PDF Import filter for PM6.5

I'm using PM 6.5 with XP. I've installed the PDF import filter as directed. Under "Place" PDF is still not recognized nor does it show as an option when further attempts to place. It also does not show in the list of filters under CTRL-"About PageMaker" in the Help menu.
Requirements mention Windows NT. XP is not mentioned. Has anyone been able to get this to work with XP?  If so what might I be doing wrong?

Sounds like the PDF import filter is missing, but it will only import very early PDF versions - 1.3?
You can install the import filter from your installation CD-ROM using the Custom installation option.

  • Import filter for Pagemaker does not support non-english charcters in references

    Hi all,
we found that when importing from Pagemaker, all referenced images that contain non-english charcters (such as German umlauts) in their file names are lost. Apart from this, the direct import works quite well for us, therefore we would like to use this workflow if we can find a solution for the lost images. In some chapters, 95% of the images are imported correctly, in others almost all are lost.
Is there anything we can do about this? If we rename the images (exchange problematic characters by fixed string), is it possible to correct the references in PM with some sort of search&replace function? These are really a lot of images, so doing it manually would be a bad option.

I found out how to do it.
For the benefit of others who might encounter this or similar filename issues, it would be nice to know the root cause.
On what operating system (and when) were the filename originally created?
(and what version of PM was used)
On what OS, and with what version of FM are you trying to import the PM file?
I presume that there is no issue with the filenames per se under the OS, but just during FM import?
My guess would be that PM is using some legacy encoding for references to file names that include extended latin characters, and that encoding does not translate at FM import.

  • Pdf import impossible in iWork 2.0

I received iWork some days ago, and tried a few experiments…As word docs could open easily in iWork, I have been unable to import pdf files. I have Acrobat Pro 7.05 Professional, with which all these documents open, and which some have been made with Acrobat.
In the box, all pdf files are grayed…
I sent yesterday a message to Apple about that fact, which I consider as a bug.
Anyone succeded in imprt of pdf?
    Thanks for any clue

You cannot "open" a PDF file and edit it as your main document. That is not what the PDF format is for. You will notice that even with Adobe Acrobat there are very strong limitations on what modifications you can make to that mostly static file format.
However, you can "insert" the first page of a PDF file into a Pages document as an image. (Insert > Choose... or just drag the PDF onto an open Pages document.)

  • How do you filter for photos with develop adjustments?

I wanted to put this information out there, because it was difficult for me to find an answer to the question of "how do you quickly filter for photos that have develop adjustments?"
Some earlier posts in this forum observe that a smart collection has the ability to filter files wherein "has adjustments" is "true." Yes, it can do that. And it can also add in a "date" parameter for more specific targeting. But it cannot simply say, "in the current folder," or "in the selected folder." And frankly, that's the exact situation when I need to filter down to the files I want: I'm in a folder—typically the current folder that I've just imported—and I've done a smattering of develop adjustments. Now, I want to quickly select just those images for export. Can't be done, not with a Smart Collection, anyway.
But Lightroom is nothing if not deep, and if you approach the problem from a filtering standpoint, it will eventually get you there—but the solution is very non-obvious. Expose the filter bar, with your favorite preset: camera info, default columns... it doesn't really matter. Hover over the header bar and to the far right will become visible the "add column" widget. Add a column. From the pop-up menu on the name will come a long list of options, the second-to-last of which is "develop preset." Once that's in place, click on "custom." Save your current settings as a new preset and give it a descriptive name like "adjusted images."
Now, when you're in your current—or any—folder, just click on "metadata" in the filter bar, and your custom preset will be in effect: any images that you've worked on will be selected. It's a fast, one-click selection.
If there's another way of doing this (keep in mind it's for the selected or current folder only), let me know. It's such a seemingly desirable action that I'm kind of astounded there's no built-in or easy or obvious way to do it... or that no photographer has requested it.

I am honored to have a response from Rikk "MVP" Flohr, and I do readily agree that your approach is one way to approach the issue. It puts the relevant images in a discrete area that is easy to access. However (this is where I look a gift horse in the mouth) I find "sorts" a bit underwhelming in comparison to "filtering." Two problems: first, the sort still does not 'clear your deck' of unwanted images. You still have to squint at the badges and carefully select the range at the top (or bottom). Mistakes can be made (and I would be the first to make them). Second, the sort command is "sticky," meaning that folder will always have that sort unless you undo it. In general, I think most photographers want to see a folder's images sorted by capture time, so they can easily glance to the beginning, middle, and end of the shoot. With my method, once you click out of the folder, the filter is taken away and you're back to normal.
I do understand that Lightroom wants me to flag my images with rankings or stars or colors or dancing beavers or what-have-you. But in this particular situation, that's an extra step. If I've applied development adjustments, it's already done. Why shouldn't I be able to choose "Select Developed Photos" from the Edit menu, right under "Select Flagged Photos"?

  • Editing multipage PDF in Illustrator for print service bureau

I have a series of 4-page PDFs that I've edited in Illustrator and resaved back into the original files, which were created in Quark (not by me, and the Quark files are not available). My client will have these printed by a professional service bureau, so I want to be sure there'll be no problems with the files I send them. If I outline all fonts, is there anything else I should be aware of?
    Thanx for any help.

This depends on your service bureau, adn if they prefer .ai files or .pdf files.
The advantge to a .pdf file is that the service bureau prints the file as is, and it is quick for them.
The advantage to .ai, is that the service bureau has more control over the file, and have more power to make changes and they can get your job done right if they want to put the time into imaging this.
I would consult your service bureau for which PDF compression works best for them. The most important thing is that you comb over your file prior to making a .pdf to check for things(eg: are blacks using consistlently the same CMYK breakdown, do you want rich blacks of 60c 40my 100K, is everything bold or thin enough, etc).

  • File Filter for a Jlist

I'm new to filtereing, ive been looking on site and this one, but can't quite get round the filtering process.
Most filter examples I've seen are for Filechooser, but this program is a Jlist.
I wish to show only one file type, namely an AVI format.
    Can anyone help

I tried FileFilter, but the system wouldn'y excpt

Would it be directly related to the file only.Just how did you try "FileFilter"? You know that you have to implement one first, don't you?

  • Pdf import: making bkg NOT transparent

I'm trying to place pdf pages in Keynote and parts of them are coming up transparent (most were created in Quark or Illustrator). Is there a way in Keynote to set the bkg color to white for the placed graphic? I know we can paste a white block or page behind the graphic either in Keynote or within the program which created it, but I'd rather not add an extra step or two.
Is there a way to have the contents of an image box both display the image AND have a non-transparent colored background?
    Thanks! - j
      Mac OS X (10.4.10)

If they were created in Quark and you exported directly from Quark to PDF, then any transparencies are still not flattened. If you have Acrobat 7.x or newer you can use PDF Optimizer (advanced menu/optimize PDF) and look for an option called "Flatten transparency", Select the values you require (ie: Low end for web, high end for print) and then optimize the file. Once it is done, do NOT save as, simply close and you will have no more transparent backgrounds. You can do the same in Illustrator before the files are imported into Quark or saved as PDF's. The other alternative is to make sure that Quark picture boxes have a fill of 'white' or '0% black', then writing PS instead of PDF and distilling it to create your PDF. Postscript does not support transparancies, so it flattens any it sees while creating the PS file, then the resulting PDF (after distilling) is flattened and you don't need to optimize it.
    Good luck.
The above assumes that you have image in the white areas, not simply blank space. Blank space is blank space, you would need to draw white boxes behind everything (What a pain!)

  • How to create Import format for building  version Hirerarchy and Node

    Hi
i Want to know  how to create  Import format for building version  Hirerarchy and Nodes. Can anyone  show me with example  or format  for version  Hierarchy  with few nodes for the hierarchy
i Want to Build   this   1. Version1 (Version)
                                     2.Account (Hirerarchy)
                                     3. Balancesheet (Limb)
                                     4. Assets (Limb)
                                     5. Cash (Leaf)
    Thanks,

Please follow the DRM User Guide,
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/drm_user.pdf
Below is my preferred approach, by selecting only relation and Hierarchy sections,
The relation section contains the Node Name and Parent Name ( you can include any other properties, but as a best practice keep the Parent Node as the last column).
The Hierarchy ( Hier ) section contains the Hierarchy Name, Top Node and Hierarchy description
Follow the Import steps and provide a Name for the version.
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    [relation]
    AC_BalanceSheet AC_Account
    AC_Asset AC_Account
    AC_Cash AC_Account
    [hier]
    Account AC_Account AccountHier
    ++++++++++++++++++++++
Note: Please delete all the special characters (TAB) created at the end of  [relation] and [hier] sections while you copy the content from an Excel sheet to a Notepad.

  • PDF9.0 Printer creates no PDF or asks for Distiller to use

    Hello!
I have different cases in which the PDF-Printerdriver (CS4) is not creating PDF-Files especially from Quark 8.1. System is 10.5.8:
One case is that the print dialog asks for Distiller -  which is installed but cannot be choosed (grayed out). We could solve this issue with taking the older PDF8.0 PPD - hmm.
The next case is that the Job comes up in the printing queue - but than stops. There is no way to get it out successfully.
One other case is: The Job comes up in the printing queue - disappears there and we have no pdf in the choosed folder.
Then we have a message in the Disitller Crash log: Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
    Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000000
Things we found and tried while we are searching for a solution were:
    1. Changed owner and user rights of the cups driver in: /usr/libexec/cups/backend/pdf9.0  to  root/wheel and 755
    2. Installed a new Cups-Filter for QuarkXPress as described in the attached picture.
    Please help!
    Greetings Ingo.

    Welcome to the forums.
You have to use the encoder, it supports AVI, but only on the Windows platform. Why are you using AVI on the Mac platform?
For DVD options, see: Exporting to DVD, Blu-ray Disc, or CD in the PPro Help.
You will also find links to many free tutorials in the PremiereProPedia that will quickly show you how things are done in Premiere Pro.

    Hello,
i want to import an ascii-file to diadem7.02 and want to save it as an .DAT-File.
i do this with Fileload and with the ascii-import filter. My problem is, when i want to record a autosequence, and i open the ascii-import filter und push the Ctrl-A key, it doesn´t record this window in the autosequence.
Is this unpossible in DIAdem or have anyone a solution for it.

Thank you Brad for your help,
but this solution is only for Diadem 8 and i have version 7.02.
I have hardly experience in Diadem 8 and nothing in vbs-programming so i had to solve this problem in Diadem 7.

  • PDF or HTML for mobile Technical Documentation and Newsletters

    Hi,
I've been reviewing the pros and cons for PDF and HTML for mobile technical documentation and newsletters and wanted to get your honest thoughts on this.
    Here's the scenario:
I need to create  mobile technical documenation and newsletters that are interactive, i.e. video, commenting/annotating, links, forms, etc.
Given how the mobile publishing market is rapidly evolving, what is the most practical format, (with minimum format issues) to use for both short term and long term?  PDF or HTML?  Why?
Based on your choice, which format would you use for non-interactive documents that offers the most creative options and usability?  Why?
    Paul

Hyper Text Markup Language ( HTML ) is going to work better.  Mainly because the way mobile is setup, the interface has to conform to the device and with the other elements coded into the interface, HTML is far better.  You keep referring to usability, so even in non-interactive scenarios in mobile documentation, you're better off using HTML.
