Passing values from sub sequence to caller

Hi All
I am using TestStand 4.0.
In the setup of my top level sequence I call a sub sequence to calibrate RF cable losses on the test site. These cable losses need to be passed back up to the top level sequence so they can then be stored and used throughout the rest of the program. Problem is I have tried File globals and Parameters but cannot get the information to flow back up the tree. The reference manual says I can do this, but doesnt say how or give examples. I'm sure it's just a case of setting the right flags or passing by reference etc but I've just about lost patience with it. We don't want to use Station globals as these RF cable losses are only relevant to this program.

You need to set the Parameter in the sequence as 'by Reference'. Infact, when you insert a variable in the Parameters, by default it is 'by reference'.
This allows you to pass data back to the caller. eg if you had a boolean called Status in Parameters. Then in your Sequence you could set Parameters.Status = True. Caller Step would receive Status as True into the variable you sepecified in the Parameters list in the Edit Sequence Call dialog.
Have a look at the Computer Motherboard Test Sequences.seq in TestStand examples demo folder, In CPU Diagnostic Sequence.seq in the MainSequence is a boolean called CPUFail that is passed back to the Caller sequence.

Hi Alebet,
With reporting services to pass values from sub report in to main report is not supported directly.
But there are some workarounds through which you can get this .
There are two ways to get this.
1- Put your sub report query into some table. i mean to say through the subreport query get some temporary table.
2- Using this temporary tables data write some Scala function in the data base.
3- Now in your main report query return this scala function as a column.
4- Extract the column value where ever you want in your main report which is getting calculated from the subreport query. so you will be getting the values returned from the subreport in the main report.
This will definitely work fine as i have done some report in this way.
Another way of doing is that
1- prepare another data set with the same query as in sub report in the data tab.
2- then refer this 2nd dataset in your main report .
But better way will be the top one.
Anyway please let me know if you get the solution.

Hi Try this.
Create a formula like this in subreport1 (from the report where you want to pass your value)
Whileprintingrecrods;
Shared Numbervar x :={subreport1Value};
Then go to 2nd sub report and Create a formula like this
Whileprintingrecrods;
Shared Numbervar x ;
Note :Your sub report1 should execute before sub report2 .That means sub report1 should be in the above section of sub report2

You can use the same method to pass values from main report to a subreport.
1) Create a formula @mainFormula in the main report, as given in item 1 of link.
2) Place this formulla in a suppressed report footer section above the target subreport.
3) In the subreport, create a formula @subFormula that declares the same variable name, as given in item 3 of link.
4) Place @subFormula column in the subreport where you want to display it.

Passing Values to a User Form called from a button

Experts:
Recently, Edward Neveux pointed me in the direction of how to find information on displaying a Form when clicking a button on a screen. I use this line of code to show a screen after clicking on a button on the Item Master Data screen:

Now I need to pass information from the Item Master Data screen to this screen I am displaying from the button click.
Can this be done?

What information do you need to pass ? If is information from controls on the Item Master Data screen what you could do is ...
1. On the load event of the Item Master Data capture Form with either
         mstrFormUID = oForm.UniqueID ' string variable to use it later on expresion like below
     or
         moForm = SBO_Application.Forms.Item(oForm.UniqueID) ' SAP form type variable
2. Notice that both variables are modal, so once you have uploaded your form the parent form (Item Master is kept on memory). With these form you can then code your way to obtain the existing value on the Item Master screen to your screen. For Instance,
        oForm.Items.Item("URText").Specific.Value = moForm.Items.Item("5").Specific.Value ' Passing value from "Item Number" textbox to your text box on your screen.

I think he meant the global namespace.
You set a :global_your_name_here to a value and that value is available in your entire application. See the help file section on the global namespace for more information.
Forms parameters are parameters that you form picks up from the outside when it starts. The calling entity must supply them in the URL or they will be set to null. You set them up in the object navigator in the Parameters node.

Try to set your values in Method->"wddomodify" of the View in which Adobe Form is present. Java Thread - difficulty while passing value from parent to child thread

I am calling a java program from a unix script .
My oblectives are
1)to pass value from scripts to main java class
2)main class should create a child thread and pass data to child and should return control back to script
3)child thread should run independtly of parent
The calling unix script is part of process and hence should return control back to its calling script immediately.
Findings
1)Without passing data thru setter getter /constructor method to child thread my objectives are met
2)When I pass the data from parent thread to child thread calling unix scripts wait till child thread finishesh its working

You seem to be confusing Java Threads with Operating System Processes.
If you want you're java program to run in the unix background then you'll need to run it in the unix background. Java (being o/s agnostistic) doesn't provide process manipulation functionality (which would include the ability to throw itself into the background, as a C program can) in the standard API, and it's hard to imagine any third party producing anything as low level as a process controler... so yeah, just start the java program in the background... and you'll need to workout some interprocess communication protocol... named pipes have worked well for me in the past, as they doesn't suffer from the quit same performance issues as real disk files.

Dear All,
I am Automating STATSPACK reporting by modifying the sprepins.sql script.
Using DBMS_JOB I take the snap of the database and at the end of the day the cron job creates the statspack report and emails it to me.
I am storing the snapshot ids in the database and when running the report picking up the recent ids(begin snap and end snap).
From the sprepins.sql script

This fails with the following error:

could it be the begin_ and end_ Colums of your query?
Seems SQL*PLUS hs parsing problems?
try to fetch another column from that table
and see if the error raises again.

Multiple values from a sequence ?

Hi all,
how can i guarantee that a user gets multiple values from a sequence in a row? (for example : 100, 101 ,102, 103)
It should not happened that another user gets a sequence value such as 102.
Can i solve this with sequences or do i need a table?

Why would you want to do this? The easiest way of implementing it is through a code control table, which can be locked by user 1. However, this is only easy for you, not for your users. Consider: user 2 cannot do their work until user 1 commits. Note that if user 1 inserts three records (101, 102, 103) and then commits, user 2 can grab 104. User 1 can't insert any more records until user 2 commits. At which point user 1 can have 105.
If you really have a business need for such a palaver then you ought to implement it through user-owned objects - sequences or tables - with each user assigned a unique range e.g. user 1 gets 101 to 150, user 2 gets 151 to 200. When a user exhausts their range give them a new chunk. This is an admin overhead and it also means that you can no longer guarantee that ID 157 is more recent than 133.
To repeat: why do you want to do this?

I am trying to pass values from a pop up window to the main window that popped this child window , with the idea to have the parent window refresh itself with value from pop up window.But the values are not going through.I do a request on the hidden variable but when the parent

Í have a scenario where i need to pass value from Crystal Report to a Business view's parameter.
Eg : CurrentCEUsername (func in crystal report)-- gives login user which i should pass to parameter in a Business view (used in the same report).

I guess you got the picture wrong. User_id is not a report_level parameter .
In Data Foundation, below query is used..
select Acc_Number, Account_Group,User_id from Accounts where user_id={?User_id}
where in {?User_id} is the BV parameter...
The Filter was a solution. But it takes long time to Query all the data from DB and then filter at BV level.
How do i pass the CurrentCEUsername to {?User_id}
Value should ve CurrentCEusername always. so that query will be
select Acc_Number, Account_Group,User_id from Accounts where user_id=CurrentCEusername
It will restrict the data pulled from DB to BV .. right?

Did you write the perl program? Can you change it? Or are you trying to interface to something that already exists? This will limit your options, of course.
Anyway the first option is simple. The java program does this:
System.out.println("This is a line of input.");The perl program does this:
while(<>)and in that block, $_ is assigned to each line of input.
Then you can invoke both like this:
$ java MyJavaProgram | perl MyPerlProgram.pl
