Passing properties file to portal

Hi experts,
I have one application which was built on PDK. I have one properties file which holds connection information of backend. now how can i pass these properties file to portal. In webdynpro java, we can achieve this using application parameters. but in PDK which procedure we have to follow?
one more question is, For PDK applications creating the system object is mandatory or optional?. if mandatory how can we do that one for PDK application?

Hi,
If it is a AbstractPortalComponent, DynPage or JSPDynPage you can put the information in the portalapp.xml file of the project into the component profile-section for example:
    <component-profile>
        <property name="z.system" value="R3_SYSTEM"/>
        <property name="z.debugMode" value="false"/>
    </component-profile>
See [http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/c9/c8af42a6f6cb6ae10000000a155106/frameset.htm|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/c9/c8af42a6f6cb6ae10000000a155106/frameset.htm] for more info about portalapp.xml.
Then in code you access the values:
String system = request.getComponentContext().getProfile().getProperty("z.system");
The properties are visible in iview properties in Content Administration -> PortalContent -> [iview properties] - here you can change them.
Hope that helps,
Romano

  • Reading a properties file in a servlet and passing its contents to a JSP pa

    Hi all,
    I'm totally new to Servlet pgmg n JSP. Please can ne1 tell how to read a simple properties file (in a servlet) and pass its contents to a JSP page.Actually the reason is to fill a combo box in a JSP page with the contents of a properties file.If calling a servlet for the same is d best way to do that, plz can ne1 tell me :
    1> whether to override the doPost method in the servlet in which to read d file using FileInputStream
    2> Putting the contents in an array and then how to pass this array to the JSP page.
    Thanks,
    deepthy.

    I'm using a properties file to let my web application know what the name of the database is. I'm using an abstract class GeneralDao which will be extended by all the DAO's (Data Access Objects or java classes containing SQL statements).
    Here's the code :
    protected Connection getDatabaseConnection()
              throws Melding
         Connection dbconn = null;
         ResourceBundle resBundle;
         try
         Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance();
         resBundle = ResourceBundle.getBundle("gcoConfig");
         String dbConnectie = resBundle.getString("databaseconnection");
         gcoLogger.debug("lezen databaseconnection in resourceBundle " );
         dbconn = DriverManager.getConnection(dbConnectie);
         } catch (InstantiationException exc)The ResourceBundle is used to read the properties file, named gcoConfig.properties.
    With the getString() command I read the content of the string named databaseconnection.
    The gcoConfig.properties file is placed inside the folder C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 5.0\webapps\gco\WEB-INF\classes
    The GeneralDao is placed in the folder C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 5.0\webapps\gco\WEB-INF\classes\org\gertcuppens\cluifDao.
    So this class is placed some folder below the WEB-INF\classes folder of gcoConfig.properties.
    And the content of the properties file is just one line :
    databaseconnection=jdbc:mysql://localhost/cluif
    If you want to let the JSP know what's inside the properties file, wrap the content in a Javabean, put it in the request or even the session and pass the control to the JSP.

  • Read properties file in abstract portal component

    Hi,
    i have test.properties file, i want to read information on this file and its located in src.api/properties . if any one knows How to read this  properties file in abstract portal component please tell me.
    Regards,
    nari.

    Hi Nari,
    Follow the below steps:
    1. Store your properties files (test.properties, test_en.properties, test_xx.properties where xx is the locale ) in the folder PORTAL-INF ->Private ->classes
    2. In portalapp.xml for component-config, add this
    <property name="ResourceBundleName" value="test"/>
    3. In your abstract portal component you can use the below code to fetch the value for the key "SERVER_NAME".
        public void doContent(IPortalComponentRequest request, IPortalComponentResponse response)
             ResourceBundle resourceBundle = request.getResourceBundle();
             if(resourceBundle!=null)
                  response.write(resourceBundle.getString("SERVER_NAME"));
             else
                  response.write("Error");
    Let me know if you still face any issue.

  • Passing Arguments/Properties File to SUN JAVA ONE WEBSERVER at startup

    We are porting a Java App currently running on an Orion Web Server to Sun Java One Web Sever.
    We have found that with the various java application servers we've used over the years, that each want to find the properties file in a different spot. They way we've got around this is that we start Orion with a -D option to java to set a system property called cdsProps. Example: java -DcdsProps=Path_to_properties_file. We then reference that cdsProps arugment throughout the java code so it knows where to find the properties file. Because the cdsProps argument is used thoughout the java code, if the -D option is not used when starting the webserver to point to the properties file, the website will not function properly.

    in the case above, the command line arguments are passed in the aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarggggggggggs array
    you probably want aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarggggggggggs[0] for the filenameAm not sure i understand, do you mean i must change the param of the main method to String[] args[0] as this resulted in error when i did so. Or do you mean at command line instead file simply being passed to the Compressor program as
    "java Compressor < examplefilename"
    It has to be "java Compressor < examplefilename[0]" ?
    If you could expand on this, would be grateful,
    Thanks.

  • How to set JVM system properties in Oracle Portal ??

    Hello Guys,
    I want to set javax.net.ssl.trustStore="path to keystore" ,JVM system properties on oracle portal,
    Like i want to configure my keystore with oracle portal so that my application can make a success full connection with back end using https.
    i read the following note from one of the Oracle tech note,which says that
    It is important that this system property is passed as a command line option to Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE (OC4J). Setting the property in oc4j.properties will not help because the system property is read first before OC4J reads this file. Therefore, it is best to modify the <java-option> line in the OC4J_portal section of ORACLE_HOME/opmn/conf/opmn.xml.
    So, i made the required changes to OC4J_portal section of opmn.xml file as below
    added value is shown in bold
    <data id="java-options" value="-server -Xrs -Djava.security.policy=C:\oracle\OraPortal\j2ee\OC4J_Portal\config\java2.policy -Djava.awt.headless=true -Xmx256m -Djavax.net.ssl.trustStrore=C:\keystore1 -Djavax.net.ssl.trustStrorePassword=password1"/>
    Even after making these changes, my application not able to make connection using https.
    Could u guys explain me, what things are going wrong or somethings else i need to do to make it work.
    Any thoughts would be highly appreciated.

  • How Can i specify multiple server names in rwservlet.properties  file?

    How Can i specify multiple server names in rwservlet.properties file without clustering?
    I am using oracle 10g Application server. we have 3 servers Repsvr1, RepSvr2 and RepSvr3. Now i need to configure rwservlet.properties file to point to these servers based on any running report. i got 3 keymap files with reports info.
    Sample entry in the key map file is:
    key1: server=Repsvr1 userid=xxx/yyy@dbname report=D:\Web\path1\path2\reports\Report1.rdf destype=cache desformat=PDF %*
    key2: server=Repsvr2 userid=xxx/yyy@dbname report=D:\Web\path1\path3\reports\Report2.rdf destype=cache desformat=PDF %*
    rwservlet.properties file letting me to enter only one servername. Even though i merged all 3 keymap files into 1, still i have the server name issue. If i leave the server to the default name still i am getting the below error.
    REP-51002: Bind to Reports Server Repsvr1 failed. However, i know the default rep_<servername> would be used incase we dont have SERVER=<value> parameter in the rwservlet.properties file.
    If i specify the servername in the rwservlet.properties file then only Repsvr1 reports are working fine and other 2 server reports are giving the same error like
    REP-51002: Bind to Reports Server <<Server Name>> failed.
    how can i configure the info which will work all 3 reports. 2 Port servers are invoking using oracle forms and report server is invoking using ASP pages.
    If i specify Server name & Key map file in rwservlet.properties one at a time, all the reports are working without any error, whenever i am trying to integrate all 3 to workable i am getting binding error. if i exclude the server from rwservlet.properties still i am getting the same error.

    My RELOAD_KEYMAP setting is YES only.As i said If i specify Server name & Key map file in rwservlet.properties one at a time, all the reports are working without any error.
    keymap file entries
    key1: server=Repsvr1 userid=xxx/yyy@dbname report=D:\Web\path1\path2\reports\Report1.rdf destype=cache desformat=PDF %*
    key2: server=Repsvr2 userid=xxx/yyy@dbname report=D:\Web\path1\path3\reports\Report2.rdf destype=cache desformat=PDF %*
    If i use http://server.domain:port/reports/rwservlet? cmdkey = key1 should bring the report from Repsvr1 and http://server.domain:port/reports/rwservlet? cmdkey = key2 should bring the report from Repsvr2, but i am getting an error from Repsvr2 saying that REP-51002: Bind to Reports Server repsvr2 failed.
    Only Servername Repsvr1 is in rwservlet.properties file. Now what is the best option to by pass the server from rwservlet.properties file and should be from keymap file. if i comment server name in rwservlet.properties file still i am getting REP-51002: Bind to Reports Server <<Server Name>> failed error for both keys.

  • Runtime exeception after deploying PAR file in portal

    Hi ,
    I am facing an issue during the deployment of PAR file in our  Quality portal. I have download the PAR file from the system-->import to the NWDS--> did the modification (only to the properties files as part of my requirement) -->Export as PAR file. I then undeploy the previous earlier PAR file and then upload the modified PAR file in portal. When i test the application , i received portal runtime error.
    I have also tried by downloading the PAR file for the same application from the production portal and tried importing to Quality system without making any modification to the PAR. I still face the same issue.
    Due to this issue, i am not able to bring the application back as its not getting deployed properly. Can anyone help me on this.
    Regards
    Ray

    Hi Ray,
    Are you sure your file is getting deployed properly. Can you verify if the time stamp of the PAR file is getting updated on each deployment or after you upload it through Portal.
    Also, please check the PAR file (size and it's contents by unzipping the PAR file) that you've downloaded from PROD and deploying on QAS to ensure that the file is not corrupted by any means during downloading.
    You can also ask your BASIS team to provide the PAR file directly from PROD server and try to upload it on QAS instead of you downloading it from PROD portal.
    Also, you can follow the below steps to download the PAR file yourself from PROD portal with Administrator ID:
    Browse to the following location : System administration->Support->Portal Runtime->Browse deployment->ROOT/WEB-INF/deployment/temp
    1. Find and Identify the PAR file and Copy the name of PAR file.
    2. Click on view instead of download link to save the PAR file. Keep the name of PAR file same while saving with .par extension.
    3. Deploy this file on QAS Portal.
    Please let us know the results.

  • How to read properties file(key-value) in OSB?

    Hi
    I have a scenario in which I have to read some properties(key-value) from a file. Earlier whole code was developed in java and its easy to read properties file in java.
    But now need to implement this in OSB and performance is very critical in this project.

    But it did not work. I have hundreds of properties(key-value pairs) to read and need pass them to the business service along with input of proxy service.
    What is the best approach for this (Can not go for db call as performance is very critical)?

  • Best Practice: passing properties to a Singleton

    Hi,
    I have an object in my app that must only exist once. It is a DatabasConnectionPool. I would like to implement it as a Singleton and access it from anywhere in the app with
    DatabaseConnectionPool dbcp = DatabaseConnectionPool.getInstance();
    But the thing is that I would like to pass it some settings: number of connections to the database, username and password, ...
    If I had a constructor for the class I would pass a Properties object with the constructor containig all the values but how do I do it with a Singleton?
    Right now I have:
    class Singleton {
    private static Properties _appProps = null;
    private static Singleton _instance = null;
    static public void setProperties(Properties appProps) {
    _appProps = appProps;
    static public Singleton getInstance() {
    if (null == _instance) {
    instance = new Singleton(appProps);
    private Singleton(Properties props) {
    So, the Launch code for the application reads the .properties files and calls:
    DatabaseConnectionPool.setProperties(props);
    WebServer.setProperties(props);
    LDAPServer.setProperties(props);
    Thanks a lot for your time guys!
    Rafa

    You don't need synchronization at all if you do it the way a previous post suggested:
    private static Singleton instance = new Singleton();
    public Singleton getInstance(){
        return instance;
    }This is lazy initialization by default because the singleton instance will only be created when the class is loaded into memory. It will be loaded into memory when you first call getInstance() so it's already using lazy initialization.
    The properties question seems to have several options
    1. Use your setProperties method to pass in dynamic properties. This will potentially make your singleton behave differently between uses if you change its properties while it's running.
    2. Hardcode the properties inside the singleton. This doesn't allow dynamic changes.
    3. Your connection pool is probably dishing out Connection objects and creating new ones when needed right? So, put the Connection creation in a different class called ConnectionFactory and pass in the factory to the singleton. This way you can customize the kind of connections to make in the factory without changing the singleton code. All the singleton cares about is saying factory.createConnection() and returning it.

  • Report server name in rwservlet.properties file

    Hi all,
    I dont want to hard code the report server name while calling report from the form...
    I have used....
         vrep := RUN_REPORT_OBJECT(myreport1);
    /* Checking for Report Server is started or not, if not throw an exception else proceed */
         if vrep = vrep||'_0'then
         raise form_trigger_failure;
    end if;
         vjob_id := substr(vrep,length(vc_reportserver)+2,length(vrep));
         vrep_status := REPORT_OBJECT_STATUS(vrep);
    where vc_reportserver is assigned a value of my report server name...
    If I edit rwservlet.properties file and give
    server=<my rep server name>,
    How can i read this value from the form ? Any help please?
    I know there is a way to do in formsweb and default.env. But I want to know the way how to used in rwservlet.properties file and use it in the form.
    Kindly help
    Priya

    Thanks Francois for your reply.
    You can pass this value in the formsweb.cfg file (otherparams=)So, in forms I have to create a parameter matching with the one what I have mentioned in otherparams. right?
    you can read it from a database parameter's table (solution I prefer).So, just storing the report server name in database and fetch like
    select --- from tablename! Is it so?
    And apart from this, may I know why you prefer this method?
    And why not rwservlet.properties??

    Hi Vijay,
    You can try this piece of code too:
    Properties props = new Properties();
    //try retrieve data from file
    //catch exception in case properties file does not exist
    try {
             props.load(new FileInputStream("c:\property\Test.properties")); //File location
             String serverName = props.getProperty("servername"); //Similarly, you can access the other properties
             if(serverName==null)

  • Read a Properties File in a Static Floating Block

    I am trying to read a properties file in a static floating block:
       static
          try
             Properties p = new Properties();
             String path = "/WEB-INF/classes";
             InputStream is = getClass().getResourceAsStream( path + "artimus_message_MessagInboxConfig.properties" );
             p.load(is); // load the stream into the Properties object
             WEBSITE_HOME = p.getProperty( "WEBSITE_HOME" );
             setWebSiteHome( WEBSITE_HOME );
          catch { ......}
       }I got a compilation error saying that the non-static method getClass() cannot be referenced from a static context. There is almost no way to make this static floating block non-static. What should I do?

    Thanks for the reply. But, huh... I do not quite
    understand. Which class is MyClass?It's a generic placeholder for whichever class your put that block into. You wouldn't put it there literally--replace it with the name of the actual class. If that block is in Foo.java, then use Foo.class instead of MyClass.class.
    >
    Okay, this static floating block is in a class called
    MessageInboxConfig.java. Then use MessageInboxConfig.class.getResourceAsStream(...)
    And inside this static
    floating block, I am reading a properties file and
    this properties file is in the
    ContextRoot/WEB-INF/classes/artimus_message_MessagInbox
    onfig.propertiesHow do I read this properties file?
    Properties p = new Properties();
    InputStream is = MessageInboxConfig.class.getResourceAsStream("artimus_message_MessagInboxConfig.properties" );
    ... etc. ...You shouldn't need to specify "WEB-INF/classes," since it should be in your classpath. What you pass to getResource is a path relative to a directory in your classpath.
