People Search question in Ent Search 2013

There's a recommendation for breaking our s3://My_Site_host_URL into its own Content Source for People Search
How does the Seach know to connect Standard Names (ex: AnneW or A. Weiler below) to document search. Do I have to map that in Managed Properties manually, or it happens automajically?
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn535606(v=office.15).aspx
•         sps3://My_Site_host_URL, which is for crawling user profiles
However, if you are deploying "people search", we recommend that you create a separate content source for the start address sps3://My_Site_host_URL and run a crawl for that content source first. The reason for doing this is that after the crawl
finishes, the search system generates a list to standardize people's names. This is so that when a person's name has different forms in one set of search results, all results for that person are displayed in a single group (known as a result block). For example,
for the search query “Anne Weiler”, all documents authored by Anne Weiler or A. Weiler or alias AnneW can be displayed in a result block that is labeled "Documents by Anne Weiler". Similarly, all documents authored by any of those identities can
be displayed under the heading "Anne Weiler" in the refinement panel if "Author" is one of the categories there.

Hi Kali,
Form the article, it seems SharePoint search mechanism will automatically generates a list to standardize people's name. You could test it in your envrionment via the steps below:
Access Search Administration page >  Content sources.
Remove sps3://myhost in Local SharePoint sites, create a new content sources named "people", and add sps3://myhost to it. Start a full crawl.
I use Anne Weiler as example. Make sure the User Profile has been imported. Also upload some documents authored by A.Weiler or alias. Start a cremental crawl in related content resource.
Access search center, and test the issue. Use the keyword "author:Anna Weiler" "author:A.Weiler" and "author:alias" and see the results.

  • Duplicate Search Databases in SharePoint Foundation 2013 Farm

I seem to have 2 seperate issues with Search within my SharePoint Foundation 2013 Farm. This is a new Farm, so I can remove the search service application and re-create if this is a way that can clear the 2 issues I am experiencing.
    Issue 1:
For some reason I have 2 instances of the following search related DB's:
    SearchAdminDatabase
    SearchAnalyticsReportingDatabase
    SearchGathererDatabase
    SearchLinksDatabase
1 instance of each of the databases all report database status of "No Action Required" and the other instance of all the DB's report a database status of "Not Responding".
    Issue 2:
My search service application seems to be working fine as I am able to crawl content and retrieve results, however the DB's associted with this search service application are reported with the following warning within the SharePoint Health Analyzer. I have
been unable to run the Upgrade-SPContentDatabase command against these databases as I get a message saying that the content database could not be found:
    Title
Databases running in compatibility range, upgrade recommended.
    Severity
    2 - Warning
    Category
    Configuration
    Explanation
The following databases have versions that are older than the current SharePoint software, but are within the backwards compatible range:
    Search_Service_Application_AnalyticsReportingStoreDB_a3c64b2f3b9b4a5d83383ec0b1ecfcf4,
    Search_Service_Application_CrawlStoreDB_ffb8d716450242cc849a7f44f521bfc9,
    Search_Service_Application_DB_0fe433c02db6435db85285e9fd83863e,
    Search_Service_Application_LinksStoreDB_75efb2f689cf49f19c98a5a8155e47b7.
    Remedy
To achieve optimal results from these databases, use Upgrade-SPContentDatabase to upgrade Content databases, or psconfig.exe to upgrade other databases.  For more information about this rule, see "http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=142697".

At time people create search service application and delete it. SA is deleted but database were not deleted for some reason. so these might be those stale database. You can delete them if you want
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/tothesharepoint/archive/2011/12/19/find-active-databases-used-by-sharepoint-server-2010.aspx
If you want a report of all of your SharePoint databases that includes the GUIDs and related property values, use the SharePoint 2010 Management Shell.
There are several Windows PowerShell cmdlets you can use to find all of the SharePoint databases and then print this report to a text file. The quickest and perhaps easiest cmdlet is “Get-SPDatabase”. Run this cmdlet in the SharePoint
2010 Management Shell to list all of the SharePoint Server databases with properties for each one. From this potentially large list you can then obtain specific information such as the database ID by using additional syntax in your cmdlet. Similarly, also
in the SharePoint 2010 Management Shell, run “Get-SPDatabase | Sort-Object
disksizerequired -desc | Format-Table Name” and you will get a simple list of the names for each database. You can then print this list to a text file by adding, “| out-file c:\db.txt” to the end of the command.
    For detailed information, see
Windows PowerShell for SharePoint Server 2010,
    Database cmdlets,
    Get-SPDatabase, and

  • Returning more than 250 search result hits in Outlook 2013

    Hi,
I need to search over a very large amount of emails. My searches each have more than 250 hits, and I need to see all results. Currently, Outlook is limiting the number of results to 250.
I have gone to File > Options > Search, and unticked 'Improve search speed by limiting the number of results shown'.
I have also amended my registry, per this article:
    http://www.msoutlook.info/question/669.
I have restarted my machine, but I am still getting only 250 results.
Does anybody have further suggestions that I can try?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Keith
    R K Howard

    Hi,
I tested the registry setting, but it didn't work in my environment.
By default, when we do an instant research in Outlook 2013, it shows the first 30 matches. If we click
More below the results, we will get up to 250 results. However, if we clear the 'Improve search speed by limiting the number of results shown' option, Outlook will bypass the limit and show all results matched. See:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-in/outlook-help/find-a-message-with-instant-search-HA102840067.aspx
Please try to delete the registry and untick the 'Improve search speed by limiting the number of results shown' option, restart your Outlook and then check if the option will be ticked again.
We can also try to run a repair of your Office installation to check if it helps. See:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-in/outlook-help/repair-office-programs-HA010357402.aspx
Please let me know the result.

    Hi,
I'm setting up a farm to share services across differente farms but for some reason search isn't working.
I have done everything I thk i should, exchange certs, create trust relationship, publish service, service permissions, connect remote service app, s2s auth etc. I added the remote site url on the crawler, it runs without erros, then I created a result source
with remotesharepoint but when I test I get an Unauthorized (401), or when I search on my Enterprise search.
In the consumer farm I'm getting this error on the ULS:
SPApplicationAuthenticationModule: Error authenticating request, Error details: Header: 3000006;reason="Token contains invalid signature.";category="invalid_client", Body: {"error_description":"Invalid JWT token. Could not
    resolve issuer token."}
I have changed my PS command according this guy(http://steve.thelineberrys.com/following-sites-across-farms-with-sharepoint-2013-mysites/)  that had the same problem but with the UPS, without any luck.
What am I doing wrong? Does anyone had the same problem? Thks alot
    http://pontodepartilha.blogspot.com

I am now able to search and get results from the Consumer site collection (crawler runs without errors) on a Search Portal on the Publisher farm.
But everytime I try to open the Result Sources on my consumer site collection  for example I get a
"Addresses for this application have not yet been fetched."
I dont get service toplogy/permission errors on ULS, but I have tried the script harbar posted:

  • I have a iphone 5. How do I search for a event from 2013 under search? I do have "all events" selected

I have a iphone 5. How do I search for a event from 2013 under search? I do have "all events" selected

I would check, but I believe I have read that the calendar only lets you search back in the current year. You might find additional information about that in the User Guide. http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1565/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
What happens if you go back to a month in 2013, do you see a date with any events in it? I'm not saying the calendar is deleting data, just that you cannot search earlier than the current year.

  • Few questions about Spotlight searches in Leopard

I have a few questions about Spotlight searches in the menu bar & Finder in Leopard:
    1. When doing a search in the Finder window how do I get back the grouped items view? (Docs grouped together, bookmarks grouped together etc. Same as in Tiger).
    2. How do I set Spotlight searches in Finder to always default to search by 'File Name' instead of 'Contents' & in the folder I'm in rather than 'This Mac'?
    3. In the Spotlight menu bar results how do I disable dictionary meaning for things I type in there?

    Jono H
    Can't answer them all:
    1. Sort on 'Kind' - click the Kind header
    2. If you're in a Folder and want to do a filename search, don't use spotlight, just start to type the name... So, if you're in Applications, just type iwo and you'll get your iWork...
    3. ... I have no idea

  • Itunes search question

    Hi all,
I'm encountering a problem using the search field in new iTunes 12. Let's say I want to find the Title "Beat It" of "Michael Jackson" but I don't quite remember it exactly. I used to be able to put into the search field "Jackson beat" and I'd get suggestions in a little dropdown box right beneath the search field. Since iTunes 12 I don't get these suggestions anymore. I found them very handy. Is there a way to get them back?
    Thanks
    Jan

I still get the suggestions in iTunes 12. However, I noticed if I click on the drop down arrow next to the magnifying glass in the left side of the search field and deselect "Search Entire Library" then the suggestions are disabled too.

  • User Search question!!!

    Hi all
I am wanting to include a basic search iview in our portal for users to search for other users details. However I am unsure about the best way of doing this, all I require it 3 or 4 text fields for department, name, address etc. and a search button.
Can anyone let me know the best way of doing this, I was told Web Dynpro is good and apparentely there is a tutorial on how to do this but I cant find it anywhere?
    Thanks for your help
    Phil

    hi,
If you have installed trex along with portal , you could actually use who's who iview to include basic user search.
Have a look at the documentation
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/05/a62c42de59da2ce10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm
or else you have to use UME api's to implement user search function. The UME provides several methods to search for users, groups and roles with different attributes. The search is performed with search filters.

  • Belonging To Search Criteria in Document Search

    Hi,
I have been trying to find an explanation of the search terms "Me", "My Team", "My Group", "My Company" and "My Responsibilty Group" that are available within the document search.
Having investigated the search results that are returned I cannot work out the logic.  If anyone can assist, then points will be awarded.  Many thanks,
    Jon

    Hi,
GO to SPRO->Customer Relationship Management->>>Customer Relationship Management>Application Element->Search Group>Define Search Criteria Selection/Define Search Variant Selection
Groups of different search criteria can be provided in the advanced search. In Account Management for example, you can search for customers according to address fields or corresponding contact partners. The required search fields are always determined from the selection of two dropdown boxes. These are the search fields By-Shuffler and Show-Shuffler.
You define the selection options for the search criteria selection. This search field is in the advanced search of the People-Centric UI. You define requested data for the selection, that is a specific field group with the selection. You can group the search criteria that you have specified under Search Group Structure. They are listed in a dropdown box.
    Activities
    1. Select New Entries.
    2. Enter a user-defined identifier for the search criteria in the By-Shuffler column.
    3. Enter a description for the search criteria in the Description column.
    reward points if helps

  • I dowloard a book sample to iBook. I then deleted it and bought the book and downloaded it. The search engine will only search the 45-page sample and not the full book. How do I get iBook to search the full book?

I downloaded a book sample to iBook. I deleted it and then bought the full book and downloaded it. The search engine keeps only searching the sample, about 50 pages, and not the full book. How do I get the search engine to search the full book?

  • What character splits search terms (for different search result tabs), searching from the search box.

When we type in a search term, in the search box, the results can be shown in a tab. But how can you split search terms while entering them all at once, each search term providing results in a new tab.
"Search Term|Search Term Two", using |;\ etc only sends the term in entirety beyond. What does this box handle and how to make it open two tabs when given two separated search terms.
So what is this special character or setting?
    Thank You

Thank u so Bruce , I finally found an answer to my question.
The solution u provided looks complete except that i am confused by the meaning of strField , may i didnt provide more details in my  post .
The strField var i provided earlier was not meant to be placed in my code  , the correct one is shown below .However , the strField means according to me is the field against which the search operation should take place based on the ( search Term )
    the user provided .
Here is the code after applying the solution u suggested :
    'Information collected from the user
     strWhereToSearch = IIf(.framSearchIn.Value = 1, "[quknotSubject]", "[quknotBody] ")
    strCondition = strWhereToSearch & "  Like '* " & strTextSearch & " *' OR " & _
    strWhereToSearch & " Like '" & strTextSearch & " *' OR " & _
    strWhereToSearch & "Like '* " & strTextSearch & "'"
    'Fill result search  Recordset
    strSql = " Select  * from qryExtraTool_QuickNoteSubCatMainCat   "
    strSql = strSql & " WHERE   " & strCondition & "  ORDER BY quknotDate"
'Control Source for the text box to display matches. ( Highlight the search word )
    txtQuickNoteBody = SearchHilight(strWhereToSearch, strTextSearch)
Tell me if my implementation to your code is right ?
    Thank u again Bruce ...

  • Search Logic in Knowledge Search ?

    Hi Experts,
I log in with IC_AGENT business role. In knowledge Search workcentre link, I passed the text as a* in search term on "Text Search" tab, then on "Attribute Search" tab i selected knowledge base as solution database, category as validation category and selected the attribute. Now i have some conditions where i want to refine the search result that is coming.
I did some investigation and found that it is related to knowledge base configuration in the system, but not sure how to do it and where to do it ?
    Regards,
    Raman

And one more suggestion to the <b>Search Engine</b> would be, it should not be fetching all the replies to a particular post as separate search results.
For eg: Lets say User A has posted a topic say "Issues with RFC", all replies to this need not be fetched, just the starting topic would be great and an icon indicating whether the question has been answered(or relevant status).
Thanks Gregor for pointing that out, got psyched out, at first, but nevertheless, learnt something new.

  • How to search .java files by Search tool in NWDS or any other tool?

    Hi All,
I can easily search .JSP files by NWDS's Search tool, but I have a hard time to search Java files by this tool.  Can anyone guide me how to search Java files which contain a specified string by using Search tool in NWDS? or any other tool?
    Thanls. Jin

    Hi Jin,
You can search Custom Java files with NWDS Search tool for specified string. But not standard Java files.
Suppose you have extend z_userR3 base on UserR3 and contains string some help then you can click on search in NWDS
Then click on File it will open Search box with 4 tag
    1. File Search
    2. Help Search
    3. Java Search
    4. Plug-in Search
Click on File Search tab and provide the text in Containing text input box and give java file name with wild characters like  *.java
Select Workspace under Scope and hit search button. It will search string in your custom Java file. This method will not search string in Standard Java classes of SAP.
If you want to search in standard SAP  java classes then you should know about what you are searching i.e. whether it is field, Method, Package, Constructor and Type  select proper radio button under Search For box then tryo to select proper radio button under Limit To if you want to search everywhere then select All Occurrences. You should select Workspace under Scope.
Suppose nothing comes after selected Type then go for other option one by one Method, Field etc...
Expert people will give you more information.
I hope this will help you.
    Regards.
