Pathname for java.exe

Sql Developer 1.0 production release.
Why is it that with the production release you are being asked to enter the java.exe pathname? It wasn't required with the beta releases!!

Are you on Windows?
The only production downloads currently available don't include the JDK, which earlier windows downloads did. See the announcement in this forum about the availability of a full windows package.

  • Pathname for java.exe does not work

    Hi all,
on Windows, when prompted for full name to java.exe, I enter:
    C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\java.exe
Next, pressing OK, I get an error:
Cannot find a J2SE SDK installed at path: C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06.
What am I doing wrong here?
    Kind regards - Remi.

    OK got it.
I now use D:\oracle\Raptor\raptor\jdk\jre\bin\java.exe from my latest beta version.
This appears to work just fine.
    Thanks - Remi.

  • Hi i wrote a java program for scanning a system for java.exe 's

    hi ,
i wrote a program which scans the system for java.exe 's and then it captures them in a linked list and then i
iterate through it for "\\Java\\jdk1.5.0_08\\bin\\java.exe and my aim is to return true in case the linked list contains the string "\\Java\\jdk1.5.0_08\\bin\\java.exe" and stop scanning the system.
If the linked list does not contain "Java\\jdk1.5.0_08\\bin\\java.exe" it should return false.
But my problem is the program is continuing to scan the system even if the linked list has "\\Java\\jdk1.5.0_08\\bin\\java.exe"
Any sort of help is appreciated.

  • SQLDeveloper keeps asking for java.exe

Using 64 bit SQLDeveloper 2.1 and the 64 bit version of Sun Java jdk - Version 1.6.0_18 the sqldeveloper.exe keeps asking for java.exe at startup. The JDK was installed first.
I pointed the dialog at C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_18\bin\java.exe and sqldeveloper.exe starts up OK.
Next time I also have to also point it java.exe - and next time etc.
The only way I could fix this was to edit C:\Program Files\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.conf
    Old: SetJavaHome ../../jdk
    New: SetJavaHome ../../../Java/jdk1.6.0_18
Using Wordpad and using Run as Administrator - Notepad doesn't handle the embedded line feeds correctly and the file can only be saved when 'Run as Administrator'.
I would have expected the SetJavaHome to be updated after pointing the way to the JDK.
The old value would be OK if the JDK was installed with (within) sqldeveloper except it isn't for the 64 bit version.
    Kind regards

I just ran into this issue myself after upgrading to SQL Developer 3.2. I never had the issue with 3.1, so I was kind of surprised. Right clicking the desktop shortcut, choosing Run as administrator, and giving the correct location fixed the issue.
Certainly the dialog where you set your java version could be expanded with a bit of help.
    Two things could be added:
    - SQL Developer is currently certified with JDK 6 and we recommend using JDK 6 instead of JDK 7.
    - On Windows you may have to run SQL Developer as an administrator to persist this setting. You will only have to run SQL Developer as an administrator once. This has to do with Windows access controls.
Trivial to address and now there are many less questions on the forums and happier users.

  • SQL Developer asks for java.exe with the version that has java built in.

I have a user with the following platform:
    Windows XP2
    SQL Developer Version 1.5.4
The version they are trying to get running is the one that has the JDK built in. However, when they try and startup SQL Developer it asks for the location of java.exe.
However, when I run the same exact version on my workstation, I do not receive the prompt for a java.exe.
I checked the documentation, and I couldn't find anything related to this particular issue, however I may have missed it.
Can anyone provide me with any guidance please? Thanks.

Resolved. There was a difference of permissions on the user's machine.

  • How do I update Java.exe?

I'm using Secunia CSI, which detects out of date software on my PC.  It flagged Java.exe in december as out of date becuase Java 6 update 30 was release do to a security update.  My local install by my browser updated itself via the Java updater just fine.  BUT, secunia shows me that CS5 installed not 1 but 3 copies of Java, 1 in programdata\user\..blah blah..\JVM\, 1 in Dreamweaver\JVM and 1 in Flash Catalyst\jre, all version 16 or 18.  The forums tell me to run jucheck.exe in the folder, but that says 'latest version installed'  which I know is wrong by looking at the properties for java.exe in any of those 3 folders.
How do I update those installs?
I called adobe support and they said 'Java is a third party tool, we don't support it', even though they are the ones who installed it.
If I install java from a download from Java.com, in one of the places above by changing the default install location, it orphans the primary install by my browser.
Any ideas?  I can't be the only one who has an outdated version.

  • Java.exe Requirement to run SQL Developer?

Hi all, I'm very new to this so pardon my basic questions. I recently installed Oracle 11g and it came with SQL Developer.
However, when I attempt to start SQL Developer from the Windows Start menu, I get a popup that says cannot find SQLDEVELOPER.BAT.
I have looked around for this file in the Oracle folder in Program Files but did not find it. I did find the sqldeveloper.exe.
When I double click on sqldeveloper.exe I get the following, a dialogue box pop-up that wants the full path name for java.exe.
What do I need to do?
    Many thanks, -Nyssa
    Edited by: 984219 on Jan 25, 2013 10:19 AM

    Hi Nyssa,
Note that the version of SQL Developer that ships with Oracle 11g is rather old. In my opinion, the best approach would be to download the latest production release:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/downloads/index.html
Choose Windows 32-bit - zip file includes the JDK1.6.0_35 and unzip it into an empty directory. It will run on either 32-bit or 64-bit Windows systems and already contains the correct JDK, so you avoid having to worry about that.

  • How to create the exe files for java application

How to create the exe file for java application?
got any software to do that?
    Thanks

In terms of converting java applications into exe files, there are 3 schools of thought:
    1) Instead of converting it to an exe, convert it to a jar file. Jar files are more portable than exe files because they can be double-clicked on any operating system. The caveat is that a Java interpreter must be installed on the target computer for the double-clicking to work.
    http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/Books/javaprogramming/JAR/
    2) Create an exe launcher that, when double-clicked, attempts to find a Java interpreter on the local computer and launches the Java application. The exe file is still double-clickable but whether your java application runs depends on whether a Java interpretor is installed on the target computer.
    http://www.sureshotsoftware.com/exej/

    http://www.jelude.cjb.net/
    http://thor.prohosting.com/~dfolly/java/index.html
    3) Create an exe launcher that bundles a Java interpretor. Same as above but when the exe file is double-clicked, it searches for a Java interpreter and if one is not found, it installs one on the target computer. The caveat is that the exe file would have an overhead of 10 MB in size for the interpreter.
    http://www.excelsior-usa.com/jet.html (evaluation version available)
    4) Convert the Java application into a native exe file. The caveat is that if you use Swing for your GUI, it won't be converted. Also this option is still somewhat experimental.
Can't think of any free options right now.

  • Java.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.

I installed Oracle8i on my P4 then when I reboot I get the error "java.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close." even if I click on "don't report" if keeps popping up, anything to do to resolve this?
    Thanks.

    Hello...
i had the same problem. then when i searched oracle documentation, it suggested as follows:
    1. go to your %ORACLE_HOME%\Apache\Apache\conf\httpd.conf
    2. comment out 2 lines that has
    include ....\jserv.conf
    include ....\oracle_apache.conf
so your new line will be:
    #include ....\jserv.conf
    #include ....\oracle_apache.conf
Those lines are at the end of the file.
    3. save the file.
    4. reboot your machine.
that solution works for me.. hope it works for you too.
    GOOD LUCK!

  • HOw to create a Batch file for java application and whats the use of this ?

    HI,
How to create a Batch file for java application ?
And whats the use of creating batch file ?
    Thanks in advance

    First of all, you're OT.
Second, you can find this everywhere in the net.
If you got a manifest declaring main class (an classpath if needed), just create a file named whatever.bat, within same directory of jar file, containing:
javaw -jar ./WhateverTheNameOfYourJarIs.jar %*By the way, assuming a Windows OS, you can just double click the jar file (no batch is needed).
    Otherwise use:
javaw -cp listOfJarsAndDirectoriesSeparedBySemiColon country/company/application/package/className %*Where 'country/company/application/package/' just stands for a package path using '/' as separator instead of '.'
    Don't specify the .class extension.
Javaw only works on Windows (you asked for batch, I assumed .BAT, no .sh), in Linux please use java.exe (path may be needed, Windows doesn't need it 'cause java's executables are copied to system32 folder in order to be always available, see PATH environment variable if you don't know what I'm talking about) and use ':' as classpath (cp) separator.
The '%***' tail is there in order to pass all parameters, it only works on Windows, refer to your shell docs for other OSs (something like $* may work).
This way you have a command you can call to launch your code (instead of opening NetBeans just to see your app working). You could schedule tasks on it or just call it in any command prompt (hope you know what it is 'cause there have been people in this very same forum with no clue about it, if not just hold the 'Windows button' and press 'R', then type 'cmd' and run it).
Finally add dukes and give 'hem away.
    Bye.

  • Console window doesn't show on second start of java.exe

I am building restart capability into my product.
When the product is started for the first time, it is started through a Windows EXE using a ShellExecuteEx method. I simply launch "java.exe" with my classpath, etc. My Windows console window shows up and I am happy.
When a do a restart of the app, I am inside of the original JVM. I have access to the exact same commandline that I used in the EXE to launch "java.exe" originally.
With the restart, I simply call Runtime.getRuntime().exec(commandline) and pass in the exact same commandline that I passed in when I did this in the EXE. However, when I do this from within the JVM, I do not get my Windows console window. This is not good.
Does anybody understandn what is going on here and how I can remedy this?
Thanks in advance for your help!

I'm not sure what is happening in your case.
Do the images initially show in "Tools > Page Info > Media" or is that always with size 0px?
Quote: ''but if i click on same link second time than size gets right and image is shown under preview box.''
Is that with clicking on the web page?
Can you load the images via the links that you see in "Tools > Page Info > Media" without any problems?
Do you see the request for those images in the Network tab in the Web Console (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer) and what is the server response in that case?
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
