Simulate password masking in a XUL dialog's textbox

Due to a Flash bug in CS5 & CS5.5, I've been forced to generate a dialog with straight XUL instead of XUL opening a swf. I'm trying to stylize the textbox textfield to mask the password entered and I'm having issues coming up with a solution for this. It seems the most straight-forward way to mask would be to assign the textfield a strange font which would serve this purpose - like WingDings. However, i'm not sure of the correct way to stylize a textbox via CSS. I'd like to be able to have the CSS inline in the XUL's XML file, similar to how you can have inline script:

Am I on the right track or can anyone give me insight on how I might go about accomplishing a password mask in a textbox?

I've set up a test windowSWF - this will show up as a panel when you open Flash after installing this. Simply double-click it on a machine where the CS suite is installed - extension manager will open and install it. Then open Flash (if it was already open, re-open it). Open the test panel in Windows > Other Panels > test. Once open, you'll notice that it will have one button in the panel called "Launch" - press it. Notice the resulting dialog that shows up - this dialog will contain three textfields to input data. If you're on a Mac on CS5 or CS5.5, notice that you can't type the letter "a" more than once. This is the bug I'm referring to. If you're on a PC, you won't exhibit this behavior.
To get around this bug, I took the swf dialog out of the equation and built the dialog strictly in XML2UI / XUL - xml below. The problem is, I can't mask the password textbox. I can't do an "onchange" on this textfield because if I replace what the user is typing, the textbox registers that replacement as a change = infinite loop. Flash crashes immediately. The only thing I can think of is to change / stylize the font for just that textbox to something strange like WingDings, so when a user is typing, they can at least keep track of how many characters they are typing but not the actual characters they've typed.

Password Masking & Background Color for Multiple Rows in Tabular Form

I have a requirement of making a column in Tabular form, having multiple rows, masked(password field). I also want to give bg color to this field indicating that its a mandatory field.
I am unable to accomplish both at a time in my page. I am using Apex 3.2.

APEX_ITEM API doesnot have a password function, but input fields of type password are available in HTML.
So you would have to change the field type to password in JS
That is from :
<input type="text" ...change it to
<input type="password" ...If you were using jQuery it would have been simpler, but to do it in native JS it is a bit more hard work.
Anyway here goes (a quick check in a tabular form seens to work fine)

Interactive Image Panning within a Mask

Hey guys thanks for the help so far. The last piece to the
puzzle for me is figuring out how to scroll a movie clip within a
mask. I'm currently working with the script taken from the
Interactive Image Panning tutorial on kirupa.com as a base. Right
now the script references the entire Stage area for scrolling the
image whereas I want this to happen just within a mask. How do I

you have a background image and a mask made up of 72 squares
(1 symbol, 72 instance of that 1)
if thats right. i just tried it also all i is 1 box working.
mainly cause there symbols. so how do you do 72 easy make it 1
symbol but not the easy way your ganna have to make it the long way
ill try to help...
go from the stage into the mask symbol so you can see the
background image. now instead of having 72 instances just copy
frames and make 72 layers then move them to fill screen. making
your checked desolve look possible.

Quick mask problem ..?

When i use the quick mask tool it always gives me the inverse selection .. ì have to invert it manually every time. what could be the problem ? any advice would be appreciated..

Double click on the Quick Mask Symbol and make the switch.

BB Pearl Missing Symbols in Internet Browser

I am having a problem with missing symbols within the internet browser. When I attempt to use the symbols button in the internet browser, only one page appears (no matter how many times I push it - it says page 1/1). There is only the first page of symbols which is full.
This causes alot of problems because most of my passwords have symbols such as % that are on the second page of the symbols sections. So I am unable to log into anything from my BlackBerry.
The symbols are not missing in other functions of the BlackBerry such as texting and emailing, and I have access to 6 pages of symbols in texting and 3 pages of symbols in composing emails.
I have been having this problem for a while, and I am not sure what happened. I think whatever happened occured when I upgraded the software to the newest version.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

OK, I found it, someone had turned on some of the Restrictions, and had them set backwards which disabled them for me. All better now.

Stacking several masking layers don't work.

Hi,
The attachment contains two screen shots of a movie clip timeline. The images consist of a text mask symbol sliding diagonally other a text layer, and a picture button sliding to the left under an aqua blue mask.
When I scrub the timeline -- things work great. But when I view the movie via the control menu, the dynamic text is not displayed.
The images illustrate the masking layers in unlocked and locked mode.
I have no idea on how to fix the problem. Any suggesting is appreciated.

From the labrary components, its module object is: MultiPage>page1>page1_mc
However, I realized, I forgot to meantion the keyframe on the main time line. Do the following steps.
An alternative method to see the timeline starting from the stage is to put the bottom layer, whole Gallery in outline mode.
On the main time line select keyframe 4, on bottom layer.
Put the mouse on the second green outline box from the left-bottom croner of the stage. It should change to a 4-way arror.
Double click on it. Module frameMulti_mc should open up. Then put layer page1_mc in outline mode.
Lock all layers but for page1_mc. Select keyframe 1 on layer page1_mc. A movieclip circle should appear
Double click the movie clip circle in the middle of the left object. A time line with 36 frames should appear.
scrub it to frame 36. The text should appear.
Also, if you run it via the test movie command, it's gallery 4 in the movie swf.
I also attached a flash CS4 Classroom In a Book illustration file. It's the example I'm trying to simulate.

Re-set clipping mask

I made a circle with the pen tool under 'paths'. Then, on the same path layer, I made another circle inside. usually when I make it an active selection / marquee, it acknowledges to combine these 2 paths and leave the inner most circle alone. Sometimes if it selects the outer most confines of the canvas, I hit 'inverse' and then it grabs what I intended it to select. But not this time...something needs to be reset. How? How can I get to go with the paths I created without having to use 'inverse'?

By command-clicking the Mask-symbol in the Layers Panel You can make it a Selection again and apply that as a Mask to any other Layer.
Or You can alt-drag the Mask-symbol to another Layer.
Or You can apply the Mask to a Group and place multiple Layers in that.

Isql: symbol lookup error: SQLGetPrivateProfileStringW

I am trying to connect to an oracle database on remote machine using ODBC.
I am using x86_64 Linux CentOS 5 machine.
I configured ODBC as per the directions in

I created system DSN for oracle 11g in /etc/odbc.ini and Driver in /etc/odbcinst.ini
my ORACLE_HOME and LD_LIBRARY_PATH are configured accordingly.
I installed the Driver and System DSN using odbcinst.
When I use isql to connect to the remote oracle. I get the following error.

The problem is not in the supportability, the problem lies in the fact that this driver is untested and doesn't work.
I was able to successfully do the trick with the ODBC driver for 10.2 but the 11g version doesn't work, it's missing
a symbol. For your information, this driver doesn't work even on OEL 5.2, which is supported. Just blasting people for using the unsupported combination will not change the fact that neither dg4odbc nor the ODBC
driver itself are working. Both are hopelessly broken.
If you ever asked yourself why is the adoption of 11g so slow, the answer is that is largely untested and significant parts of it don't work. I had a problem with fast switchover to standby which did work in one direction, but could not get back and I still have a problem with ODBC drivers which are programmed sloppily. I suggested my management not to go to 11g for at least another year. New features of 11g are fascinating but the software quality is appalling, to put it mildly. There are show stopping bugs all over the place.
Other than that, my understanding of this forum is that it is intended for a free form exchange of information. Blasting people for testing possibilities doesn't seem like the right answer to me. On the other hand, any
other answer would be inconsistent with Dan Morgan.

Needing Layer Mask help

I want to know how to make the floral brush take on the whites of the background images and then how to get the background image take on the white background with floral design overlayed into background iamge.....

Draw the floral elment on a new empty layer. Then do one of the two possible things:
- paint the flower on a new empty layer
- use Ctrl+click on the layer thumbnail to load your flower as a selection
- select the photo layer (if it is still labeled Background, double click to turn it into a floating layer)
- use the layer mask symbol in the layers palette to apply your active selection as a new layer mask (the little dashed circle)
- repeat the above steps with a white solid, but invert the selection before converting it to a mask
- cleanup and refine the mask by painting directly on the mask and using all the otehr tools
or you could
- paint the flower on a new empty layer
- move it above the layer you want to mask
- hold down Alt while hovering over the little separator between layers to use the layer as a group mask for the photo
- duplicate and invert the flower
- connect it to a white solid in the same manenr as described above

Hi,
Are you talking of the login help (support -> reset password) mask? There it makes few sense to ask for the old password, as the use case for this is a user who has forgotten his password! Nevertheless, it's not much work for example to reduce the needed input to userID for example (it's a small change in the corresponding JSP and within one small Java class, which checks the input; just done some days ago for a customer).
On the other hand, if a user know his password, he can choose "Personalize" (he has to have the corresponding role (in fact means the Portal Personalization workset), and from within that one, he can create a new password - just also by providing his old one, exactly as you expect.

I think you are asking whether it makes an difference whether you create the mask before or after you edit the black & white version. The answer is that since the color version and the b&w version are on different layers (as seen here), it makes no difference when you edit the b&w version.
Also consider another technique that separates the color element in the image. Here, the area surrounding the color image is a line interpretation of the scene, similar to a Tone Line Conversion, a technique that was created with film many years ago. (I am so old, I still remember how it was done.) This is how to get the result similar to the one shown above but with a line illustration created in Photoshop replacing the b&w layer version:
1. Open an image. This technique is more successful if the image you select has many clearly defined edges.
2. Make a duplicate layer. (Cmd+J). It becomes Layer 1
3. With Layer 1 chosen, go to Filter>Blur>Smart Blur. Set the Quality to High and the Mode to Edge Only. The default settings are Radius 3.0, Threshold 25.0. To increase the amount of detail in the line conversion, raise the Radius setting. Use the white-on-black illustration within Smart Blur as a guide. Then click OK.
4. The line illustration will appear as white lines in a black background. To change this to black-on-white, choose Image>Adjustments>Invert.
5. Insert a new layer below Layer 1. It will serve as the background for the line illustration. To do this, hold down the Command key while clicking on the New Layer symbol at the bottom of the Layers panel. It is the second symbol from the right. It will become Layer 2.
6. Fill this new layer with a light color. To do this, click on the Foreground Color symbol in the Tools section. It will open the Color Picker. Choose a light color and click OK.
7. Choose Edit>Fill. Use: Foreground Color. Mode: Normal. Opacity: 100% and click OK. Layer 2 will fill with the color. Although it will not appear in the image because Layer 1 is above it, a quick check of the Layers panel will confirm that the color you chose has filled Layer 2.
8. Remove the white area from in Layer 1. Go to Layer 1. Choose the Magic Wand tool. Uncheck the Contiguous box in the Options Bar and click in a white area of the image. Next, click the Delete key. Choose Select>Deselect to remove the marching ants.
9. (Optional) You may now change the line illustration in Layer 1 from black to a dark color compatible with the color in Layer 2. To choose the color, click on the Foreground Color symbol in the Tools section. It will open the Color Picker. Choose a suitable dark color and click OK. While in Layer 1, click the first symbol next to the word Lock: in the Layers panel above Layer 1. This will prevent the dark color from appearing in the blank area of Layer 1. Choose Edit>Fill. Use: Foreground Color. Mode: Normal. Opacity: 100% and click OK. The black lines will change to the dark color you chose.
10. Combine Layers1 and 2: While in Layer 1, choose Layer>Merge Down. The layers are combined into a single layer called Layer 2.
11. Add a black mask to Layer 2 by clicking on the Mask symbol at the bottom of the Layers panel. It is the symbol to the right of the fx symbol. Where you would like full color objects to appear within the line rendition, paint in white on the black mask with a brush set to either soft-edge or hard-edge as the illustration and your taste dictate.

How do I install a printer?

yes I know it sounds like an idiotic question; please bear with me. I have a relatively modern (<1 year old) business colour laserjet (Kyocera Mita Ecosys FS-C5025N) which is connected to my home network via wired ethernet. My MBP is also connected to my network via wired ethernet. My problem is that having once installed my printer (and had it working) I had to turn the printer off to clear a job and now my MBP won't communicate with it.
When I turned it off and on again, the DHCP on my network gave my printer a new address (192.168.1.5 instead of 192.168.1.19). So I'm guessing that OS X has 'lost' it in some way. My solution was to go into System Preferences, Print and Fax, and delete the printer, with the expectation of being able to reinstall it. however, the problem is that when I click '+' in Print and Fax to add a printer, my K-M printer is nowhere to be found (when I installed it the first time, OS X found the printer automatically and I just selected it).
So how can I find/install this printer again? When I click the + in Print & Fax now I am presented with 4 options, default, Fax, IP and Windows. If I select IP and put in 192.168.1.5 under 'Address' (using all other default options, protocol = Line printer Daemon LPD, etc) it finds the printer. However, once installed, when I check the printer out, I see a yellow 'attention triangle' with the message 'this printer was not installed properly'.
I thought that I would try downloading the driver from the Kyocera Mita site. I've done this and installed the printer this way ... it all ran correctly but when I go back into Print & Fax - no printer is to be found? Is there a secret directory somewhere into which I must go and delete something rogue that's gumming up my system?
Any ideas, you gurus out there? Solved Stars await! Please.

Looking up Bonjour I see that it's a 'IP protocol to allow devices to automatically discover each other without the need to enter IP addresses or configure DNS servers'. When I set up the printer the first time, I do recall OS X finding it and the word Bonjour was there (I just didn't know what it meant). So I'm guessing that the printer must have had the right responder settings for it to work. It's just this time round it's not finding it. Nothing has changed on the printer end (apart from switch-off, switch-on). Hence, as I've come from 20+ years in Windows, I know that sometimes you have to delete registry entries to clear a problem before reinstalling a device, I wondered if there was a similar Apple procedure?
Looking at the manual, I see that the printer is PCL6 and Postscript3 compatible with auto emulation sensing. So I've set up the first test to be as an IP printer, LPD, inputting the address 192.168.1.5 in the Address field, and using the generic PCL driver as you suggest. When I click Add, I don't see any options but I guess that's because of the generic driver. The printer now appears in my Print & Fax box, but when I double click it I see a new box which says that the printer software was installed incorrectly, please re-install. Despite this, I can print to it (I tested from within Word). But I have no advanced options.
I would like to set up a second test using the Kyocera printer driver (using the generic PCL driver doesn't give me any printer options). I have downloaded this one here http://usa.kyoceramita.com/americas/jsp/Kyocera/download_center.jsp?pid=16744&pc at=10563&rcid=10009&rscid=10007#bottom, selecting the 'Kyocera Mita OSX 10.4 & 10.5 installer v 1.0' and the 'Kyocera Mita OSX 10.6 Permissions Fix' as you suggest in your reply. The former download a .mpkg.zip file which I extracted (53 items) using zipeg. When I ran the file it said that it was an installer for the printer, and completed successfully. When I checked in Print & Fax, clicked the +, there was no KM-printer installed (under default). This is consistent with the blurb about the permissions fix, which should fix this I guess?
So I then downloaded and unzipped the Permissions Fix, which put a folder (containing a file called Kyocera OS X 10.6 solution.command) on my desktop. When I try to run this I receive the message 'this file could not be executed because you do not have the appropriate access privileges'. I'm the only user on my MBP with full privilege? When I checked through Finder, Get Info I have Read & Write access for this file.
There is a PDF which I've found to install this file. It says
Follow the Installation Instructions below to install the MAC 10.6 PPD Patch. The Patch will allow a new Kyocera Printer to be added.
Subject: 10.6 PPD File Patch Installation Instructions
On KMAconnect Download and run the OSX 10.4 & 10.5 Installer. (DONE)
Download the OSX10.6 permissionfix.zip file to your Mac running OSX 10.6.(DONE)
Double click the zip file to extract the contents to the desktop folder. (DONE)
Double click the file called Kyocera OS X 10.6 solution. A Terminal window will open. (NO IT DOESN'T, I GET THE ERROR MESSAGE ABOVE)
Key in the password for the (Root) Administrator when prompted for the changes to take affect. (CAN'T DO THIS DUE TO ERROR MESSAGE ABOVE...)
Note: When keying in the Administrator Password, the Terminal window will keep the Password Masked so it will not display any change in the window when the characters are being input. If there is no password assigned, one must be created before running the OSX10.6 solution file.
You can now add a Kyocera Printer in the normal manner.
Any thoughts on how I can run this file?
I don't know if it matters but the PDF says the file in the Permissions Fix is called Kyocera OS X 10.6 solution but it's actually called Kyocera OS X 10.6 solution.command ...?

New to Cisco, ASA5505 Help

Afternoon guys,
I have decided I want to learn Cisco so made the decision to pick up a used ASA 5505 from ebay and use it as my main firewall/router. I have it installed and working but have a few questions about configuration, as some of what i have done seems like a very inefficient way of setting things up.
My Basic config is this
O2 ADSL Modem in bridge only mode 192.168.1.254 > ASA 5505 Public Static IP >ASA Inside 192.168.1.1 > Rest of internal LAN.
I have spotted this blog post that details how to get to the modems WebUI through a Cisco router, But i am not sure how I would implement it in my network setup so would like advice on this.

The other thing I would like to ask is about PAT, I have configured it to allow Ports 3074TCP/UDP and 88TCP inbound to my Xbox to allow Xbox live to work. But I would like to know if there is a better way to do this using object groups.

What I would like to know is there a better more efficient way of setting this up as I have 3 network objects with 3 NAT statements and 1 ACL.
Finally I have attempted to configure a Client VPN on the ASA and it works and connects but the problem is it only appears to let web traffic through. If i connect using the VPN built into my iPhone and try a ping using using Ping Lite app i dont get any responce's. but if you open safari and put in 192.168.1.4 I get the WebUI of my NAS device if i try to RDP to my home server the connection times out. If i drop the VPN and connect to Wifi i can ping and RDP from my phone ok so it must be a config problem.

Hi,
Adding the following configurations should allow ICMP through the ASA (for the echo-reply to come through also without using ACL)
policy-map global_policy class inspection_default
inspect icmp
Unless you had already added this.
You might also find the following documents/video helpfull. It shows off some of the common NAT configurations. This was mostly to help the people that were moving from the old to the new format. But it should be helpfull to you also. I know I sometimes double check there.

Regarding the NAT configurations for modem management, I cant guarantee this will work but the first configuration that came to mind is the following (kind resembles the NONAT configuration)
Though I'm not really sure if this would work as the LAN network and the outside management IP is from the same network. But you can always try.
