PDF file generated through PDFWriter does not open
i generate a pdf file using itext "itext-1.4.6.jar". this file opens in Acrobat reader 5,6,7. But i can not open it in Acrobat Reader 8.
Plz tell me if there is some special reason associated with itext or Acrobat Reader.
1) This is not an iText support board.
2) What's the error message?

we have a mac laptop and dont have any problems with pdf files but our imac will not open them. any suggestions?
Back up all data.
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again. -
? Some pdf files from the web will not open, some will.
Some pdf files from the web will not open, some will. I am using Adobe Reader 10.0.1 on an 8-year old puter I have just upgraded to 2G of RAM. It worked fine before with 256K. When a file won't open I get error message "There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. If it is running, please exit and try again (103:103). Have uninstalled and reinstalled all Adobe products several times. Ideas?
Good luck with that. Adobe10.0.1 is a bug infested BAD program. Look at the posts relating to this issue for the last 3 days. Many, many problems. Support is no help.

Downloaded PDF file on front end is not opening
Hi,
We have a requirement to open the Master Data Governance documents (which are stored as RAWSTRING in a DB table)
from an ALV on double click.
We are downloading the binary content(converting XSTRING to BINARY) as a file with appropriate extension onto the front end temp directory using GUI_DOWNLOAD of CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES and opening the file using method EXECUTE of the same class.
Everything is fine and documents are opening in their respective editors, expcept that a few PDF documents are not getting opened properly after downloading. Happened with an excel attachment as well.
The message "Adobe Reader could not open 'XXXXX.PDF' because it is either not a supported file type or....." appears.
Please let us know the way ahead on this issue.
We have gone through the previous SDN forums, but we did not get anything which fixes this issue.
Thanks,
Sampath.Could you post the non-working code?
Posting the rawstring may also help. -
Reading a PDF file generated through a R/3 program
is it possible ? From a portal application(PDK/WebDynpro..both in java language), could i call a RFC which generates and transfers a PDF file ?
any suggestion will be welcome!
tks!
AndréLuis,
Yes, you can do that. The RFC should generate the output in the form of bytes[].
A pointer code for doing that will look like this:
wdThis.wdGetFile_PdfCustController().getFile();
* The previous line of code gets the output from the
* suitable model attribute which contains the output
* returned by RFC.
byte[] pdfContent= wdContext.currentOutput_PrintElement().getFile();
try
IWDCachedWebResource pdfResource=
WDWebResource.getWebResource(pdfContent,WDWebResourceType.RTF);
IWDWindow newWindow= wdComponentAPI.getWindowManager
().createExternalWindow(pdfResource.getURL
(), "ResultView", true);
newWindow.open();
catch (Exception ex)
wdComponentAPI.getMessageManager().reportException
(ex.getMessage());

Clicking on PDF files on the internet does not download with file extension
When I click on a PDF link it downloads the file but does not save it as a ".pdf" file extension. When using the "save as" function in mozilla the ".pdf" file extension is included.
Current Firefox versions have enabled a built-in PDF Viewer that doesn't have all features that other PDF readers like the Adobe Reader have or may not function properly otherwise.
You can change the action for Portable Document Format (PDF) from Preview in Firefox to use another application like the Adobe Reader or set to Always Ask in "Firefox > Options/Preferences > Applications".
You can set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable the build-in PDF viewer.
You can check the value of the plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types pref on the about:config page and remove the application/pdf part if present or reset the pref to the default via the right-click context menu.

PDF files smaller than 8K will not open in IE 6.0
Hi,
I am using Adobe reader 8.1.3 and IE 6.0.0.
I have an unusual situation where only pdf files LARGER than 8k will open in the browser. Anything small than 8k will not.
This seems to be an issue with pdf files only as I am able to open other file types that are less than 8k with no problems.
All of the files reside on a server and are accessible via a web page.
If I login to the hosting server directly I am able to open them just fine regardless of the file size.
I need this to work in IE as that is the only browser that is supported. DOD site.
Any thoughts or suggestions as how to resolve the problem.

PDF files from Reader-X do not open in Photoshop
Now that I updated my Adober reader -x I can not open the PDF files I save in my Photoshop-2 program. Any thoughts. . . . other than upgrading Photoshop? Is it possible to reload the former version of Adobe reader in lieu of the reader-X?
You can still download Reader 9.5 from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
The 9.5.1 update is available from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5353
Note that you must uninstall Reader X before you can install an older version. -
Downloading a pdf file from javascript() window does not work
PDF download/view works fine where the link points to actual pdf file. But I have problem downloading/viewing pdf files that are loaded using javascript(), e.g. bank statements and such. When I click a link FF downloads a file which either has no extension or has a different one (not .pdf).
Later I realized that I can manually rename the downloaded file to insert .pdf extension and open it in reader.
How can I solve this? I don't have this problem when using IE or Chrome.
ThanksCould you try a new profile?
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Creating a profile":
https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox
If it still happens with a new and clean profile then the most likely cause is that you have security software that is blocking this JavaScript. -

I recently downloaded acrobat reader dc. After download was complete, I could not open PDF files. Error read "Adobe acrobat reader DC could not open this file because its either not a supported file or the file has been damaged". Any suggestions?
HI davidd92392148,
Is this error occurring for all PDF files that you try to open? There is an issue where all file icons can change to the PDF icon after installation, so is it possible that the files you're trying to open have been affected by this issue (and aren't actually PDF files)? Please see Application, file icons change to Acrobat/Reader icon.
If that document isn't the key, then please tell us more about these files. Where are they stored? Did they open in previous versions of Reader?
Best,
Sara
