Passing large number of values to a WebI prompt from external application

Hello all,
BIt of a strange request this!
I need to abuse the OpenDocument function and pass A LOT of prompt values into a webi report.
The users can select hundreds/thousands of records in an external web based application and click to open a BO WebI report which needs to refresh restricting on the records selected by the user in the other application.
If I do this with OpenDocument i can pass so many values in a list that I'll exceed the limits of the URL length (although I think opendoc itself is shorter than this limit).
So I'm hitting the same limit as these guys...
http://bembengarifin.wordpress.com/2009/02/19/business-objects-opendocument-api-url-length-limitation-gotcha/
Anyone got any ideas?
Was thinking of programatically accessing the document via SDK and adding restrictions or possibly changing open doc to use a POST function... but any ideas on if this would work or any other options?
Cheers,
Jez

Hi Jeremy,
No solution, but a warning note...
I'm afraid that even if you pass the hurdle of the URL length,
you will hit the limit of the in list() number of values on the database side.
So I would go for storing the selected list in the database.
Then you can either create a predefined filter to select the records using the contents of the table,
or bring in the table in the structure, create object and use these to create the where condition in the report.
Needless to say you will probably want to limit this table to just the records from a specific user,
but you stand a better chance of getting to a working solution then the road you're thinking of traveling.
Hope this helps,
Marianne

  • How to pass values to dashboard prompts from external applications

    Any idea is well appreciated.
    How can I pass values of dashboard prompts from external applications to the dashboard prompts so that the dashboard is prefiltered based on values sent by external applications.
    Thanks in Advance!
    Kris

    Kris,
    i am able to change the session variable and able to call the dashboard from external app, but i identified prompt value not changing. but Finally i am able to found a workaround for you.
    Use the following URL and it explained here
    http://localhost:9704/analytics/saw.dll?Dashboard&nquser=Administrator&nqpassword=Administrator&PortalPath=/shared/abcd/_portal/dash1&Options=rmf&DSN=madan
    PortalPath is your dashboard location. /shared/abcd is folder where i saved dashboards. dash1 is my dashboard name.
    internally this dashboard includes many reports that uses the session variable. after doing above this i am able to update the session variable to the value i have given in URL, DSN=value.
    You may observer here that calls the dashboard and passes the value but its not updating the prompt value. so workaround for this is edit your prompt,
    change the Default to - SQL Results and place the sql
    SELECT CASE WHEN 1=0 THEN Markets.Region ELSE VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.DSN) END saw_0 FROM Paint
    again here Market.Region is column from presentation layer and Paint is subject area. After doing this step, your prompt always shows value in the session varible as default.
    Now include reports and dashboard prompt in the dashboard and run this url from external applicaitons.
    http://localhost:9704/analytics/saw.dll?Dashboard&nquser=Administrator&nqpassword=Administrator&PortalPath=/shared/abcd/_portal/dash1&Options=rmf&DSN=madan
    it worked for me and blog this soon. if it works for you mark the question as answered and mark my replies as correct.
    thanks

    You don't need iTunes for that. Simply connect the iPhone to the PC where it will be recognized as a camera. You can then select the photos you wish to transfer, transfer them, and delete them.

  • Make Firefox open URLs passed from external applications in new tabs

    I upgraded Firefox (Mac) from 3.6.13 to 3.6.14 yesterday.
    Since then Firefox does not respond to URLs passed from external applications, as it has always done.
    The external apps pass the URL, FireFox is brought to the front, but no Tab (or new window) is opened.
    Nothing else has changed. Firefox is selected as my default browser (in Safari Prefs) and there is only one copy of FireFox on my laptop,

    Hi David
    Go to Safari Preferences>General. At the bottom you'll see an option for opening in a tab. Makes sure Tabs are enabled in your Tab panel.

  • Passing large number of parameters

    In chapter 6 of the reports 6i documentation it states that one of the advantages of using a ref cursor is to "avoid the use of lexical parameters in your reports". I am not clear how it does this. Can anyone explain how this would work?
    In my application, I would like to print an exception report (ie use run_report) when an item in the base report exceeds a threshold amount. I would rather not pass all the subtotal values, as that would require passing a large number of parameters to the exception report. I can do it, but it seems like there should be an easier way. Passing a parameter of type RECORD would do it, but isn't allowed, right?
    null

    1. In some cases, you can avoid the use of lexical parameters in your reports
    with "static" ref cursor.
    Example for "static" ref cursor:
    1.1 Stored package
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE report_static IS
    TYPE type_ref_cur_sta IS REF CURSOR RETURN dept%ROWTYPE;
    FUNCTION func_sta (p_order_by VARCHAR2) RETURN type_ref_cur_sta;
    END;
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY report_static IS
    FUNCTION func_sta (p_order_by VARCHAR2) RETURN type_ref_cur_sta IS
    ref_cur_sta type_ref_cur_sta;
    BEGIN
    IF p_order_by = 'dname' THEN
    OPEN ref_cur_sta FOR
    SELECT * FROM dept ORDER BY dname;
    ELSE
    OPEN ref_cur_sta FOR
    SELECT * FROM dept ORDER BY deptno;
    END IF;
    RETURN ref_cur_sta;
    END;
    END;
    1.2 Query PL/SQL in Reports
    function QR_1RefCurQuery return report_static.type_ref_cur_sta is
    begin
    return report_static.func_sta (:p_order_by);
    end;
    2. But if you need (for example) dynamic where, you (practically)
    can't use "static" ref cursor. In this case, you can use "dynamic" ref cursor
    (available from Oracle 8.1.5).
    Example for "dynamic" ref cursor (note that Reports need
    "static" ref cursor type for building Report Layout):
    2.1 Stored package
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE report_dynamic IS
    TYPE type_ref_cur_sta IS REF CURSOR RETURN dept%ROWTYPE; -- for Report Layout only
    TYPE type_ref_cur_dyn IS REF CURSOR;
    FUNCTION func_dyn (p_where VARCHAR2) RETURN type_ref_cur_dyn;
    END;
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY report_dynamic IS
    FUNCTION func_dyn (p_where VARCHAR2) RETURN type_ref_cur_dyn IS
    ref_cur_dyn type_ref_cur_dyn;
    BEGIN
    OPEN ref_cur_dyn FOR
    'SELECT * FROM dept WHERE ' | | NVL (p_where, '1 = 1');
    RETURN ref_cur_dyn;
    END;
    END;
    2.2 Query PL/SQL in Reports
    function QR_1RefCurQuery return report_dynamic.type_ref_cur_sta is
    begin
    return report_dynamic.func_dyn (:p_where);
    end;

  • Problem with Web Clipping and External Application

    When I use Web clipping with INLINE rendering on usual sites I can move under links, not leaving a portal.
    But if I try to make it via the self-made provider with External Application then links do not work.
    I press them and it appear in the same place!
    Authorization via External Application passes successfully, that is the page is displayed correctly.
    But links do not work.
    In what there can be a problem?
    Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2)

    In order to prevent some urls and internal websites from being cached use url bypassing. This way these urls will not be cached and the users can directly use them without being asked to log in.
    To enable transparent error handling and dynamic authentication bypass, and to configure static bypass lists, use the bypass global configuration command. To disable the bypass feature, use the no form of the command.

  • How to call a web Service from Oracle Applications?

    Hi friends,
    I've posted this question on OA Framework forum , but may be it's more appropiated put it here. Sorry for do it again:
    It's about how to call a web service from a Form or a .sql (via Request) in Oracle Applications:
    Could you please explain here the detailed steps (with code example if it's possible) to invoke a webservice from Oracle Applications?.. how did yo do it...?
    I've read differents posts here and the 33097.1 metalink note (by the way, the first recommended link in this note is broken...), but there are lots of theorical concepts and no real examples to see how/from where invoke the WS
    I'll have to call one webservice (I suppose the customer will give me the interface implementation)...but I've never did it with Applications so that's why I ask you for all the detailed steps...
    I work with Forms 6i, Apps 11.5.10.2 and DB 9.2.0.7.
    Thanks a lot.
    Jose.

    Hello Jose,
    I did using java program to call BPEL web services in 11.5.10.
    I pasted below the metalink note for your reference (Note:250964.1)
    The idea is first write a java program to call the webservice (in my case it is calling an BPEL web service, so this may not help directly), test it.
    Then port the java program as specified in the note, so that you could call your web service through concurrent manager scheduler.
    Is this ok?
    Thanks
    Arun.

  • Calling a Web Service from J2EE application running on WebSphere

    This may have been answered before, but could not find using multiple searches that I did on this forum.
    We are just in the process of using the newly installed SAP WAS 6.40 with J2EE engine and I understand from SAP's documentation that all BAPIs and remotely callable RFCs should be invokable via a Web Service call from remote applications. Couple of questions on this:
    1. Is there a documentaion that describes steps to enable BAPIs or RFCs as web services?
    2. Is there a documentation that describes steps to invoke a web service that in turn uses BAPI or RFC (code sample).
    We are J2EE literates but not familiar with SAP WAS, and not sure if calling/invoking the WS would be similar to calling any other WS from other WS Containers.
    Appreciate a response or suggestions.

    Hi Bharat,
    see this weblog , where it gives the steps to create a RFC and convert it into web service.
    /people/thomas.jung3/blog/2005/01/05/develop-a-web-service-that-sends-an-email--in-abap
    Invoking WS is similar to calling any other WS from other containers. Either you have to give the WSDL file location or the external UDDI Server address in WebService creation wizard.
    The WebService exapmles is also avaliable in help.sap.com

  • How to call OWSM secured web-service from ADF application

    I have a OWSM secured web-service, which takes username/password.
    I want to invoke this webservice from ADF application. ADF application has its own security and it takes its own username/password. End user can't provide the username/password for web-service call. My ADF application should call the webservice and provide it appropriate username/password.
    What is the best practice to handle such scenario. I don't want to hardcode username/password in Java (ADF) code.
    Thanks
    Sanjeev.

    it is not clear to me if you are having problems with calling java code from OIM or if the problem is the web service API.
    Lets do some divide and conquer:
    Can you create a simple java class that just writes a couple of lines to the log? Please attach this code to the OIM task and make sure it runs.
    Once this works we can start looking at the web service call.
    Best regards

    I am using Macromedia Contribute 3 and trying to edit the HTML code on a page by using the "Edit Page Source in External Application" option under File>Actions. It has worked in the past but now the "Edit Page Source in External Application" is grayed out. Any solutions? I know that I am connected to the website. Thanks.

    Hi There,
    Greetings from Adobe.
    To make that option is available, make sure the role to which you're assigned allows it. If you can't update this setting, ask the person who is assigned as website administrator.
    You will find that option under Edit > Administer Websites > Edit Role Settings > Editing > Allow users to edit a web page source in an external application.
