Pdf to Flickr or Picasa (Automator?)

Hi All.
I am trying to get multiple page pdfs to Flickr and Picasa.
Can anyone advise as to what is involved with this and how to walk though this step by step.
New to Mac.
Thanks.

Those would be good for a site covering general photo stuff - this is a user to user help forum for iPhoto use
Based on my very limited experience with both they are totally different - Picasa is a Mac (or PC) program that runs on your computer and organizes your photos like iPhoto (although IMHO it does not come close to iPhoto in poser and ease of use) and Flickr is a web based system designed to share photos with very little overlap with iPhoto (or Picasa) iPhoto can set up and sync Flickr albums directly so you can use both iPhoto and Flickr on the same photos - you can not do that with iPhoto and Picasa.

  • Extract text from PDF and parse to Excel, automator? applescript?

I'd been trying to do this with automator and have been getting nowhere.
I have some pdf files that have selectable, formatted text in them.
Its an old college directory that I would like to import.  There are chunks of text:
    Name:  XXX, XXX
Telephone: (XXX) XXX-XXXX        DOB:    XX/XX/XX          Gender: XXX
    Hometown:

I'd like to find a way to extract the names, the phone numbers, and the hometowns and get it all into those respective columns in excel.  Seems that I don't stand a chance with automator.  Do I need a programmer for this?

  • Create PDF document via Acrobat OLE/Automation?

    Hi,
Is it possible to utilize the OLE/Automation feature of Acrobat Professional, instead of Acrobat SDK, to create a PDF document and add objects into it?
    Thanks

OLE is a part of the SDK, not something different from it.
To use OLE you need the SDK as that is where it is documented.
OLE is very limited but it can run Acrobat JavaScript. Even then, it probably won't do what you want. You can add form fields and annotations but not page content.

  • Create pdf from an array in automator

    Hi,
Consider that I have an array of files, all of them in the same folder, with names like 1_cover.pdf, 2.pdf, 3.pdf, 4_article1.pdf, 5.pdf, 6_article2.pdf.
I already have a script that
receives a set of pdf files
    combine them
move to a new folder with the same name of the 1st file
rename the combined file to the name of the 1st file of the set + "new"
Now I need to do 2 things
    1) loop: run the script that I already have for how many articles I have in the set (3 times in the exemple above).
I think I need to count how many "_" I have in the folder and iterate, but I have no idea how to do this.
    2) Group the articles like
    Cover
    1_cover_new.pdf
    =
    [1_cover.pdf, 2.pdf, 3.pdf]
    Article 1
    4_article_new.pdf
    =
    [4_article.pdf, 5.pdf]
    Article 2
    6_article2_new.pdf
    =
    [6_article2.pdf]
With the script that I already have, I could enter the 3 sets manually and have the output I need, but I'd like to enter with the entire folder and get everything done. =)
    Thank you very much

  • Techniques needed for Automated (OLE) PDF Creation from Word using Adobe 9

My client currently uses Adobe 5, PDF Writer, Word and OLE automation to generate PDF files.  This is done on a server. A queue of Word documents are read. A watermark is added via a VB Macro. Then, also via a macro (below) a pdf file version of the Word doc  is generated. The pdf file is generated as temp.pdf, which the program uniquely renames later.
Unfortunately, Adobe 5 and PDF Writer cannot handle Chinese characters and now needs to.  Seems like the process  above cannot be the same with Adobe 9. How should I approach this server driven, pdf file generation from Word docs with Adobe 9? This is a 24 x 7 ongoing, 100s of documents a day process. It isn’t clear to me that PDF Writer is still an option.  With Adobe 9 installed on a client, it is possible to save a Chinese character Word document using the Adobe ‘Convert to PDF’ toolbar button
    Sub WritePdfFile()
        Windows(1).Activate
        ActivePrinter = "Acrobat PDFWriter"
        Application.PrintOut FileName:="", Range:=wdPrintAllDocument, Item:= _
            wdPrintDocumentContent, Copies:=1, Pages:="", PageType:=wdPrintAllPages, _
            Collate:=True, Background:=True, PrintToFile:=False
    End Sub

  • Automator: How to create a PDF contact sheet?

    Hi,
I'm trying to create a PDF from multiple images in automator. The PDF should contain:
First Page: A contact sheet with all images
Following pages: One page for each image
Any idea how to achieve this? I don't even get the contact sheet working – it always results in a blank PDF.
    Kind regards
    Jan

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately the intructions in the link don't work (did it exactly like this -> result is an empty PDF). I learned now from other posts that this is a Mavericks specific issue, which seems to be unsolved.
Apart from this: Do you think my request is solvable at all? Because the output of the contact sheet module would be the contact sheet iteslf (if it worked). I can't use this to create the full sized PDF pages, right?

  • Using Automator to Batch Create PDFs

I've been trying to find a way to make an Automator workflow that will take the name of a folder and combine it's files into a PDF with as little manual input as possible and have finally figured out how to do so. I've seen others ask how to do this for a while so I wanted to share how I did it.
Why would you want to create PDFs? If you have scanned books, photos, documents or anything else on your Mac, you can create PDFs out of them. You can then store these in iTunes and either read them using Preview on your Mac or iBooks on your iOS device.
    What this workflow will do:
Take a folder with images, get the folder's name, and create a PDF of the images with it's name.
On the next pass of the workflow, it will send the previous folder to the trash.
Create/have a backup of your files!
Create a folder somewhere that you can drop your folders in. Name it Automator Dropbox. You can create one wherever you want, but this workflow was created with Automator Dropbox in mind so you'll need to change it as necessary.
Open Automator and create a new workflow.
    Find Finder Items
    - Search Automator Dropbox
    - [All] of the following are true:
    - [Label] is [Red]
This will search for any folders that were done before.
    Move Finder Items to Trash
This will move the previous folder/files to the trash.
    Ask for Finder Items
    - Prompt: [Choose a Folder]
    - Start at: Automator Dropbox
    - Type: [Folders]
This will ask you to choose the next item to convert to PDF.
    Set Value of Variable
    - Variable: pdfvariable
This will take the name of the folder you just selected and use it to to rename your PDF.
    Label Finder Items
    - [Red]
This will mark the folder you're working on for deletion the next time the workflow is ran.
    Get Folder Contents
This will grab all the image files within the folder so that it can create a PDF out of them.
    Scale Images
    - To size (pixels): 1600
This will scale the maximum dimension of your image down (or up) to 1600px. I find this to be the sweet spot for performance on the iPad 3, and it looks just fine. If the maximum dimension of your image is lower than 1600px, I'd create a duplicate workflow of this and leave out this step; otherwise you will be upscaling and your image won't look as good. You can also leave this step out if you want your original image size kept, but on the iPad 3 and below there will be a delay going from page to page.
    New PDF From Images
    - Save Output to: [Desktop]
    - Output File Name: tempname
This will save your finalized PDF to the Desktop. You can change this to whatever you want; I would suggest the Automatically Add to iTunes folder located in [Music > iTunes > iTunes Media > Automatically Add to iTunes]. You will find your PDF in the Books category in iTunes.
    Rename Finder Items
    - [Replace Text]
    - Find: tempname in [Full Name]. Ignore Case checked.
    - Replace: [pdfvariable] (Drag pdfvariable from the variables window into the text field for "Replace". If you don't see the variables, go to "View > Variables."
You can't just drag the variable into the PDF name field in the step above, so this extra step is necessary. It will rename your PDF with the name of the folder it was created from. It will also add the full file path, which will be taken care of in the next step.
    Rename Finder Items
    - [Replace Text]
    - Find: Users/yourname/Documents/Automator Dropbox in [Full Name]. Ignore Case checked.
    - Replace: LEAVE EMPTY
This will delete the name of the path from the name of your PDF. If your working folder is not Documents/Automator Dropbox, change it to whatever that is.
If you're running this workflow on a bunch of folders, you can simply keep your cursor over the workflow's play button and press the right arrow + enter to select the next item in queue. This workflow was made for using a little human interaction as possible, so if anyone has suggestions on how to improve on it please post below.
One last thing - if you're seeing a red folder when you run the workflow to choose a folder, it's because spotlight hasn't indexed it yet and the workflow could not find it to delete it. Just go on to the next item.

Someone (not me) has created an automator workflow that does this, using a shell script that runs the "pstopdf" unix command. I just downloaded it and tested it on 10 .eps files. You will need to edit the first automator action in the workflow to find the eps files you want (by default it looks for all eps files on your computer), but once you do that, it works like a charm! Converted my eps files to pdf's. Of course, once they are pdf files, you can use automator to convert them to whatever format you want.

  • Automator and pdf

How (with which logic) does Automator combine pdf 's in one? How can I force a precise sequence of pages of origina pdf 's?
    Thanks

Photoshop allows you to rearrange the images you want to put in a multipage PDF within the source file selection dialogue box but it is very fussy about what file types you give it - basically they have to be created or saved as PSDs.
As for Automator, it takes the source files within a folder in alphabetical order, so your best bet is to rename them before creating your multipage PDF.
However this only works if you offer it a source folder to start with (so use the Get Folder Contents action first). If you bung a load of files at it (even if they are the contents of one folder) it will arrange them in an apparently random fashion.
If you don't want to move various PDFs into one folder you can get Automator to create a temporary folder on the desktop, copy the various PDFs there, sort and rename them by date created and then pass this folder into the Composite PDF maker. You can also let Automator trash the temp folder once the job is done, or leave it on the desktop in case you want to rename files to get them in the right order and put that folder into the process.
After creating the composite PDF you can also get Automator to move it to the desktop and rename it (using the Sequential option allows text entry such as New PDF-01) to avoid having to Save As in Preview as somebody suggested in another thread.
Just today I created workflow for this purpose and saved as a Finder plugin. Now I can right-click any folder of PDFs and create a single composite PDF. As this was only my second ever Automator session I am a little proud and quite excited (though frustrated that I can't create PDFs from other source files).
    Hope this helps.

  • How to change link strings on multiple page PDFs - urgent please

I have several muly page PDF pages, and on each PDF page there are 20-50 different web links.
Each of the links are done as Open a Weblink, but on each one I did them like below.
    javascript:void(window.open('http://www.website.com/link1'))
    javascript:void(window.open('http://www.website.com/link2'))
    javascript:void(window.open('http://www.xyz.com/link3'))
    etc.
I would like to be able to remove the beginning and ending on each link, for either one or multiple PDFs using some type of automated process, instead of clicking on each one, one at a time.
I NEED TO REMOVE THIS FROM THE BEGINNING javascript:void(window.open('
    ADOBE shows it as javascript:void\(window.open\('
REMOVE THIS FROM THE ENDING '))
    ADOBE shows it as '\)\)
I tried this using notepad and an editor, but doing so resulted in an error when reopening the PDF
an unrecognized token was found '0.35w' was found
Does Acrobat Pro 9 do this? or??
    Thank you

  • Error message when trying to convert powerpoint presentation to Adobe Acrobat PDF

When trying to create an Adobe Acrobat PDF file from Powerpoint (save as Adobe PDF from the Print menu), Automator gives the following error message: "an error occurred while saving the PDF file". Currently using version 14.4.6 of Microsoft Powerpoint for Mac, 11.0.09 Adobe Acrobat and OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 on iMac. Also had the same problem previously with Mavericks and Mountain Lion. The problem seems to be the Apple Automator not working correctly with the Acrobat interface. I create Acrobat PDF docs perfectly well on my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.7.5) and am scared to update to the latest version of OS X in case that also affects the ability to create PDFs.
I have tried using Apple's own PDF creator, and doing this by first creating PS files then converting to PDF, however, many bugs appear in the files, and they are enormous - around 5x the size of Acrobat PDFs, so this is not an option. I have also tried troubleshooting with Adobe to no avail.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Jane

    Hi star2111,
Please tell us a bit more about the error message that you're receiving, and where you're seeing it (in Adobe Reader, or the ExportPDF website?). It will also be helpful to know whether the error occur when just one file, or with any file that you try to convert.
I look forward to hearing back from you.

  • Adobe PDF 8.0 error - cannot print on MacBook Pro

I have just checked and I am up to date on on software. Since getting this laptop I have not been able to print to PDF with the Adobe PDF 8.0 printer. I have deleted the printer - which sets up fine. And re-added it back in.
When I print I get this in the printer queue:
    Error: /user/libexec/cups/filter/pstops failed
I don't really know what this means. Except that I cannot print. I can print to my wireless printer however - no problem!
I wanted to fix this before I started adding any other printers. Please let me know if more info is needed.

It is not a "work-around". It is the intended behavior of Snow Leopard 10.6.x
Apple intentionally changed the way SL handles "print to PDF" and SL intentionally disables the Adobe Acrobat printer driver.
Once I removed the Adobe Printer from System Preferences -> Print & Fax and restarted the computer, a new option appeared under the (PDF) button on the Print window: "Save As Adobe PDF". This is an Automator action that does everything that the disabled "Adobe Printer" used to do.
    Hope that helps. (jk)

  • Can Acrobat create a PDF using the same page numbers as FrameMaker?

I'm using FrameMaker 10 on Windows 7 and Acrobat Pro 9. I know I can set the page numbers after I create the PDF (Advanced > Document Processing > Page Numbering), but is there any way to tell Acrobat (or Distiller) to do this automatically based on the page format set up in FrameMaker? Right now, the cover and inside cover have no page numbers, but I could assign them numbers and hide them. The TOC is lower case Roman numerals, and the rest of the book uses Arabic page numbering. Someone has asked whether we can have the page numbers be reflected in the page field so that when you enter page 10, it takes you to page 10 of the book (where 10 appears in the corner of the page), not the tenth page of the PDF, which might land you in the TOC.
We produce PDFs as part of an automated system, which is why I can't mess with it after it's been produced.

There is a FrameMaker plug-in that can do this:
    http://www.frameexpert.com/plugins/pagelabeler/index.htm
Or, you might consider using PDFMark to add page labels.

  • Having trouble using applescript to save pdf as excel spreadsheet

I have been trying to use applescript to create an automator action to convert some downloaded PDF's to .xlsx format.  After reviewing a good bit of the SDK documentation, I came up with the following scripting:
    tell application "Adobe Acrobat Pro"
                                  open theFile
save front document to file theNewFile using conversion "com.adobe.acrobat.xlsx"
      close front document
    end tell
This script works fine when I use the "com.adobe.acrobat.plain-text" conversion or the png or jpeg conversion. However, I cannot get it to work with "com.adobe.acrobat.xlsx" or "com.adobe.acrobat.spreadsheet".  Note that although I didn't copy the code here that sets theNewFile variable, I have been changing it to the appropriate file extension when changing conversion strings.
When I execute the script using one of the problem conversion strings, Acrobat opens the file successfully, but it just sits there, as if it does not understand the save command at all.
I guess I should mention that the whole goal here is to actually convert the PDF's to CSV eventually.  The next step was going to be to open the file in Excel and save as CSV.  If anyone knows a *free* way to go straight from PDF to CSV using Applescript/Automator without having to go through all these other programs, I would be very appreciative for the suggestion.  This conversion is just a small part of a very lengthy workflow but it is causing me the most trouble.

    Hello Jonathan,
Ok i have only one final question.
Do you know how to work in photoshop, don't you? Ok i think yes.
Well i have 2 ways to do that, i did one action from photoshop that will get the image inside folder and will convert this image in pdf. Abouve the line of script
that you have to attach to folder action and the action for Photoshop.
About the action for Photoshop give me your email address and I send you, or do it your self. You have to do this: open one image in JPG, go to action, go new set, put your name of set, put the name of action if you like you can change the name, go print with preview, print and set save as PDF close your file and stop the action.
Now that you have to do is put all your files inside your folder and leave the Photoshop do it for you, ok?

  • Batch conversion of Microsoft word to PDF?

    Hi Gang,
I'm not sure which forum to put this in, but I've been all over google and can't find a solution. I'm hoping someone here has a suggestion.
Does anyone know a way to do a batch conversion of MS word to PDF? I installed adobe acrobat pro, and it looks like it will do batch conversions, but only of post script files, not MS word. Which is a waste, because if I can save the files as post scrip, I might as well just save as PDF.
I also tried acrobat distiller, but it tells me it can not read the file type.
I know how to print, save to pdf for a single file, but I'm trying to streamline this process.
I'm not familiar with command line or scripting... I was hoping for an app.
    Anyone have ideas?
    thanks
    Ethan-

    Hi Ethan
Have a look at creating a WorkFlow with Automator which comes with your Mac.
You should be able to modify one of the batching routines in Automator to open folders of Word files and print to .pdf.
Get onto the Automator forum and see what specific assistance they can offer:

  • Where do I find basic automator actions?

I don't see simple actions such as "save" or "save as pdf" in the list of automator actions. where are they?

The Save function is somewhat left to applications to implement within Automator. Microsoft Excel has a Save workbook action for example where some other applications do not have a similar option. You might want to check out an action called "Type Keystroke" which is available free at http://www.automatedworkflows.com/software/automator_actions/system.html The Watch Me Do action might also do the trick. I haven't found a good alternative for saving pdfs yet though I haven't tried "Watch Me Do with that one.
