(PDF) Acrobat X's "Save Optimized" Option

Hi,
When using the "Save Optimized" dialog in Adobe Acrobat X, we can see that Acrobat strips out a LOT of stuff from the document to make the size as manageable as possible. But I can't for the life of me find the checkbox corresponding to whatever it is that strips LINKS from the document.
When I use the "Save Optimized" option, then try to view the document in Reader, I can see the cursor change to a hand when it hovers over what SHOULD be a link, but there's no url attached to the link anymore. Clicking does nothing. "Save Optimized" kept the link there, but stripped the info of where the link is supposed to take the user.
Can someone tell me what to uncheck to make sure links remain intact after a "Save Optimized"?
Thanks.

  • Acrobat won't save as a Reader Enabled PDF File

    Hello Everyone,
I'm having troubles with creating an editable PDF.  What my goal is for this document I'm creating is that when I send this doc to others they can fill in their name and be able to import their logo into this document.  Because you can't create an image field, my work around is creating a signature field for where they can place their logo.  Anyhow, my problem is that as soon as I create the signature field in Acrobat, I cannot save it as a Reader Extended PDF, because all of the options are greyed out.  I've tried changing some of the security settings to allow for this, but its not working.  I just want someone to be able to open Adobe Reader and be able to use this signature box.  If there is anyone that can help I would really appreciate it.
    All the best!

    Hi m2b,
Do you sign the document before extending the features? If you do then make sure "Lock the Document after signing" checkbox is not checked. Try this:
    Clear all signature fields.
Click on the field that you want to sign
    "Sign Document" window will appear
In the left bottom corner this check box will appear.
    Uncheck it.

  • I need to able to print a pdf that is locked.  It has fields to fill in but then to save a copy I need to "print" to PDF not save as a pdf because that is not an option with the document.  Is there a way to do this?

The PDF has fields to fill in but then to save a copy I need to "print" to PDF not save as a pdf because that is not an option with the document.  Is there a way to do this?  HELP!

Sorry I thought  was just a one off, it would be no use for large volumes.
Do you not have this avaiable in the print menu in Preview with these documents?
I have also found a link on the Adobe web site that discusses that this facilty is enabled by the creater of the PDF.

If you do a web search there are various claims on how to save a protected PDF, I have'nt a way to test the proceedures. I would want a copy of any forms that I sent off, not sure why they protect them in this way, there must be a reason.

  • Can you change X Pro default settings to save all PDFs using "smallest file size" job option?

Is there a way to change Acrobat X Pro's default PDF Save settings to use the settings in Distiller's "smallest file size" job options, or adjust Acrobat's default save settings to a close match?

In Windows you select the printer in the Start>Printers menu and right click to get the properites. You can then go to the settings tab and select the smallest file size job options. When you do it in the printer settings, you have set the default. Be very careful with this choice. It typically reduces the image resolution and embeds no fonts. If you are not distributing the file, then probably not an issue. However, with distribution you risk many folks not being able to read the PDF because of strange characters and low-res image.

  • How to automate EPS to PDF using code (only Print not save as option)

    Dear All,
How to make eps image to PDF using code (either Script / .net code). only using Print Pdf (Ctrl+P) option not using save as option.
Using Saveas option it is possible to convert EPS image to PDF but it is not properly alligned like Print PDF option.
    Note: refer Attahced screen shot
    Thanks in advance,
    Abusufiyan

Probably someone else has more insight, but I think with JavaScript at least the printing-options are not fully accessible.
Anyway, in case the eps-files do contain vector-data You would probably be better off creating the pdfs from Indesign, Illustrator or with Acrobat (or Acrobat Distiller).

  • How to control save as option in a jsp whose content type is PDF

    Hi
I have one jsp in which i am showing PDF, it means it content type is PDF. I want to control save as option in it,
i.e when a user tries to save it the default name which is coming it is name of the jsp, but i want default name is dynamic which depends upon user.
I used response.setHeader(content-deposition,inline;filename=abcd.pdf) , but it doesnt work. if i use
response.setHeader(content-deposition,attachment;filename=abcd.pdf) then it is working but it straight away giving option as "U want to open or want to save it". I dont want this i want first PDF to be shown in jsp then if some one wants to save he will click on save button in PDF and there and want this option.
    Kindly help me

Don't use JSP to serve a binary file. It almost implies the use of awful scriptlets and the invocation of both the response writer and the response outputstream which would only lead to IllegalStateException headaches in the server logs.
Use a Servlet instead. Specify the file name as request parameter and let the servlet read the file and write it to the outputstream of the response.

  • Acrobat won't save any more links in a PDF. Why?

I am adding links to a PDF file. I have done several, including the index of the file. Acrobat won't save any more though. Why?

    Sara,
The Save As allows me to save the changes, but the regular save will still not function. I seem to recall a similar issue with the last version of this document, with a similar number of links.

  • Acrobat 9, shared reviews, and looking for "Save As" option

    Hello to all,
I am wondering whether you can help with an annoyance in setting up shared reviews under Acrobat 9.
Background: I first established shared reviews at my company using Acrobat 8 and our own internal WebDAV server. The setup worked, and still works, marvelously. To set up a shared review, I would select "Send for shared review", select the previously-stored server profile, request to save the file locally, give the review PDF a name, and save it. I'd then post the file to one of various locations specific to our company, and all was well.
Then the company upgraded me to Acrobat 9. Its shared-review user interface is slightly different - and contains one particularly annoying aspect. It, too, allows you to save the shared-review server address as a profile - but when you do so, you inexplicably lose the ability to choose a name or a location for the shared-review PDF. When you first set up the server, Acrobat 9 prompts you for a file name and a location - and it never does so again. Instead, any time you select the server profile, Acrobat automatically appends a "_review.pdf" suffix to the file name and saves it in the same directory as the original file. This is annoying because I almost never save the review PDFs in the same folder, and need them to have different names both in the PDF file name and on the comment server. So I really need the functionality that Acrobat 8 offered - namely, to select which file name and destination to use for the review PDF. The workaround (re-create the server profile every time) is even more annoying - we work with about 50 reviews per day, and having to retype the server address & verify it every time would get old very fast.
Does anyone know what I'd have to do to bring back Acrobat 8-style "Save As..." functionality for an existing shared-review profile in Acrobat 9?
    Thanks and best regards,
    --Michael

    > When using Save As to save a PDF, is it possible to have Commenting and Analysis enabled for that saved PDF by default?
    No.

  • Acrobat "save as" options

Anyone out there know if any Acrobat generation enables "save as" to Microsoft eReader, Mobipocket, or Stanza format?
    Thanks.
    Richard

So, if you need to show or hide the menu items depending on the current file, the only way would be to install a folder level script on any client system.
This script is loaded when the app is launched.
You can add a logic which checks the file names or uses a variable from within the forms to decide if the save menus are available or not.
Keep in mind, that this method will show/hide menu items for the entire session of the application, so a hidden menu item will be still hidden when you open a second file in a new window.
To avoid that, you script needs to check all active documents and decide what to do or not.
The work-around you actually use with the Protected Mode is unrewarding in my mind.

  • Create a PDF from webpage using entire site option doesn't works

OK, guys, this is the problem...
After YEARS of testing from Acrpbat 4 thru 9 on Create a PDF from webpage using entire site option... it doesn't works properly and doesn't got the entire site. ALWAYS get an error of memory or any other error but FINALLY you NEVER got the entire site. I'm talking for a big website... not like amazon.com, but a big one.
I make a walkarround to try to capture the website in parts but Acrobat is not "intelligent" to make a resume capture of the site, because ALWAYS start from the begining instead from the resume position of the site...
My question is, HOW can get the ENTIRE SITE in a PDF document... without getting errors or stopping the capture process...
Don't have problem of low RAM memory because I'm in a MONSTER MACINTOSH.... 3.2 GHZ with 8 Core and 32 GB of RAM under Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.6 in Acrobat 9 Pro.
If I'm not wrong, the GET ENTIRE SITE option in Web Capture (Create a PDF from webpage using entire site option) doesn't works from Acrobat 4 thru 9 in Pro version... tested, you'll never got the entire site... I'm talking in capture a huge entire site and not a little one...
    Can someone help me?
    Thanks.

Ok so I go to a web page and select something to print. Once I've clicked print I switch over from printer/micosoft xps docu writer/fax and select Adobe PDF. All goes through with a 'Create Adobe PDF' coming up progressing through to eventually save and store. Once I open the file it end up as the picture above. I have the same version on another computer and that works fine but this particular Sony laptop it doesn't seem to work properly.

  • Printing Separations - Acrobat Pro 10 not an option?

I have InDesign CS5.5 on a MAC OS X and need to print separations.  However, in the print panel, the "print to" Acrobat PDF is not available as an option, and thus, I do not get the option to print seps. Also, PostScript does not show that option either.  And since I have an inkjet printer, its drivers will not recognize separations - the reason why I need to "print to PDF" so each color sep will print, complete with spot color name. Now... I could go back to my PC and use CS4 and I think it will work... but I would rather skip that step and just use cs5.5 on my Mac. Thanks for any ASAP help.

    @bluephy.....
Have a look on the link which is the Kb article by Adobe in which it explains that the Acrobat 9.1 update will remove the Adobe pdf printer on Mac os snow lopard.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/cant-print-pdfs-mac-os.html
and on the same basis the Acrobat X doesn't create the Adobe PDF printer and also doesn't provide Adobe 10 ppd.
This is not the change that came up with the Acrobat 10 , it started with the acrobat 9.1 update.
That was the reason i went ahead and provided you the workaround wherein you can have the Acrobat 9 ppd and can make the postscript file using the Indesign Print option. Once you will distill this .ps(postscript file) using Acrobat Distiller then it will make the pdf which can be used for printing from any application that suppport PDF.
Having Acrobat X application and having the Acrobat X PPD is completely different, PPD is the driver that is used to drive the Application for printing the PDF or Postscript. However it is Acrobat X is the appliaction .
On MAC,  the print as PDF was removed and Save as PDF was introduced, The steps I gave you are the workaround just because Acobat X ppd is not there, You could use the Acrobat 9 PPD to make the postscript and then convert(Distill) it to PDF as robday posted.
When You are following the steps please be aware of these things:-
---PPD's folder you craete under the /Applications/Adobe Indesign CS5/Presets/ is Case-Sensitive.
---Download the PPD file on the desktop first.
---Once saved the file, the name of the file should be "ADPDF9.PPD" , sometime on MAC some addtional text or extension gets added automatically while downloading the file.)PLEASE CHECK THE FILENAME AND EXTENSION
---Copy the file to the Corrct folder.
--Re-open the Indesign and then check.

16bit? Pixels extending beyond the canvas? (from a crop with delete unused pixels turn off).  Have you previously been saving PSD files?
IME you sometimes have to tell Photoshop that the first save of a session is JPG, and it remembers from there on.  The way to 'tell' Photoshop that JPG, or PDF, or PNG etc are now your preferred format is to Ctrl (Cmd) click on that format in the Save As drop down list.  So long as the file does not have parameters that your chosen format does not support, then this should work for you.
[EDIT]  Just noticed that you did include 'Crop' in the subject line.  Do you have 'Delete cropped pixels' checked?

While editing a scanned pdf, Acrobat will not recognize the current font & change to very different font. How can I choose the font I want to match the current document?

Thanks for answering. The version is XI.0.10. I just did the update yesterday hoping that I could now properly edit a scanned pdf document. Yes, it's happening on most all scanned documents. I followed your steps & found the list of fonts used in the document & then attempted to edit. The same occurs. When I type in a correction, I get an error alert... "the original font (in this case Fd 5805) is not available or can't be used in editing. Acrobat is using the font Minion Pro in its place."
When I select the text & right click as you suggested, my only choices are cut, copy, delete or select all, no "edit text".
I have no other options to choose another font. Thanks for any help you can direct my way.

  • Cannot Create PDF Acrobat 9.4 Standard Windows 7, 64 bit

    Hi,
Currenlty my colleague and I have the same issue; we cannot create PDF documents using Acrobat 9.4 Standard or the office plug in, and there is no PDF printer available after the acrobat installation either.
We are both using Windows 7, 64 bit version. I have checked and confirmed Acrobat 9 on Windows 7 64 bit with Office 2007 should be compatible.
    * When using the 'Create PDF from file' feature from Acrobat we get the following error: "Unable to find "Adobe PDF" resource files. Do you want to run the installer in repair mode?"
I have run the installer in repair mode multiple times, same isssue occurs after this is done.
    * When using the Acrobat plug-in for office, for example in Word (we both use Office Professional 2007) and selecting 'Create PDF' it will prompt for a save location, after select save nothing happens, and there is no PDF file created in the save locaton.
So far I have tried the following without any success:
    - Un-installing and re-installing acrobat, multiple times
    - running the acrobat application in compatability mode for Windows XP
    - attempted to create PDF files from older word versions i.e. .doc and .docx have the same issue
    - attempted to manually install PDF printer using the acrobat installation files - did not work
    * I am aware that Office 2007 will allow me to save a document as PDF, however we still need acrobat for the publishing quality and editing features.
Any help or suggestions regarding this issue would be greatly appreciated :-)
    Kind Regards,
    Wade

I understand what you are suggesting. I have two laptops the same model. AA works on one but not the other.  I do have office 7 and a 64 bit OS.

If you are running a 64-bit version of OFFICE 2007 (if one exists), that may be the issue. AA X did not work with that version until the most recent release as I understand it. Since you have AA 9.4, I am not sure of the compatibility of it with the 64-bit version. It is strange that the printer does not appear. It seems a few others have had similar problems and as I recall, someone made a suggestion to fix that recently -- though it may have been for AA X. You might search on 64-bit or such.
