PCD folder structure best practices

Hi All,
I'm in de process of modeling the PCD folder structure and would like to get some hints on the best way of doing that.
I've read Managing Big Portals 1 and 2 and some issues made a lot of sense to me.
Some specifics:
-My portal should support three languages, this will specially be the case for KM-related iViews (news, documents)
-The portal has the perspective of growing considerably in the following months/year following a descentralized KM content management model, possibly moving towards descentralized PCD content management
I'm leaning towards the following structure:
KM News
English
Roles
Pages
Worksets
iViews
Portuguese
Spanish
KM Documents
+English
Portuguese
Spanish+
Collaboration
All Languages
External Apps
All Languages....
Administration
All Languages
I still couldn't find a solution I like to the fact that some iViews/Worksets will have the same name for different users..
Any comments? Sugestions?
Thanks in advance!
Günther.

When the Action has to access some elements in the main frame (e.g. it has to get some data from the currently selected node in the tree), how should this be accomplished? Should I use a static reference of the main frame in my application-class (which holds the main()-method)? Or should I pass in the main frame into the Action while creating the instance?I would pass the main frame to the action(s) that need it. Having a public static member to access your application makes it available to everything in your program, not just the stuff that needs it. In strict OO design, you should shoot for as much data hiding as possible.
And another related question: Is it common to use the same instance of an Action to use it e.g. for a menu bar and for a button?Yes. That is the point of Actions. If you didn't reuse an Action you'd have duplicate code, once for the menu item and again for the button.
What if I wanted to have basically the same Action (i.e. the action being performed is the same) but give it two different labels?Although it's been awhile, I seem to recall that if you call setText() on the button/menu item, it "overrides" the name of the Action. e.g. if you have an Action with its NAME property set to "Action", then this menu item will display "Action":
item = new JMenuItem(action); But this menu item will display "New Text":
item = new JMenuItem(action);
item.setText("New Text");

  • Question about database structure - best practice

I want to create, display, and maintain a data table of loan
    rates. These
rates will be for two loan categories - Conforming and Jumbo.
    They will be
for two loan terms - 15year and 30year. Within each term,
    there will be a
    display of -
    points (0, 1, 3) - rate - APR
    For example -
    CONFORMING
    30 year
    POINTS RATE APR
    0 6.375 6.6
    1 6.125 6.24
    3 6.0 6.12
    My first question is -
Would it be better to set up the database with 5 fields
    (category, term,
points, rate, apr), or 13 fields (category, 30_zeropointRate,
    30_onepointRate, 30_threepointRate, 30_zeropointAPR,
    30_onepointAPR,
    30_threepointAPR, 15_zeropointRate, 15_onepointRate,
    15_threepointRate,
    15_zeropointAPR, 15_onepointAPR, 15_threepointAPR)?
The latter option would mean that my table would only contain
    two records -
one for each of the two categories. It seems simpler to
    manage in that
    regard.
    Any thoughts, suggestions, recommendations?

  • Best practices for folder structure in SOA Project

Actually, In my project, I have more than 10 BPEL process and several DBAdapters and some HumanTasks. For each BPEL process, JDeveloper creates .bpel, .componentType, wsdl files. For DBAdapters JDeveloper creates lot of files, and same for HumanTasks as well.
By default Jdeveloper puts all these files in root directory of the Project. It looks messy having 100's of files in root directory.
How can I organize all these files?
What are the best practices for folder structure in SOA Project ?
    Thanks

Yes Yatan. I did noticed that Polling service WSDL disabled in EM . But I want to try this approach beacause I want to move all database related stuff to one composite. I have another composite with 3 BPEL Processes. One BPEL queries external webservice and save the response in DB. One BPEL just fires the first Process(Query) and respond to caller with an unique id. I have Another BPEL which keeps polling on database for 5 sec(I'm using PICK Activity), if there is any new record in database it will retrun to caller. If no new records in database, returns empty to the caller after 5 sec.
If I put all these in one composite, having lot of files in root directory, the composite really looks very messy.
As you said, I want to have 2 composites. First Compoiste will have 3 BPEL processes, and 2nd Composite will have DB Polling and DB Save. I will have another project for MDS to store XSDs.
So because I can't have Polling service as exposed service, I have to keep Polling service in the same Composite where the BPEL is. Now again it goes back to Big and messy project.
Is there any way I can separate all DB related including polling in a separate Composite ?
    Thanks

  • Best Practices for Removing Shots from BDMV folder

    CS6 Production Premium Suite
    Win7x64
    Canon XA10
I would appreciate feedback on the best practices for the following situation:
Using Windows Explorer, I copy the BDMV folder from the XA10 to my Talk2 project folder.
The BDMV folder has three one hour shots (talks) where each shot is one hour called Talk1, Talk2, and Talk3.
Each shot consists of several MTS files in the STREAM folder since MTS files have a maximum file size so a new MTS file is created when a given MTS file reaches the maximum file size.
Since I only want to have Talk2 stuff in my Talk2 project folder, I need to remove the Talk1 and Talk3 stuff from the BDMV folder.
I delete the Talk1 and Talk3 MTS files from the STREAM folder.
I delete the Talk1 and Talk3 CPI files from the CLIPINF folder.
I leave the PLAYLIST folder as is.
Using the Media Browser, I import Talk2 (which consists of two MTS files).
    I edit the clip.
This procedure seems to work, but I do not know if there are any "got you" issues.
    Thanks in advance.

Oh, don't do it that way.  I know a lot of people do, heck, my boss does, but it's just asking for trouble.
Treat your card as if it was your original tape master (because it is).  It is the most important thing you have.  Don't delete or move any part of it.
If you want to break up the talks, do it as you shoot them.  Use separate cards for each talk and archive each one separately.  There is too much valuable information in the structure of the card format.  You may not need it now but your editing program may need it later.

  • Best practices for EasyDMS Public Folder usage/management

    Hi,
We are implementing EDMS and are looking for best practices on the use of the Public Folder in EDMS.  We have different sites that have different business models, such as Engineer to Order or a "Projects" based business.  While other sites have a large Flow operation of standard catalog products with ordering options.   Initial thoughts are to put only documents in the public folders that are common to all users at a site, such as document templates or procedures.  Others suggest putting project folders there where anybody can browse through the different documents for a project.   And that raises the question about who is the owner or manager of that public folder.  We don't want the masses to be able to create random folders so that soon the structure of the Public Folder is a big unorganized mess.  Any thoughts on best practices you have implemented or seen in practice are appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Joseph Whiteley

    Hi!
My suggestion is to skip the folders all together! It will end as a total mess after a couple of years. My recommendation is to use the classification of the document type and classify the document with the right information. You can then search for the documents and you don't need to look through tons of folders to find the right document.
I know that you have to put the document in a folder to be able to create it in EasyDMS but at my customers we have a year folder and then month folders underneath where they just dump the documents. We then work with either object links or classification to find the right documents in the business processes. Another recommendation is to implement the TREX engine to be able to find your documents. I donu2019t know if this was the answer you wanted to get but I think this is the way forward if you would like to have a DMS system that could be used to 10+ years. Imagine replacing Google with a file browser!

  • DW:101 Question - Site folder and file naming - best practices

OK - My 1st post! I’m new to DW and fairly new to developing websites (have done a couple in FrontPage and a couple in SiteGrinder), Although not new at all to technical concepts building PCs, figuring out etc.
For websites, I know I have a lot to learn and I'll do my best to look for answers, RTFM and all that before I post. I even purchased a few months of access to lynda.com for technical reference.
So no more introduction. I did some research (and I kind of already knew) that for file names and folder names: no spaces, just dashes or underscores, don’t start with a number, keep the names short, so special characters.
I’ve noticed in some of the example sites in the training I’m looking at that some folders start with an underscore and some don’t. And some start with a capital letter and some don’t.
So the question is - what is the best practice for naming files – and especially folders. And that’s the best way to organize the files in the folders? For example, all the .css files in a folder called ‘css’ or ‘_css’.
While I’m asking, are there any other things along the lines of just starting out I should be looking at? (If this is way to general a question, I understand).
    Thanks…
    \Dave
    www.beacondigitalvideo.com
By the way I built this site from a template – (modified quite a bit) in 2004 with FrontPage. I know it needs a re-design but I have to say, we get about 80% of our video conversion business from this site.

So the question is - what is the best practice for naming files – and especially folders. And that’s the best way to organize the files in the folders? For example, all the .css files in a folder called ‘css’ or ‘_css’.
For me, best practice is always the nomenclature and structure that makes most sense to you, your way of thinking and your workflow.
Logical and hierarchical always helps me.
    Beyond that:
Some seem to use _css rather than css because (I guess) those file/folder names rise to the top in an alphabetical sort. Or perhaos they're used to that from a programming environment.
Some use CamelCase, some use all lowercase or special_characters to separate words.
Some work with CMSes or in team environments which have agreed schemes.

  • Best practice for iTunes' music folder

i keep my music on an external drive, but want itunes to be able to play the songs.
currently, the itunes music folder is set to its default location. i changed the preference to prevent iTunes from copying music to this location. i added music to iTunes using File | 'Add folder to Library' menu.
my friend, who also has his music on an external drive, set his itunes music folder to the Music folder on his external drive.
what are the differences between these two approaches? what are the issues?
is there a best practice for using iTunes w/ music stored on an external drive?
    thanks for your time.
    craig

    Thanks Paul for helping
I am getting the symbol and can locate the song but it is very time consuming and I can't do whole albums .
I tried dragging the entire music folder into iTunes . Is this it , iTunes Music Library.xml ? These are all the files and folders I found
iTunes 3 Music Library Data file
iTunes 4 Music Library Data File
iTunes 4 Music Library (Old) Data File
    iTunes Music folder
    iTunes Music Library.xml document
    Temp File Document
I unchecked the "Copy files to iTunes Music folder "
before I dragged the xml. doc into the iTunes symbol in the dock .
This seems to have made matters worse . Now I can't find the file at all except through the finder .

  • Best practice for making changes to Oracle apps business views and BAs/fold

    HI
The oracle BI solution comes with pre-defined Business Views- database views and Business Areas and folders. If we want to customize those database views or BAs and folders what will be the best practice in order to avoid losing it during any upgrades.
For ex Oracle out-of box Order Management BA that we are using heavily needs some additional fields to be added to Order Header and Order Lines folders and we also want to add some custom folders to this BA.
If we do the changes to the database views behind this BA would they be lost during the upgrade or do we have to copy(duplicate) those views, updated them and create a custom BA and folders against those views.
    Thanks

    Hi,
If you are adding new folders then just add them to the Oracle Business Area. The business area is just a collection of folders. If the business area was changed in an upgrade the new folder would not be deleted.
If you want to add fields to the existing folders/views then you have 2 options. Add the field to the defining base view (these are the views beginning OEBV and OEFV) and then regenerate the business views. This may be overwritten if the view is upgrade but this is unlikely.
Alternatively, copy the view to create a new version and then map the old folder to the new view and refresh. You may need to re-map the folder if the folder is upgraded, but at least you have a single folder used by both Oracle and custom reports.

  • Best practice for infoview and which folder to save webi or crystal reports

    All,
I was wondering what are your thought about the following question.Imagine you have a customer using at the same time webi reports and also crystal reports against BW.
The thing is that he is transporting the crystal report thru SAP using the rsadmin transaction to manage his crystal reports, but also use the SAP transport to move them to PROD .As far as webi, he is using the import wizard to move them to PROD. \
As you know the crystal reports will end up into an SAP folder .. something that is such as SAP/(description of the menu role).
Well webi reports happen to be inside the public folder.
The question was .. what would be the best practice
1 u2013 store all your crystal reports against BW in the SAP menu roles as it is ending up thru the SAP transport and have the webi reports inside the public folder ?
2 u2013 Copy your webi reports from the public folder to the SAP /Menu role folder where my crystal reports are ?
3 u2013 copy your crystal reports from the SAP/(menu role folder) to the Public folder ?
Let me know what is your feeling as best practice
    Thank you
    Philippe

    Just a hint:
The path SAP/2.0 is not mandatory. You can configure the SAP BW publisher on the BW side (transaction /CRYSTAL/RPTADMIN) so that your reports will be stored in another folder on the BOE side. Please note that the addition of the role name in the path cannot be overrided.

  • What is the best way to explore a hierarchical folder structure?

    Hallo,
I need to access and navigate a hierarchical folder structure hosted in a MS SQL Server database. In particular there is a root folder containing several folders. Each child-folder contains further nested folders or documents.
For each item I need to retrieve the folder's (name, path, etc) and the documents (title, author, etc.) details that are retrievable from the DB fields. Afterwards I will use these data to create a semantic web ontology using Jena API.
My question was about which is the best way to proceed.
A collegue of mine suggested to use the "WITH" command of SQL Server to create and use a link list to navigate easily the structure, executing just one query rather than several (one for each level of the nested loops). However in this way the solution will work only with the SMQ Server database, while my goal is to achieve a more general solution.
    May someone help me?
    Thank you in advance,
    Francesco

My goal is to create a documents library ontology achieving, from each element of the hierarchy (folder or document), some data (title, parent, etc.) and use them to "label" the ontology resources.
I will use a little of both approches in the following way:
    1) I make just ONE query on folder table to get, from each folder, its path (eg. root/fold1/fold2/doc1.pdf), its ID and ParentID and ONE on the Documents table to get the containerID, title, etc.
    2) I create as many Folder objects as the retrieved records and an HashTable, where the KEY = Folder.ParentID value and the VALUE = Vector<Folder>. I add then each object to the Vector relative to the same ParentID. In this way I have an Vector containing all the folders child of the same parent folder and I do the same for an HashTable keeping the documents contained in a specific folder.
3)I extract from the HashTable the root folder (whose ParentID is always "0" and whose ID is "1") than it is invoked the method appendChild() (see code)
public static void appendChild(int ID, Resource RES)
              Vector<Folder> currFold = table.get(ID);
              for(int i=0; i<currFold.size(); i++)
//Extract the child and crate the relative resource
                   if(table.containsKey(currFold.getID()))
                        appendChild(currFold[i].getID(), Resource newRES);
In this way I go in depth in the hirarchical structure using a "left most" procedure. I made a test and the output is correct. However, such an approch must be done for about 4 level depth folders (around 30 in total) containing also documents and creating the documents library of a Project. Then I must process around 20 project to achieve for all of them such a documents library representation.
By the way, I do not have to mantein the HashTable content after I created the docs library ontology. Hence I use just one hashTable for ALL the projects and I flush it after I finish to do the loop for one project in order to save resources.
My question is: is right my approach or might I improve it in some way?

  • "best practice to maintain the SAP OM Org Structure"

    Hi SAP Experts,
My client want to have an best practice or an safe process to update, better and maintain their existing SAP HCM Organizational Structure. In one way you can say that i am doing an process oriented job.
Our client system is not up-to-date due to the lack of user awareness and complete knowledge on the system. Due to this they are unsure on the accuracy of the reports that comes out of the system.
As a HCM functional consultant i can look from the technical perspective but not on this process oriented role. I need your guidance in this regard, please sugguest me how can i move ahead and make  some really valuable recommendations ? I am confused on where to start and how to start. Please help me in this regard.
    Thanks in advance,
    Amar

The only thing u need to keep in mind the Relatioships between the objects in OM
check the Tcode OOVK  for relationships and assigning those objects   PP01 , PP02

  • Best practice to populate metadata of the content based on the folder

    Hi,
What is the best practice to follow to automatically populate metadata of a content being checked-in based on the folder in which it is coming in?!
The folder I have may be a contribution folder or a collab project folder.
But I would like to populate the metadata of the content automatically when the content is dropped into a folder using the desktop integrator.
    Thanks,
    Leo

Yes Leo, that's correct, all documents inheriting the metadata of the folder and the option to propagate changes to documents and sub-folders is out-of-the-box functionality.
Just create a folder and set the metadata fields you want, then add some documents via the desktop integartion or simply via webdav (you can map ucm as a web folder in windows explorer without having to install the UCM desktop integration).. all the document should have the folder's metadata by default.
Give it a try and let me know how you go.
    Regards,
    Juan

  • Best practice height "above the fold" ?

    Hi,
Are there any best practice dimensions that I could lean against if I want to build a site with lots of images that should look good on a 1024x768 monitor?
I am thinking about how much height space I have at my disposal for presenting image content "above the fold", and how all different browsers and tab bars take up different space at the top and for Windows XP/7 the taskbar at the bottom of the screen are of different thickness as well.
Are there best practice pixel dimensions for height?
    Thanks!

@pziecina: That was tall, at least for a 768px high monitor on Windows running IE which eats up as much as 185px top and bottom in default mode.
But anyway, thanks for your input.
@JoeyD1978: That's a really nice link. Thanks a lot for it.
