Password protection in Dreamweaver?

Is a person able to password-protect his website with the tools available in Dreamweaver? I'd like to have a field on my index page where a person must input a password to proceed. Even better would be to have the entire website password-protected - preventing a person from getting a link within the website and being able to freely browse beyond the index page (but I'll take what I can get).
Thanks!

Follow the instructions shown in the screenshot in the Server Behaviors tab:
"To use dynamic data on this page:
1. Create a site for this file (has been done-hence the tick)
2. Choose a document type
3. Set up the site's testing server"
Note the testing server will only work on your local machine.
To get login working on your remote site, you'll have to set up the Remote Site in a similar manner.
As a more rudimentary alternative approach, you can place the pages you want to protect in a password protected directory on the server and let the server handle the username/password via a dialogue box which will appear when you try to browse to a protected page.

  • Password Protection Dreamweaver

    Hi Everyone,
I hope some one can answer this simple question I have .
I am trying to add a Login Password protected page or link to my website. Does
anyone know an EASY way of doing this?
What I am really trying to do is. I have different work sample of art for certain clients.
I want them to go to my website to only view  the art work sample that I give them
a password to. Does that make sense? So I am the client I got to the website
to view the designers portolio and there are 3 portfolios. I only can view #2 portfolio
since I was given the password and user name to it.
    Is that possible?
I really hope someone can make my day
    Thank you
    Angel

The easiest way would be to password protect the folder using your host control panel. This works well if you don't have too many client folders to manage.

  • Copy and paste Java script for password protecting a page?

I need to password protect one page which I want to call my LOGIN page on a site I'm making in Dreamweaver CS5.5.  Unfortunately I know that the hosting company I'm using does not have the ability to allow me password a single directory on the server end to accomplish this (I know STRANGE)   .... SO
I found some code online - java script that I can just copy and paste into the <head> section of my page.  This might be a silly question but is this a 'safe' way to do this?    (I don't need anything fancy and the people whom will be accessing this page will all have the SAME password, so I don't need a registration form or anything fancier...)
    Any thoughts?

Ugg I totally knew you would all say that (because I already knew that would offer me the easiest solution), change hosts and now I'm embarrassed to say that YES I am paying for the hosting; BUT, I have to explain that I'm with this hosting company because way back when I started that site I needed something super user friendly because I was just learning.  Now I have learned more and have started to use Dreamweaver.  I just stayed with the same hosting and will use FTP to upload my new more updated site.  In the company's defense even though they do offer a way to FTP a site up, their main objective (I think) is to have a really easy way for people to get a site up without knowing anything about code or css or anything; and they operate under the assumption that MOST of their customers will be using their super easy software and not use FTP.  That is why I think they are limited to what they offer, at least that is my take on it.  My more recent sites do not use this company as I have tried to learn and 'move up'.
Anyway I guess if I don't want to switch hosting I still have the same problem.  Is it really that difficult to make something that has just one use ID and password which would be the same thing for every person?  Might be a great learning experience for me?
Yep it might be time for me to switch hosting....  sigh.  What to do.....

  • Password protecting a webpage.

I'd like to password protect one page on my website. How do I do that?

    Hi Jennifer,
in addition to all these good recommendations: The easiest way - in my opinion - to protect the recommended website(s) with a password is to ask your provider for this possibility. I can show you here the menu of my German host (Passwortschutz > Password protection):
Here an example of one of my websites, where I used my providers service. You can see what happens if you don't know the required details:
http://dala-laegret1963.de/AccBlocked/AccBlocked.php. There only these users who know the passwords can enter this website.
As you can see I didn't struggle to write the ".htaccess" file of myself, I used the provider's (ISP) service. The advantage is, that the two files (.htaccess and .htpasswd) are created simultaneously and systemconform.  You will find this offer, I am sure, at your provider's website.
Dreamweaver has so too a very easy server-side authentication behaviors built-in... have you looked at those? (Server Behaviors --> Authenticate Users)

  • Password protecting test site

Hi I wanted to password protect a test site I have been making to show to selected people. I found this tutorial using PHP which seems pretty straightforward.
    http://www.zubrag.com/scripts/password-protect.php
The one problem is it says It will show you protection code to include into your pages. "Sample protection code would look like this (yours will be different): <?php include("/home/users/htdocs/security/password_protect.php"); ?>
Add that line of code to each php page you would like to protect at the very beginning of the page source (it must be the first line)." Now the problem is that my page is html based, can I add a token PHP page to my index page that just has that bit of code in to password protect it and how would I add the PHP page?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi
Try the htaccess generator for dreamweaver extension - http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=extensionDetail&extid=1698154.
Check with your server provider to ascertain you type of server you are using as this requires Apache, but similar code is available for IIS.
The htaccess file is a simple file that you upload to your server and will 'point' to the folder you wish to protect.

  • Using password protection

    I am novice level.
I have a web site built with Dreamweaver CS3 and have
family-related pages with pix of the family. I want to make pages
within the "family" group of pages available only to selected

I need a simple way to make all of the "family"-related pages

  • How to Password Protect  a Page of Your Mobile App

I am trying to password protect few pages of my mobile app. I am building the app using Jquery Mobile in Dreamweaver for IOS and Android. What is the best way to password protect a page? I am not looking to create a login page..I just want to create few password protected pages that require just one password. Is there a way to do it in Dreamweaver?
    Thank you

AFAIK, you cannot password protect one section of a jQuery Mobile page.  It's either all protected or it's not protected.

  • Password protected part of site for streaming?

    Hello,
I would like to make a part of my site password protected so people can look at my flash videos streaming.
I have dreamweaver MX and macromedia contribute 3. I also have adobe flash CS4. Which one should I use?
Would these be the same programs to set up the streaming?
    Thanks,
    Kidd in paris

If you are only using a very limited number of different passwords, you can password protect a folder by using an htaccess file. For more info:
    http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/howto/htaccess.html
Or Google "htaccess file" for more info.
If there are lots of passwords or the user is generating their own passwords, you'll more likely need to use a server side solution. If a database of passwords is needed, MySQL, using PHP to interface with the Web page. For more info:
    http://www.totallyphp.co.uk/scripts/password_protect_a_page.htm
Lots more info on the net. Google "PHP password protect"
Neither of the programs you mentioned will do this automagically. But any good html editor, even NotePad++ can be used to set up the scripts.
"set up the streaming"... what do you mean by that? Are you talking true, live video streaming? or just playing back video files using progressive download?
If true streaming... do you really know what that involves? Here is a good source for streaming info, even if you do not use their service, there is a lot of good info on the site.... just dig around. It will help give you a much better understanding of streaming video:

  • How can I create a password protected web page?

Good Morning Folks and Happy 4th. I want to put a

That's because you were led astray. The "Password Protect 6"
    DW
Extension to which Murray was referring is at
    valleywebdesigns.com
    rather than at divaHTML.com:

  • How do I create a password protected page?

    Hi,
I need to create a password protected page and need help!
    Anyone out there . . .
    Thanks,
    Manda

    Depends on web server.
But some things to look for are .htaccess if using *NIX.
Otherwise a database and your Dreamweaver help files will
    suffice.

  • Easiest way to password protect a page

What it the easiest way to password protect a webpage?

The most secure is to use a Server-Side method of User
    Authentication.
My guess is that server-side methods may be a bit beyond your
    current
skill set, given the open-ended nature of your question. The
    good news
though is there are other, simpler ways to limit access to a
    folder to
    authorized users.
If it okay that all authorized users have the very same
    username/password, then:
    1) Check your CPanel, or similar, at your host (or contact
    your host) -
they may offer an option to password protect a folder. This
    offers a
    very secure solution.
    2) If (1) is not available, or you want to offer a more
    user-friendly
login-box AND you do not need bullet-proof security, you may
    want to
check my DW Extension: Password Protect 6 at
    http://valleywebdesigns.com/vwd_passprotect6.asp
It can also be used to protect individual pages, unlike the
    (1) method
    above.

  • Create password protected website

    Hello there,
Does anyone know how I may be able to create a password
protected website in Dreamweaver, Flash, or Fireworks? I have
already built the website and it is live. But the owner would like
a password protected page so their employees can access PDFs etc.
Any feedback, advice or webpage tutorials would be awesome help.
    Thanks so much.

    > I'd appreciate any feedback.
You can do this using server scripting - ASP/ASP.Net/PHP/CF
    for example.
The trick is to know a) which are supported by your host, and
    b) which are
    supported by your brain....

  • Password protected directory

I run a community website with a members area protected by a .htpasswd file. It has always worked fine. If you cancel the password request, diverts to an 'error' page (401 divert) as specified within the .htaccess file in the protected directory.
If you then try to access the protected directory / members area again, Firefox lets you in and protected information is visible.
This doesnot happen in IE8, or Chrome. It worked fine in FF3, I never tested it in FF4 but it is definitely broken in FF5. Appears to be a bug?

    >I am setting up a password protected area of a website.
How do you set up another directory in Dreamweaver?
In the site panel, just select the root folder, right click
    and select New Folder.
    >Do I need to store all my 'password protected' files in a
completely new folder from my existing website folder?
Files you want to protect should go into a sub folder within
    your defined site.
    > Is the process the same as setting up a new website in
    Dreamweaver?
No, you don't need to setup a new site. Just create a
specific folder within the site for storing protected
    documents.

  • Logging into password protected webpage

I downloaded Safari 3.2.3 for windows to check on a new site design that I'm working on. The site is hosted on an IIS7 Windows server and is password protected.
In Safari I get the username / password box, yet no matter how many times I enter the correct credentials it just keeps saying incorrect login or password.
The IIS login works fine in Firefox and IE. I've set IIS to accept plain text as well as the standard Windows integrated authenticated, but Safari still refuses to log in.
