PDF Output: Why is "PDF Review" styled different than "Generate PDF"?

I am new to RH.  I have imported a folder of HTML files (used in an Eclipse Help plugin) into RH9 for HTML as a project. My goal is to produce a PDF document.
When I generate a PDF from Printed Documentation in the Single Source Layouts pad, many styles are incorrect. I've tried generating to Word and from there to PDF with the same effect.
However, when I use Create PDF for Review from Project Manager the styles shown in the PDF (fonts, alignment, etc) are nearly perfect! Is the PDF Review option using a different CSS?
I have tried exploring the CSS specified in the Generate PDF flow, but I am unable to make changes, perhaps due to my massive state of confusion.  So I'm losing hope that I could manually tweak to CSS that I think I use in the Generate PDF flow to appear like the "PDF Review" flow. I specified the same CSS used in the Eclipse Help system, but evidently there must be some defaults built into the Eclipse viewer that are not specified in the CSS we use.
Thanks in advance,
Charly in SJ

Here's what I think is happening. You say PDF review is good but printed documentation gives wrong styles. You also say you assume PDF review uses the Stylesheet (CSS) for each topic, yes it does. Now if that is giving the correct styles it tells you that is what you need when you generate printed documentation.
When you use a Word template you will get very different styles unless you have set up the template to mirror your CSS. Using the Map to CSS option you have two choices, you can select None when each topic will be printed according to the CSS attached to the topic or you can select one of the CSS files available in the project.
I suspect that if you select the None option, you will get the same as you are seeing in the PDF review.
If your document is not going to be worked on by anyone, such as a training department using it as a based document, then the CSS options are fine. If others will be working on it, then the Word template option is better as lists will be true lists and headings will be true heading styles.

  • Why is the INVOICE date different than the ORDER date?

Something odd is happening... I'm receiving workflow notifications from Business Catalyst for Invoices, but sometimes the date of the order is the day before I receive the invoice. This is causing havoc on the shipping side because when I print out the invoice packing slips and export the order files, they don't match up and sometimes customers get missed.
Any idea why the invoice date would be different than the order date and how do I fix it to make them the same?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hey there,
An invoice is not an order. That is an important thing to know.
An order is generated through a few means but mainly as soon as one product is added to a cart - that order exists and the date marked. An invoice is a purchase and comes from an order.
Create an order in the admin yourself and save it but add no invoice number. You can see you just made an order and you will see the button to generate invoice.
API can make an order and no invoice, a person can add items to cart and finish it the next day if they have their session open that long... Lots of reasons why these dates may differ.

  • PDF font viewed Evince different than actual PDF font?

The title says it all. I'm getting a very strange girly font (no offense, but the i's are dotted with hearts) being rendered for all the text on the PDF. Some PDFs that I view in Evince retain their original font. I have no idea why this is happening, and neither do I have this font on my computer. I am so definitely sure about that. Does anyone have ideas?
I'm using Gnome3 if that matters any.
    Thanks in advance!

Have you tried a different pdf viewer?  Gimp or inkscape can view pdf files or pages.  Epdfview is a lightweight, less feature-full alternative to Evince.
It might help to identify the font.  You probably have the poppler package installed.  If so, you can use 'pdffonts' to list the fonts used in the problem file.  The mupdf package includes 'pdfinfo-mupdf' that can also be used to list the fonts used in a pdf-file.

  • Format on HTML report different than on PDF view

I have a Quote report based on Product Revenue that we send to our customers. I have it formatted nicely when initially displayed and also when viewed with the Printer Friendly HTML option. But... when I view it as a PDF, it is not even close.
The layout of the report uses a narrative section with HTML formatting to get the elements to align correctly, per the documentation. The HTML I use is as follows:
    Narrative Section formatting code:
    <table width="600">
    <tr><td colspan=3>  <div align="center"><b><font size="5" face="Times">
      @10</font><br>
    <font size="4" face="Times" >  Prepared Exclusively For: @8</font></b>
    </div></td>
    </tr>
      <tr> <th width="250"><div align="left">Quote Details</div></th> <th width="50">   </th><th width="300"><div align="left">Sales Manager Info:</div></th></tr>
    <tr>
    <td>Quote ID: @9</td><td> </td><td>Name: @16</td></tr>
    <tr>
    <td>Quote Date: @15</td><td> </td><td>Email: @17</td>
    <tr><td>Quote Expiration: @14</td><td> </td><td> </td></tr>
    <tr><td colspan=3><div align="center"><b>Phones - Cell:</b> @18, <b>Work:</b> @20, <b>Fax: </b> @19 </div></td></tr>
    </table>
Notes: @11Is there another way to get the HTML view and PDF view to look the same (or at least close)?
(more details and examples here --> [HTML and PDF Views|http://crm.nurserysupplies.com/images/CRM_HTML_and_PDF_views.doc])

To date, this is considered a product limitation. I just talked with an escalation manager regarding this very issue, and he offered to bring this up with the product managers/engineers on 5/15/09. I recommend escalating this issue and asking your escalation manager to do the same.

The best way to accomplish what you are trying to do is: Click Printer Friendly > Click HTML > Click on File - Print in browser window > Either print to PDF using a pdf printer from adobe or the cutepdf or print a hard copy.

  • Why HTML report takes more time than the PDF one?

    Hi,
I have created report in Reports 6i. When I run the report on the web with FORMAT = PDF it runs very fast and shows all the pages in 2 minutes. But when I run with
FORMAT = HTML it shows the first page in 2 minutes, after that it takes lot of time to show the remaining pages. If the total pages are more than 40, the browser just freezes
Can somebody give me the reason?
Is there any way to rectify this?
    Thanks alot.
    Ram.

    Hi Senthil,
Iam running with the below parameters.
    Format : HTML
    Destination : Screen.
My default browser is IE. When I try to run using Netscape it showed only 1 page out of 34 pages.
When I run Format as PDF it is faster but font size is small when it opens up. Offcourse user can zoom it.
If I increase the report width from 11 to 14 the font size becomes very small when it open up in browser.
Is there any way that I can set up zoom when I run as PDF?
    Thanks for your help.
    Ram.

  • PDF Generation Error Message:Couldn't open File while generating PDF from a Frame (7.2 Version) book

    Hi,
I'm trying to convert a book into PDF and I get the error message Couldn't open a file (... <filename>.fm) and the unavailable Fonts dialog box also appears. The tricky thing is I've converted the same book into PDF just a couple of days ago. Now when I tried to do it again, I get the above mentioned error message. I tried unselecting the File > Prefrences > General > Remember Missing Fonts checkbox too. However, it didn't help in generating the PDF. I will be thankful if anyone suggests a suitable workaround for this issue. Thanks in advance.

Usually, deselecting Remember missing fonts works.
The missing fonts message displays when you or FrameMaker opens the file. The workaround is to open all the files in the book, or at least those with the "missing" font, clearing the message for each file. Now print the book to PDF, while keeping the files open. This usually works because you have already cleared any missing fonts messages.

  • Why is WB temperature way different than what's set in my camera?

I did search for the topic before I posted and only one relevant post came up (in the last month) which moreless confirmed the same issue with a different camera.
I shoot Olympus E1, so I dialed 7500K and fired a shot. Imported into Aperture and looking at WB scale and it reads 6186K. The image looks as if Aperture showed the image correctly, but the number is way off. 1300K difference??? So obviously if I move it to 7500 it will not be correct anymore because it will be rather 8800 in reality.
Second thing I did right after, was to look at EXIF and sure enough Aperture showed no value in WB field.
For a comparison purpose I looked at the shot in ACR and found out that the temperature was spot on. So this is not rather whether Olympus is hiding the value so it's difficult to retrieve, but rather how is Aperture coming up with so wrong figure.
I am also curious how can Aperture get the image colored correctly if it cannot figure out the set WB value in camera properly.
Puzzling to say the least and confusing possibly for processing work.
    Thanks
    Marek

    Hi Marek,
There are a couple ways you can get white balance "right."
    1) You can shoot a grey card (or something like an ExpoDisc) in the field and then set the white balance of the camera onsite.
    2) You can shoot the same grey card onsite and leave the camera on AWB, and shoot everything. Then go back and eyedropper the grey card and batch change all your photos.
#2 is quicker... but they both work equally well.
But practically you will not "get it right" by setting the white balance to a preset in the field. "Daylight" at 5000K (or whatever the setting in your camera is), is a total WAG. The actual color temperature may be 4500K or 6300K in that setting -- you will have very little chance of getting it right by picking an auto setting. You COULD break out a spectropherometer and measure and find it is 5002K so use 5000K in camera, but again if Aperture came up with 4837 you'll still want to edit later.
If you are "serious about your shooting" where "serious" means accurate, then you are going to be shooting indoors under controlled lighting conditions. You will also shoot with a full GMB card which has all the colors and tints and hues, so you can get absolutely correct colors (HELLO, FASHION AND ADVERTISING PHOTOGRAPHY). If you do landscape, then color temperature, as is contrast and a number of other things, is open to interpretation. When I was shooting with Seth Resnick in Antarctica a few weeks back, his rule of thumb was basically "Start at 6500K and warm it up from there." lol. Still, his images are beautiful.

  • Why is browser ip address different than network ip address?

Trying to use remote access from home to my server computer at work (small salon running a management software called STX Salon Transcripts) and used to look for my server ip address using what's my ip.com, which gives me an ip that hasn't been working--now I find an ip in my network settings that's completely different...   Server computer is plugged into the internet directly to the modem...

    Not enough information.
Was this ever working for you?
Does the service provider at work claim to provide a static IP address?
Are you accessing what's my ip.com from the server at work?
    Is either of the addresses involved in the ranges that RFC1918 defined as private (10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255, 172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255, or 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255)?
Is either of the addresses involved in the range that IANA reserves for carrier-grade NAT (100.64.0.0 - 100.95.255.255)?

  • Why does my dock look different than normal ML docks

Hi, I upgrade to ML and over time my dock started to look diffrent, it has two indicator lights instead of a line, can you help me, thanks.

I kinda like it the way you have it - it's easier to see the lights that way.  Still, if you insist on getting rid of it...
Assuming this behavior survives a restart, a standard thing to try is to trash the Dock preferences. You will have to repopulate your dock afterwards.
The files start with com.apple.dock and are found in ~/Library/Preferences.
You can get to your home LIbrary via the Finder Go menu if you press the option key and select Library.  The preference files are then in the Preference subfolder, and in the Preferences/ByHost subfolder.
To get the changes to take effect you will have to relaunch the dock, e.g., by quitting it in Activity Monitor or by logging out/in.
    Hope this helps.

  • PDF outputs continually crash after editing an html source file

I have English and multiple localized versions of a RoboHelp webhelp project. I have created several PDF outputs for the localized versions. I can generate the PDFs fine when I don't touch any of the html source files.
However, I had to make a change to one of the html source files to remove a <dl> from the source file. After making the change to the source file in an outside text editor (Notepad ++), I went back to RoboHelp to generate the PDF, and the PDF output crashed.
The reason I was using an outside text editor is that when I tried to edit the <dl> HTML tags in RH, its HTML editor deleted all text within the tags being edited.  There was no undo at this point.  In anotehr attempt to use the RH Design editor, RH didn’t delete the <dd> or <dt> tags when those tag styles were changed to <h4> and <p>, respectively. RH inserted the new html wrapper inside the existing ones, instead of replacing it.
Also, during the PDF generation process, a Visual Basic error message will appear dozens of times stating that the application was interrupted.  I must press OK to continue for each error message.
What gives with the PDF generation failing like this?

I hate to say it but it sounds like something you are doing in the external editor is not liked by RoboHelp.
It could just be the way that text editor codes the file. I use EditPad Pro and that has various options for text encoding. My guess is your editor is not set to what RoboHelp expects.
Aftr that what I would do here is create a new one topic project and recreate the problem, with the minimum of text. It may help you spot the code RoboHelp does not like.

  • Open PDF-Output in browser window with full height

    Hi,
I must open some BIP-Reports as PDF in a browser window via URL. The problem ist, that the height of the PDF-Output is fixed, as the PDF is shown in an iframe with fixed height.
The height can be set in the BIP preferences, but only to a fixed value (not to something like "100%"). If the height is smaller than the users browser window, then there is unused space below the pdf output. If the height is greater than the users browser window, there are two scrollbars to the right: One for the html-Page and one for the PDF.
    I tried the following options:
    1. http://<bip-server:port>/xmlpserver/public/<report-name>.xdo?_xmode=4&_xf=pdf
-> Output is PDF, only the PDF is shown (_xmode=4), opens in same browser window but height is limited.
    2. http://<bip-server:port>/xmlpserver/public/<report-name>.xdo?_xmode=4&_xf=pdf&_xpt=1
-> PDF is not opend in browser window, but can be downloaded or opened in a separate PDF-Viewers window.
I would like to just open the PDF in the browser window in full height. How can I achive this?

    Hello Yesh,
you can open PDFs as a guest user (without authentification):
    1. Allow Guest Access (Admin -> Security Configuration -> Check "Allow Guest Access" and select a folder name).
    2. Copy your Report into this guest folder
    3. You can open the Report as PDF with a link like this:
    http://(bip-server-name):9704/xmlpserver/(guest-folder-name)/(report-name)/(report-name).xdo?_xpt=0&_xf=pdf&_xmode=4(&report-parameters)
Just replace the strings in brackets. You find a great description of the URL parameters in Tim Dexters Blog
    http://blogs.oracle.com/xmlpublisher/2006/07/accessing_xmlp_enterprise_repo.html
I didn't find an option to set the height of the PDF-Output for the guest user in the BIP-UI. Maybe I missed something. But you can manually edit the configuration file. It is located on your BIP server direcory in the subdirectory xmlp/XMLP/Users. Select the guest users subdirectory and edit the configuration file "user~.profile".
In this XML config file there is an entry "viewerHeight". In the Value-Tag you can enter the PDF output windows height in pixel (but unfortunaly not in % - this was the question of my original posting).
    Hope that helps...

  • Oracle bi publisher PDF output changes chart scale

I have created report which has charts - bar charts
I able to run report in various formats including interactive, html, excel, powerpoint, pdf etc.
Now the chart scale on all other format reports showing perfect e.g. 3.0 height on y axis. So its basically adjusting as the max height (value) for y axis. But for PDF output no matter weather it has less than 3.0 for all values in that page, but it shows height 4.0 (instead of 3.0 max as other output formats are showing). So its not adjusting dynamically as other output formats.
How can I get PDF document display same as other output formats? Because if all values less than 0.5 height, still PDF output showing height as 4.0 , so graph is not visible or almost touching to the ground with straight line.
Please help and appreciate your help.
    Thanks

Has there been any update on this? I am running into the same problem, only it is only affecting one of my charts. The maximum keeps on dynamically setting to 4.0, though I have also seen it set its maximum to 5 and minimum to -5 given certain parameters.
I have three other charts on the same report: one with a dynamic maximum that sets correctly, and two that have a static maximum. The problem is only when I view it as a PDF.

    Hi All,

We are also using the standard 0QUERY_TEMPLATE_BROADCAST_PDF web template.

  • PDF Output, security concerns

    Hello there,
I'm using Forms6i & Reports 6i to generate PDF documents. Everything works well. But the generated PDF-files can be changed using the Acrobat Writer. Is there a way to force Reports (or any other tool) to generate PDF-files, which cannot be changed by anyone ? Purpose is the creation of signed documents, which should be archived and therefore these files should be protected against unauthorized access. I know this can be achieved by using Acrobat Writer, but it has to be done automatically through my application. Thanks for any help.

Now Report will not support multi-char while your DESTYPE='FILE' and DESFORMAT='PDF'. I got the same problem in Tradition Chinese.
So if you want to get a correct PDF file, you
can install a Acrobat Writer first and then
    use the following setting: DESTYPE='Printer',
DESFORMAT='PDF',DESNAME='Acrobat PDFWriter'(<== your acrobat printer name).
After that, you can get a PDF file. But you have to key-in PDF file name as Acrobat printer dialog box will show up every time.I'll try to solve the problem to avoid user key-in every time. Now I still have no idea about it :(
