Password Sync from Active Directory Locking Accounts

Hello,
We recently set up Active Directory as a resource and are synching passwords. We are using IDM 7.1.1.11. We are noticing that when actions in IDM push the password out to AD, and they sync comes back to IDM, the sync workflow is locking up the account, before the original IDM action completes. For example, when an admin resets a users password, they see several error messages stating that the account is locked by the account that authenticates through the password sync utility. They also see succesful password reset messages, but I would like it if they didn't see errors saying the account is locked. We are using a direct connection between the Password Sync util and IDM. Has anyone ran into this? Any advice on overcoming it?
Thanks.
Jim

I opened a support case with Sun about this issue, and they recommended logging a trace file for com.waveset.adapter.ActiveDirectoryActiveSyncAdapter. While the tracefile does not seem to contain any useful information, the simple fact that there is tracing going on for it now seems to be easing the situation. In my test environment I saw occurrences of this locking problem drop by 90-95% simply by turning the tracing on. I started tracing in production in the hopes that it will at least lessen the occurances of this.
Sounds like we are taking the same approach Raj, the problem I've been having with it is getting it to happen will I'm debugging our reset password workflow. I want to make sure I add the locking check in the right place, so I was attempting to determine which area to check for it.
I'll be sure to keep the thread updated if anything changes on our end.

i have tried to reconfig and reinstall the connector but still the same issue.

    Don't think so.
Reconcile will just find accounts that are out of sync (that is, that exist on one system but not the other). It doesn't update account attributes.
ActiveSync can identify and process changed records, but the password itself is hashed, so unless you can use the hashed password directly (and IDM can't) then you just would get "garbage" data via the sync.
I think you do need to use one of the PasswordSync tools for this, because they intercept the password change process before the password is hashed, allowing you to apply the changes in multiple locations.

  • Db10g external password authentication from Active Directory via OID

    HI ALL
    - i have a synchronization AD-to-OID (OAS 10.1.2 (Infra)cold failover cluster, 2 nodes)
    - i have external authorization of AD users via SSO (external authorization plug-in)
    - i have RAC DB(10.1.0.3, 2 nodes) enterprise authorization of OID native users who have their passwords in OID (global schema)
    - but i cann't configure DB autorization of AD-to-OID synchronized users who don't have their passwords in OID
    error:
ORA-28274: No ORACLE password attribute corresponding to user nickname exists.
i.e. those users are not recognized as users with external passwords.
    Any ideas, please ...

I've gone through that thread a few times already, but it only covers infrastructure based on Sun JDS, which seems to pose less problems than Active Directory. Many others refer only to hand-compiled OpenLDAP installations which are quite different to configure... sigh
I have, however, managed to get the base system running - meaning I can see Solaris ask LDAP for locally unknown user and group names - but all I get back is Unknown Object.
Here's a snoop dump of one of the failed requests, in hope someone here can shed some light on the problem:
request from my server to the LDAP box:
    LDAP: [Base Object]
    LDAP: ou=people,OU=Austria,DC=AT,DC=OurADdomain,DC=com
    LDAP: [Scope]
    LDAP: wholeSubtree
    LDAP: Equality Match *[3]
    LDAP: [Attr Descr]
    LDAP: objectClass
    LDAP: [Value]
    LDAP: posixAccount
    LDAP: *[3]
    LDAP: [OctetString]
    LDAP: uid
    LDAP: [OctetString]
    LDAP: myusername
    reply from the LDAP server:
    LDAP: [Error Message]
    LDAP: 0000208D: NameErr: DSID-031001CD
    LDAP: , problem 2001 (NO_OBJECT), data
    a) our Active Directory 2003 R2 with the default Unix schema does not seem to implement the objectClass=posixAccount attribute, although the documentation on MSDN suggests that attribute should be there. I'm atm about to get some MS guy to solve this..
    b) The base object DN seems to always get prefixed with ou=people - why? I didn't enter that field with ldapclient, and that orgunit does not exist in AD per default. How can I prevent Solaris from modifying my search path in that way? I think this is one of the reasons why I keep getting no-object-errors.
    c) Our AD doesn't seem to offer a way to create/modify the unix object classes shadowExpire, shadowFlag and others for password management. Are those strictly necessary - i.e. will I run into new problems with those if I managed to solve a) and b)?

--I think password from AD not put in to activeSync.
    --Why?
You cannot change the user's password from the activeSync RA. The password is encrypted in Active Directory and you can't decrypt it.
You can read the Idm Resources Reference - Active Directory. There's a table with all the supported fields; the userPassword field is write-only.
If you want to take the AD password and send it to IDM, you want to use Password Sync.
    Good luck

  • How to transfer user accounts from Active Directory to Open Directory

Please help me , want to tranfer user accounts from Active Directory (Windows server 2012 ) to Open Directory (OS X server 10..2.9)

    Hi,
Go to the advanced administration for the OSX Server:
    https://help.apple.com/advancedserveradmin/mac/3.1/#apd6D7FE39D-32AA-400C-91E1-5 0ABC15655C8
This pretty easy way of connecting your server to the Windows server should give AD users access to OD services. That will be a good start.
Read up on this as well:

Do you want to import them all or just the Mac users?
    Goodluck!

    Welcome to the Apple community.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID, verify the changes, enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone".
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, verify it once again, delete the iCloud account from your device and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

By this time you probably have already solved this, but I think the problem is that the Search Base is relative to the attachment point specified with the PROVIDER_URL. Since you already specified "DC=mycomp,DC=isd" in that location, you merely want to set the search base to "". The error message is trying to tell you that it could only find half of the "DC=mycomp, DC=isd, DC=mycomp, DC=isd" that you specified for the search base.
    Hope that helps someone.

  • Provision Search in SharePoint Foundation 2013 without Domain Controller / Active Directory - Domain accounts

    Hi,
I have successfully setup SharePoint Foundation 2013 as single server farm with SQL Server Standard database in a DMZ environment using local accounts since DMZ doesn't have an Active Directory and hence Domain accounts using powershell as described
    in https://theblobfarm.wordpress.com/2012/12/03/installing-sharepoint-2013-without-a-domain-controller
When I run Farm configuration wizard to provision search service application, I get an error:
ERROR: "The service application(s) for the service "Search Service Application" could not be provisioned because of the following error: I/O error occurred."
The log file logged the details of this error as:
ERROR: "Failed to create file share Analytics_e441aa1c-1a8d-4f0a-a079-58b499eb4c50 at D:\SharePoint Search\Office Server\Analytics_e441aa1c-1a8d-4f0a-a079-58b499eb4c50 (System.ArgumentException: The SDDL string contains an invalid sid or a sid
    that cannot be translated."
After investigation, I found that potentially the error could be because the timer service is trying to setup a network share for analytics component (as part of provisioning search). It is trying to setup that share with a domain account that happens to
be a local user instead in this case and fails with error “System.ArgumentException: The SDDL string contains an invalid sid or a sid that cannot be translated”.
I got some pointer from the below thread
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/c8e93984-f4e5-46da-8e8a-c5c79ea1ff62/error-creating-search-service-application-on-sharepoint-foundation-with-local-account?forum=sharepointadmin
However, the above thread doesn't state that the solution worked.
I have tried creating share manually for Analytics_<Guid> folder but it doesn't work since every time farm configuration wizards is run it creates a new Analytics_<Guid> folder.
Since, I have setup SharePoint Foundation 2013 on a production environment I cannot test and trial various solutions.
Can some please guide me on how to successfully provision search for SharePoint Foundation 2013 setup as a single server farm with SQL Server Standard database in a DMZ environment using local accounts (without Active Directory - domain accounts).
    Thanks in advance.

Microsoft documentation doesn't always specifically call out all products (Project Server isn't there, either). But it does apply. You'll need to stand up at least one Domain Controller, or allow port access back to a DC.
Preferably, set up SharePoint on the internal network and use a reverse proxy (which will terminate client connections at the reverse proxy) present in the DMZ.

modified by is blank and its really strange. I checked user information list, tried to rerun user sync with direct AD import option but no success.

    Hi Amit,
According to your description, my understanding is that the page is blank when the use accessed /_layouts/15/userdisp.aspx and the created by field was blank when the user created a new list item in SharePoint 2013.
I tested the same scenario per your post, however I cannot reproduce your issue.
For troubleshooting this issue, I recommend to verify the things below:
Check the permission of the user in the corresponding site collection to see if he can access /_layouts/15/userdisp.aspx.
Delete the user from AD and SharePoint, then re-add the user to AD and grant proper permission to the user in SharePoint to see if the issue still occurs.
Did this issue occur with all the users? Add a new user in AD and test the same scenario.
    Best regards.
    Thanks

  • How to create an embedded link with VBScript that references user website from Active Directory?

I have scoured the web for days and have not been able to quite come up with exactly what I need for this. I have created an Outlook signature deployment using VBScript which sets information in an already formatted Word doc using placeholders. (Ex. [Displayname],
    [Initial], [City])
All of that works as expected, but now marketing would like to have an embedded link reference some of our users personal web pages. So the link would display some kind of standard text like "Click Here". Once clicked on the user would be redirected
to the personal web page of the person who sent the email. My problem is, I have no idea how to get the hyperlink to pull in the information from Active Directory...another problem is I know only enough coding to be dangerous so I am stuck.
Here is a sample of what I am working with, I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks!

  • Appending a csv column exported from Active Directory

    Hi Guys
We have a new access control system. The DB of the control system needs to be updated with new people from Active Directory. It has an import tool to this. I want to automate it to do it every hour. So I started writing a powershell script to export any
users that have changed in the last day. Here is what I have so far:
    Get-ADUser -Filter * -Properties * | Where {$_.Modified -ge $(Get-Date).AddDays(-1)} | select rcscardcode | Export-Csv -path C:\Users\johncolfer\Desktop\TempStuff\Active-dir\export12.csv
So as you can see I have selected a property "rcscardcode". It is a custom attribute in AD. An example of 1 of these numbers in the exported csv file is "1141410511000000" I need to be able to change this number to "1141410511"
and all subsequent numbers in that column of the csv file. Is this possible?
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks
    John

    Still no joy:
I changed a property for a test account in AD which is a standard attribute. So I changed the "company" attribute to "987654321000000" in attribute editor. I then ran the following
    Get-ADUser-Identitygoofy-Properties*|select
    company|%{
    $_.company=$_.company.Substring(0,10)
    } |Export-Csv-pathC:\Users\johncolfer\Desktop\TempStuff\Active-dir\export1342.csv-NoType
It ran ok, but there was nothing in the exported CSV. I was hoping to see 1 column with a value of "987654321"

  • Retrieving specific information (email addresses) from Active Directory in text/Excel file

Hello, out there. I'm just beginning to learn PowerShell finally, I'm very interested in learning cooler and better things.
I wanted to know if retrieving information from Active Directory based on a text or spreadsheet file was possible.
An example: I have a list of Windows Usernames from an Excel file, and I need to pull what email addresses they have from AD. They're a part of different OUs either. Rather than manually look up each individual account I'm researching a way to grab this
    info.
I would very much appreciate a push in the right direction.
    Thank you!
    LiQuiD_FuSioN

    Hi,
Sure, that's definitely possible. You can use the Active Directory cmdlets to retrieve this information. Here's an example of reading input from a text file (just usernames in the text file):
    Get-Content .\userList.txt | ForEach {
    Get-ADUser -Identity $_ -Properties EmailAddress
You can also read input from a CSV file quite easily. This example assumes a header of Username:
    Import-Csv .\userList.csv | ForEach {
    Get-ADUser -Identity $_.Username -Properties EmailAddress
Finally, here's a link to the Get-ADUser syntax:

  • Active directory mobile accounts

    Hi,
Just did a clean install of Lion, joined it to my active directory (Windows SBS 2003). No issues with this part...
But when I log in as a domain user, I get:
the home folder for user is not located in the usual place or cannot be accessed
Strangely enough, if I turn off mobile account creation, it works, and /Users/domainuser is created. If I then turn back on mobile account creation I get the error again.
Anybody else experience this? Any pointers on how to troubleshoot?

WORKAROUND for "Error: The home folder for user "ActiveDirectoryUser" isn't located in the usual place or can't be accessed. The home or Users folder may have been moved or deleted. If the home...."
I was able to "Fix" the Mobile Account issue above in Lion -for now. (Valid as of 8/18/11 on Lion 10.7.1)
    - In Directory Utility -> Active Directory -> Advanced Options, I unchecked "Create mobile account at login" and left "Force local home directory on startup disk" checked
    - Log out then back in as a networked user,  -A local home directory will be created under /Users but will not be accessible if network is offline (non-mobile)
    - Open Terminal
    --- Type: cd /System/Library/CoreServices/ManagedClient.app/Contents/Resources/
    --- Type: ./createmobileaccount -n username
The username you specify with the createmobileaccount command will turn it from a standard account into a mobile account.
This fixes Active Directory mobile accounts for the time being so now its on to Open Directory which refuses to stay bound after a reboot.
