Yes, you can use the Acrobat SDK and/or the Adobe PDFLibrary for this purpose.

  • I'm attempting to create a pdf from InDesign and the Illustrator image does not appear properly.

I'm attempting to create a pdf from InDesign and the Illustrator logo does not appear properly. The logo has a light blue color background with a black to white gradiant over it with a multiply designation set at 100%.  I flattened the logo in illustrator before importing into InDesign. When the pdf is created, the blue background of the logo drops out and the only thing showing is the graduated screen of black. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

    Thanks for your reply Peter,
I'm on Mac OSX (10.5.8) using Acrobat 7 Professional and Acrobat
Reader 9 to view the pdf. I created it by exporting. Attached is a
screen capture of the letterhead. Since I posted, I sent a test pdf to
my partner's computer eventhough it didn't look right on my system and
she said it looked fine to her. I've restarted my computer and tried
again and still get the same results.

    Bryan,
You can download both at the same time.
But you may wish to start off with one and use it full time, then download the other later, so you get the maximum possible time with both.
If you have trouble getting the free trial on the Adobe site, you may try here or here:

  • IMac retina and Adobe illustrator

My Mac Pro 1.1(2.66 Ghz Dual -core Intel Xeon) is on its last legs and i'm looking to purchase a new Imac Retina. I predominately use in Illustrator and photoshop for my work.I have held off purchasing because I have heard with performance issues with the new Imac and Adobe Illustrator CS6 and CC. Has anyone else heard or experienced any issues relating to this combination?

I just received a Retina iMac and Illustrator (latest version) is completely unusable due to the poor performance. Photoshop is fine.
There is a thread on Adobe's forums about it: https://forums.adobe.com/message/6974264#6974264

  • Source of PDF SDK examples and documentation.

I am creating PDF documents from scratch using the Adobe PDF SDK using the "Acrobat and PDF Library API Reference" but find it's lack of examples and detail frustrating.  Is there any addition documentation or third-party books that would be helpful?

It appears most of the examples relate to creating plugins rather generating new PDF as I am doing.  For example I also wish the use the PDEPatternCreate library function.  A text search of the V8 and V9 SDK reveals only a few references in header files.  No actual examples on how to construct the raw CosObjP which I assume must be based on the format from the PDF language specification.  I can't see any practical examples on how to create such objects.  I always find example code is a great learning tool because you can see functions and structures used in context with each other and thus more easily understand how they fit together.

  • Extracting a layout & images from PDF to use in Adobe Illustrator to create webpage

I have been asked to build a small website based on a PDF template (with an additional .indd file) created by a designer who knows nothing about HTML, but they have advised me is that it should be possible to somehow extract the required components (layout & images) using Adobe Illustrator CS5 and then use those to create the webpages.
Is this correct or is there a better way to get the layout & images out of the PDF or .indd files?
I can just about figure my way through Adobe Illustrator, but guidance would be helpful as this is the 1st time i have attempted something like this.
Also the layout that has been provided is about the 1/2 the size it should be, I have tried scaling this up within Adobe Illustrator, but the resulting image won't export to a webpage properly, all that exports is what is within the little box in the middle of the screen. I know I am doing this wrong. What's the correct way to make everything larger?

You can open the pdf in Illustrator  you make an artboard for each image an use the command to fit artboard to selected art and then save for the web and device.
You can slice the artboards and use the slices to make your page
or yu can copy and paste into Muse but Muse is still a beta.
Once it Muse out of Beta testing, it is a public beta, I think there will be little reason to actually know html even if yu are a die hard.
But right now I do not think you can actually publish the pages created in Muse though you can preiew them.
Unless Mylenium has different information than I do.
Flash Catalyist might be th way to go but I think in the end Muse is the correct way but in the near future not right now.

  • IPhoto as Library and Adobe Elements Organizer as download client

I wanted to use Adobe Elements 9 Organizer as the download client as I can actually see image files saved and grouped by folders and iPhoto as library and creative authoring.
Will using iPhoto to create library from Pictures Folder (those saved by Elements Organizer) duplicate the photos that are already in that folder? I kind think that iPhoto will copy those photos into its own. I worry about duplicating the JPEG files in my Pictures Folder.
    Thanks.

I'm with Larry when he says to pick one horse and ride it. This can get quite confusing very quickly.
    To answer your specific question:
Will using iPhoto to create library from Pictures Folder (those saved by Elements Organizer) duplicate the photos that are already in that folder
By default, yes, but you can set iPhoto not to. But note: a: What Happens when you do - for instance, that various versions of the files will not be available except through iPhoto, which will confuse your proposed system, and b: The various caveats to running a Referenced Library.
    *How to do it:*
Simply go to iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck 'Copy Files to the iPhoto Library on Import'.
    *What Happens:*
Now iPhoto will not copy the files, but rather simply reference them on your HD. To do this it will create an alias in the Originals Folder that points to your file. It will still create a thumbnail and, if you modify the pics, a Modified version within the iPhoto Library Folder.
    *Some things to consider:*
    1. Importing and deleting pics are more complex procedures. You have to to put the files where they will be stored before importing them. When you delete them you'll need to remove the files from the HD yourself.
    2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them on systems prior to 10.5 and iPhoto 08. Even with the later versions issues can still arise if you move the referenced files to new volumes or between volumes.
    3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
    4. Because iPhoto has no tools for managing Referenced Files, if, for some reason, the path to the photos changes then you could find yourself resolving aliases for +each photo in the Library+ one by one.
    My own opinion:
I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organiser
If disk space is an issue, you can run an entire iPhoto Library from an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you're concerned about accessing the files, There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
    *An Alternative*
Set Elements as an External Editor in iPhoto: You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Note that iPhoto sends a copy+ of the file to Photoshop, so when you save be sure to use the Save command, not Save As... If you use Save As then you're creating a new file and iPhoto has no way of knowing about this new file. iPhoto is preserving your original anyway.

  • PDF differences (Microsoft and Adobe)

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me what the differences are between PDFs generated by the normal Microsoft Office, File --> Save As --> PDF option and those generated by Acrobat (e.g. from the Office Acrobat menu, or by dragging the Office document onto Acrobat)?
    Rgds
    Mike

    Hi,
We had done some analysis and following are the specific areas where Acrobat PDFMaker outdoes MS “Save as PDF” functionality –
    Word
Comments are retained as annotations in PDF, which can be exported back to the original Word document later.
Word Headings, Styles and Bookmarks can be retained in PDF using PDFMaker. MS “Save as PDF” provides the option to retain either Word Headings or Word Bookmarks, only one option at a time.
Retains intra/inter-document links, cross-references, endnotes and footnotes as links.
    Creates rich accessible PDF(s).
Retains embedded Flash as RichMedia in PDF.
Mail Merge: Merge mail templates to Adobe PDF and optionally, mail them to recipients.
Import Comments: Import comments from the corresponding PDF back to the original Word document.
Convert signature fields specified by PDFMarks.
    [Common to Word, Excel, PowerPoint]
Provides a list of Conversion Settings including –
PDF/A, PDF/X standards to choose from.
Various Joboptions to modulate the quality of output PDF.
Advanced Settings option to create customized Joboptions to control PDF compatibility, image compression algorithms, etc.
Option to secure output PDF with open password and/or password for editing PDF. Compression algorithms used depends upon the compatibility level set in the JobOption used:
    Acrobat 4 – 40-bit RC4
    Acrobat 5/6 – 128-bit RC4
    Acrobat 7/8 – 128-bit AES
Option to attach source Office document.
Retains document information, including custom information.
Options to – a) Create and attach to Email, b) Create and Share for Review c) Create PDF and Run action
    Excel
Provides option to either a) choose sheets to convert, b) selection or c) Entire Workbook.
Comments are retained as annotations in PDF.
Retains intra-document references as links in PDF.
    Bookmarks worksheets.
    Creates rich accessible PDF(s).
Provides options to: “Fit Worksheet to a single page”, “Fit to paper width” that helps preserve the look-and-feel of the source Workbook.
    PowerPoint

Converts hidden slides as PDF pages.
    Preserves slide transitions.
    Creates rich accessible PDF(s).

  • Missing add-on Convert to pdf in IE10 and Adobe Acrobat XI

    Hello,
I have Windows 8 with Adobe Acrobat XI Pro installed but I cannot find the internet explorer 10 "adds-on" (nor the icon on the IE bar) for the "Convert to pdf file" anymore.
I think the problem originated when I installed Creative Suite CS3 and it had Acrobat 8 in it. I installed it too fast and didn't realize it was included. It overtook some of the features of XI Pro, so I uninstalled Acrobat 8 and installed Adobe Acrobat XI Pro again to see if the problem could get solved.
Worse. With both Acrobat 8 and XI installed I still saw the adds-on but they were "unavailable", or enabled but couldn't find the icon to use the function. Now I can't even find the Adds-on in the tools menu of IE to see if they could be enabled. They are simply not there anymore. This is the main feature that I use for my work and I would be grateful if someone would give me a hint or where to download the missing element.
    Thank you very much.

  • Indesign and Adobe Illustrator files?

I have  double sided leaflet Ai file which I have created. I will be sending it for professional printing (3500 copies). There needs to be some tweaking that only Indesign can do. The question is what is the best way to get my Ai two artboard file into Indesign?

It's really not clear whether you understand your situation.
Ok I need to save AI docoumet as PDF and use InDesign Place command.
Or, you could just place the AI file, but in either case, when you do that, you'll essentially have a picture of your Illustrator layout on your InDesign page.
AI doesn't support wrap text for Photos but InDesign does. That was what I wanted to tweak!
If you've already set all the type in Illustrator, you won't be able to re-flow it in InDesign. You can't Place a completed layout from Illustrator, then edit it in InDesign. To use any of inDesign's features, you'd have to rebuild the layout on the InDesign page; placing the images and/or vector graphics as discreet elements, and then setting the type in a separate operation.
