean-scope> to session not request which cause caching data , please help me if you to solve this problem

    my problem solved 1- i use 2 managed bean , one of request scope (used in attendReport.jsp ) and the other with session scope (used in printAttendReport.jsp)
    2 - add new jsp contains the h:commandLink of the print (attendReportPrintAction.jsp)
    3 - divide the view of attendReport.jsp to two subviews (each subview has its own form) one contains inputs and outputs of attend and the other contains include to (attendReportPrintAction.jsp)
    <%@ include file="attendReportPrintAction.jsp" %>
    4 - send and get parameters using two methods
                public static Object getSessionMapValue(String key) {
                   return FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getSessionMap().get(key);
                public static void setSessionMapValue(String key, Object value) {

  • Passing URL parameters to PL/SQL Pages

    Hi,
    I want to pass parameters from url to the PL/SQL page . How is this possible?
    http://myserver/pls/portal/url/PAGE/page_group/page/testplsqlpage?course_ref=##COURSE_ID##&staff_ref=##STAFF_ID##
    I will to received course_ref and staff_ref in the PL/SQL page and pass the values to SQL query so that its filtered.
    Can pls anyone guide me? If there is any alternate way or there is sample code pls let me know
    Many Thanks
    Ganesh

    Hi Mick,
    Thanks for your reply. However my problem is still not resolved.
    I have created a Omniportlet with lists the staff details. When I click on the staff link I am passing to parameters as follows
    http://servername/pls/portal/url/PAGE/CCM_MIS_PORTAL/TUTOR_HOME/Course_Info?Param1=10017031/M2523&Param2=001434
    on the receving page I have a omni portlet which must receive these 2 parameters and pass it on to the query and filter the results.
    On the received page I have created 2 page parameters (Param1 and Param2)
    I have assigned these 2 paramaters to the portlet paramers through page parameters' section
    on the omni portlet in the query I have created 2 bind variables (p1, p2) and the default value of the bind variable is set using ##Param1## and ##Param2## so the received values from page is passed to to bind variable and hence to the query.
    However the omni portlet is not received the parameters and I can not figure out whats wrong?
    Is there any problem with my URL (guide says I should use relative URL)
    Please help

    <url-pattern>/faces/*</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    Does anybody know the solution to this problem
    Any kind of help will be highly appreciated.
    Pinkesh

    Hi Adam Winer,
    I want to try your solution.
    just wanted some more clarification .....
    So, let's say you have:
    DWStaticJSP.jsp: plain JSP
    report_palm.jsp: JSF JSP included by DWStaticJSP.jsp
    What you should do is use an URL of:
    /faces/DWStatic.jsp
    to access the outer plain JSP (yes, even though it's not really a faces page), and then have
    /faces/DWStatic.jsp include just plain /report_palm.jsp.
    In essence, the critical thing is that the FacesServlet wraps the entire request - FacesServlet cannot run
    for just a piece of the request.My question is where should i store the DWStatic.jsp file ... As u said i should acces it using /faces/DWStatic.jsp do i need to save it in the faces folder or just in the web app root.
    I cant save the DWStatic.jsp in the faces folder as this file is used for lot of different purpose in my company application.
    So can u give me a solution where in i can keep the DWStatic.jsp in the web-root folder and still try your solution
    Also is this the right setting for facesServlet in the web.xml.
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>FacesServlet</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>javax.faces.webapp.FacesServlet</servlet-class>
    <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup>
    </servlet>
    <!-- Faces Servlet Mapping -->
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>FacesServlet</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/faces/*</url-pattern>

    Now we have started using JSF.....
    Now as a developer .... i want the c.jsp to include a d.jsp file which contains JSF components...

  • Pass Object Between Applet and JSP Page

    Hi all,
    How can I pass an Object(such as Vector, File), rather than just string to the Applet from a JSP page?
    Thank you.

    I used Base64Encoder and Base64Decoder from servlets.com utilities.
    * convert any serializable object to a String
    public synchronized static String objectToString(Serializable obj) throws Exception {
        ByteArrayOutputStream bos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(100);
        ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream(bos);
        oos.writeObject(obj);
        byte[]bytes = bos.toByteArray();
        bos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); //to save the encoded String
        Base64Encoder enc = new Base64Encoder(bos);
        enc.write(bytes);
        String encodedString = bos.toString();
        //close all
        enc.close();
        oos.close();
        bos.close();
        return encodedString;
    * Recreates the object from the encoded String
    public synchronized static Object stringToObject(String str) throws Exception {
        ByteArrayInputStream bis = new ByteArrayInputStream(str.getBytes());
        Base64Decoder dec = new Base64Decoder(bis);
        ObjectInputStream ois = new ObjectInputStream(dec);
        Object obj = (Object)ois.readObject();
        ois.close();
        dec.close();
        bis.close();
        return obj;
    }

  • Setting Java class parameters for a JSP page

    Hi,
    I have a Java class that has a reference to a Session Id. I want to call a JSP from the class and set the session id to a String variable in the JSP. I am using a URL class to call the JSP. After the actual URL is passed to the URL constructor, I am appending the "?m_sessionId=e_session Id" at the end of the URL. In my JSP, I have the m_sessionId String parameter that i want to set e_sessionId to. What should i do in my JSP to set this? Any answers will be very helpful and I'd like to offer many thanks in advance
      public void loadSessionStuff(String sessionID){
       String e_sessionId = URLEncode.encode(sessionID);
       URL url = new URL("http://localhost:9000/MyJSP.jsp?m_sessionId="+e_sessionId);
       .....MyJSP.jsp looks something like this
       <%!
          String m_sessionId;
          public void setSessionId(){
           m_sessionid = request.getParameter("e_sessionId");
           public String getSessionId(){
               return m_sessionId;
            other stuff....
        %>Is this the correct way to do things. It's not working.
    Regards
    R

    Hi Rahul,
    Yeah, i got that resolved. Do you know how i can get the thing in reverse gear. What i mean is i can successfully call and get the JSP to do things for me from my Java bean. What about sending stuff back to my bean?
    I want to send the List back to my calling class so i can work with it.
    Thanks

  • Unable to manage JSF tabSet in frame(jsp page)

    i am using frameset in jsp page and in top frame i m placing the jsp file which contains the JSF tabSet with 4 tabs and i have set the url proerty and target ='bottom" i.e the name of lower frame
    i am able to navigate the pages in lower frame but not able to keep focus for selected tab.

    Hi,
    You could try using page fragment instead of frames.
    There is a relevant topic on EA discussion.

  • Pass bean property name across JSP pages

    First, the sample code:
    <%-- ================ some.jsp =============== --%>
    <%-- bunch of code [...] --%>
    <tr>
    <td><bean:message key="prompt.desc" /></td>
    <td><html:textarea property="desc" /></td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td>
    <bean:message key="prompt.notes" />
    <tiles:insert page="checkSpellTile.jsp" flush="false"></tiles:insert>
    </td>
    </tr>
    <tr>

    </tr>
    <%-- ================ end some.jsp =============== --%>
    <%-- ================ checkSpellTile.jsp =============== --%>
    <%-- some JSP code [...] --%>
    <spellingComp:executeSpelling
    mode="popup"
    textComponentName="notes"
    />
    <%-- ================ end checkSpellTile.jsp =============== --%>
    So, my first foray into JSP programming - I have a number of
    different JSP pages that need spell check widgets associated
    to some text fields. The sample code shown works fine. The
    prompt, "Notes ...:" is following by the spell check
    [clickable] widget. Then the user clicks the widget, the
    spell check is launched and it checks the text in the
    "notes" field for the form.
    The sticky situation that I can't seem to solve is that each
    of the forms associated with each of the different JSP pages
    has a different name for the text field (that needs to be
    spell checked).
    I've tried doing this (between the <tiles:insert...></tiles:insert...>):
    <tiles:put name="theNotes" beanName="orderForm" beanProperty="notes"/>
    ... and then in the checkSpellTile.jsp, inserting this:
    <tiles:importAttribute name="theNotes"/>
    ... and then for the "textComponentName" attribute:
    textComponentName="theNotes"
    Any ideas how do solve this problem?

  • Passing an array from one jsp page to another.

    I need to pass an array from one page to another, without using the query string.
    Can anyone help?
    I was given one suggestion about putting the array inside a Map object, then putting the map in the session.
    Is there an alternative? i am struggling to find out how to use maps properly.
    Alternatively, could someone give me a pointer on how to implement this possibility?
    Help needed ASAP.
    Thankyou

    First.jsp
    String[] str = {1,2,3,4,5};
    session = request.getSession(true);
    session.setAttribute("str",str); //or application.setAttribute("str",str);
    Second.jsp
    session = request.getSession();
    String str[] = (String[])session.getAttribute("str"); //or String str[] = (String[]) application.getAttribute("str");
    Now you can use str[].

  • How to get Parameters in a jsp page called by VB program via xmlHttp

    I have a VB programm sending a request using xmlHttp.
    xmlHttp.Open "POST", varTarget, True 'True means asynchronous
    xmlHttp.Send xmlSendStr
    This worked fine with ASP
    the crucial ASP code was:
         set xml = server.createObject("MSXML2.DOMDocument")
         xml.load(request)
         VBData = cstr(xml.getElementsByTagName("value").item(0).firstChild.nodeValue)
    now I have a webserver (tomcat) and try to have a simular functionality
    but
    request.getParameter()
    seems not to do the job.
    what do I have to do
    I am thankfully looking forward to you reply
    peter

    Hi,
    thanks for your reply!
    If I have the parameters in the URL and use the method GET it works all right.
    but I need the method to be POST. I suppose, I have the wrong way identifying the parameter name
    This is from VB
    varTarget = "http://localhost:9090/gm/getData" ' getData is my servlet
    xmlSendStr = "SQLStmt=SELECT TCPD_Cars.* From TCPD_Cars WHERE (((TCPD_Cars.CarIdent)=45));"
        xmlHttp.Open "POST", varTarget, True   'True means asynchronous
        xmlHttp.Send xmlSendStrthis is part of my Servlet
         protected void doPost(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response)
                   throws ServletException, IOException {
              response.setContentType("text/html");
              PrintWriter writer  = response.getWriter();
              String SQLStmt = request.getParameter("SQLStmt") ;
            //make the database query and get the returns
            writer.println(GetSQLData(SQLStmt));
            //close the write
            writer.close();
         }I would appreciate any suggestions

  • Passing parameters to included JSP files using JSF

    I have one included page in one jsp page(mother page). I have included it by jsp:include tag. The included page consists of two inputText. I need to pass the parameters of the mother page together with the parameters in the included page in the backingBean of the mother page. Hope this one is clearer.
    The code snippet in the mother page looks like this
    <jsp:include page="/pages/ps/sample_rep2.jsp"/>.

  • Problem in passing data from one .jsp page to another .jsp page

    i have a problem here
    Actually i have 2 jsp pages. What im trying to do here is actually i want to pass data from the first jsp page to the second for updating
    The first jsp page contains data that user wants to update in the form of table.
    <td><img src = "edit.gif" alt = "edit" border="0" ><td>
    <TD><%= Name %></td>
    <TD><%= rs.getInt("Age") %></td>
    <TD><%= rs.getString("Gender") %></td>
    So this page displays the data that users wants to update plus one image button (edit button). So when user clicks this button, all the data in this page will be brought to the second .jsp page called updatePersonal for updating.
    The problem here is that it is not displaying the existing data in the second .jsp page.
    The second page basically contains forms
    <INPUT TYPE="text" NAME="FirstName" maxlength="30" value = "<%=FirstName%>">
    Can someone please help me. I really dont know what to do..How do i get the data displayed in the text field that is passed from the first .jsp page..thankx in advance

    Please modify below code to:
    td><img src = "edit.gif" alt = "edit" border="0" ><td>

    I'm sure it works</a>

  • How to render a JSP page dynamically with JSF controls ??

    Hi All,
    I am new to JAVA and JSF. I am recently started doing a web project. First we started using plain JSP and servlets and now we are going to use JSF.
    Now I am facing one problem with JSF. In a JSP page, I am having a combobox and a div and when i am selecting a value from the combo box, the div should be filled with some controls(like text boxes and comboboxes, buttons, etc) according to the selection.
    I have done this in plain JSP with the help of XML/XSLT, AJAX and JavaScript. i.e. XML contains the details of the controls and XSLT transformer will give me controls in a string format in the server, AJAX helps to retrieve it and I have to simply set the div.innerHTML property to that string. It is working fine.
    Now with JSF, I need to add JSF controls into my XML file, and it inturn returns the corresponding string having JSF controls easily, but i could not set it directly to div's innerHTML as the String contains JSF controls (Moreover, these JSF controls are linked with JAVA beans).
    Is there any provision to add JSF controls to a running page dynamically or is there any provision to convert the above mentioned string of JSF controls to normal HTML controls like the JSF taglibraries doing.??
    thanks in advance

    That's simply asking for trouble. Do not suggest to use JSTL in combination with JSF.
    JSF already provides almost everything which the JSTL flow control tags provides in flavour of the 'rendered' attribute.
