Passing Presentation variblae to the logical column in the rpd

Hi,
Can some one please tell me how to pass presentation variable to RPD logical column
i am capturing a date from prompt and defining a status column based on the date user selects in the prompt,
can some please tell me how to achieve this..
Thanks in advance

You can pass request variable to RPD.
Create a session variable called PRESENTATION_VARIABLE. Write some SQL in initialization block like select 'something' from dual.
Now you can use this session variable in logical column as VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.PRESENTATION_VARIABLE).
Now go to dashboard prompt , edit the column using which you wanted to set presentation variable. Select Request Variable in Set a variable dropdown.
Type the name of the Request variable as PRESENTATION_VARIABLE.
Now in your dashboard report you can use the logical column which is using this request variable.
Let me know whether it worked or not.
Thanks

    Hi,
Like this you can pass presentation variables to the columns using Go URL
    '<a href=saw.dll?Dashboard&PortalPath=/shared/Test/_portal/Test%20KPIs&Page=Page1&Action=Navigate&col1="Dim%20Country"."Country%20Name"&val1='||'@{PV_Contry'||'>'||'Country'||'<\a>'
Please use backslash in anchor tag end. Since here it is not accepting I am using forward slash.

  • Logical Column for calculation

    Hi guru,
My requirement is we have to display report with Total count of Opportunities , Count new Oppty ( which are created with in 30days from today ) Count Old Opptys ( which are created more than 30days ago and Overdue ( which closed date is > current Date).
For this requirement I had created one logical column and I am getting error when ever I am using Timestampdiff.
Could you please let me know how can I create these 3 logical columns in Meta Data.
I am rally appreciate for your help.

Here is what you need to do:
    1. Create a Session Variable in your RPD
    2. Check the "Enable any user to set the value" checkbox in the Session Variable properties
    3. In your dashboard prompt, select"Request Variable" in the Set Variable section
    4. Enter the name of your Session Variable in the box that appears
    5. Now you can reference the session variable in the formula of your logical column. Syntax: VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.YOUR_SESSION_VARIABLE)
Note: You cannot reference Presentation Variables in the RPD

  • Is any Public API available to create the rpd file programatically

    Hi:
In general is there any public API's that can be used to create the rpd file programatically?
I know that there is a discoverer migration tool to convert to rpd file is present in the latest version. But how to do it for the hyperion reports?
Searching for any API's that may be present to create the rpd file programatically.

You can use UDML to make changes to the RPD. However it is not supported by Oracle so you will be by yourself in anything goes wrong. You can also easily see the UDML code if you copy any objects from Administration tool into Notepad. This post will teach you the basics: http://oraclebizint.wordpress.com/2008/04/04/oracle-bi-ee-101332-udml-to-automate-repository-updates-migration-of-repositories-from-development-to-testproduction-environment/

  • One logical column used twice in the prompt

    Hello Gurus,
I have a report which is presently showing
    Sales across country
    COuntry Name | Sales
    USA 100$
    Japan 100$
    Country NAme | Statename 1 | Satename 2 |
    Usa 50$ 100$
But State 1 and state 2 are one logical column called state in the RPD.
User should have the ability to slect some states in state1 prompt and slect some states in state 2 prompt.
If it is not clear let me know?
    With regards!
    Alan

In the prompt take the state column... edit the fx as
Case when 1=0 then "any varchar column name" else "State" end
Drag the same column twice in the prompt.. edit the fx as
Case when 1=0 then "any *other* varchar column name" else "State" end
for the both the columns define the presentation variable pv_state1 , pv_state2
so now you have the same column being used in prompts for two states..
In the Report filter add the filters as
    state is equal to pv_state1
    OR
    state is equal to pv_state2
Note-> to add presentation variable in filter, you have to click on Add-->presentation variable
    Your report is ready...
    Hope it helps...

  • How to change the font of the logical column heading

    I have a situation here.
I have created some logical column in the rpd. When using those columns in the answers the font of the logical column is different and small to that of the other column from the same table, which looks odd.
    for example:
    District (column from table A)
    # Programs (Logical column created on the same column)
suppose district column has the font of Arial and 10, the # Programs has the font of Arial and 6.
I tried to change/modify the views.css, but that didn't help. Could someone please direct me how can we do this. This is killing time a huge way.
    Thanks/

I want to change the column heading name to match with the other column heading name.
In my case I am looking to match the font with the District to that of the # Programs and not the values in the columns.
I appreciate if anyone can help me with this guyz.
    Thanks/

  • Passing Presentation Variables to Guided Navigation

I'm having trouble passing Presentation Variables (and Session Variables) to analyses called via a Guided Navigation link in 11.1.1.5.
    1. Created a dashboard prompt to select from a list of months. The prompt populates a Presentation Variable called pMo.
    2. Created an analysis that displays two columns: Month and '{pMo}'
    3. That analysis has this filter: Month is equal to / is in {pMo}
    4. Put the dashboard prompt and the analysis onto a dashboard page.
    5. Put an Action Link onto the dashboard page, calling that same analysis in a new window.
    6. View the dashboard page
    7. Initial analysis displays an error, which is expected since pMo has no value.
    8. Select a month, which populates pMo. Analysis displays properly. Month and pMo both show correctly.
    9. Click the Action Link.
    10. The new window shows the correct value of Month, but NOTHING in the pMo column.
This is not logical. If the correct value of Month is shown in the new window, that means that Month MUST have been filtered using pMo. But the pMo column shows blank.
I see the exact same behavior with Session Variables. The value of the variable is correctly used to filter the analysis, but that variable's value doesn't show up in the analysis column.
In fact, if I assign a default value for the variable, the Month column shows the "correct" (i.e. selected) value, but the column containing the formula for the variable shows the variable's default value, not the value that was obviously used by the filter.
The problem only occurs in the new window that appears with the Guided Navigation link. The original dashbord page shows correctly.
Here's the error when using a Session variable. Similar error when using Presentation variable.
    Error getting drill information: SELECT "Channels"."Total Channel" saw_0, "Times"."Month" saw_1, VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.Mo) saw_2 FROM "Retrospectives" WHERE "Times"."Month" = 'Mar-2005'

So, if NQ_SESSION.Mo has no value, how did the Filter know that Mar-2005 should be used? NQ_SESSION.Mo DOES have a value. Why won't the column display it?
By the way, in case you're wondering 'what's the big deal', it's this: I want to be able to type a Commission Percent into a text box, store it in a variable, and then use that variable in a calculation within a Guided Nav link. That's what I was originally testing. The description above is what I finally figured out is happening. The variable has a value that can be used as a filter condition, but that value is ignored when used in the columns of that filtered analysis.

Edited by: Mark T. on Jan 7, 2012 7:15 AMI don't have 11g so what I say may not apply to you at all. That being said, it appears that what you are describing is similar to how the Link or Image and Guided Nav. objects work in 10g. Bear with me for a sescond while I explain. In the Link or Image object, you can open a destination report in a new window, but PVs don't pass through. In the Guid. Nav. object, PVs pass through to the destination, but you don't have the option to open the report in a new window. The filtering works, which is why your destination report is properly filtered; it's just that the PV is not passed and therefor the pMo column is blank.
Since you said your destination report opens in a new window, it is acting like the Link or Image object in 10g. So try doing this:
    1) Ensure that your dashboard prompt is set to "dashboard" scope. This being that the PVs with the same name will be set for all dashboard pages, once set in the parent page.
    2) Create a new dashboard page and include the same prompt as in the parent page, and your destination report. Hide the prompt on this page.
    3) Now in your Action Link of the parent report, instead of pointing to the report itself, point it to the dashboard page created in step 2).
My theory is this: With the dashboard prompt set to dashboard scope, the PV of the prompt in the destination page will be set as soon as you hit the "Go" button. This will allow the report in the destination page to be set by the same variable, even though the value is not passed on directly through the Action Link.

  • At max how many logical columns can be created in RPD

    Hi All,
At max how many logical columns can be created in RPD. I have a requirement of creating 200 columns. Will there be any problem .
Is there any predefind number of columns for RPD creation??
    Please help ..

    Hi Annapurna,
There's no limit that I'm aware of or which is mentioned anywhere. Just as an example: I have a logical fact table with around 750 logical columns (>500 original measures & 250 derived measures). No issue whatsoever. Opening the presentation table through answers takes about 2-3 seconds (the NQSQL command has a lot to retrieve), but that's about it.
    Cheers,
    C.

  • Logical Column(s) a.k.a. Pre-calculated Measures

I am looking for best practices around logical columns either in Presentation Layer or Business Layer. Specifically I want to know..
    1) Is it advisable to have logical columns?
    2) How many are good to have? Should one create logical columns for all frequent calculations which are done on dashboards?
    3) Are there any performance implications?
    4) Can we use Time Series function with logical columns? Like AGO etc.
In short I am looking for intelligent pros and cons of such implementations.
PS: Logical columns are derived from physical columns. For e.g. Profit = Income - Expense.
    Regards.

    Hi
    1) all complex logic should be in the BMM layer in the RPD. Yes, it's advisable to have them in the BMM. Although another good practice is to try to delegate all complex calculations to ETL if possible.
    2) As many as deemed necessary. Yes.
    3) No, not really. But if you use Answers' logical columns - you have to be creative in propagating them to other reports.
    4) Yes you can. But again, this is something that's better to have in the RPD.

  • OBIEE 10g - Logical column with static value

I created a logical column with static numeric value in it and added it to presentation layer. The column is not showing up in Answers. All other columns I added are showing up. The issue is with this one only.
I have verified permissions on this column in presentation layer. I tried reloading server metadata in answers, restarting all services but it didn't help.
One thing I noticed this column is showing fx icon instead of Σ icon.

    Kid,
The fx means it is a calculated column/formula and the sigma means that you've added some aggregation type to the column.
Either way it shouldn't matter and your column should be showing up.
I would attempt to create a new column and in the fx field try entering static text and see if that allows the column to be visible after dragging it to the presentation layer subject area.
Also what is the value that you are adding?

  • Logical Column Mapping to Multiple Physical?

I am "learning" OBIEE still and a consultant today showed me something that totally blew my mind
In the OBIEE Admin tool (in verson 10) there are 3 layers displayed. The physical, business management and presentation layer.
I was under the impression that columns would be "mapped" one to one from each layer
The consultant proved me wrong and showed me that in fact, when making a logical column that you can have it "map" to two physical column names
Since every minute with the consultant is $$$ I tried to google around to find out why and how is this so but havent been able to find anything
Could someone explain to me why this would be done?
For example I have the logical column named "Home Faculty" and it is mapped to two physical columns "Faculty Short Desc" & "Main Faculty"
How would OBIEE know which one to use when?
Or does it simply "merge" the data between the two columns into one?

    In this case equi join.
When you are using OBIEE try to see wrt fact table with Table 1 and 2 and follow as I suggest earlier.
    When you use Fact,Table 1 and 2
Physical Layer Joins would be like:
    Fact join with Table 1
    Fact join with Table 2
In BMM I can make 3 tables
    Like
    Fact
    dim 1
    dim 2
    Other case would be
Physical Layer Joins would be like:
    Fact join with Table 1
    Fact join with Table 2
    Table 1's A1,A2 equals Table 2's A1,A2
In BMM I can make 2 tables
    Like
    Fact
    dim sourcing 1 and 2
    a) 1 mapping with 2
    b) dim with LTS 1 and 2
    Hope this helps
If I made it more confuse ;) send me email with US mobile# will call you back

  • Is it possible to pass Presentation Variable into SQL code?

Is it possible to create a Prompts that can pass data inputted in the Prompt to a SQL statement?
    Example
    User inputs
Dashboard Prompt: Date Between today date AND yesterday's date
Which pass information to a measure and labels the the information:
CASE WHEN "Date.Datetable" = {@}DATE1 THEN 'Today' Else 'Yesterday' END FROM "TABLE_Example"

You can pass a selected value from prompt to filter a measure or display it as a dynamic label/column header.
To set the label like a dynamic column header:
    http://total-bi.com/2011/03/obiee-dynamic-column-headings/
If that is for the measure value then use presentation variable and use them in the formula of the column.
If that is to pass value to the physical layer or bmm layer then use session variable, set it using request variable in prompt and use the session variable in bmm or physical layer view.
Let me know if this helped.
