Password recovery, Local Director 417

Greetings.
I am looking to remove the login password from a Local Director 417. I have found directions for "Local Director Password Recovery", but they require a floppy drive. The 417 does not have a floppy drive.
What would be the proper procedure for this?
Thanks,
- Tony

Tony,
Looking at some internal cases on the 417's, since there seems to be no docs on Passwd recovery I found that there is no passwd recovery for the 417's. In all cases where customers lost passwds a replacement 417 was needed to be RMA'd from Cisco.
Hope this helps you,
Don

• Local director 417 replacement? CSS 11501 software 8.20

Hi,
i would like to ask if CSS 11501 (software 8.20) is still the replacement hardware for local director 417? currently we use this local director to load balance http and https traffic using a flat network implementation meaning virtual IP is in the same netwoork as the physical server. will CSS 11501 can support this implementation?
Current Local Director setup example
web server virtual IP 10.10.10.1
real server ip 1 10.10.10.2
real server ip 2 10.10.10.3
rgds,
mc.malinao

local director is well before my time, so I can't comment on those and their official replacement.
I'd say you're better off going straight to ACE modules or appliances.
They're the latest generation of Cisco's load balancers.
We're very happy w/ our ACE-20 modules.

• Local Director 417 in cluster situation

Hi,
I have a LD 417 to forward packets to 2 servers (A&B running redhat cluster suite). The IP address of server A and B are 10.10.10.1 and 10.10.10.2 respectively. The virtual ip for server A and B is 10.10.10.3.
Since the 2 servers are clusters, only 1 server will be running a service at a time. The service runs at port 5000.
My questions:
1. LD 417 will need to route packets to the server which is running the service. How does LD 417 determines that the service is running at server A instead of B ? Is there any command such as keepalive ? what mechanism does LD 417 use ?
2. If I set the bind as follow:
bind 10.10.10.3:5000:0:tcp 10.10.10.3:5000:0:tcp
How can I divert all other packets going to vip 10.10.10.3 to another server (10.10.10.11) ?
Thanks for the help ?

the LD uses inband health monitoring.
It forwards client traffic to server and if the LD does not see a response from the server, it consider it as dead [there are thresholds associated with this].
localdirector(config)# threshold ?
usage: threshold
There is also probes that can be generated but it is limited to dns and http.
localdirector(config)# pro?
probe
probeconfig
probedns
probehttp
If you want to redirect other traffic to another address, you first need to create a vserver to catch this traffic, a real server to receive the traffic an d then bind the 2 togethers.
Gilles.

• Blackberry ID - forgot password, forgot password recovery info, exceeded login attempts, why can't BB send me email to reset password.

THE ISSUES ARE:
1. FORGOT PASSWORD
2. FORGOT PASSWORD RECOVERY INFO
3. EXCEEDED ATTEMPTS TO LOGIN
I HAVE READ OTHER PEOPLES FORUM PROBLEMS THAT ARE THE SAME. WHEN I FOLLOWED LINKS THAT SUPPORT GAVE THERE IS NO SOLUTION TO ACTUALLY FIX THE PROBLEM.
What I need is simply this: Blackberry to send me a RESET PASSWORD link to the email I have registered with Blackberry WITHOUT HAVING TO PROVIDE PASSWORD RECOVERY INFO. This will enable me to bypass unknown recovery password info and access my Blackberry ID account.
Why haven't I been able to find a solution to fix the problem?
BECAUSE IT DOESN'T APPEAR TO EXIST........ ANYWHERE..... EVEN ON YOUTUBE BLACKBERRY ARE RUNNING AN OUT OF DATE SOLUTION CENTRE.
When looked online to Blackberry youtube video it shows a solution that doesn't exist! WHY? BECAUSE IT WAS UPLOADED IN 2011. DUH. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvdRb4qNG1M
If I can't remember my password or recovery password info there is NO other option available that will send me a reset password via email so I can keep my current BB ID.
KB34776 - does not apply because you HAVE TO BE ABLE TO REMEMBER YOUR RECOVERY PASSWORD!
CHECKED THIS OUT...
Workaround
If the BlackBerry ID password has been forgotten but the answer to the password recovery question is known, select Forgot Password on the smartphone and answer the recovery question to generate a password reset email. Follow KB28685 to complete this process.
If the BlackBerry smartphone user knows the email address used for the BlackBerry ID login but is unable to remember the associated password then it is possible to reset the password using the steps below:
Note: If the BlackBerry ID account is not confirmed, it is necessary to provide the answer to the password recovery question as part of the web based password reset flow.
To see if a BlackBerry ID account is confirmed, log in to the BlackBerry ID account, select Account Details and locate the Email Status field. For instructions on confirming the BlackBerry ID account follow KB34137.
Browse to the following URL using a desktop browser, the BlackBerry Browser on the BlackBerry smartphone, or the Browser on the BlackBerry PlayBook: http://blackberryid.blackberry.com/bbid/recoverpassword
Enter the BlackBerry ID Username (email address) and the CAPTCHA characters, then clickSubmit.
Enter the Answer to the Password Recovery Question, then click OK.
Note: Answering the recovery question is only required if the BlackBerry ID account is not confirmed.
A confirmation message will be displayed A password reset email has been sent to [email protected], at which point, a reset email will be delivered to the associated email address inbox.
Log in to the email account associated to the BlackBerry ID using the desktop browser, BlackBerry Browser on the smartphone, or the Browser on the BlackBerry PlayBook.
Locate the password reset email and select the Change your BlackBerry ID password link.
Note: The BlackBerry ID reset email will come from [email protected]. If the email is not found in the inbox, check the mailbox's Spam or Junk folder.
When the password reset page loads, enter the Answer to the Password Recovery Question, enter the New Password, Confirm Password, then click Submit.
A confirmation message will display once the changes have been saved successfully.
Moving forward use the newly created password whenever logging into BlackBerry ID.
If the BlackBerry smartphone user does not know the email or password that was used for the BlackBerry ID, the BlackBerry ID will be locked out after 10 unsuccessful login attempts. See KB24157 for BlackBerry ID lockout behavior.
THEN CHECKED KB24157......
Overview
BlackBerry ID is the master key to BlackBerry smartphone products, sites, services and applications, including BlackBerry Protect and the BlackBerry App World storefront.
To prevent unauthorized access to the account, the BlackBerry ID will become locked out after a number of failed attempts. See the information below for an outline on the expected behavior:
Local Authentication Lockout
On BlackBerry PlayBook and BlackBerry smartphones if the user enters their BBID password incorrectly 10 times on the BBID sign in screen, verify password screen, or BBID Edit screens, they are LOCKED OUT of all the following functions on that BlackBerry device for 15 minutes:
Authenticating with their BlackBerry ID on the sign in screen
Authenticating with their BlackBerry ID on the verify password screen
Authenticating with their BlackBerry ID on the BBID edit screens
Note: The user can still log in on the web or any other devices associated with their BlackBerry ID. They are only locked out on the device where the 10 incorrect attempts occurred. On the locked out device, after 15 minutes, they get 1 try to provide the correct password on the sign in and/or verify password screens. If they fail to enter the correct password, they are locked out for an additional 15 minutes on that device.
Account Server Lockout
Users have total of 10 attempts to enter their password correctly against the BlackBerry ID Account Server.
The scenarios that increment the Account Server lockout counter are as follows:
Providing an incorrect password anywhere on the BlackBerry ID web portal (blackberry.com/blackberryid)
Providing an incorrect password within the BlackBerry ID Edit feature on any BlackBerry device or BlackBerry PlayBook
Note: if a user provides an incorrect password 5 times on the BlackBerry ID web portal (blackberry.com/blackberryid), and then 5 more times on the BlackBerry ID Edit feature on their BlackBerry PlayBook, the cumulative number of failed attempts is 10. Once the user has made 10 incorrect attempts to provide their password against the Account Server, they are locked out of the Account Server PERMANENTLY until they reset their password.
See KB26361 for information to reset a BlackBerry ID password
Note: The Account Server Lockout does NOT prevent the user from local authenticating on devices (the user can still authenticate on the sign in and verify password screens on their BlackBerry devices).
Forgot Password Lockout
If the user answers their Security Question incorrectly 10 times, they are locked out for 15 minutes of Forgot Password functionality on all interfaces such as:
BlackBerry website (blackberry.com/blackberryid)
BlackBerry PlayBook
BlackBerry smartphone
Note: After 15 minutes, they get 1 try, and if they fail to answer the question correctly, they are locked out for an additional 15 minutes.
THAT DIDN'T WORK SO NOW ITS BACK TO..... KB26361

A confirmation message will display You have changed your password.
Click OK.
If the password for a BlackBerry ID account has been forgotten and the login is unsuccessful, use the following process to reset the password.
Note: If the BlackBerry ID account is not confirmed, it is necessary to provide the answer to the password recovery question as part of the web based password reset flow. To see if a BlackBerry ID account is confirmed, login to the BlackBerry ID account, select Account Details and locate the Email Status field. For instructions on confirming the BlackBerry ID account follow KB34137.
To generate a password reset email, complete the following:
Browse to the following URL using a desktop browser, the Browser on the BlackBerry smartphone or the Browser on the BlackBerry PlayBook: http://blackberryid.blackberry.com/bbid/recoverpassword
Enter the BlackBerry ID Username (email address) and the CAPTCHA characters, then clickSubmit.
Enter the Answer to the Password Recovery Question, then click OK. (Answering the recovery question is only required if the BlackBerry ID account is not confirmed)
A confirmation message will be displayed A password reset email has been sent to [email protected] , at which point, a reset email will be delivered to the associated email address inbox.
Login to the email account associated to the BlackBerry ID using the desktop browser, BlackBerry Browser on the BlackBerry smartphone or the browser on the BlackBerry PlayBook.
Locate the password reset email and select the Change your BlackBerry ID password link.
Note: The BlackBerry ID reset email will come from [email protected] If the email is not found in the inbox, check the Spam or Junk folder.
When the password reset page loads, enter the Answer to the Password Recovery Question, enter the New Password, Confirm Password, then click Submit.
Note: Answering the recovery question is only required if the BlackBerry ID account is not confirmed.
A confirmation message will display once the changes have been saved successfully.
Moving forward use the newly created password whenever logging into BlackBerry ID.
Note: If the BlackBerry ID email address is a BlackBerry mail address (e.g. <username>@tmo.blackberry.net), the BlackBerry ID password reset email will not be received on the BlackBerry smartphone. Since the BlackBerry mail address is not accessible from a computer, the steps outlined in KB28111 will need to be performed.
IT ALL LEADS BACK TO THE SAME UNHELPFUL NON-SOLUTION OF USE THE PASSWORD RECOVERY QUESTION....
Can the tech department of Blackberry please sort out this ridiculous unhelpful system by sending customers a direct email if password is forgotten so they can reset without having to go through the above without finding a solution.
THANK YOU.

But do please keep in mind that security is a 2-way street...the human element play an equal part in that security, and you have failed at that in this situation, yet desire for the automated methods to still recover for you. Such just isn't possible, because your failure has exceeded the capabilities of the automated methods.
Hence, you likely need human intervention from an actual BB representative, which is not available in this forum (as discussed in the first link I gave you above). But, the methods to attempt to seek human intervention are posted within the 2nd link I gave you.

• How do i bypass the windows password without password recovery disk

My sister has passed away & Ive been copying her pictures off of her laptop for the family & I havent finished. It logged off last night & now its asking for password & no one knows the password.. Im almost positive there is a way to go around this password but I cant seem to figure it out on my own! Please Help ASAP THANX

Here are some common methods.

Method 1: Reset Windows 7, Vista, XP Password Via Another Administrator Account

If you have another user account with admin privileges, including built-in accounts in Windows 7/Vista/XP, you can easily bypass other accounts' password using Lusrmgr.msc and Command Line.

1. Log on Windows 7/Vista/XP with your administrator account. Click on Start, type lusrmgr.msc in the Search box(Win7/Vista) or Run box(Win7/Vista/XP) and click OK.
2. When the Local users and Groups dialog appears, open the Users folder. Right-click your user account and select "set password", type a new password and click OK.

Method 2: Reset WIndows 7/Vista/XP password with Windows password reset disk
Here is the steps to reset Windows password with password reset disk, bypassing Windows Vista/XP password is the same as this:

Step 1: Login Windows with a incorrect password, it will show you a link "Reset Password.." under the password box.
Step 2: Insert your password reset disk, click the link, When a password reset wizard appears, click Next.
Step 3: Choose the drive name from the pull-down list, click Next.
Step 4: Type a new password in the new password box, and type it again to confirm it. Click Next→Finish. Then you can login Windows again with the new password.

Method 3: Reset Windows password with Windows password recovery program

In this method, you need to load a recovery program on another computer, then burn it to a CD/USB. Boot your locked computer from CD/USB and reset WIndows password offline. This is a universal password reset method.

• 6509 - 720 Supervisor Module Failure after Password Recovery

Hi,
I attempted to perform a password recovery on a 6509 with dual WS-SUP720-3B modules running 12.2(33)SXI2A.
After changing the configuration register to 0x2142 and booting, I am getting a major error on the supervisor modules. I've changed the configuration register back to 0x2102 and am still getting the same error on both supervisor modules. I've also tried it with one module removed and one module installed.
I have about 30 seconds in where I can run commands before I get booted to rommon.
Any thoughts?

To answer your question:
A Is there any different procedure to install line modules in supervisor slots?
>>No there are no special configuration you need to do when inserting a line card in slots that normally would be for supervisor.
B Switch is having previously removed linecard (i.e, fastethernet module)in running configuration. Will it create any system crash?
>>No, it will not cause the switch to crash, when you see the configuration of a line card even after it was removed is quite normal, it's cold module provisionsing, you would not want to keep putting in a configuration for any line card after just resetaing them do you?

• Password recovery on Cisco AP 1232

Hi all.
I have a Cisco 1232 AP at a remote location. It was configured by somebody no longer with the company and I have no passwords for it, no do I have a back up config.
It is using local authenticaiton.
Is there a way to do a password recovery without losing the current configuration?

Check this out:

• Password recovery on CallManager server

Hi,
I have some CallManager server and I don't know admin password. I have one but it is not taht password.
Can you tell me how can I do password recovery on CallManager server?
Thanks,
Vlaho

To change the password phrase
=========================
You can use Adminutility tool to reset the Private password phrase, this tool only runs on
the Publisher and needs to be done after hours since it stops services; here is the path
and the steps to run it.
C:\ProgramFiles\Cisco\Bin\adminutility.exe
Log into the utility as Administrator and select the very top checkbox to select all
accounts. Then go to Options and Set new password
It will ask you for the password phrase, and the tool will run, everything keeps working
fine after the tool finishes.
To Change DC Directory Password:
================================
Please follow the instructions in the following document (attached for your reference):
How to Change the DC Directory Password
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps556/products_configuration_
example09186a00800942be.shtml
To Change CCM Administrator:
============================
>From the Cisco CallManager,
1. Go to Start > Run; type CCMPWDChanger and press enter.
2. Enter DC Manager Password
3. Select CCMAdministrator for Userid and password.
To Change CCM Services Password:
================================
Please follow the following steps to reset the passwords on all servers in the cluster:
Step 1: Log on as the local Administrator on the Publisher.
Step 2: Using Explore, browse to C:\Program Files\Cisco\Bin and launch AdminUtility.exe.
Step 3: Within the User Password field, input the local Administrator password and click
OK.
Step 4: Select the check-box for at the top of the tree which should correlate to the
DNSname of the Publisher.
Step 5: Select Options from the menu, and Set New Password.
Step 6: Input your 1 ? 15 character alphanumeric password phrase that will be used to
generate the complex passwords for each local account and service. Re-enter the string
within the next field for verification and click OK.
Step 7: Highlight all systems within the cluster and click Update Server Password. You
will receive a warning message informing you that this will take down all systems with the
cluster and could take a significant amount of time. Click OK.
Step 8: When completed, for each system you will see that the Update was successful. Click
EXIT once all systems within the cluster have successfully updated.
Step 9: Close the AdminUtility window.
To Change Windows Administrator Password:
=========================================
Please make sure that the Local Administrator password is SAME on all servers in the
cluster.
To change the password, perform the following steps:
1. Right click My Computer.
2. Select Manage.
3. Go to Local Users and Groups.
4. Go to Users.
5. Right click Administrator.
6. Select Set Password.
7. Type in the password and confirm.

• Cisco ACS 4.x Password Recovery

I inherited a ACS server, but I don't have the admin password. Does anyone know of a password recovery technique ?

If it is running acs ver 4.0 on windows, then it is not possible. With ACS v4.0 all the configurations have been shifted from registry to a database file thus increasing the security in ACS. So as of now there is no way to recover the lost Admin password in ACS v4.0, cause no setting is in registry, all settings are in SQL database.
So need to reimage it ...
If it is acs windows 3.3.4 or below then you need to make registry change,
login to ACS machine as administrator..
Go to start ===> run ===> regedit
Click on HKEYLOCAL machine ===> software ===> cisco
===>CiscoAAAv3.2===>CSAdmin===> and delete all administrative users defined by
right clicking into the administraor folder.
Now login locally to ACS and it should not prompt you for password.
For a best practice make sure that you have Allow automatic login is checked
This will not prompt you for password if you are logging in locally from ACS mahcine.
If it is appliance then you need to use recovery cd to reset admin password.
Regards,
~JG

• Local Director 416 Seamless Real Changes

Say I have a Virtual:443 with two reals web01:6443 and web02:6443. Now I want to add in reals web03:6443 and web046443 and remove web01:6443 and web02:6443. But I don't want to disrupt any conversations that may already be in progress to one of those servers. How do I migrate to the new without disturbing the connections on the old but not allow any new connections to be made to the old? Thanks.

There is a well known problem of keeping a session bound to one physical real server after the session is setup on HTTP (open) transport and later moved to HTTPS (secure) transport protocol. In this case, the HTTP redirection should be setup at the application level. The server can send a redirect (either a 302 or an HREF embedded in the actual web page itself) to HTTP, so no load balancing takes place at the Local Director. Another possible solution would be to switch to HTTPS sooner, and perform the session opening encrypted. This is preferred also for encrypting the login username and password. If you keep the whole session running via HTTPS, the generic sticky can ensure that the same server will be used for a client. The second solution and configuration is described in this document. The HTTP traffic is limited to first contact with the site (the client can type simple site name to address bar). When reaching Local Director, the browser receives a 302 redirect message with the URL configured, including the HTTPS tag, so there is the complete name of the server to reach. The session (on application level) is built from the beginning with the secure server (the real servers do not handle HTTP at all). Tthe session continues with the unique server name, so it is always reaching the same.

• Does password recovery procedure on CM allow you into GUI?

I have a customer with 3 WAAS appliances and a CM running WAAS 4.1.3a. The customer has lost their network engineer and they do not have the admin passwords. I can telnet to the CLI of all devices but I am trying to access the CM GUI and don't get privileged access with my account. The CM has 2 accounts showing in the config, the admin account and another which is specific to this customer. Both have privilege 15 but I don't know the password to either. The primary authentication mechanisms for login and configuration are set to tacacs with the secondary set to local. I am able to login to the command line using a support account that we have the password for so it appears that tacacs is working but if I use this account on the GUI it logs me in but does not give me privileged access to the GUI. I think I read somewhere that the GUI uses a different authentication mechanism and to get privileged access to the GUI the account has to be created within the GUI. Is that right?
Unfortunately I don't have access to the tacacs server and we don't look after it so I can't just change the admin password in the tacacs server.
With the support account I have on the CLI, when I try to change the admin account password it says:
waas-cm(config)#username admin passwd
Warning: User configuration performed via CLI may be overwritten
by the central manager. Please use the central manager to configure
user accounts.
New WAAS password:
If I try to login to the GUI using the new password I set then it doesn't work but I am not sure if that is because it is trying to use tacacs to authenticate the GUI or because the CM over-wrote it.
I found the password recovery/change procedure but I wasn't sure if this would help me get into the GUI or just the cli. If I reload the box and follow the procedure to change the admin password then will this change the password used by the GUI? Should I be concentrating on the CM or focussing on the tacacs server which isn't in this site and which I don't look after? If I change the admin password using the recovery procedure and then remove the tacacs config then will I be able to get into the GUI using the new admin password? Any other suggestions of what I can do?
Thanks
Tim

Tim,
Since you have CLI access to the CM, why not telnet/ssh to the CM remove the TACACS configuration temporarily so users aren't check against TACACS when you try to login to the CM GUI. Then since you don't know the admin password you could change it via the CLI command you previously used, and then try to login to the CM GUI with that admin account.
Once you have the known admin account you can reconfigure your TACACS configuration as it was before.
Now I suspect the reason you were able to login to the CM GUI with the support account, but you had no privileges was because this support user or the group in TACACS it belongs to was not defined in the CM GUI under Admin -> AAA -> Users. Since the TACACS server in this case does the authentication, but the authorization to view certain pages within the CM GUI is done on the CM itself. So, it is required to have the user or the group defined in the CM GUI with the appropriate role(s) associated to that object.
Once you define this support user account within the CM GUI it too should have access when TACACS is enabled. Here are the steps I would take:
Log into your CM via SSH/Telent with your TACACS user
credentials. Once in here do the following:
NC-WAAS-CM(config)#no authentication fail-over server-unreachable
NC-WAAS-CM(config)#authentication login local enable primary
NC-WAAS-CM(config)#authentication login tacacs enable secondary
Log into the CM GUI with the local WAE credentials (admin, ).
Go to Admin -> AAA -> Users -> Add a user -> Specify the support username
you added to your TACACS server and click Submit (no need to change any other
fields) -> Select Role Management -> Assign this user the admin role (or
whichever custom role(s) you have defined) and click submit.
Back on the CLI:
NC-WAAS-CM(config)#authentication login local enable secondary
NC-WAAS-CM(config)#authentication login tacacs enable primary
NC-WAAS-CM(config)#authentication fail-over server-unreachable
Log out of the CM GUI, and try to log back in with your TACACS credentials.
Here is the configuration guide section on user accounts and groups which may help explain in more detail.

• Password Recovery for Windows XP Pro

I have recently found a Dell computer in my house that is in good working condition. After setting the computer up, I asked the original owner what the administrator password to the login was. Sadly, the owner doesn't remember the password. I have tried logging in through safe mode and pressing ctrl+alt+del twice and trying to log in then. These tries didn't work, and I have been scavenging around for any password recovery tool I could use. On my recent trip to Best Buy, I informed one of the employees about the problem I had. To solve it, he said to restart the computer and while it was loading, continually press the F8 key, which should log me in as Administrator and could reset the password from there. I have tried this, but failed, most likely not sure if I did it right.

I hope this doesn't come off as mean/offensive, but if you don't have a higher level of computer knowledge, doing an account password reset isn't the easiest thing in the world.
Your local Geek Squad, or any repair shop, should be able to remove the password for you for a fee(call around to see what it is, when I was in store it was $29.99).
There are password removal tools out there, but it requires downloading a disk image, burning it, and getting the computer to boot off the disk into a command prompt environment. It's not "hard" but if you don't know what you're getting into, it's easy to mess things up.
If you like my post, or solution to your issue/question, go ahead and click on the little star by my name and/or accept the post as the Solution. It makes me happy.
I'm NOT an employee of Best Buy, or Geek Squad, though I did work as an Agent for a year 5 years ago. None of my posts are to be taken as the official stance that Best Buy will take on your situation. My advice is just that, advice.
Unfortunately, that's the bad luck of any electronic, there's going to be bad Apples... wait that's a horrible pun.

My safari keeps crashing on me, and when it does it always says it was because of some Bat! Password Recovery Plugin. How can I fix this and stop t from happening?

You’ve been infected with the “Flashback” malware. See this Apple support document:
About Flashback malware
Back up all data, if you haven't already done so.
Select  ▹ Software Update to install the latest Java update (if Java is already installed) or the Flashback malware removal tool (if Java is not installed under Lion), as well as any other available updates. Installing either of those items should clear the infection in most cases. No other action is required on your part. You must update to the latest version of Mac OS X 10.6 or 10.7 before you can install the Java update.
Change every Internet password you have, starting with banking passwords. Check all financial accounts for unauthorized transactions. Do this after you’ve secured your system, not before.
