PC-UI Framework on MAC OS
Hi,
I have worked earlier with BSPs on the MAC OS using various browsers by working around the browser check. However, I wanted to confirm that the PC-UI framework for CRM 4.0 also runs on the MAC OS even if just on IE and Netscape. Could someone please confirm?
Thanks & Regards,
Rohini.

Media Encoder CC crashes on launch (7.1.0, on Mac OSX 10.9)
My Media encoder crashes on luanch every time since I installed Mavericks. Everything is updated to the latest version and I've tried uninstalling the entire Premiere CC package and reinstalling, numerous restarts, etc. This is on a Macbook Pro 17" Late 2011. Any help? I'm hoping someone from adobe sees this since I waited on chat hold for 2hrs on Friday only to be disconected and your phone support is down.

Steinberg's Commitment to Apple+ 64bit +Cocoa Framework
Read this and ponder whether Steinberg or APPLE's Logic are gonna have the first truly 64 bit DAW
Here's a statement on the Cubase forum...
Steinberg are committed to a complete rewrite of Cubase
SURELY Apple are MORE committed to LOgic
"Dear Steinberg Mac users,
We recently had an informational meeting at Steinberg to update internal departments about the progress of our preparations for Leopard. At the meeting were a number of Steinberg people from various departments, including two of Steinberg’s directors from the executive management team. We’d like to share the main points with you, and update you about how we’re coming along in this very important transition for our applications on the Mac.
Markus Stehlik is Steinberg’s Director of Development. “The preparations for Leopard are progressing very well. We are continuously testing and adapting our products with every new Beta version of Leopard and we will do so on the final release also. Since it’s normal for operating system betas passed to software vendors to be changed before the final version, we need to have the final version for compatibility results which we can rely on. The release of 10.5 will put us on the home straight towards an announcement of full support.
“Additionally, as most of you know, Apple announced that Leopard will be 64-bit, which we’re very much looking forward to supporting. However, Apple has also recently announced a strategy change (compared with their statement of one year ago) at the last WWDC in San Francisco. According to this, Apple will no longer be supporting their Carbon Framework technology for 64-bit applications on Mac OS X, and we have been using that so far for 32-bit and 64-bit development. ISVs like us will be forced to use the Cocoa Framework instead, which delays our 64-bit development for the Mac platform. So although it will take our Mac team longer to deliver 64-bit code for our applications, we will do whatever it takes to offer this to our Mac customers.”
Frank Simmerlein, Steinberg’s Marketing Director: “As a long-time Mac user myself, I’ve been following the developments concerning Leopard closely from a user’s point of view. The new OS 10.5 is looking very cool feature-wise. We’ll be updating Mac users with more information about the move to Leopard nearer the time to help smooth the transition to Leopard. Markus has laid out the reasons why we can’t say when we’ll be offering 64-bit support for Mac, though. And while we can't say exactly when the 64 bit version is available and it might take some time to get there, we want to make absolutely clear that the Mac platform is and will remain a vital one for us, and that we will stick to it come what may.”
So to recap: 10.5 support is coming up for Cubase and Nuendo following on from the release of Leopard, which is slated at Apple for October. We’ll be keeping you up to date with the progress of 64-bit support along the road. Please check back here for more information as we progress towards the release of 10.5.
Best regards,
Your Steinberg Teamhttp://www.steinberg.net/index.php?id=2420&L=1
Built on Cocoa
The Cubase Essential 5 framework for Mac OS X has been reworked: it has been “de-carbonized” and is now “cocoa-ized”. This is the foundation for a Cubase Mac OS X 64-bit version which is planned at a later stage and is not part of the Cubase Essential 5 release.
That's a huge step, the biggest obstacle to going 64 bit. Who knows when, but they have definitely made a lot of progress. Don't forget, they have also been shipping Cubase and Nuendo as 64 bit apps on windows for a couple years now so they aren't totally new to it. But probably not more than a few months away.
Also, the latest update of Stylus RMX is 64 bit, Trillian will be when it's released, and then Spectrasonics will be using what they've learned from those two to update Omnisphere.
East West said recently that they have a 64 bit version of their PLAY plugin and it's in the beta testing phase now.
There's also an interesting new product called Vienna Ensemble that's a plugin and instrument host that can either run on the same machine or a second (and more) computer via ethernet - it has the ability to run both 32 and 64 bit versions at the same time (hosting both 32 and 64 bit plugins) and send the audio back to either a 32 or 64 bit host. Basically a node for any plugin including sampler instruments, and one that can mix and match 32 and 64 bit plugins.
64 bit audio on mac is on its way, the question is whether logic will support it within the program or if we'll have to use workarounds to take advantage of it. -
SunPKCS11 and NSS on Mac OS X 10.5
Hello there,
I've been scratching my head the whole day about how to use the SunPKCS11 provider and Mozilla's NSS framework under Mac OS X 10.5 (a.k.a Leopard).
Let me replay the whole movie for you...
So here I am, religiously following Sun's guidelines ([Java PKCS11 reference guide|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/guides/security/p11guide.html#NSS]).
I have of course compiled and installed [Mozilla's NSS and NSP|http://www.mozilla.org/projects/security/pki/nss/].
So far, so good. Now, I followed Sun's instruction and wrote a configuration file for the SunPKCS11 provider. It looks like this:
name = NSS
nssLibraryDirectory = /Users/<path_to_lib_dir>/lib
nssDbMode = noDb
attributes = compatibilitywhere <path_to_lib_dir> refers of course to the real path on my Leopard machine.
To test my setup, I use a trivial program that I've found in this very forum if I remember correctly. Here is the error I (violently!) get when trying to run it:
$ java6 -cp /Users/<path_to_my_classes>/*:. MySmallProgram
java.security.ProviderException: Could not initialize NSS
at sun.security.pkcs11.SunPKCS11.<init>(SunPKCS11.java:183)
at sun.security.pkcs11.SunPKCS11.<init>(SunPKCS11.java:86)
at MySmallProgram.test_nss_with_sunpkcs(MySmallProgram.java:214)
at MySmallProgram.main(MySmallProgram.java:255)
Caused by: java.io.FileNotFoundException: /Users/<path_to_lib_dir>/lib/libnss3.jnilib
at sun.security.pkcs11.Secmod.initialize(Secmod.java:169)
at sun.security.pkcs11.SunPKCS11.<init>(SunPKCS11.java:179)
... 3 moreOf course, I checked the content of the /Users/<path_to_lib_dir>/lib/ directory and... I got a whole bunch of NSS libraries but not the one SunPKCS11 is looking for. I got a libnss3.dylib library (the equivalent to libnss3.so on a "regular" Unix machine) but no jnilib library. And indeed, why should I have a JNI library? I thought that the purpose of SunPKCS11 was to provide the JNI stuff required to bridge the gap between Java and native libraries.
After that, I tried to install [Mozilla's JSS|http://www.mozilla.org/projects/security/pki/jss/] but all I get is a libjss4.jnilib library and nothing like a libnss3.jnilib.
So, any guess about what's going on? Should I really have a JNI library instead of a pure, standard C library?
Any help will be reaaally appreciated.
Regards,
Ctrl-x-53You shouldn't be calling System.loadLibrary...The SunPKCS11 provider loads all that up for you. You don't need to explicitly load ANY native libraries to use this.
Code-wise, all I do is:
Provider nss = new sun.security.pkcs11.SunPKCS11("c:/nss/nss.cfg");
Security.insertProviderAt(nss, 1);the contents of c:/nss/nss.cfg:
name = nss
nssLibraryDirectory = /nss
nssSecmodDirectory = /nss
nssModule = keystoreIn /nss I have all the NSS and NSPR libraries (and .chk files) and I created a new db with certutil.
At that point you can either pass the provider object around or I think it names them all "PKCS11-<name>" so in my case "PKCS11-nss". You can have several different SunPKCS11 providers installed and active at one time.
Oh and it shouldn't be any problem that you compiled NSS/NSPR as 64-bit libraries as long as everything else (like the JVM) is 64 bit. You will run into problems trying to mix and match but it should work fine all 64-bit.

And now reading stuff again...you say it all works fine on linux. Maybe it's just something about how you've compiled it? I don't have any experience with OS-X. I would recommend posting to the mozilla.dev.tech.crypto newsgroup or join the mailing list at [https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/dev-tech-crypto|https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/dev-tech-crypto] and asking the NSS developers directly.

AIR 3 RC Native Extensions On Mac OS X Error
I'm getting an error when trying to compile a native extension (.framework) for Mac OS X 10.7 with XCode 4.1; I've included "FlashRuntimeExtension.h" in the project but not sure if i'm missing something else as there is a lack of documentation for Native Extensions with XCode for a Mac Framework (the error I get is "_FRENewObjectFromBool" - symbol(s) not found for architecture i386.
I have AIR 3 RC and the latest Flash installed on my machine.
I'm not sure what i'm missing?
Thanks!Hi lemonility,
Could you try the following steps out and let me know if they help?
1) Select the project in the project navigation window which will show project summary on right
2) Select 4th tab build phases
3) Select Link binary with library option
4) Add framework for which you are getting
5) Move the framework from main folder to the frameworks folder
6) Build it again and errors should be gone.
Thanks,

Plugins, deployment & Qt on a Mac
I have a plug-in that links to the Qt framework (QtCore.framework and QtGui.framework) on Mac OS X 10.6.8 - XCode 3.2.6
So I'm trying to deploy the plug-in onto a mac that doesn't already have the Qt framework installed, but with no success so far. This is what I've done:
Added a Copy Files Build Phase to copy QtCore.framework & QtGui.framework to my plug-in bundle's Frameworks folder.
Added a "Run Script Phase" to alter the install names of the frameworks which looks like this:
install_name_tool -id @loader_path/../Frameworks/QtCore.framework/Versions/4/QtCore ${BUILD_DIR}"/"${WRAPPER_NAME}/Contents/Frameworks/QtCore.framework/Versions/4/QtCore
install_name_tool -id @loader_path/../Frameworks/QtGui.framework/Versions/4/QtGui ${BUILD_DIR}"/"${WRAPPER_NAME}/Contents/Frameworks/QtGui.framework/Versions/4/QtGui
install_name_tool -change /usr/local/Trolltech/Qt-4.7.4/lib/QtCore.framework/Versions/4/QtCore @loader_path/../Frameworks/QtCore.framework/Versions/4/QtCore ${BUILD_DIR}"/"${WRAPPER_NAME}/Contents/MacOS/QtDeploymentTest
install_name_tool -change /usr/local/Trolltech/Qt-4.7.4/lib/QtGui.framework/Versions/4/QtGui@loader_path/../Framewo rks/QtGui.framework/Version/4/QtGui ${BUILD_DIR}"/"${WRAPPER_NAME}/Contents/MacOS/QtDeploymentTest
install_name_tool -change /usr/local/Trolltech/Qt-4.7.4/lib/QtCore.framework/Versions/4/QtCore @loader_path/../Frameworks/QtCore.framework/Versions/4/QtCore ${BUILD_DIR}"/"${WRAPPER_NAME}/Contents/Frameworks/QtGui.framework/Versions/4/QtGui
But when Illustrator attempts to load the plug-in on the target mac, I'm getting this error:
Error loading /Applications/Adobe Illustrator CS5.1/Plug-ins.localized/QtDeploymentTest.aip/Contents/MacOS/QtDeploymentTest: dlopen(/Applications/Adobe Illustrator CS5.1/Plug-ins.localized/QtDeploymentTest.aip/Contents/MacOS/QtDeploymentTest, 262): Library not loaded: @loader_path/../Frameworks/QtCore.framework/QtCore
Referenced from: /Applications/Adobe Illustrator CS5.1/Plug-ins.localized/QtDeploymentTest.aip/Contents/MacOS/../Frameworks/QtGui.framewor k/QtGui
Reason: image not found
Any ideas anyone? I was under the understanding that @loader_path should be the path to my plug-in's executable but ld still fails to load it.Garvan, you are a legend, thank you!
AFAIK, the @loader_path is set to QtGui once that is being loaded.
^ This was the vital piece of info I've been missing. I knew that QtGui loaded QtCore but I wasn't aware that @loader_path was reset once a library had been loaded.
I wasn't aware of @rpath until I read an article today stating that it should be used in favour of @loader_path, I'll be looking into that next!
FYI, your '..' count was spot on
Much appreciated as always, thanks again. -
When set to "Automatic", when does .Mac sync?
I have a network of Macs and am syncing iCal. All are running OS 10.4.9. Syncing works properly when I do it manually from the machines. But I need to sync automatically. But, often those Macs that are set to sync using .Mac using the "automatic" option can go for days without actually syncing. Does anyone know what the triggers are for automatic syncing? I would assume that, anytime new data is entered a sync would soon occur. Also I would assume there would be an automatic sync to get new data 'once-in-awhile'. But I don't know what the 'rules' are and when I can actually expect a sync to occur for Macs set to automatic. Anyone know? And why does the sync occasionally not Kick in? Thanks in advance!
Julian's right: the .Mac Sync forum is the place to ask, as iSync no longer has anything to do with synchronization to and through .Mac.
The short answer—and, because of the complexity of the synchronization framework, this is a difficult question to simply and accurately answer—is that Automatically is construed to mean '…whenever changes occur, and in any event, no less than once each hour.' This gets complicated when multiple clients are involved, and when other clients—like .Mac Sync—get 'invited to the party' when you initiate a synchronization event with your mobile handset through iSync.
This document explains more than you probably ever wanted to know, and most of what is publicly available in a single source, about the synchronization framework under Mac OS X 10.4 and later:

I have to instal eve3.framework on mac os x. I put it in library/framework and I start my application but it give me the following error: "Unable to locate "Eve3.framework" - The necessary bundle could not be found. Could anyone know how can I instal correctly this framework?
Thank'sHello exfiniti,
You can get .NET Framework downloads directly from Microsoft, below you will find the link.

Mac-PC Syncing? (Potential Switcher Friend wants to know)
A friend of mine is on a PC, and syncs his home computer, laptop, blackberry, and phone.
He's considering getting a Mac for one of the rooms in his house. (Probably a 20" iMac).
Is there an easy way to get a Mac into this loop so he could sync his Outlook contacts and calendars with Apple Address Book, iCal, and Mail?
Thanks.One approach is to use the capabilities of Entourage to pass data from Outlook through an Exchange Server, then to iCal and the Address Book via the Sync Services framework in Mac OS X 10.4 and later, and to perform the reverse process also. Doubtless he will not be running his own ridiculously expensive Exchange Server license, so he will need a low-cost, 'time-sharing' Exchange Server to perform such services for him. To find one, search this forum for the phrase "Exchange Server," as the issue has been discussed on several occasions, and users offer links to such providers.
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/entourage2004/using.aspx?pid=usingentourag e2004&type=howto&article=/mac/library/howto_articles/office2004/ensyncservices.xml
Here is a link to an area where specific issues regarding Entourage synchronization are addressed:
http://www.entourage.mvps.org/faqtopic/syncservices.html
There are other approaches, including the use of Plaxo exclusively for contact data interchange, and Google calendars for iCal.
Snerdware offers a couple of Outlook/Exchange aware applications for Mac OS X - Groupcal and AddressX:
http://www.snerdware.com
Remember that Mac OS X 10.5 will ship in a few weeks, and it provides substantial changes which will affect this issue, including calendars shared through iCal Server. -
Hi,
Is there any way to port my Office VSTO customization to Apple Mac platform? I'm completely ignorant about macs, and now I am asked about it, and I need help.
So, is there the equivalent MS Office 2003 for Mac which supports customizations and also whether there is .NET framework for Mac that can run VSTO assemblies?
ThanksNo, nothing has changed - there are still no VSTO tools for the Mac.
As far as creating add-ins or extensions for MacIntosh, I recommend you ask in a Mac-specific venue. Unfortunately, I don't know of any specific address...

I've got a javascript for CS3/Tiger that I'm writing that eventually will let a user select an image and a caption in InDesign, then tells bridge to write the caption data into the image metadata. I need help - the script works in pieces, but not when put together.
It's built as an indesign script, then follows the procedure to create a script object to send to bridge. When it runs, the indesign portion works fine, but nothing happens in bridge.
The script is below, with comments.
Can someone help!? Thanks.
// This is the InDesign portion of the script, which was tested separately and is working fine. Right now, for testing purposes, the data from this portion isn't even used by the later Bridge portion but once I get the bridge part together, it will use those variables.

// here's where I create the string of the script to send to Bridge.
// the script itself is almost completely a lifted from the SnpModifyMetadta sample from the Bridge sdk
// it basically finds a certain image file and modifies the description metatata. i hardcoded the caption text and image path just for testing- eventually i would like it to use the variables from indesign.
// this script works fine as-is when run in the original Bridge scripting context.
// the method here of concatenating and sending the myScript string works fine when i use a different (smaller) script. so i can't tell why it's not working!?

I rechecked my previous post and found a couple of serious mistakes. So I revised it according to what he asked. Each page in his InDesign document contains one image and one text frame with description.
At start the script checks the selection. If nothing is selected it processes all pages in the document. In case two objects are selected – it checks whether one of them text frame and the other a rectangle and if the rectangle contains an image, then it reads the contents of the text frame, replacing hard and soft returns with spaces and writes this text to the corresponding image’s description field.
In the end, it updates all links and saves the file.
The script works both on Mac and PC, assuming that CS3 installed in the default location so long as it depends on libraries:
/C/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Bridge CS3/AdobeXMPScript.dll (on PC)
/Applications/Adobe Bridge CS3/Bridge CS3.app/Contents/MacOS/AdobeXMPScript.framework (on MAC)
So, if necessary, correct these lines.
Here is my script in case somebody is interested:

var myDoc = app.activeDocument;
var mySelection = app.selection;
if (mySelection.length == 0) {
ProcessPages();

Canon RAW images displaying color borders at contrast edges
I noticed annoying color borders in RAW images taken from my Canon PowerShot S120. They look like the color planes are misaligned. Around high contrast areas (between light and dark grey) I can notice magenta borders in one direction and cyan borders in the opposite direction, both approximately 5 pixels wide.
I record and store images as RAW+JPEG pairs. In Aperture I set RAW as master.
In the original JPEG of the image pair from the camera this error is absent, the color is neutral on both contrast edges.
The error in the RAW image can also be seen when the file is opened directly in Preview or if the RAW image is exported to a TIFF using Aperture and then opened with Preview.
I compared this to older RAW+JPEG image pairs I took with the previous model, a Canon PowerShot S90. There I see yellow and blue borders in opposite directions in Aperture or Preview, also approximately 5 pixels wide. In the camera's original JPEG image from the image pair this is still a bit visible, but far less pronounced.
My oldest RAW images taken with a Nikon E8800 (.NEF) don't show such artifacts when viewed in Aperture.
Since the JPEG from the pair does not have these artefacts my guess is that the RAW converter is not optimal or some metadata in the Canon RAW files (.CR2) is either missing (worst case) or not used correctly.
My hope is that I just have to adjust some presets to correct this. Else it is probably up to Canon or Apple.
Does anyone know how to fix this issue (without going through the individual files, if possible)?Hi Keith
Thanks for the infos.
Just to clarify:
I didn't ask for RAW, I just use raw formats because there's curretly no better alternative. I would like to see what came into the lens - like an ideal hole camera . Ordinary JPEG is way too limited (8bit resolution per color channel plus really ugly compression artefacts).
For archiving I would much prefer the JPEG2000 format with lossless encoding and as many bits per pixel as the camera's analog to digital converters provide, linearly encoded (above the noise background but including one bit of noise, to be precise). But, alas, when I did my last experiments (Snow Leopard) the image framework in Mac OS X did still not support more than 8bit resolution per color channel in JPEG2000.
One good thing about raw formats is that the corrections could actually be better than what is always done by the camera's firmware for JPEG or standard TIFF at the time of the shot. Another good thing is that various sensor and color patterns can be handled directly.
If Canon can do it in DPP, then I strongly hope they will also provide a better converter for Mac OS X. On some pictures this aberrations are really obvious and irritating. -
Implementing 2 Different User Interfaces
Hi all,
i have implemented an application that communicates with a certain type of
digital camera, now there is the demand to support a second type of
camera with a slightly different user interface. My question is, can i use the
code that i already have (something like the DLL concept in Windows, i
believe its called creating my own framework in Mac OS X) and just switch
between interfaces when i detect the second type of camera?
This brings up the question of using 2 different ViewControllers as well.I am
not sure how to go about that at all. Can anybody give me some pointers?
Thank you very much!
Best Regards

In fact, all plug-ins and extension can be integrated as 'PLUG-INS"
in InDesign CSx (x=cs3/cs4/cs5/cs5.5/cs6)
1. Why does Apple not like FLEX ? Is it just because Flex/Flesh builder an wrap of cocoa framework on Mac?
2. Will adobe have a compressed version of InDesign for iPad or even iPhone?

This is a basic question!
If I copy the link to my form I created and add it in my cover email, are respondents able to see everyone's responses when they submit the form? I do not want anyone but myself to see any of the responses...how do I ensure that happens? Thank you!!
