Percentages from Numerical Values Assigned to Text

I am new to Excel and am having trouble with what I thought would be a simple formula.  I am trying to create a formula that will find the percentage of text in a single column.  Example, I am looking for the percentage of "Yes" to "No"
values in a column, and am not sure if I should assign a numerical value and then try and create a formula that will calculate the percentage. I have had no luck so far, any help would be much appreciated.

Assuming the yes/no values are in column A, the following formula with give the percentage of 'yes' entries in that column:
=COUNTIF(A:A,"yes")/COUNTA(A:A)*100
If you format the result as %, omit the *100.

  • Searching for numeric values in a text field / SQL Server

    Hi all,
    here's a problem that I've been trying to solve for several days: I try to select rows from an MS SQL Server via JDBC that contain a certain numeric value at a certain position in a long varchar field.
    I'm using queries like
    select * from table where substring(field_1, 37, 7) like '1011234';Those queries always return an empty ResultSet. If I use the same queries in WinSQL, I get correct results (several rows).
    The application code is working in principle; if I search for a text instead of a numeric value, for example select * from table where substring(field_1, 4, 5) like 'Paper'; , I get a complete ResultSet.
    I've tried many variations (= instead of like, search in the entire field (without substring but with like '%1011234%'), with or without ', and more), but that didn't change anything.
    It's also most probably not caused by the JDBC driver; I have tried JTDS first, and then the MS driver (newest versions) - no difference.
    One idea was that the sort order is not correct, tried some COLLATE settings, but that didn't help so far. In this context I'd like to know how to determine the collation sequence of a certain column.
    Another thing I tried was using CAST, for example SELECT * FROM table WHERE CAST(SUBSTRING(field_1, 37, 7) as bigint) = CAST('1011234' as bigint); or SELECT * FROM table WHERE CAST(SUBSTRING(field_1, 37, 7) as bigint) = CAST(1011234 as bigint);, but that didn't help either.
    Some facts:
    Server: Microsoft SQL Server, version 09.00.2047
    Driver in WinSQL: SQLSRV32.DLL, version 03.85.1117
    JDBC-Driver:
    - JTDS, version 1.2
    - Microsoft SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver, Version 1.2
    JVM: jre1.5.0_11

    Your note suggests to me that this is a coding problem, not a JDBC or SQL problem unless you are hitting a bug in the SQL Server JDBC driver. Others may have ideas from what you have written, but I think it would be helpful to see the actual code that you are executing that does not bring back the results that you are expecting (don't forgot to use code tags to format your code correctly).
    It might also be helpful to execute a query (from within your Java code) to ensure that you are connecting to the right database, accessing the correct table and that your substring is using the correct offset. The query would look something like this (and then of course display the list of results):
    SELECT substring(field_1, 37, 7) from table

    here is the code.. (assuming 10000 in the following code is your seconds, replace that with your value...)

    Above will give only h:m:s format if hh (or) mm (or) ss are between 0 and 9. So, you may need to add case when condition before each concatenation: if hh is between 0 and 9 then need to concatenate with 0 else the same code...

    I have a VI which converts a digital signal into a speed based on the number of pulses per revolution. What I would like to do is now output that numeric value as a scaled 0-5V channel. I have tried to use the DAQassistant as with all of my other analogue outputs but it gives a buffer error. I know it can't be that hard to implement, can someone point me in the right direction...

  • How can I validate numeric values in a text field?

    Once more I have a problem.
    I have a field in which the user should enter 10 digits in the pattern 999999-9999. The field must only contain numeric data and must be exactly 10 characters. I have a validation script on the print button, that prevent printing if required fields are empty or not properly filled out.
    I have tried two ways to work this out, and I'm not satisfied with any of them, as I can still print despite of validation scripts and warning messages.
    1.
    I set the field to numeric, limited to 11 characters.
    Display pattern num{999999-9999}, edit pattern num{999999-9999} and validation pattern num{999999-9999}
    Problems using this solution: When I type 11 digits in the field (ex.12345612345) I get a warning message and 12.345.612.
    But when I type 9 digts (ex. 123456-123 or 123456123) I get no warning message and 000000-0000 or 012345-6123
    If I type alphabetical characters (ex. 123456-abcd) I get no warning message and 000000-0000.
    2.
    I set the field to text field, limited to 11 characters.
    Display pattern text{999999-9999}, edit pattern text{999999-9999} and validation pattern text{999999-9999}
    Now when I type 11 digits in the field (ex.12345612345) I get no warning message and 12345612345.
    When I type 9 digts (ex. 123456-123) I get no warning message and 123456-123
    When I type 9 digts (ex. 123456123) I get a warning message and 123456123
    If I type alphabetical characters (ex. 123456-abcd) I get a warning message and 123456-abcd.
    It works slightly better as a text field, but I am not satisfied at all.
    Has anyone a solution to this?
    Additional I would also like the hyphen to emerge automatically when typing.

    So, I've developed a 3d carousel using this tutorial and the  XML, and customized the XML in Dreamweaver.

    Now,  I've got the carousel set up exactly the way I would like, but the only  trouble, is how do I add numeric values as the text for the xml file???

    For  example, in my XML, if I would like the text to be "3d images", when I  export the FLA, only "d images" comes through because the numeric  values can't be added as the text for the tooltip.
    Does anyone  have any ideas?
    Here is an example of how the XML is loaded into  the .swf - the text loads great, but just not the numeric characters.
    The  same story can be said for special characters, I would like to know how  to add a "&" sign too.

    Thanks a lot for the reply.  Your post got me thinking that it's actually a flash problem, as the actual descriptor text shows 123,etc and "&".
    The trouble is that the icons are dynamically loaded from the XML to movie clips on the flash file.  I've asked the flash forum to see if they could take a look.

    Hi all,
    I am printing some text in the form. The text is in the database table and is retrieved. say the field name is fld06 in the table ztfin. Previously it is code as &zfin-fld06& in the form edotir. Now my requiremnet is to dispay some other text where ever I have to print ztfin-fld06. I have used the define statement in this way :
    /: DEFINE &ztfin-fld06& = 'Data Fattura'
    But when I look at the output the text is not replaced nor it is realised while I am debugging. Can anyone tellme where I am going wrong ?

  • Send numeric value in relative time format to text file

    Hi, I'm trying to send a numeric value to a text file (.txt). However, this value must be in Relative Time format, which is displayed correctly in my front panel but not in my text file. The text file displays  it as an integer-.
    I know that this can be achieved by sending a string instead of a numeric value, but the thing is, I'm sending other numeric values along with this one, which means ALL the data must be numeric in order for Labview to send it, since it does not seem to accept a polimorphic array of data.
    Any suggestions?

  • Build an array with 2 values assigned to 1 dimension

    I am wanting to build a 1D array where two values are assigned to each dimension.  For example:
    Index 0 would have a 1 and 4 assigned to it
    Index 1 would have a 2 and 3 assigned to it
    Index 2 would have a 0 and 1 assigned to it.
    Then I can unbundle this arrayand grab the two values for index 0, index 1, etc....  I want to put this array inside a typedef control.  Is this possible?

    Thanks for the replies.  I considered using a cluster and had the typedef control modified to include the cluster.  I may just go back to this method if this is the simplest for the code I am modifiing.
    A 2D array assigns two values i.e. row and column to one number.  I need it the other way around.
    Here is what I am trying to do.  I need to control a rotary valve.  I am using compact filedpoint to control the rotary valve.  The valve requires a pulse (1 then 0) for the rotary valve to move 1 position. If the valve is on channel 1 of the fieldpoint module and I want it to turn to position 2, the I send two pulses to channel 1. 
    My thinking is I will have two values associated per rotary valve... a channel and a pulse value. So for example, valve 0 has a Boolean and a numeric value assigned to it in an array. Although, it doesn't have to be a boolean and a numeric.  it could be 2 numeric values for simplicity.
    I hope this makes sense because without knowing this posting a VI or image is useless.  Its the chicken before the egg thing. :-)

For example, in cell A5 I have a dropdown list that includes the options "blue", "red", "white", and "gold." I want cell C15 to be 2 if A5="blue"; I want C15 to be 0 if A5="red"; I want C15 to be 2 if A5="white"; and, I want C15 to be 1 if A5="gold."

    This is a job for LOOKUP.
    The expression for the Result cell is: =LOOKUP(A2, Lookup :: A1:A4, Lookup :: B1:B4)
    The aux. table contains the matches that you assign for the colors.

    I need to be able to assign numerical values (Table Value £ of set up) to text cells (Set Up).
    1. The table "Combinations" then uses the formula

    to take info from the "Information" table and create all possible permutations of "Set Up"
    2."List" is the printed list of "Combinations"
    3."Output of list" concatenates the data from "List".

    4. How do I print out the total numerical value of the concatenated string of "Output of List" into Output (£) of List"?

    my text field item is :P202_AMOUNT. How do I assign the number that is entered into this item to a PLS_INTEGER variable? I have attempted to uss this line of code but it hasn't worked:

    Stefano,
    The code you showed will work in the declaration section of a PL/SQL block that is part of your application's metadata (region, process, computation, etc.). Perhaps you are attempting to compile such a block externally using the bind variable. If that is the case, try v('P202_AMOUNT') instead. Or maybe your question is about format masks... How about giving us a bit more to go on?

    I have searched and searched thru a million articles but there does not seem to be a simple way to do this, and I hope like heck that I am just overthinking it.  I tend to fall back on years of coding and completely miss a simple answer when doing this

    I'm developing a scorecard.  I have a list that has a form on it that asks a series of questions on it.  Some are yes/no.
    I want to assign the numerical value of "1" to "yes", and "0" to "No".
    This is so that when I create the actual scorecard, I can add up all the answers and generate a calculated score.
    Example:
    Was this incident properly classified?
    [Dropdown]
    Yes
    No
    Do I need an extra column assigning the values?  Can I assign the values within the column itself? Any assistance will be really helpful. 

    there are several options:
    - calculated column with something along the lines of =IF([dropdowncolumn] = "YES", 1, 0)
    - separate lookup list with values
    - if you're using infopath, your column could be numeric, and just use a DropDown as the visualization, and populate the DDL with key/values of "Yes"/1 and "No"/0 (though in this case, when viewing the list as a native grid, the column
    would only show 1/0, not "yes / no"
    - depending on how you're creating the scorecard, use a yes/no (boolean) column and just convert during the calculation

    Then you will have to create a when-validate-item trigger with a cursor based on your selection of your LOV . Loop through that cursor assigning the next in the next record by using the built-in function next_record. (put you selection for you value in a hidden item for example.

    I've tried this one already.
    I tried to leave it blank, & nbsp ; , text,... but the problem is that our lov is build by a function and it always returns a query, so the LOV is never null.
    I figured something out: made a process after header that has some cursors to get the values from the database and changed the item to a simple display as text-field. There were only 4 that were wrong, so it wasn't to much work.
