PDF for the Arch Wiki?

Hello, I would like to suggest the arch wiki would have a pdf version so that users with no present connection can just read the pdf if they are up to something...Would it be nice?  I know that the wiki is constantly updated but we can release updated versions monthly or weekly of the pdf containing the latest updates...:)

Any body can wget the whole wiki recursively(excluding the external pages/user pages, talk etc) and tar it up and upload it on some file sharing site.
Wont that be much better than having this discussion over and over?
tomk wrote:The wiki, like most Arch things, is a community effort. If you, and possibly others, would like to take on the task of converting the wiki to pdf, and keeping the pdfs in sync as the wiki changes, please go ahead. If others are interested, maybe they will post here. The arch dev team contributes to the wiki like everyone else, but we certainly wouldn't have the time to do this alongside our existing work.
There are many who wish their ideas to get implemented but few who are working .......
I would like to have the wiki in pdf, i am going to try to make a pdf version, but u_no_hu you also could try something yourself? The community is there for you and you are there for the community, you also could help with bugtracing, bug fixing, community projects (yaourt), working on the wiki, every program that is use and isn't in the Wiki i'll try to add a wiki about it

  • Looking for addition articles for the Arch Linux Press Review wikipage

    Good day all,
I recently updated the Arch Linux Press Review wikipage, found here:
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Arc … ess_Review
If you know of any additional reviews or articles about Arch Linux, please edit the wiki page or post the info as a reply.
Any contributions for non-English language articles, or corrections in that area, would be especially appreciated.
    Thank you,

Thanks tlaloc! I transferred that list of articles over to the Arch Press Review wikipage under the German Language section, and included a link back to the German original. I also fixed a tiny spelling error in the German page. I also doublechecked all the links to make sure they are live. As the French would day, "J'encule les moustiques"

  • How to create a pdf for the URL attached to an invoice and send it as an attachment in a mail

    HI,
I have requirement where i need to get the URL attached to an invoice, create the pdf and send as an attachement in a mail.
The URL attached to an invoice can be seen by following the path : VF03-> Billing document->system->Services for object ->Attachement list.
On searching through existing forums, i found that there is a table 'SRGBTBREL' which stores relationships of GOS object. On giving the invoice number in field 'INSTID_A', i could find an entry in this table.
To get the content, i used the class CL_FITV_GOS, method GET_CONTENT. To this method i passed following values:
IV_ATTA_ID = FOL21000000000521URL39000000000012 (The value if field INSTID_B from table SRGBTBREL)
    IV_OBJTP   = 'URL'
On execution, i get URL link but the content table is empty.
Could anybody provide some input on how i get the content? Or may be how i can create pdf from the URL link and attach it to mail as an attachment?
    Thanks,

    Hi Amit,
Solution provided by you is working when the link length is one line but it is not working for more than one line
Eg: say link is https://......80 [80 characters long]
I will give    <a href="https://...72            [in first line]
                     73..80">click here</a>         [in second line]
I will get the output as 73...80">click here
But i want only CLICK HERE in my output..
    Please suggest solution.
    Thanks,
    Kavya

  • Creating a PDF for the printers shop

    Hi Guys.
I'm currently trying to design an annual report for our company and this is the first time, I'm trying to make it on my own.
The biggest problem is, that our printers shop uses an older version of Adobe InDesign. So they are not able to open my file. They gave me the advice to make a PDF out of InDesign. Therefore I have two questions.
1.) In InDesign you've got the option of printing a brochure. In this case, InDesign is sending all pages to the printer in the correct order. So if you have more than just two pages, you'll get the pages in the way they should fit, if you want to bind them. How do I reach the same effect by exporting the pages?
2.) If I export my pages to PDF, what settings do I have to take to get the same result as the printers shop, if they would get the InDesgin-File to print directly out of InDesign? You know, I want to get the same quality on the paper.
Hope you can help me and ... please, if you find any mistakes in grammar or orthography, please forgive me.

    Hi,
thanks for your answers so far.
The printer did not ask me for an imposed PDF. He just told me, that he can't open my ID-File because he would have an older version of ID. But he told me, that I could send him a PDF. I now asked him via eMail wether he can print out of a PDF in the same quality an of course in right order of the pages or not. I think, he can put the pages in the correct order. The only question is what settings I have to chose for exporting our report. I also noticed the other settings but I can't actually see the differences, even if they are explained in my own language.
Ok. I guess I have to wait for the answer of our printer.

  • Web based IRC for the Arch Linux channel

Would it be possible for someone to set up the Arch linux IRC channel to be viewable on a Firefox webpage in the same way the Frugalware guys do?
    http://frugalware.org/irc.php
It could be really useful to those not familiar with IRC.  And it doesn't look that hard to do
A link could then be put on the home page to get there quickly.

CGI:IRC is really practical, if you are on-the-road (= not on your machine) but want to inform some people over chat on something important
i had it running in an earlier version on my old machine to chat with my family when on holidays ... but the installation was pain ... however, i see that this piece of code evolved much and looks really great now
i don't decide for archlinux.org but you have my vote ;-)

  • Licenses, Copyright and the Arch Wiki

I've written a wiki article explaining how to enable font anti-aliasing in Java apps and how to switch away from the default font, Lucida, that Java apps use. Unfortunately, it describes procedures for the closed(?) source Sun JRE.
I've included a 6 line snippet from the file /opt/java/jre/lib/fontconfig.properties.src. Three of those included lines are
    # @(#)linux.fontconfig.properties 1.2 03/10/28
    # Copyright 2003 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All rights reserved.
I've attempted to read the icense agreements that accompany the Sun JRE. I get simultaneously put to sleep and repulsed by the legalese.
Before I post the article, and hoping to prevent bad things, are there any guidelines for this.  I think my use of the code snippet and the procedures I give are covered under "fair use."
Or, to whom should I send the article for review?
    IANAL -- I Am Not A Lawyer.
Anal? Yes, at times. A lawyer? No.

Oh, I'm old! I just now remembered why the file bothered me. I print a copy of the file, just pointing to different fonts.
The edited version is simply an emended version of the original. Which it has to be considering the files are config files. Where the original has 20 lines similar to these:
    serif.plain.latin-1=-b&h-lucidabright-medium-r-normal--*-%d-*-*-p-*-iso8859-1
    serif.bold.latin-1=-b&h-lucidabright-demibold-r-normal--*-%d-*-*-p-*-iso8859-1
    serif.italic.latin-1=-b&h-lucidabright-medium-i-normal--*-%d-*-*-p-*-iso8859-1
    I have this:
    serif.plain.latin-1=-misc-dejavu serif-medium-r-normal-*-*-%d-*-*-p-*-iso8859-1
    serif.bold.latin-1=-misc-dejavu serif-bold-r-normal-*-*-%d-*-*-p-*-iso8859-1
    serif.italic.latin-1=-misc-dejavu serif-medium-i-normal-*-*-%d-*-*-p-*-iso8859-1
I suppose the best thing to do is to note the original copyright in the second file.  You would have a hard time setting up any config file without doing copying.
I'm done. Thanks for helping me think this through.

  • I can't open the PDF for the free install since both my emails did not come with a password. Did anyone else have this problem???

I purchased 2 new Macs, 1 a Mac Air 13" loaded and an iMac for my wife. I received 2 sets of emails, one with the code and the other with the PDF. When I tried to install last night, I would open the PDF and it asked for a password. I checked both sets of emails, which Aopple sent me 2 sets 3 days apart, and neither one had anything looking like a password. I called Apple Care and they said that it was on the sheet under the Thank hyou from Apple...NOT! She then said they would resend the emails again and hopefully have the password this time. Has anyone had this issue??????

Apparently it's related to the Firefox plug in.
This isn't exactly a solution but more of a way to avoid opening PDFs with Firefox's plug in.
    1. Highlight "Tools" from the Menu Bar in the top left of the screen (or click "Options" if using the Firefox Compact Menu)
    2. Select to "Options
    3. Select "Applications"
    4. Look for "Adobe Acrobat Document" under Content Type and to the right under Action select "Use Adobe Reader (default)" instead of the using Adobe Acrobat in Firefox
    5. Open a test PDF. It should open in it's own window now.
Again, not a complete solution but something that'll at least let you scroll with PDFs open.

  • Where do I find Adobe User Manuals and books in PDF for the iPad?

I'm standing in line waiting to get the new iPad 2 and have been looking for Adobe user manuals, classroom in a book series et. al., and nothing seems to be available for download to the iPad.
Is this true for now? When will ebooks from adobe become available?
I can't believe there is nothing yet.
I must be looking in all the wrong places, Amazon, Adobe site, Google... nothing.
    Please help,
    TIA,
    Ken

Classroom in a Book is published by Peachpit/Pearson. I went to them to ask and here's what I got:
    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-text&field-keywords=%22cs5+classroom+in+a+book%22&x=0&y=0
Also, we sell all of our current books on Peachpit.com as
watermarked PDFs, which users can easily transfer to their iPad (or just about
any other device that supports PDF). Of course, that also applies to any Help
file or other documentation PDF that a user might download from Adobe Help and
    Support.
Also see this screenshot for CIBs in the iBookstore.
(You have to search for something like "CS5 Classroom in a Book").

    Hi Rob,
Someone would have to decide which articles are good.
If it was an individual who did that then they could have some personal bias - intentionally or unintentionally.
Or they could potentially be accused of some personal bias.
The competition uses a panel of people to rate each article in the monthly competition.
You can see previous months results and of course those articles entered in the competition are usually the best efforts of the authors and hence pretty good.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/wikininjas/archive/2014/12/17/the-microsoft-technet-guru-awards-november-2014.aspx
Substitute other months and years in a search.
    " technet wiki guru november 2014 "
There's a page with all the results somewhere as well but, personally, I like to see all the entries.
The criteria the judges use might be different from your own.
If you have a particular area of interest then ( presumably that would be in wpf ) then ask.
    Hope that helps.

  • It's time for the TechNet Wiki Visio "Great Guru Love-in"! You too can get some loving!

February at TechNet Wiki usually involves a lot of love...
    We love to read.
    We love to learn.
We love our gurus, for they love to give.
We love to make friends and promote great content.
We love to meet the community, and get closer to you.
We love to interview our winners, and bestow much love and honor upon them.
We love to tell the world of your achievements, and we promote those most active to inner circles!
All you have to do is add an article to TechNet Wiki from your own specialist field. Something that fits into one of the categories listed on the submissions page. Copy in your own blog posts, a forum solution, a white paper, or just something
you had to solve for your own day's work today.
Drop us some nifty knowledge, or superb snippets, and become MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY GURU OF THE MONTH!
This is an official Microsoft TechNet recognition, where people such as yourselves can truly get noticed!
    HOW TO WIN
    1) Please copy over your Microsoft technical solutions and revelations to
    TechNet Wiki.
    2) Add a link to it on
THIS WIKI COMPETITION PAGE (so we know you've contributed)
NOTE: For Visio, please post your solutions in the Miscellaneous category!
    3) Every month, we will highlight your contributions, and select a "Guru of the Month" in each technology.
If you win, we will sing your praises in blogs and forums, similar to the
weekly contributor awards. Once "on our radar" and making your mark, you will probably be
interviewed for your greatness, and maybe eventually even invited into other inner TechNet/MSDN circles!
Winning this award in your favoured technology will help us learn the active members in each community.
Feel free to ask any questions below.

"How much more of this wiki junk do we need?"
Well, probably proportionate to the forum junk, gallery junk, and blog junk!
With MSDN and TechNet Blogs, Microsoft employees have the opportunity to post solutions. And instead of having to answer the same question each time, you can just link to the blog!
Similarly, the Gallery gives the opportunity to post the code and host it in a nice download. Then you just link to the Gallery item instead of re-writing similar code in the forums!
And Wiki brings the blog capability to the community! Not only can you write up a nice solution and just link to it each time, but you can also team together with the rest of the community to build a great solution!
