PDF reporting in Apex 3.0

Hi,
the pdf printing is working pretty good, but what if I want an invoice in PDF Format.
How can I put the report information in one xml-document?
Is it possible to display Master-Detail information?
By example:
header: customer and order information
body: order detail lines
end: totals

Yes, you can do that. Go to shared components, click on reports, go to report queries:
-     create new report query
-     type in SQL query that selects your order items, optionally include bind variables to e.g. limit result dynamically at runtime by customer, click next
-     test your query to make sure it returns the desired result set, if bind variables were used, supply test values, click next
-     include page or application items that you previously created for customer and order information, click next
-     download XML version of your report query
-     open Word (make sure you have the XML Publisher client installed – see OTN)
-     load XML file into XML Publisher Word plug-in and design your order/order item RTF template (see XML Publisher documentation on how to create RTF templates)
-     save RTF as a file and upload into your wizard in Application Express, click next
-     test print output, then click create
To integrate this with your current application, copy & pasted the print URL shown on the last step (or when editing the report) and use it as a target for a button, list item, etc.
I’ll provide a sample application for an order / order item master detail PDF once we’ve completed Apex 3.0 that outlines all the steps required in more detail.
Regards,
Marc

  • Create PDF report with APEX and Oracle 11g doesn't work

    Hi everyone,
I have a problem with the downloading of PDF reports from APEX with Oracle 11g.
When I try to download a PDF, Acrobat Reader says it can not open the file.
I have done the same test in an environment with APEX and Oracle 10g and it works perfectly.
Does anyone know if there is a known bug for version 11g.
    Thank you very much.

    Hi Munky,
I open the generated file the Notepad++ I can read the next message:
    *<HTML><HEAD><TITLE>500 Internal Server Error</TITLE></HEAD><BODY><H1>500 Internal Server Error</H1>OracleJSP:*

I have not idea can I solve the problem.
Have you got any solution for this problem??

  • Can BI Publisher comes with EBize be used to print pdf report from APEX?

    Hi,
We have EBiz suit (11.5.10) with APEX 3.2. Both are working fine. I want to enable APEX to develop PDF reports. I would like to know whether I can use BI Publisher comes with EBiz to print PDF from APEX.
If yes where can I get instructions on how to setup APEX with BI Publisher with EBiz.
    TIA
    DineshS

I'm not aware of the BIP/XMLP Web Services being available in the embedded EBS version (XML Publisher 5.6.3). But you might be able to create your own wrapper to the XMLP APIs in EBS.

  • Pdf reports in APEX

    Hi,
I need to generate pdf reports using interactive reports feature in oracle APEX. But everytime, I am getting error like print server is not configured and like this. Can any one help me over this?
Is there any other way of generating pdf reports in oracle APEX without using pdf printing.
Also,do we need BI publisher for simple/standard pdf printing? Please suggest.
    Thanks and Regards
    VG.

While you can enable simple APACHE FOP printing in APEX 3.1 and beyond, it is not easy and not very robust. Oracle recommends BI Publisher for a reason (besides wanting to make money!)
    Here are links with information:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/configure_printing.html
Marc has an excellent APEX Blog that includes this:
    http://marcsewtz.blogspot.com/2008/06/heres-another-posting-on-pdf-printing.html
Marc made this presentation - slide 15 shows the APACHE FOP architecture:
    http://www.nyoug.org/Presentations/2008/Dec/Sewtz_Advanced%20Printing.pdf
I am sure you can find more info if you Google. But I will share our experiences. We installed APEX 3.1 but were not going to be buying BI Publisher. We had previous success with integrating Oracle Reports (web) into APEX 3.0 and liked that but wanted to explore the APACHE FOP solution mentioned in the APEX documentation.
We installed APEX 3.1 in an Oracle 10g Database. We used the included HTTP Webserver (Apache, I think?) that comes with APEX then installed the APACHE FOP piece in an OC4J container. We aren't Apache experts - more DBAs - so maybe people with lots of experience in OC4J and Apache would have an easier time. We did not and were not able to get much support from Oracle Support. They kept citing BI Publisher solutions - which we weren't using.
Anyway, we get the whole thing installed and running to find out that APACHE FOP has limitations (memory issues, rendering issues, layout issues). I think if we learn XSLT coding enough to make custom layouts, we might get past the layout issues but the memory usage is of more concern.
We are now revisiting Oracle Reports. BI Publisher might be great but we already own Oracle Reports licenses and don't have a budget to purchase something new.

  • Multi query PDF report in apex 4.0

    Hi All...
I have created a report in apex 4.0. it consists of more than 40 queries. Initially it was working fine but now it has a very unpredictable behavior. Some of the queries were not retrieving the data. I just deleted them and then recreate them , the data retrieved. I took the backup of the whole application and imported it on another machine. The queries that were recreated were working fine but most of the other queries were not retrieving the data. This happened several times and each time a new set of queries doesnt retrieve the data...
What can be the problem? Is there any limitation with the "Report Query" size in in apex4.0?
    Best Regards

40 QUERIES???? Why don't you move SOME of those to views in your database, unless they need some sort of parameters passed in, then move them to collections in a procedure... Sounds like a train wreck just waiting to happen....
A blonde goes to the doctor and as she touches each part of her body with her finger she says: Doc it hurts everywhere. My leg hurts, my arm hurts, my neck hurts, and even my head hurts! Doc what's wrong? The doctor answers: Your finger is broken!

  • Open PDF report on clicking a URL link

    Hello,
I have a requirement to open a PDF report when clicking on a URL.
Example : Open a Purchase Order PDF report when clicked on a URL from a different web based system (non APEX). I was able to open APEX pages from the web pages but i am not sure how to open a PDF report. I will have to pass PO number in the URL.
I would really appreciate it If anyone can give me some direction. I have created PDF reports within APEX and called from within other Pages in APEX but not outside of APEX.

Sorry I really didn't mean to be stupid ;)
below is my requirement. We use oracle ebs and we use forms version. Our requirement is to open various PDF reports by clicking a buttons/menu in different forms with in Oracle apps forms. We have APEX developer who can create PDF reports in APEX easily but the technology on ebs side is complex to develop simple PDF in the way users want. So we were thinking if we create a PDF report in APEX..and call the apex report from ebs. Is this possible? Inow we can call other APEX web pages from EBS.

  • PDF printing using APEX Listener

    Hi -
I have one report region a an apex page which displays a classic report based on a simple query. I also have a some header information above the report which are the application item information passed from the previous page. I am trying to generate a PDF report(using APEX listener), the report comes fine but it doesn't show the header information that is displayed above the report. Is there a way to do that? I tried putting some values in "Print Attributes" --> "Page Header" section but it just shows it as static text. Please provide your expertise.
    APEX version: 4.2.2
    Oracle:11gR2
    Printing Engine: Apex Listener
    Thanks,

You will need to build an Xsl document and load it into APEX..  Here is the link showing how to do advanced printing with APEX..:

  • Printing PDF  reports in application express

    Hi everyone,
I am a newbie to APEX.can anyone post some links or material regarding the PDF reports in APEX.
    Thank u

This is where I started. I then read up on the information on BI Publisher at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/bi/enterprise-edition.html .
Between the 2 sites, I think you will have everything you need.

  • PDF Report Output

    Hi,
In relation to thread: PLPDF experience / references
has anyone tried using the XML/PDF Access API for Java (XPAAJ) (http://www.adobe.com/devnet/livecycle/downloads/xpaaj.html) to generate PDF Reports from Apex?
Having had a look at PL/PDF, I'm worried that the examples on the website are mainly tabular, which wouldn't give us enough flexibility of layout.
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Mike
I would be very keen to see any complex reports produced in PL/PDF. I have had a little look and am convinced that it might be up to the job but without investing a fair bit of time, I cannot provide a definitive yes or no.
I understand the Apex 3.0 may well provide the answer and am loathed to implement a solution now when it may be very simple in a few months time.
I will let you know how I get on and publish any examples that you may find useful.

  • PDF report hangs

    Hi,
I installed the apex3.2 on oracle10gR2 database and configure the oracle HTTP server to run the apex application and it is running fine , now I downloaded the apache tomcat+cocoon+ fop_post and installed it, the sample pdf reports in cocoon directories are running fine but when I call the pdf report from the apex forms it shows the progress in the browser but it hangs for the undefinite time untill i have to cancel the report, no error is displayed in the browser but the progress stops in the half. so can somebody suggest me the solution for this so that i can run the pdf reports from apex.
    Thanks
    Hardip

    Hi,
The report is returning the data in the web page, and in the Instance settings the Standard Report option is selected and IP,PORT & /cocoon/fop_post has been configured. In the Report Print Attributes the Report Printing is set to YES, Output format PDF. when we run the page the report is displayed on the webpage but when the print link is clicked the progress starts but no report or error is displayed.
    Thanks

  • Report Logo - Displays on HTML, not on PDF report  (Apex report_)

    Hi Gurus.
I thought I'd report this here, as we are having a BI Publisher error, and I'm not getting any help on the Apex subforum.
+We have a system environment setup where we have BI Publisher Enterprise and Apex 3.1.2 talking together to create PDF reports on a Oracle 10g database (R2 I think, I'm uncertain). As part of a business requirement, depending on what project you are looking at within our apex application, when printing a report you see a logo specific to the project. We have already developed this using a RTF template with a dummy image embedded, and url:{concat(.//URL,.//PROJECT_ID)} in the Alternative Text field of the Web tab of the Format Picture dialogue.+
This worked fine when using the RTF templates as Report Layouts within Apex and as templates within a BI Publisher report.
    However, now logos aren't appearing.
We are on  BIP 10.1.3.2 according to the Help File, and we are running Apex 3.1.2.00.02 on Dev and Apex 3.1.1.00.09 on test and prod, however none of these environments are outputting logos in the PDF reports.
Curiously, if I go into the BI Publisher interface and ask for the report to be outputted as HTML, the image shows. Running the HTML version of the report from Apex also shows the logo -- but the logo isn't showing in the PDF reports.
As I continue trouble shooting, any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

If anyone could give us any insight on this, it would be appriciated.
I'm unsure if its a permissions problem with the PDF seeing the image, or something related to server setup. We currently have a redirect in place to production that doesn't include the :7777 in the URL, and for some reason, if the G_URL for the image is changed to this portless URL, the image is embedded. However, this redirect was in place for another application, and will soon be locked down, so is not available for a long term solution to this problem

  • How to print a BLOB (image) on a PDF report using Oracle APEX Listener as Print Server

        apex_util.get_blob_file_src('P22_CUSTOMER_IMAGE', customer_id) ||
        '" height="75" width="75" alt="Photo Customer" title="Photo Customer" />') customer_image,
        mimetype,
        image_last_update
    from
        demo_customers;
I am unable to have the image printed on the PDF report. Even when the P22_CUSTOMER_IMAGE is defined as session state item.
Does someone knows how to print such image/BLOB in a PDF report?
    Thanks by advance.
    Kind Regards.

    Hi,
Indeed, I would need a custom layout.
Unfortunately, it seems (according to this white paper) not possible with the APEX listener only. I would need a third pary tool. A pity...
For me strange, that I cannot generate such a report having images or pictures in a pre-definied report layout... Maybe a future enahancement for Oracle.
    Kind Regards.

  • Altova StyleVision 2013 - APEX PDF Report

    Hello,
I read this tutorial for create report : http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/apex/learnmore/custom-pdf-reports-1953918.pdf
But I have a problem when I create report for APEX with Altova StyleVision.
I use Oracle XE 11gR2, APEX 4.2 and APEX Listener 2.0.4.
In APEX, I created a state with 14 queries, and I exported in XML format.
I can built four tables (from 4 different queries / rowset) in my report, and PDF printing works.
But I have a problem when I want to add a fifth query (table) in my report :
When I generate the PDF document from my APEX application, I have the following error message :
"Error displaying the error page ORA-01403: No data found ORA-06502: PL / SQL: numeric or value error"
Do you know why I get this error message when my report has 5 queries ?
The number of queries in a PDF report is limited?
Thank you very much for your help ! And sorry for my english ;-)

Thank you for your answer !
This is what I checked :
APEX is configured to print via Listener --> ok !
XSLT is the 1.0 version --> ok !
5th query actually produces data --> ok ! If I create a new Report (with Altova) with only this query, the PDF works.
Your Report is assigned to the correct Report Layout --> ok !
Making a new Report Layout in APEX using the same XSLT file --> same error !
Build a new XSLT in StyleVision using the new XML sample data --> same error !
Downloading the XML from within the Report definition (ie 'run the report but download XML instead of making PDF') --> here there is maybe an error. When I open with a text editor the xml file downloaded, it contains this : "String index out of range: -1". BUT when I do the same operation with a pdf file who works (only 4 queries), the xml file downloaded contains the same message (String index out of range: -1).
I forgot to say that I use the trial version of Altova, and my APEX Listener run in Standalone mode.
Do you have any other answer to my problem ?
Thank you very much for your help !

To generate PDF file from APEX reports, you either have to install & configure Bi Publisher or FOP/Cocoon..

There are alternatives (jasper reports, pl/pdf), but they are also items you need to install and configure..
