Password MySQL (Tiger 10.4)

I have a few questions.
1). When I try to log into MySQL (sudo /Library/StartupItems/MySQLCOM/MySQLCOM start)
UNIX asks for a password. The Problem is that I have not created a password, or should I have?
All I did was download a package, mysql-5.0.51a-osx10.4-powerpc.dmg, from the website: http://dev.mysql.com/get/Downloads/MySQL-5.0/mysql-5.0.51a-osx10.4-powerpc.dmg/f rom/pick
I double clicked on the icons and installed the applications.
2) I was able to connect to MySQL Server after by typing /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql. I receive this:
Welcome to the MySQL monitor. Commands end with ; or \g.
Your MySQL connection id is 9
Server version: 5.0.51a MySQL Community Server (GPL)
Type 'help;' or '\h' for help. Type '\c' to clear the buffer.
But it appears that I have limited access.
Should I create a password? Was one created?
Thoughts?
Best,
J

  • Leopard won't accept WPA password where Tiger accepted

    I've been doing all sorts of diagnostic experiments trying to figure out why I can't wirelessly connect under Leopard using WPA encryption while I was able to do so successfully under Tiger... With Leopard, encryption turned off or WEP encryption works just fine but NOT WPA and that's the encryption I want to use.. I've finally done what I believe to be a consistent and well controlled experiment which is telling me that Leopard will not accept a WPA password that is perfectly acceptable under Tiger... They changed some of the wireless interface gui's between Tiger and Leopard but there is one that appears to be identical between the two and that is the Network Setup Assistant.app that is found (under either Tiger or Leopard) at /System/Library/CoreServices... And I also have a cloned version of my two week old Tiger (10.4.9) system with all my files contained on an external firewire drive. If I boot off that Tiger system and walk through the above mentioned Assistant, when I get to the place where it asks me to enter the WPA password, it accepts that password and moves forward to the next step 100% of the time. I've tried it many times... If I then reboot under Leopard, walk through precisely the same assistant and enter precisely the same password (I've typed it many times, used copy and paste many other times to ensure no typos), instead of connecting I get (100% of the time) a message that says "Sorry, The Password you entered is invalid".... I also notice that it takes a while (maybe 10 seconds) for it to come back with that error for whatever that might be worth... The reason the "100% of the time" above is important is because when I just go to Network in system preferences and walk through that wizard while trying to set up this WPA network, I usually get simply "connection failed" but if I just keep trying eventually it always says it connected (though in reality it never does)... And it never tells me that the password is invalid but this other wizard tells me that 100 % of the time... So when it tells me it connected, I will then go try to connect to a web page and it never works... So why it sometimes tells me it connects I can't say but reality, it never does and now I'm slowly becoming convinced it is because it never accepts my WPA password, never....
    So does anyone out there know whether there is some particular format for WPA passwords??? My router is a NetGear WGU624... I've contacted NetGear about this and they are worthless... I might try them again now that I've learned that the password is NEVER being accepted but I don't hold much hope that they can help...
    Any ideas about what might be going wrong with passwords under WPA in Leopard???
    thanks... bob...

    I've been pursuing the same issue for a few days and just found a resolution (but not the root cause). (Same symptoms seen by Jason Guinn's over on http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1195706) I upgraded my PowerBook and MBP just fine but my iMac had the problems you and Jason describe.
    Dig it. This WPA2 password:
    3R3HFVNGxe845xrk
    Works for the PowerBook and MBP. But for some reason when I use that password from the iMac, I get the (broken) behavior described. Took my setup to the Genius and he reset my Airport Extreme base station and set the password to:
    testtest
    And the problematic behavior resolved. I got full bars and was able to ping and browse everything. I have since changed my password to something more secure. My advice is start with testtest and see if the problem resolves. Then experiment with some stronger WPA2 passwords that work for all your systems.
    Incidentally, I had similar issues with the wireless on my TiVO when I set it up about six months ago. For some reason their system wouldn't accept the (long) WPA2 password I was using that the time. At that time I configured the shorter one (3R3HFVNGxe845xrk) for the sake of the TiVO. It's so odd that two vendors have had bugs exercised by particular key material. So wierd.

  • Password MySQL

    Hello all,
    I have done some searching on the forums, but I don't see
    anyone with quite the same issue I'm experiencing.
    I'm having an issue, with the way the password is checked
    with the server.
    When connected to the server I can see the users passwords
    are encrypted. When the users password is normally entered, the log
    in fails.
    I.E. User1 Password123
    However, if the hash string is entered, the login is
    successful.
    I.E. User1 8fb188f854ff0f1f8200c631ff9158dd
    I hope that makes sense
    This is a working data base, from a forum a friend and me
    manage. It seems like there is a authentication step missing, but
    I'm not sure where. Can anyone help please. =-/

    Probably it has an error of programming.
    Passwords are recorded in data bases, never encrypted, but,
    yes,
    codified. ( sha, md2, md4, md5, crc, etc... hashing ).
    When an user enters a password, and this uses one of these
    processes of
    codification to be recorded in the data base, the entered
    password must
    be compared with this codified value.
    The form used to get the password, must have a routine of
    conversion for
    the used hash and, this hash is what must be verified!

    In the long run your friend will need OS installation discs. For one, they are required legally to run the OS. Second, should you need to reinstall the OS you will need them. In fact I would reinstall the OS right now because with a used machine you don't know where it's been or what's on it.

  • Is there a way to override the admin password in Tiger?

    hi,
    i have a 2004 eMac 1.25 GHz running OS X 10.4.11. however, i do not have the admin password, so i am not able to carry out admin tasks like installing new software etc. i was told that i can actually override this if i upgrade the OS to snow leopard. is that true? are there other ways to actually change the admin account or change the password?
    thanks for any help.

    Hi, do you have the 10.4.x Install Disc, you really need it.

  • Admin password not working with latest Tiger upgrade on reboot.

    Hi all,
    I have just upgraded to the latest Tiger version and on rebooting to complete the install, I am asked for my password so Tiger can access the system.
    My problem is that my password does not work, regardless of variations used.
    When I hit "cancel" I can use the computer as normal however I guess the update process is not complete.
    This very same password works with all other functions (software installs etc.)
    If I restart the computer, Tiger again asks for the password.
    Help! Thank you.

    Same thing happened to me! See my post at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1254801&#1254801. I still haven't recovered from this. I booted from the install CD and reset the password, but that didn't help. Finally I booted into single-user mode so I could look at log files. I keep seeing things like this in /var/log/system.log:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/mcxd.app/Contents/MaxOS/mcxd: MCXDinitializeDirectoryServices: Unable to open directory services -14740

  • Unable to connect to MySQL database in Dreamweaver CS3

    I have been working on this problem for hours and am getting
    very frustrated. I hope someone can help me out.
    My FTP server and MYSQL server have to use two different
    hosts.
    I will be using false information in this post but hopefully
    someone can help me out.
    FTP info
    domainname.com
    username
    password
    MySQL info
    123.servername.com
    dblogin
    dbpass
    port: 3306
    Now im sure the problem lies with the Testing Server.
    Server Model: PHP MYSQL
    Access: FTP
    FTP Host:domainname.com
    host directory: web/htdoc (this is the folder which holds ALL
    of the files which can be reached by domainname.com)
    login: username
    password: password
    url prefix:
    http://www.domainname.com
    when i try to use this information and then add a database
    using the (+) I get access denied errors.
    I have tried using 'localhost' as the server and
    '123.servername.com'
    I should mention that I am able to connect to the database
    remotely using the same information using software such as SQL
    Maestro, so I know that it isnt the database.
    can someone who has successfully done this kind of connection
    please tell me what is supposed to go where, the help documents are

    Well, at least the trace tells me that this issue is to be tracked back to the core of the MySQL JDBC driver and the Linux's implementation of JVM. It might be worth the effort to post this issue at their website/forum/issuetracker. It might also be worth the effort to tryout the newer MySQL JDBC driver 5.1, as it is written specific for JDK 6.0 (while MySQL JDBC driver 5.0 is targeted at JDK 5.0).

  • How secure is master password?

    Hi
    I have very sensitive information on my iBook. I can choose
    master password after screen saver/sleep or FileVault.
    FileVault encrypts the info which I feel uncomfortable with
    as it may make it difficult to backup.
    Can the password be removed by a someone who takes the
    computer? Is there any way around the master password.
    If the hard drive has to be erased to clear the password
    then I feel safe with password.
    I go to coffee shops alot, I am careful so far but someday I
    may slip.
    thanks in advance
    Mark
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   750 mb ram

    Hi, Mark.
    While it is possible to remove the Master Password from a Mac on which user's Home folders are protected with FileVault, doing so does not permit one to then change the passwords on FileVault-protected accounts. One would still need to know the password for the user account.
    It is important to choose good passwords. Tiger offers a password assistant that helps you choose good passwords.
    If you don't want to use FileVault, using Encrypted Disk Images is the best and easiest route to encrypting and password-protecting select data on a Mac. There are two AppleCare Knowledge Base documents you should read in relation to encrypted disk images:
    - "Mac OS X: About Encrypted Disk Images."
    - "Mac OS X: How to create a password-protected (encrypted) disk image."
    - "Disk Utility 10.5 Help: Creating a disk image."
    You can even burn an encrypted disk image to CD or DVD.
    The most important thing to remember about encrypted disk images is to never lose the password. If you lose it, you will never be able to open it. If you rely on the password being saved in your Keychain, and later format your drive, you lose the password saved in your keychain, so write it down and save it in a secure place, just in case. For added security, do not add the password of an encrypted disk image to your Keychain when this option is offered.
    Note that some of the information above is from the "Security" chapter of my book, Troubleshooting Mac® OS X.
    Good luck!

  • Leopard prompts for 802.1X username and password instead of WEP password

    hey!
    so i got leopard on friday and i haven't been able to connect to my wireless properly since.
    i have an old D-Link DI-624 (Revision B) router that i have protected with a WEP password. in tiger i never had any problems with this, but now instead of prompting me for a WEP password when i try to connect, leopard prompts me to enter username and password and below there is a dropdown entitled 802.1X with options automatic and TTLS-PAP.
    if i try to enter my WEP password as the password, the connection fails.
    i know that the issue is not the router because my girlfriend is still running tiger and has no issues.
    i ran that login and keychain update and that didn't help. i also deleted that old airport driver file that other people had mentioned for other airport issues and that didn't do anything either.
    any ideas??
    thanks!!

    I have this exact same problem.

    I am running Apche/PHP/MySQL on my machine and simple to setup. Few things requires to know. It can be done in different way. This is how I do including how to test the server(s). Host name is: "localhost". If anything is missing, please let me know.
    <b>INSTALL:</b>
    pacman -S apache
    pacman -S php
    pacman -S mysql
    <b>APACHE:</b>
    <b>1. </b>Add the following line in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf :
    LoadModule php4_module /usr/lib/apache/libphp4.so
    AddModule mod_php4.c
    AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
    <b>2.</b> Add line in /etc/host :
    127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
    <b>3.</b> Edit /etc/rc.conf :
    # Networking
    HOSTNAME="localhost"
    <b>4.</b> Run in terminal (root):
    # /etc/rc.d/httpd start
    <b>5.</b> Edit /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf (close "AddModule mod_php4.c"):
    LoadModule php4_module /usr/lib/apache/libphp4.so
    # AddModule mod_php4.c
    AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
    <b>6.</b> Add line in /etc/rc.local (to start at boot):
    /etc/rc.d/httpd start
    <b>Test</b> Apache:
    http://localhost/
    <b>PHP:</b>
    <b>1.</b> Edit /usr/etc/php.ini (open the mysql extension):
    extension=mysql.so
    Test PHP with a simple script:
    <html>
    This is a test. Say hello to Arch:
    <p>
    <body>
    <?php
    $myvar = "Hello Arch Linux";
    echo $myvar;
    ?>
    </body>
    </html>
    Save the file as "test.php" and copy to /home/httpd/html/
    <b>Test</b> PHP:
    http://localhost/test.php
    <b>MySQL:</b>
    <b>1.</b> Run in terminal:
    # /etc/rc.d/mysqld start
    <b>2.</b> Add line in /etc/rc.local (to start at boot):
    /etc/rc.d/mysqld start
    <b>Test</b> MySQL
    Run in terminal (don't enter any password):
    # mysql -p
    <b>Note:</b> Change the /var/lib/mysql directory to user "mysql" if not getting MySQL to run.
