PDF to Word process in loop

I am trying to upload a PDF file to be converted to Word; however, the process got into a loop.  How to correct and or terminate this job? Adobe will not let me try and convert other files while this hung up process is going.  CMJ

It's your content, under your control.
If you output as an .ibooks file, and you want to sell it, the store is the only outlet, otherwise, you can do as you wish.

  • Moving pdf form to word processing to complete

I have a pdf job application that has no active fields so needs to be moved to word processing in order to complete it.
I have dragged the file into AppleWorks, but only the first page shows up and I can't find the way to input any text to fill in the form. I have dragged the file to TextEdit and all the pages show up, but I still have not figured out how to input the text onto the form. I really want to do this on the computer and not by hand, so any help is appreciated.
    TIA

Wouldn't it be better to use a draw document rather than WP? Also, there is no need to use Preview to open & copy the contents of a one-page PDF. You can insert or drag a PDF into an AppleWorks 6 document. Of course, if the PDF has more than one page, you have to use Preview or another compatible app to access any pages after page 1.

  • Savining my Appleworks word processing pages to PDF

When I save a word processing page (done in Appleworks), to the PDF format, the file is multiplied hugely in size. Is this normal? Office Depot has trouble opening them to print my books. Will using the "compress PDF" interfere with the files in any manner? Will it damage the photos?

    Barbara,
I have never used the compressed version, but the increase in size of the file is often a common occurrence of the PDF generator that Apple has used. This was more prevelent in Panther (10.3) than in Tiger (10.4). The PDF generator in Tiger much improved over earlier versions. The only reason I would see that Office Depot has trouble reading your PDF is if you did not check the box to attach the extension.pdf to the file. Adding the extension to the file enables Windows users to double click to open it. The files will always open if the application is opened first and then the document is opened within the application.
If you purchase the full version of Adobe Acrobat, you can that applications PDF generator and then the files are much smaller than the word document. Since Adobe makes the reader software, their PDF generators are much better, produce higher quality results, most importantly, and are able to have the PDF significantly less in size without losing any of the features or quality.
    Good Luck

  • How to Scan a Paper Doc & Convert It with OCR to a Word Processing Format

In an effort to save others with a similar need some time, I am posting a simple method of using he iPhone to scan a document and convert it, using optical character resolution, to an editable word processing format, usable on computers or iPhones and Android smartphones - all with free apps.  I found no free one-stop-shopping apps that did the job themselves.
To begin, use the DocScan app to scan the paper document. this results in an Acrobat file (pdf).  If the document is already in pdf form, move on to the next step.
Next, upload the pdf file to your Google Drive workspace, which automatically puts it through an OCR conversion, Google Drive automatically recognizes the text within pdf files uploaded from iPhones.
Then open the file within Google Drive, select Open In and choose the Able2Extract app.
Select the pdf file in Able2Extract and convert it to an MS Word (docx) file, which can be opened by Pages, Word or other word processing programs.  It can also be converted to a spreadsheet or presentation MS Office format.
Finally, transfer the new docx file to the Documents app, the Dropbox app or another storage app, from which a word processing program can access it for editing.
Many apps, including Able2Extract, convert all types of files into pdf format when going the reverse direction.

    Good day Larry,
Are you referring to CreatePDF's ability to export existing PDF files to Word?  I want to confirm as Adobe CreatePDF doesn't have any sort of interface with scanners.
Let me know a bit more about how you're creating your PDF files and then how you're using the CreatePDF service and I may be able to answer your question (or at least try!)
    Kind regards,

  • Word Processing on the iPad Retina Display

    Hi There,
I've been browsing the forums for a while and have seen various threads about the WP possibilities with iPad.  I've looked at ipages and iworks, and also a couple of others which are paid apps and claim to do mostly the same things (I really only want basic word processing which I can then save and email).
Many of the apps I've tried out are SO slow to load that it's really not worth the hassle.  In particular, those which rely on iCloud, Google Drive, DropBox or Sky Drive.   On the other hand, a few of the free apps seem to have no possibility to save anywhere which is daft.  Some autosave, but woe betide you if you log off before it's done that.
I used Polaris with my Samsung Note to very good effect, it allows export in both word or PDF (or other) formats and also allows direct export from the app if you want to do that.  It's pretty basic but sufficed for my needs however there doesn't appear to be a version for the iPad sadly.
If you were about to buy an app PURELY for word processing, and required something which allowed you to email from the app, to convert to pdf (I have a pdf converting app) AND allowed you either to store the doc on the iPad (is this even possible?  I'm guessing it is as the Note allows for this and has the same memory size) or uses iCloud or Google Docs - don't really mind which.
I can't seem to find any overall opinion on which is best.  Many seem to say iPages but I'm unsure how malleable it is and I don't have an Apple computer, only a PC so I need it to be fully compatible.
Thanks for any advice, help or experience anyone feels like sharing.

Yes, I was wondering about using the Notes app too.   Hmm,  I've just been looking at some of the links on another similar question and the real problem is, the reviews are terrible for many of the Office Pro type apps.  They cost around the same as Pages and claim to do all kinds of things but Documents to Go and Doc to Go Premium are simply slated in the review sections.
Thanks very much.  I shall probably try Pages first.

  • Question re Create PDF from Word doc

    Hi
I am trying to create a pdf from a Word document (Word 2007, Acrobat 8 Professional), and am having lots of trouble with images, fonts and document overhead. With the fonts, i generate the PDF by saying Create Pdf from the plugin in Word. I specify in the Preferences that fonts are not to be embedded. I then open the PDF and access PDF Optimiser -> Audit Space Usage, and it says that fonts take up like 20% of the document, however there are only like 10 lines of text in Arial (9pt), and 6 titles also in Arial (Bold). I dont understand why Font is taking up so much space considering that i have elected not to embed fonts (if i go to the Fonts section in the Optimiser, it shows both embedded and unembedded panes blank).
With the images, i have 2 jpegs in the footer, that are compressed (JPEG -> Low). The other thing i am struggling with is the headers and footers, if i generate the PDF from the Word doc with Headers/Footers, then images take up over 15% of the document. Not sure if there is a way to add headers and footers within minimum impact of filesize? I have tried checking everything in the 3 categories of Dicard Objects, Discard User data and Clean Up. but the Document Overhead remains at 35%.
What else can i do to get these filesizes reduced?I have been researching this for days and have not come across anything that has helped.I have tried to PDF print, i have changed the font to like Courier, ensured no thumbnails or bookmarks, ensured JPEGs are not embedded in the doc, tried Save As, Save As under a different filename - basically anthing you can find on the net i have found and tried, but still cant fix this!!!! please, if anyone knows acrobate 8 better than me / or knows what the problem is, please advise????
    Thanks very much.

The colors and size in a graphic needs to be done in a graphics editor. What type of editor would depend on the use of vector graphics versus bitmap. Sometimes vector graphics are larger than bitmaps if you are using a lot of lines that would display better as just a splotch of color. Such are the variations between vector and bitmap graphics, but important if you are looking for size reduction. For a bitmap, I would do the sizing and color depth with IrfanView, but you should be able to do that with PhotoShop if you have it. Vector graphics can be adjusted in Illustrator. The size of vector graphics is not an issue since they are scalable, but the size of a bitmap is important since your are looking at individual pixels and that depends on size. The point is that if you can adjust the color depth and size for the desired pixel resolution, the bitmap is optimized for the conversion to PDF from WORD.
As I mentioned, the smallest file size job options should minimize font storage in the PDF. Checking with the PDF Optimizer does not always give you all of the fonts. I am not sure why. It is better to check the font tab in the document properties to see what has been embedded. There is a preflight macro to embed fonts, you might check to see if there is one to delete fonts (I have not checked on that). Sometimes you can play with the reprint of a PDF, but that is not an option that is generally recommended, particularly if you have any tagging or such. Of course, tagging can really bloat a PDF, but is needed for a variety of reasons such as format for saving back to WORD (not a great workflow), accessability, and related issues. In another topic, there is some discussion of the purposes of tagging and bookmarks. However, the tags and bookmarks take space if that is really an issue for you. The latter are avoided if you use the print to the Adobe PDF printer and do not use PDF Maker in the PDF creation process. Again, there is a trade-off here in terms of size and functionality, particularly accessibility compliance.
Not sure I am helping as I run on, but sort what might be useful for you.

  • Acrobat Pro 9.1 no longer creates PDFs from Word 2007

I upgraded from Acrobat 7 to 9 specifically to gain more control over settings when making PDFs from Word 2007. This worked as I had hoped until the 9.1 vulnerability upgrade was installed. Now it will no longer create PDFs from Word 2007 documents at all.
From within Word 2007, when I click on "Create PDF" (whether in the Office menu or Acrobat toolbar) it asks for a file name, but after I click "Save" does nothing. This is true even for the simplest possible document, using the "Default" settings for PDF "Preferences."
If I right click the file name of the document in Windows Explorer, with Word 2007 closed, and click on "Convert to Adobe PDF" in the menu, it starts and the staus box comes up, but after a few seconds quits and displays "An unexpected error occurred. PDFMaker was unable produce the Adobe PDF."
I can still "Save As" PDF in Word 2007, but this gives me little control over the format.
Is there any way that I can get Acobat 9.1 to do what I bought it for, and what Adobe advertises it will do?

Try printing to the Adobe PDF printer, the more fundamental process (PDF Maker is a preprocessor for the printer). If that does not work, then try with print-to-file selected. Open the file in Distiller and see if the PDF is created. If the latter happens, then check for AcroTray running in the background. It is required to automate the process and is needed by PDF Maker.

  • Edit document that was converted from PDF to Word Doc.

How do I edit a document that I converted from a PDF to a word document????? When I open my now "Word Document" it does not allow me to edit the text.

Bill, The PDF came from a scanning of a Word document, but my office did not produce the PDF and I don't know exactly how the original Word document was scanned, whether OCR was engaged at that stage, etc., but the select tool in Adobe Reader leads to the cross-hairs on the PDF. We are working without AA, and I was trying to convert the PDF back to an editable Word document through ExportPDF, with which I thought I had had some success in the past in similar circumstances (converting an image PDF back to an editable Word document). With this document, the conversion back to Word through ExportPDF has led to an uneditable Word document with text in image frames whether OCR is on or off in the PDF to Word conversion effort... and if there is a way to remove the frames in Word, but keep the text, I haven't "re"figured it out yet. For instance, triple clicking doesn't seem to do anything.
On this particular document, we've gone back to the old fashioned way of retyping the page that has the error in it ... and sticking it back in the document. (It also would have been smarter timewise for me in this case to have spent more time on tracking down the preceding Word document.)
Was I missing something in the conversion process from scanned image PDF to Word document with edit capabilities? Thanks!
    Dave

I have created an 100 page booklet in Pages, with many photographs, and much written word, can I export it to ePub, and make an electronic book, because it says that "Note: The Pages document must have been created using a word processing template"?....
Basically what I want to do is publish the document into both an eDocument, and a hard copy document. What is the best way to do this?

No Peter, this statement came right off the Apple ePub statement when outlining how to use ePub. the full context is:

ePub is an open ebook standard produced by the International Digital Publishing Forum. Pages ’09 lets you export your documents in ePub format for reading with iBooks on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
iBooks supports both ePub and PDF file formats, and you can export both from Pages.
When to use ePub or PDF
Use ePub when text is the most important part of your document, for example when you create a book, a report, a paper, a thesis, or classroom reading material.
More details on using ePubUse PDF when layout is the most important part of your document, for example when you create a brochure, a flyer, or a manual with multiple illustrations.
    More details on using PDF
Creating an ePub Document to Read in iBooks
You can export any Pages word processing document to the ePub file format for reading in an ePub reader, such as the iBooks application on the iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch. Documents created in page layout templates can’t be exported to the ePub format.
Documents exported to ePub format will look different than their Pages counterparts. If you want to get the best document fidelity between the Pages and ePub formats, style your Pages document with paragraph styles and other formatting attributes allowed in an ePub file. A sample document is provided on the Apple Support site that features styles and guidelines to help you create a Pages document that’s optimized for export to the ePub file format, which you can use as a template or a guide. To learn more about using paragraph styles in Pages, see the topics under the heading “Working with Styles” in the Pages built-in help.
To read your ePub document in iBooks on your mobile device, you must transfer the ePub file that you create onto your device.
To use the “ePub Best Practices” sample documentTo learn more about using the ePub format and get a better feel for how a Pages document might appear as a book in iBooks, it’s a good idea to download the “ePub Best Practices” sample document. After reading the guidelines and instructions within the document, you can use it as a template to create your own document. You can also import the styles from the sample document into a new document you create.
Download the “ePub Best Practices” sample document at the following web address:
    http://images.apple.com/support/pages/docs/ePub_Best_Practices_EN.zip
Do either of the following:Use the sample document as a template.Import the paragraph styles from the sample document into a new or existing Pages document.
Export the document you create to ePub format to see how it looks in iBooks.
Preparing an existing Pages document for export to ePub format
Documents exported to the ePub format automatically appear with page breaks before every chapter. A table of contents is automatically generated, which allows readers to jump quickly to any chapter title, heading, or subheading in the book. In order to create a meaningful table of contents, it’s important to apply appropriate styles within your document. The ePub reader uses the paragraph styles to determine which items should appear in the table of contents for your book.
Note: The Pages document must have been created using a word processing template.

  • I have downloaded the converter program and the conversion from PDF to Word is terrible. Is there a better solution or setting?

I am trying to convert a PDF to Word without re-typing.  I downloaded the converter program onto my MAC but the conversion was terrible.  Unusable.  Is there a better way.  I also have a PC so I could try that as well if would make any difference.

"Scanned"  Scanned anything starts you with an image / picture of the page content that was on the source paper.
There is no "renderable" text. OCR can provide an output of text that can be exported. Without that all that is exported is the image.
As to OCR, Acrobat's ClearScan lends itself to repurpose via the export process.
Regardless, anything sourced from a scanner output is the "pig's ear" and that'll not yield the "silk purse".
Export is dictated by the input (GIGO). Export output identifies input quality.
As a C Student stated a Word file (being well-built helps) that sourced the PDF will yield workable export back to Word.
PDF's sourced for FrameMaker export rather nicely.
For optimal export always start with a well-formed Tagged PDF (ISO 14289-1, PDF/UA-1 compliant).
Two core design considerations of tagged PDF are (1) support Accessible PDF and (2) support export (repurpose) of PDF content.
    Be well...

  • How do I speed up the conversion of a PDF to Word using Adobe ExportPDF?

How do I speed up the conversion of a PDF to Word using Adobe ExportPDF?

Believe me, we ALL know what you are going through!
You CAN develop your slideshow directly in iDVD and you can have multiple songs (I just figured this out myself just now! LOL). I will walk you through the process.
Firstly, open a new project in iDVD.
Then press the + button (bottom left hand side) and add slideshow and a heading "My Slideshow" will show up on your iDVD screen. Then, go into your media and press photos, and drop your folder of photos into the "My Slideshow" button (if you havent put your folders into a new album in iPhoto, now is the time to do this).
Now double click on your My Slideshow button and all your photo's should come up. Down the bottom of this page you will see some options. Slide Duration, Transition etc. Again, go into your media and select audio. Go through your playlist and hold down the apple button (next to space bar left hand side) and select the songs you want to play with your slides then drag them across to the audio button (it automatically changes the slideshow to fit to audio). The only problem I can see with this is that there is considerable "dead" time between tracks which means some slides show without music. You can easily solve this by going into Garage Band and trim off the excess "dead" time at the end of each track. If you have problems with this I can talk you through that too if you would like.
Oh and I think i read somewhere that 99 photos is the maximum you can have in iPhoto?? That could be what is causing your problem. You could always break it down in to 2 separate slide shows?
