PCA "becomes" COPA

Hi Experts!
In our new project we should integrate a new company to our SAP system.
The new company is using many non-SAP systems (for billing, SD etc).. only FI and CCA/PCA is in place.
The main reporting requirement is to have profitability by paper machine.
The point is that in our SAP system we have only COPA.
My question would be how should I start to build up the concept to transfer their PCA system into our COPA system?
My idea was to take FI bookings coming from interfaces from other systems and either book them to a cost center and allocate it further to COPA and/or building up a direct profitability segment posting in FI postings...
Is there anything where I have to pay extra attention?
Thanks for your ideas/suggestions!

Hi,
I'd suggest, if it's possible, to build the profitability segment already with FI documents passed to your main system. Alternatively, you could think of an option to populate your CO-PA directly by independent interface from the combination of the local systems and other SAP. Then of course, your CO-PA will contain integrated documents from your SAP and 'disconnected' information from other systems, but still it would be possible to give proper profitability analysis. Keep in mind, that CO-PA mostly is a BI cube and could be managed totally independent from other SAP components if required. I implemented this oprion in several projects I was involved in.

Eli

    I am confused on how to perform  validation on COPA :
                planning level
                planning package; and
                planning methods exists
    Please advise.
    thanks!

  • PCA Integration with COPA

    Hi Gurus,
    I need some document on PCA Integratiion with COPA.
    This is urgent.
    Thanks in advance
    Surya

    There is no PCA integration with COPA. Both PCA and COPA are basically receivers and do not pass on data to other modules.
    Hence, any assessment / distributions you do in PCA is not reflected in COPA and similarly any top down distributions you do in COPA will not be reflected in PCA.
    Both PCA and COPA receive data from the source module simulatneously. e.g. if you are doing an assessment of CC balances to COPA, it updates PCA and COPA simultaneously.

  • PCA-COPA

    Hi All,
    We are having couple of issues with the explosion program in COPA/PCA...if someone can give me more details on how these explosions gets created or i know there are programs which pulls information for this packages and we can modify it...after modification..is there something Functional Conslnt needs to setup??
    Any help will be greatly appricieted and rewarded..Thanks in advance
    Desp:
    1)Currently the Explosion Programs for PCA and COPA will not correctly explode the Special Pack if it can be sold in alternate Units of Measures (e.g., Eaches, Boxes, Cases, Pallets). We need to have the programs modified so that it can correctly Explode all multi-branded products that can be sold in multiple Units of Measures
    2)Currently COPA is not exploding Units but needs to as part of the Explosion program. It may also not be exploding Kgs but needs to. As well this may be affecting PCA and Essbase explosions
    Posible Solution:
    Modify the explosion programs for PCA and PA to correctly explode special packs that can be sold in alternate units of measure. In addition the business requires that PA explode the quantities and Kgs. Note that, to prevent explosion errors, products that are special pack have been set-up as regular products. This is currently a work around.
    This is a custom report so basically the work will be done by the ABAPers right?
    i would appreciate if some one can tell me what my role in this would be, i dont
    have a lot of knowledge of COPA
    Thanks,
    Zaid

    go check table GLPCT field RUNIT,  and table T006.
    my ABAPer friend showed me the steps: sm30-> " * T006* ", then do F4, you will find all the views for table T006, choose one and click " maintain", then you can add some measurement you want and save the new values.

  • Difference between COPA-PCA

    HI Guru's,
    What are the major differences between COPA and PCA..
    regards
    JK

    Hi,
    this is a pure consulting issue and cannot be dealt within a few sentences.
    PCA and COPA can be used simultaneously.
    Please have a look on http:// help.sap.com --> ERP (english documentation) --> SAP ERP Central Component --> Financials --> Enterprise Controlling (EC) (for information regarding PCA) or follow the path Controlling (CO) --> Profitability Analysis (COPA) regarding information of COPA.
    For a brief comparison between COPA and PCA follow the path:
    Enterprise Controlling --> Profitcenter Accounting --> The Concept of Profit Center Accounting --> Role of Profit Center Accounting in the SAP System --> The Distinction Between Profit Center Accounting and Profitability Analysis (CO‑PA):
    Profitability Analysis (CO‑PA), like Profit Center Accounting, is another form of profitability accounting. However, it is incorporated in operative cost accounting. That means that the profitability segments in CO‑PA are accounting assignment objects and are thus directly integrated in the flow of data in cost accounting.
    In contrast to EC-PCA, where profits are found for areas of responsibility within the company, CO-PA lets you analyze the profitability of different segments of your operative business -- defined according to products, customers, orders, or any combinations or groups of these -- or organizational units, such as company codes or business areas. The aim of CO-PA is to provide the accounting department and decision-makers in sales, marketing, product management and corporate planning with information about the market.
    You can define the master data and basic structures in CO‑PA flexibly to meet your company’s specific requirements. By choosing just the objects for evaluation (characteristics) and key figures you require, you can create a company‑specific multidimensional structure for analysis.
    Unlike EC‑PCA, CO‑PA lets you use an account‑based or a costing‑based approach. In the costing‑based approach, you can define your own value fields for analysis. In account‑based CO‑PA, the values are represented in accounts.
    EC‑PCA and CO‑PA should not be regarded as alternative components. On the contrary, they complement one another and jointly provide you with a flexible and comprehensive profitability accounting tool, allowing you both a market‑oriented viewpoint as well as a responsibility‑ and person‑oriented one.
    Best regards,
    Andreas

  • FI , PCA, COPA Corrections

    Friends,
    Due to oversight, one of our SD condition types relating to standard production cost was not revalidated for the FY 2007 (the condition table for that condition type was not maintained for the FY 2007). Further, from 01-Jan-2007 to 12-Jan-2007, sales orders and other subsequent documents (delivery orders, goods issue, billing documents and accounting documents) were created (around 11,000 billing documents have been created). Fortunately, the postings to the customer a/c were not affected.
    We now want to correct the FI, COPA and PCA documents that were posted during the period. Please advice on how best to make the correction postings in all 3 areas viz. FI, COPA and PCA.
    Due to the sheer number of documents, reversal of the erroneous documents is ruled out. Also, we want to correct the postings by the month-end for reporting purpose.
    Please advice on how best to do the same.
    Thanks & Regards,

    I don't fully understand your error. If all three GL, COPA and PCA are incorrect then in that case I would make a correcting entry in GL that flows to PCA and COPA. You'll need a GL account that is set up to allow direct postings to PA. The config will have to be in place to pass that account to the proper COPA value fields.
    You also can make direct postings to PCA 9KE0 - Enter  and COPA KE21N - Create Line Items . This alows you to go in and make any entries deemed appropriate. This would be used to snch them up with GL.
    pls assign points as a way to say thanks.

  • COPA report showing as positive values which should be show as Nagitive val

    Dear Experts
    I have one issue with COPA and Profit center reports reconciliation where the both have same structure
    user  compareing the (Period :dec 2011)  report PCA and COPA there identified some values are difference  so we started investgation
    one of the cost element showing in nagitive value in accoungint document and same  it is showing postive value in COPA report
    that values for debit and credit line items are adding (,) insted of Cancellation  (+,-) , so that COPA report is incresed the value for one value field when compare with PCA report line items
    could you please let any guide me where is the problem is occuring
    thanks
    Rana

    Hi,
       The COPA sign logic depends on the cost element type used (costs or revenues) and also the customizing of the '+/-  transfer sign' in tcode KE4I.
    The following table shows an overview of how condition values are
    updated in CO-PA for billing documents from SD:
    Billing document (normal) "With +/- sign"    "Without +/- sign"
    Debit posting                          negative            positive
      (such as sales deductions)
    Credit posting                         positive            positive
      (such as sales revenues)
    Credit memo/return         "With +/- sign"    "Without +/- sign"
    Debit posting                          negative            negative
      (such as sales revenues)
    Credit posting                         positive            negative
      (such as sales deductions)
    The "+/- sign" refers to the "Transfer +/- sign" flag in tcode KE4I where you assign SD conditions to COPA value fields.
    If the system is behaving as shown above and you want a different behavior then you could change the sign in user exit COPA0002.

  • BW PCA extraction with the new GL

    Hi SCN
    I have a customer who is currently running classic GL loading into BW which also includes PCA and COPA.
    The R3 system is also running the new flexible ledger in parallel and the plan is to switch off classic GL at some point.
    I am preparing to unwrap the new GL extractors 0FI_GI_10 and 0FI_GL_14 but can anyone advise what affect of using new GL will be for PCA?  Do I need to replace the extractors as for GL ?
    regards
    Ian

    Hi Ian,
    Generally speaking New GL can replace PCA. That's why usually you will switch off PCA after activating New GL. Only the Profit Center as master data object will remain and shall be used as characteristic in New GL.
    As a consequence, you can deactivate the PCA transaction data flow(s) in BW at some point in the future. Especially if PCA is switched off in the ECC system, it won't make sense to continue loading from PCA. You must continue the Profit Center master data loads.

  • WIP Settlement to CO-PA

    Dear experts,
    I use sales order item to carry cost and revenue (account assignment E/B) in non-valuated mode. At period end closing, I conduct result analysis to calculate revenue, COGS and WIP and the result is correct. The result analysis is based on revenue and if billing to customer, all occured cost will be regarded as COGS, or if not, as WIP.
    But when I settle SDI to CO-PA, if the SDI has revenue and COGS, the settlement is correct. But if RA result is WIP, only one FI document is generated but no CO-PA document.
    The business requirement is that for WIP, the cost will be settled to a cost value field and the same amount but opposite value will be settled to a revenue value field. My question is whether standard result analysis + settlement function won't settle WIP to CO-PA as I planned. If no, do I have alternative way to realize my aim?
    Thanks so much!
    Alan Huang

    Hi,
    SAP best practice is settle WIP to FI and PCA not COPA.
    that is why we never create WIP P&L GL account as a cost element.
    Thanks,
    Rau

  • Business area vs profit center togather

    HI, FRIENDS
    friends i need to know that can we use business area and profit center to gather at a time.
    eg
    1). business area at different region in the country.(different branchs)
    2)  profit center at product line level.( different products)
    please help me to understand this.
    thank you in advance.
    Moderator: Please, avoid asking basic questions

    Hi,
    Business area and PCA both functionality same, on ECC 5 onwards PCA become a part of FI.(New GL)
    Business area and PCA both are Reporting tools to view (B.S & P&L)
    PCA is more flexible compare with Business area.
    Business area not supporting for OKB9 settings.
    Note: As per standard we are using only one tool  Business area or PCA.
    i hope this information helpful to you...!

  • Printing PDF's In Preview Not Working Well

    I use a ScanSnap scanner to scan several hundred page documents and then print them in whole or in part using Preview. There used to be an option to have multiple "images" (if I remember the phrasing correctly) per page (2, 4, 8, 16 etc) but now that option has become "copies". When it was "images", it would place successive pages of the PDF, now, it simply duplicates the PDF pages onto the actual printed pages. For me, that meant that I could use two sided printing and print essentially 4 pages of the PDF file on only physical sheet of paper.
    Now, before someone mentions it, there is an option under the "layout" section of number of pages per sheet, and this does what I want, but with huge margins compared to the other method.
    Also, if anyone is worried that the whole idea of the Scnsnap was to go paperless; I have an excellent reason for needing to scan these documents and then print selected sections as I have described.

    I have the same problem where preview squishes the lines together.  It seems it is on 1/2 spacing instead of 1 line spacing.  To correct this I have to double space to get it to look single space.  I created the fillable form in Acrobat X as multiline.
    This first screenshot is text typed into the fillable form.
    This is the result when I click out of the form - it returns squished.
    I add returns and make the form entry double space.
    Now the result with double spacing in the filliable space makes it single space.
    Very annoying!

  • Folder transformed into 'alias' while backing up to DVD - help!

    Yet another horrible mess that only Apple seems able to dream up....
    I was dragging & dropping folders of documents onto a blank burn folder to create a back-up of them on a DVD. Whilst dragging 3 folders across, somehow 2 of them ended up on the blank DVD window, & the other one finished up in the trash - I have NO idea how; I was not anywhere near the trash, & the other two got across okay. So I thought I would just drag this folder back to where it came from - WRONG - nothing is ever simple in Apple world is it - I now have the folder with 'Alias' next to it. I can open the documents that are in it, but I cannot back it up onto any other disk or memory stick. Which is pretty important as this was the most important of all the folders I was trying to back up! I have tried putting it in the trash again & then clicking 'put back', but I still just get this stupid 'Alias' thing.
    Help please; can someone explain to me how I can get this folder back; this must be possible since I did not delete it forever; all I did was put it in the trash, but it's entire nature seems to have been morphed into something else. These things are SO simple in Windows!

    While having looked in here a few times since you first posted this issue,
    I'm uncertain what to attempt to resolve the underlying problem as it may
    have something to do with user permissions, file ownership, and so on.
    Usually the admin or main user account owns almost everything it can
    control, sometimes this gets messed up and so the files you move may
    become copies instead of originals, so you'd get an odd alias instead.
    However that said, I'd consider (if possible) complete backups of your
    entire system to an externally enclosed boot-capable hard drive with
    its own power supply so it does not need computer power to run it.
    And then use a clone utility (carboncopycloner, or superduper) and
    attempt to make a suitable complete system clone; maybe even with
    all your applications and other parts intact, together.
    That would take some time, perhaps a few hours. Then with a bootable
    and tested clone, consider a fully new installation of your system et all.
    Right down to the roots. (This may affect any Recovery partition, btw.)
    Also if the hard disk drive is original equipment, a replacement may be
    in order at some point. The Apple Hardware Test is not conclusive.
    The hard drive may have bad sectors or files that have been ignored or
    overwritten, or minor corruption issues that may affect the system.
    Sometimes just a restart into SafeBoot, and run repair disk permissions
    in Disk Utility's first aid, can help odd file action in a user account. Be
    sure to restart normally...
    Hopefully someone who knows more about how to diagnose (terminal or
    superuser modes) the OS X can find your thread and reply to it. Several
    lengthy procedures could be helpful to help diagnose possible problems.
    The readout from Console utility OS X log files may also point out details.
    Sorry to say that I don't have a direct answer to your issue, but did have
    some experience several OS X versions ago. Now considered vintage.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • My object won't acknowledge the "new" command.

    Okay I have this class called Die that is suppose to simulate a die with the added behaviour that it ceases to operate if 6 is rolled. But that problem is that when ever I try to declare multiple instances of the Die class with the new command the Die objects becomes copies of each other and are not independent. So change to one object alters all the other objects. I don't know why it is doing this. I am including the code of my Die class and my die population class which has the array which I am trying to populate with independent Die objects.
    public class Die {
         private static int numTosses;
         private static boolean alive;
         public Die() {
              numTosses = 0;
              alive = true;
         public int getNumTosses() {
              return numTosses;
         public boolean alive() {
              return alive;
         public void toss() {
              if (alive == true){
                   numTosses++;
                   int dieToss = (int)(6*Math.random())+1;
                   System.out.println("Die toss result " + dieToss);
                   if (dieToss == 6){
                        alive = false;
                        System.out.println("Dead");
         public String toString() {
              return "Number of Tosses thus far\t" + numTosses;
    public class DicePopulation {
         //instance variables
         private Die []dice;
         private int numAlive;
         private int numTossesAll;
         //constructor
         public DicePopulation (int numDice){
              dice = new Die[numDice];
              numAlive = numDice;
              numTossesAll = 0;
              for (int i = 0; i<numDice; i++){
                   dice[i] = new Die();
         public int getNumAlive (){
              return numAlive;
         public int getNumTossesAll (){
              return numTossesAll;
         public void tossAll (){
              for (int i = 0; i<dice.length; i++){
                   boolean diceStatus = dice.alive();
                   System.out.println("Die index " + i + " Die Status " + diceStatus);
                   if (diceStatus == true){
                        System.out.println("Tossed Die Number " + i);
                        dice[i].toss();
                             if (dice[i].alive() == false){
                                  numAlive--;
              numTossesAll++;
         public String toString (){
              return "number times all tossed\t" + numTossesAll + "\tnumber alive\t" + numAlive;

    Couldn't the problem also be that he has declared
    the object "dice" outside if the intialization loop
    causing each instance in the array to be a copy?
    I know that the static would cause a problem but
    couldn't the other be the case as well?Huh?
    The declaration of dice seems correct to me, remember our hero here used 'i' as loop variable and you should know that a bracketed 'i' formats text in italics here, so this loop actually readsfor (int k = 0; k < dice.length; k++) {
        dice[k] = new Die();
    } i.e. no copies ...

  • Accounting entry settings for variance analysis

    Hi all,
    When we perform variance analysis for a production order, an accounting entry is passed clearing the under or over absorbed portion in production cost centers or in overhead cost centers.
    Could any one tell me where to make this configuration that when variance calculation of order is performed ... the financial entry clearing the over/under absorbed portion is posted automatically.
    I heard that this entry is posted manually. Please kindly enlighten me if what I heard is correct. If so then what activity does KKS2 perform.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    DSK

    Hi,
    With KKS2 TC,you can only calculate variances and with KO88,will settle variances to FI/PCA and COPA.
    Production variance,account determination is part of OBYC TC.
    Goto OBYC>GBB>AUA/AUF -->product capitalization account
            OBYC>PRD>PRF -->production variance account
    Thanks,
