PDF.js removing PDF security

I am facing similar problems as discussed in the below mentioned forum post
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1014746
PDF.js is not considering the enabled PDF security. The functionality what i want to achieve is to control the print to file option using tools like CutePDF. If a user tries to print the PDF to a file and PDF is created by setting encryption is opened in Adobe reader, the saved PDF will be blank. But this is not happening in PDF.js and it is saving the content of the PDF. Can this be handled in PDF.js?

I am hearing you say that you do not want it to print the content and you want the security to create the page blank. It looks like it should handle security according to the bug mentioned. [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=792816#c12]

  • Removing PDF Security Settings ??

    Hello;
    1) Out of curiosity, an expert responded earlier to a post in this forum suggesting that one can remove the PDF security settings by using Adobe Acrobat (NOT Adobe Reader).
    Is that true ??
    2) If I distribute a Read-only, password-protected, Blocked PDF file:
    ..a. Can someone with average knowledge of Adobe products easily remove the security settings of the file ??
    ..b. ONLY those with advanced knowledge can do that.  Correct ??
    ..c. Can someone with only the free Adobe Reader unlock the file and disable the password protection ??
    3) I'm sure someone must have posted here or on the internet a step-by-step how-to !!
    Password protection of VBA, Word, Excel, etc. documents are known to be unreliable, and I suppose the same can be said about PDF.
    Any comments ??
    Monir
    PS. If the topic is a bit sensitive, please reply by a PM. Thank you.

    1. Correct. Reader cannot remove security but Acrobat can (if they have the password).
    2.(a): I wouldn't say "average but it can be done quite easily
    (b.) Not really
    (c.)No. Reader cannot remove security
    3. Basically without using some sort of Digital Rights Management, nothing is secure. There are free applications that can remove security and other PDF readers may even ignore it to begin with.
    So if you absolutely need security, studay up on Digital Rights Management and get out the checkbook because it isn't cheap by a long shot.

  • Stamps being removed after securing the pdf document

    I'm having a problem with the whitebox stamps that I use to white out names on a pdf being removed after the document is secured through a custom batch process. After insterting the stamps that white out what I want I save the document and when I open it again the white box stamps are still there. Once I secure the same document and open it the stamps are removed. Other computers using the same batch process and version of acrobat do not have this issue.
    Any theories would be much appreciated.

    So I have installed Acrobat 8.0 Pro and used the redaction tool which for some reason was keeping a line showing of the white box I was trying to use to remove some content. Also I put the batch process I was using to secure the document doesn't show up when I go into the Batch Processing menu, neither do any of the default ones show up. It just has an option to create a new process.

  • How can I remove PDF password?

    Hi guys, recently I've got a really annoying problem at work. Some of my PDFs can not be copyed, edited or printed. I know that's because they're secured but how can I remove the password? Any idea to work out the problem?

    Hello,
    As there is no any C# solution ,I would like to psot some sample codes to achieve this.
    using Spire.Pdf;
    using Spire.Pdf.Security;
    namespace modify_PDF_passwords
    class Program
    static void Main(string[] args)
    //load a encrypted file and decrypt it
    String encryptedPdf = @"..\Encrypt.pdf";
    PdfDocument doc = new PdfDocument(encryptedPdf, "e-iceblue");
    //reset PDF passwords and set user password permission
    doc.Security.OwnerPassword = "Spire.PDF";
    doc.Security.UserPassword = "pdfcomponent";
    doc.Security.Permissions = PdfPermissionsFlags.Print | PdfPermissionsFlags.FillFields;
    //Save pdf file.
    doc.SaveToFile("Encryption.pdf");
    doc.Close();
    //Launching the Pdf file.
    System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("Encryption.pdf");
    Anyway ,it is a PDF component based solution,which works pretty fine for me.

  • PDF Optimizer Removes Lines for Arrows & Circles

    I'm using Acrobat 9 Pro for Mac.  I've created documents that need  arrows & circles around certain images, & have created PDF's from those docs.  I need to optimize those PDF's to reduce the filesize, but in doing so, the PDF Optimizer removes the lines from the arrows & circles, leaving just the beginning & ending points.  Here's an example of before/after optimizing:
    I've changed just about every setting in the PDF Optimizer, but it still removes the lines.  What am I missing here?
    Thanks for your help!

    I'm afraid I initially missed your "I've changed just about every setting in the PDF Optimizer," and don't have the expertise to take this much further.  I assume you added your circles and arrows with Acrobat 9's commenting tools.  If so, a desperate measure might be to flatten them, as discussed by Dov Isaacs a few times, most recently with regard to "Typewriter Objects," over in the InDesign forum, but I'm getting out of my depth.
    Good luck,

  • How to create a pdf document with specific security settings

    Hallo,
    in Adobe Acrobat you can set security settings which make documents unprintable, unchangeable etc.
    What I want to do is: I want to set these security settings by creating the pdf-document, because I do not want to open every document and change the security settings. Is this possible at all???
    Thank you for help
    Elisabeth

    How are you creating the documents? If using Adobe PDF printer, use the security options in Adobe PDF printer settings. If using PDFMakers (Acrobat buttons inside Office applications, open the Preferences menu item and set security there)

  • PDF Viewer - remove files

    Thought is was the file that caused the failures downloaded lost of files, as soon as I open them and try to zoom in - failure
    Question is how do I remove pdf files from viewer?
    Post relates to: Pre p100ueu (O2)

    I agree that not being able to delete documents "on the fly" is a little (maybe a lot!) clunky. Hopefully this ability (and a better PDF viewer) will be included in an update soon.

    Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
    This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
    If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
    Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
    Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
    The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
    Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
    Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
    from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
    In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
    Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
    Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
    Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
    Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
    Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • PDF Properties/Document Protection/Security/show details. List differs from Document Restriction Summary.

    Hello
    I have a number of PDFs that have user permissions.  When the files are opened in Adobe Reader the document's restriction summary lists differ and the form cannot be used as intended.
    Example  Open PDF Properties /Document Protection/ Security/ Show Details                                                    Properties/ Document Restriction/Security/Summary (I have changed
                                                                                                                                                                         the order to make easier for comparison.)
    Doc. Open Password         NO
    Permissions Pass Word    YES
    Printing High Resolution     YES ......................................................................................... .....................................................YES
    Changing the Document     ALLOWED ........................................................................................... ..........................................NOT ALLOWED
    Commenting                     ALLOWED.......................................................................................... ............................................NOT ALLOWED
    Form Fill-in and Sign          ALLOWED ......................................................................................... ........................................... Fill ALLOWED........ Sign NOT ALLOWED
    Document Assembly         ALLOWED............................................................................................ ..........................................NOT ALLOWED
    Content Copying                NOT  ALLOWED.................................................................................. ............................................NOT ALLOWED
    Accessibility                      ENABLED.................................................................................. ....................................................YES  (Content copy for Accessibility)
    Page Extraction                 NOT ALLOWED.................................................................................. ............................................NOT ALLOWED
    Template                           NOT SPECIFIED................................................................................ .............................................NOT ALLOWED.
    I am mystified why the two lists differ and the document when in use seems to be controlled by the list on the right, which takes away some of the user rights.
    Is there an explanation for this. I would have thought that as the documents were password protected for permissions such as commenting and signing Adobe Reader could not change this.
    Eric.

    Yes, thats right. I used Open Office 3 to generate the pdf. I have also tried using pdftk and Adobe Distiller 5 with the same result.
    Your statement implies, the 'Adobe Reader' features cannot be fully utilized without a valid Adobe Acrobat Pro.
    This is a document to which I have the source. I have been able to create the pdf with the required set of permissions based on standards. But I am being hassled because I didn't generate it with Adobe Pro! Well, I suppose this must have been a business decision, but its one thats standards contrary and morally low!
    Adobe just lost an avid Reader user. I shall circulate my findings within my work and social circles. Thanks to competition and open source, I am sure to find a standards compliant reader without much delay.
    Thanks for your help - graffiti

  • How to remove pdf files inside ibooks on mavericks OS

    Hi, I tried to delete PDF files in iBooks on Macbook Pro Mavericks OS , but it is also deleting in source file.
    how to remove PDF's in ibooks without deleting source file. please help
    regards,
    bpk

    I've not long worked out how to do basic things on my iMac but have had some coaching on other forums, as it goes this happened to me this morning.
    Inadvertently, I managed to get all pdfs into ibooks and faced similar "delete" problem, couldn't drag the files out of ibooks either: Accidentally I found all ibooks info in a library through finder, took a while but right clicking "move to trash"  got rid of them but not from pages/documents!
    Re-opening ibooks initially showed the pdfs still in place, except after double clicking one a message appeared telling me the file could not be opened, then immediately the remaining books were shuffled and pdfs disappeared - still in documents though, and able to open.
    Hope this helps, there may well be an easier way...
