Pausing the timeline

I am using this script in the first frame that needs to be
paused:
stop();
var theTimer:Timer=new Timer(4000);
theTimer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, timerNx);
theTimer.start();
function timerNx(e:TimerEvent):void{
play();
theTimer.reset();
In the subsequent frames that need to paused I am using this
script:
stop();
theTimer.start();
This works fine as long as I don't need to pause longer than
4 secs each. However, each frame that has a pause may need to be a
different amount of time. How do I go about doing this without
confusing the heck out of myself?

Yes, that is what I am looking for, to set the increment as I
go along. I shall try this. I wish I could wrap my mind around
Actionscript as well as you. I'm a designer and so therefore, quite
prone to looking at this coding as some alien language. I'm hoping
with enough practice, I will be able to get the hang of it
eventually. Thanks!

  • Pausing the timeline on Press

    Hi, I found many similar topics, but nothing like this. For a
    project I am working on I want to be able to click on a movieclip
    and pause the _root timeline until another movie clip is pressed
    which will resume playing the movie. I was hoping this would be as
    simple as a Stop and PLay function but i know its much more
    complex. Could someone please help me with this code. It would be
    greatly appreaciated. AS2 please as I am not accustom to AS3 and
    the project is AS2.
    Thanks alot,

    Actually, it's not much more complex than you are hoping.
    What have you tried?

  • Interactive widgets and pausing the timeline

    I'd like to create an Interactive type widget that pauses at
    the end of its time on the timeline like a click box does, but as
    far as I can tell, any widget that returns true for isInteractive()
    is going to automatically pause the Captivate movie near the
    beginning of the widget's time on the timeline.
    Am I missing a setting, variable or function that affects
    pausing? "Pause for failure/success" doesn't seem to have any
    effect, and I can't find anything in the widget documentation that
    mentions the pausing behavior.

    I found the setting. It's the "Pause after" field in the
    Widget dialog box on the Options tab. Don't know how I missed that.
    However, I'd still be interested to know if there's a way to
    set this value from within the widget.

Sometimes it takes days for other suers to drop by and your post is arriving during the start of a long holiday weekend in the Sates so it might not be till next week befor someone who really knows how to answer this shows up. Your post is being viewed by people who want to know if you are serious but have no help to offer. Woudl you rather they posted nonsense? I have never had AE jumpt back to the start of the timeline and posting that information does not help you. I can assume you have a some sort of pref incorrectly set or your keyboard has been tweaked at the OS level to interpret a spacebar in AE as a Media Start command.
    From the AE help system:
    To modify keyboard shortcuts, use the KeyEd Up script from Jeff Almasol, which is available on the Adobe After Effects Exchange website.
    Sebastien Perier provides instructions on his website for assigning keyboard shortcuts to scripts so that you can run a script with a single keystroke. This technique relies on the KeyEd Up script.

  • Slide order in the timeline

    I have been shown how to do a very specific task in Flash Pro CS5. I have five slides in my timeline, with buttons that include links to product pages on our website. These five slides comprise a movie, with each slide being displayed for a few seconds and it repeatedly cycles through the five slides in a banner at the top of our home page.
    In addition there is a navigation bar below my slide images with a play and pause option, plus the five slide numbers so the viewer can navigate from slide to slide manually.
    I have been asked to change the order of the slides so that slide #5 now becomes slide #1 and slide #1 becomes slide #2, and so on. I can easily switch the images and links so that the slides are in a different order in my file, but now the navigation bar below does not work. In the Actions panel, the #1 button in the navigation bar still appears to be linked to slide 1, which now has the new images, yet the nav bar does not respond to clicks anymore.
    How was my nav bar disabled when I switched the images and links around between the slides? and how can I correct this?
    (Keep in mind, I know NOTHING else about Flash except how to replace the images and change the button links in each slide, which I do monthly, as this is the top banner on our website.)

    Thanks so much for your reply, Rob.
    The slides are on the timeline and each one is displayed as the playback head moves from one frame to another. I do this in my file by dragging the red rectangle with the red line extending from below it across the timeline, which is on a layer that the original author named MC Content. However, when I go to the layer called Scene 1 where the navigation bar is, the red rectangle at top will not move when I try to drag it.
    I don't know what the action script does except to link my button to a page on our website. The code looks like this for slide 1.
    slide1_1_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, myButtonFunction5_1);
    function myButtonFunction5_1(event: MouseEvent) {
    var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("http://www.tobaccofreecatalog.org/ProductDetails.aspx?id=2&itemno=J660");
    navigateToURL(request,"_self");
    I don't know if the slides use actionscript to show and hide each one.
    Now that I look at it, maybe all I need to do is change myButtonFunction5_1 to myButtonFunction1_1 on the above code?
    I don't know how to answer your last question. The individual images for each slide are jpegs I created in InDesign, but I don't know how they are referenced or what that means.

  • When I pause the sound still continues

    When I pause the sound still continues. When will I test the movie in the timeline and use the timeline buttons not break the sound along with the image , it continues until it stops , the problem is that I have very long sounds and he plays to the end.

    I'm guessing that the sound is embedded in the timeline. If this is the case, then select the keyframe where the sound starts and then, in the Properties window, set the Sync property for the selected sound to "Stream".

  • Manipulating FLVplayback with the timeline?

    Hi, I have run into a roadblock.
    Here's the situation: I am using the FLVplayback Component as
    an intro to my site. The component is sitting on frame 1 of my
    timeline. Also sitting on frame one is a button that sends the
    playhead to frame 2 when clicked. Even though the FLVplayback only
    resides on frame 1, it continues to play after the button is
    clicked.
    How do I set this up so that when I click the button and send
    the playhead to frame 2, the FLV playback stops?
    Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me :)

    Do you still want the FLVPlayback to exist in frame 2?
    If not then just make sure its on its on layer in the
    timeline and put a blank keyframe in that layer's frame 2.
    If you want it to stop or pause play... and if it was called
    my_FLVPlybk in the property panel then you could follow
    these instructions...(Flash 8)
    Pause:
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/8/main/00003565.html#3706795
    Stop:
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/8/main/00003617.html#wp3725931
    Just put the stop or pause command alongside the button code
    that moves the playhead to frame 2

  • Is it possible to lock clips in the timeline?

    I would like to lock some of the clips that I am using so that they won't change when i add another clip to the timeline.
    I do this in audio programs such as Pro Tools and if I am doing something that will change the timeline the program asks for permission to continue if it will affect other clips.

    digibud: We could argue all day about "who" is a "pro," or "what" makes one tool more "professional" than the next. (I won't change your mind, and you won't change mine. And I'm supposedly a "professional" who's worked 20-plus years in broadcasting.)
    But, I will say this: Recently, I toured through an Internet company in Silicon Valley. I paused next to an unkempt 20-something kid editing a sophomoric ("gross-out") video for a YouTube channel. He was cutting on FCPX. And, I was sure, in his lifetime, he has probably never seen a single frame of video through "Avid" or "Premiere" (not to mention the clunky CMX I used on years ago.)
    I chuckled. But, my host (the kid's boss) sensed my haughty disdain and said, "Go ahead and laugh. That 'kid' gets several hundred thousand views every week. Last year he made about $200,000 dollars in subscription fees and advertising revenue." (which, I was told, was only a "cut" of what the Internet company made off those same videos.)
    I suddenly realized that "kid" is every bit a  "professional."
    It made me think how Apple has realized there is a whole new generation who will edit video for new platforms--for media delivery systems that don't even exist yet. It made me think how "professional" is a relative term. Are "professionals" those few tens of thousands of people who edit feature films, television shows, commercials, news programs and corporate videos, using expensive post-production gear and software? Sure. But could "professional" ALSO be those millions of people all over the world who will make a living (as a "profession") delivering content to HUNDREDS of millions of viewers / consumers? So...  Perhaps Apple realized this when they developed a low-cost, user-friendly, versatile application called "Final Cut Pro X." But, I could be wrong.

  • Understanding the Timeline

    I need help working with and undersanding my timeline.  I have everything working fairly well until the end of the slide.  Even though it works, I realize that I do not understand the pause points in time and how they should be sequenced.
    Each slide represents a step of a math problem.  One of the steps of adding fractions is to find the Least Common Denominator.  To find the Least Common Denominator, the student must first find the multiples of the denominators, which multiples are in common, and which common number is the least (smallest).
    Below is the slide where the student finds the multiples.  I have left out a text animation for answers correct, but am showing the other objects:
    1) The Menu button should always be visible and available to the student.
    2)  There are four TEBS and on the timeline they each have pause points shown on the timeline.
    This is what it looks like when the student first sees the slide:
    If correct answers are input, the student sees:
    If answered correctly, Next Step takes them to the next slide where they are asked to tell which of these multiples are in common.
    If they get a couple of answers wrong on this question, they see:
    If there are incorrect answers, the student can re-submit (unlimited times) and try and get the correct answers.
    By clicking "Review and Try Again" the student is taken to a YouTube video on finding multiples of numbers and then can return to this slide to try and get the correct answers.
    By clicking "See Solution" the student watches a video clip (event video?) that shows how the correct answers are arrived at and what those answers are.  The student would watch this clip and then proceed to the next slide, which lists the correct multiples (answers from this slide) and asks them to look at the list of multiples and asks which multiples are common to both numbers.
    By clicking "See Solution" the student accepts an "incorrect" for this step of the problem and is able to proceed with the problem.
    The following objects have pause lines in my timeline:
    1) The four TEBs
    2) The Menu Button
    3) The Submit Button
    4) The Review and Try Again button
    5)  The See Solution button
    Should the pauses for the different things be sequenced?  I was thinking that the See Solution should somehow be last so that the video clip plays and is the last thing on the slide.  I've been playing with it, but can't seem to get the video to play after clicking See Solution.

    You can add an action at the end of a Timeline. You can delete the FullImage there.

  • How to remove the timeline recording status from published projects?

    Hi
    I am using Captivate 5 and would like to know what/where to find the settings to take the status recording bar off for my published projects.
    Sorry I'm not sure what to call this but It's the timeline that lets' you pause, play, fastforward, rewind, etc.

    Thank you so much!

    Hi there
    This is known as the "Playback Controls" or "Playbar".
    To remove it, click Project > Skin Editor and clear the option labeled "Show Playback Control".

  • Can I arrange clips in the timeline based on when they were recorded?

    Hello everyone, thanks to whoever took the time to give some attention to this post and excuse me for my bad english..
    This is the thing:
    I have hundreds of clips from three different cameras that were covering a very long event and a single audio file (2 hour long) and I want to sync them together. I'm looking for a way to somehow arrange the clips in the timeline chronologically, based on their metadata of when the clips were recorded...
    Note that I thought of this purely on instinct and I don't even know if it's possible, but it sound like such a good idea that I'm hoping Adobe thought of it already and since it would be very useful for my daily workflow, I've decided to do some research.
    I have looked EVERYWERE, spent countless hours reading forums (even this one) but with no success and this is my last attempt...
    I just hope you can understand what I'm looking for and that someone can help me!
    Thanks again for your time!
    Regards!

    Thank you very much for your reply, shooternz!
    Actually, since I have been researching this for some time, I already got to the point of sorting the clips in the project bin as far as to eneble the metadata column with the "date created", which even has the precise hh:mm:ss of when the clip was created.
    My struggle is to organize the clips in a new sequence using maybe the time of the first clip as refference so that all the other clips are arranged chronologically, by the time that they were created.
    I appeciate the tip, in fact I have been thinking of a way to plan the shooting better, but since I cover mainly long events, I have to constantly pause the camera, thus creating several clips...
    Thank you once more!
    Regards!

  • Adding a Glossary button which doesnt move the timeline on !

    I'm using Captivate 3. On each page there is a
    backwards/forwards button. On this one module we've now added a
    'Glossary button'. If the user clicks this it opens up a external
    PDF file in a seperate window. That works fine.
    Say they are at the end of a page , the page is paused as its
    waiting for them to click Back/Forward or Menu.
    However if they click the Glossary button this moves the
    timeline forward as its a kind of 'continue' which is frustrating
    as it then moves to the next page. I just want them to be able to
    click Glossary as many times as they want and the program doesnt
    move on a page.
    Has anyone come across this before ? Just want a button which
    doesnt seem to move on ! Its not set to continue at all. Just set
    to open an external file
    Regards

    Hello P_SJ,
    The way I would tackle this would be to create the button in
    Adobe Flash (including the link to the PDF document) and then
    import this into Captivate as an animation. The reason for me
    suggesting this is because with Images and Animations you can make
    the object persist for the entire project (Options tab > Display
    for > rest of project).
    If you don't need the button to persist then you could just
    disable the Pause after option (Options tab) in the Button dialog
    and set the On success menu option to Open URL or file.
    I guess that even if you did need the button to persist you
    could just copy the button and paste this onto all the relevant
    slides. That might work as well.

  • Is it possible to have multiple pause the require view to click "continue" button to proceed?

    Is it possible to have multiple pauses the require view to click "continue" button to proceed?

    1. Turn the video into a symbol.
    2. Set stage, symbol and video to not autoplay.
    3. Set play in the video playback at the start of the video timeline.
    4. Set pause in the video playback at the prefered time on symbol timeline.
    Once I convert it to a symbol , the pause funtion is not showing on playback.
    5. Zoom in as much as you can on symbol timeline and set trigger "stop all" for the symbol right after the pause playback marking.
    6. Set play in the video playback right after the "stop all trigger" marking.
    7. Create button with action play symbol.
    You can now play a video which will stop at a pre set pause, and make it countinue to run by clicking the play button again.

  • Pausing a timeline

    I want to be able to pause a movies timeline for 3 seconds,
    then have it start playing again.
    I appreciate any help you could give me.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Pausing the main timeline
    The key to this project is understanding Flash’s wrist
    watch. If you have an analog wrist
    watch, the minutes are marked around the dial and the second
    hand ticks around the dial.
    Flash doesn’t have a second hand, it has a millisecond
    hand; and the watch face is not
    divided into minutes or seconds—there are 1,000 little
    division marks.
    Instead of a millisecond, think about a mouse click. There
    are actually two things involved
    in that event. There is the event in which the mouse button
    is down and the event in which
    the mouse button is up. How fast that happens is dependent on
    the amount of time you
    use to press and release the button. In Flash, we can capture
    that small amount of time and
    turn it into an eternity if we so choose. Same thing when you
    let go of the button. When it
    comes to working with time in Flash, the unit of measure is
    the millisecond, and we can
    turn a millisecond into an eternity (which, incidentally, is
    not a good idea).
    In this exercise, you are simply going to tell Flash,
    “When you hit this point on the timeline,
    hang around for two seconds before moving on to the next
    millisecond and doing what
    needs to be done.” Here’s how:
    1. Open the PauseTimeline.fla file. If you scrub the playhead
    across the timeline,
    the box, thanks to the tween, gets bigger.
    2. Add a keyframe to frame 15 of the scripts layer. Select
    the keyframe and open the
    Actions panel.
    3. Enter the following code into the Script pane:
    this.stop();
    This is the line that stops the playhead from moving forward,
    and it is also the line of code
    that can turn a millisecond into an eternity. If you stop the
    playhead, have a solid plan in
    place to get it back in motion.
    4. Press the Enter/Return key, and enter the following code:
    var timelinePause:Timer = new Timer(2000, 1);
    timelinePause.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER,
    timerHandler);
    timelinePause.start();
    The first line tells Flash to create a Timer object. In
    ActionScript, when you use the class
    name followed by parentheses, you are creating what is called
    a constructor, which is a
    fancy term for an instance of a class. The numbers between
    the parentheses tell Flash the
    duration of the timer (2,000 milliseconds, or 2 seconds) and
    how often to wait around for
    that 2 seconds. The 1 means “only wait for it
    once.”
    NOTE: There are two ways to create object instances. If it is
    a movieclip, button, or text field,
    it can be created on the stage or dragged onto the stage from
    the library by hand.
    Programmatic instances need to use a constructor.
    The next line tells Flash what to do when the two seconds are
    up; which is to execute a
    function named timerHandler. The final line tells Flash to
    reset the timer, and start the
    timer if it isn’t already running.
    5. Press the Enter/Return key and enter the following code:
    function timerHandler(evt:Object):void {
    this.play();
    As you may have guessed, this is what happens when Flash
    waits around for the 2 seconds.
    The play() method simply tells the timeline to start playing
    again (see Figure 4-21).
    6. Save and test the movie. The box will grow, stop growing
    for 2 seconds, and then
    continue to grow.
    this.stop();
    var timelinePause: Timer = new Timer(2000, 0);
    timelinePause.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER,
    timerHandler);
    timelinePause.start();
    function timerHandler(evt:Object):void{
    this.play();
    Hope this helps you out ;)
    Kind Regards,

  • At a Genius Bar appointment yesterday, we determined that I needed to go to Mountain Lion from Lion.  I purchased Mountain Lion at the Bar, and paused the install so that I could resume from home.  Now I can't find it to resume. Not in Downloads. ?????

    When I upgraded to Lion, my Parallels stopped working and I got a Bootcamp error message.  It had worked fine for the prior year.  I upgraded to Parallels 7.  No luck. At the Genius Bar, the Genius uninstalled Bootcamp.  No luck.  I still get "The Boot Camp partition /dev/diskOs4 used by Hard Drive 1 is missing."
    Another Genius suggested upgrading to Mountain Lion.  While at the Bar, I purchased Mountain Lion and then we paused the install so that I could resume it at home.  Once I got home, I can't find the Mountain Lion installer to resume.  It's not in the Downloads file.  Any clue?
    My business programs all run on Windows, so I have to get it operating.  The Genius Bar isn't much help.  Does anyone know how to get Mountain Lion installed?  How to get Parallels working?

    The "Geniuses" (and I use that word in sarcasm) at the Bar are lying to you. Upgrading from Lion to Mt Lion will not fix whatever problems you are having. In fact it will most likely make them worse.
    If you want to try installing Mt Lion to fix the problems you are having you will need to open the Mac App Store link in your Dock, Login to your Apple ID account for the MAS and go to your Purchases area. Mt Lion should be in there and you will be able to do a proper download. Once you either set your Mac into sleep or shut down and then left the internet connection at the Bar all record of that download was lost. So you will need to restart it again from the beginning, like described above.
    Good Luck
