Performance degradation of Weblogic 5.1 sp 6 when used with Peoplesoft 8

Recenly we have upgraded from Peoplesoft 7 to Peoplesoft 8.
There is performance degradation of the weblogic 5.1 sp 6 (on Windows 2000 ) when
the no of users increases to 2000. Besides the weblogic wont even shutdown completely
when trying to shutdown.
Weblogic customer support advised to upgrade to sp 8 but sp 8 wont support 128
bit encription which peoplesoft 8 need.
Any of you had such an experience ? Please let me know if there is a solution
or workaround.
Thanks in advance.
Mani

There shouldn't be any reason that 5.1 SP9 wouldn't support 128 bit
encryption. If that's the issue, you should post in the security
newsgroup or contact [email protected]

Peoplesoft customer support advised to upgrade to Weblogic 5.1 sp 9 but sp 9 wont
support 128 bit encription which Peoplesoft 8.1.2 application need. Peoplesoft
8.1.3 will be supporting 128 bit encription after some 3 months. We have to get

sp 9) in the mean time.

  • Performance degradation in j2sdk1.4 than jdk1.3 for jdbc with oracle

    Hi All
    I am working on performance issues regarding response time . i have upgraded my system from jdk1.3 to j2sdk1.4 . I was expecting the performance gain in terms of response time in j2sdk1.4. but to my surprise it shows varied results with my application. it shows that j2sdk1.4 is taking higher time for executing the application when it has to deal with database. I am using oracle 9i as the backend database server.
    if any body has the idea about, why j2sdk1.4 is showing higher responce time while interacting with database as compare to jdk1.3. then do let me know this.
    Thanx in advance

    I'm not sure about the error you're getting, but you might want to try a few things:
    1) Try the thin driver instead of the oci driver. The thin driver is all java, while the oci requires an Oracle client installation (which might be why your getting the memory error). I think the only programming difference is the URL, so if you need to switch later it should be relatively easy.
    2) Instead of DriverManager.registerDriver(), try Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver").newInstance();
    3) I know this sounds bad, but try throwing some print statements in to see how far you're getting.
    Here a quick sample. And remember to include the classes111.zip in your classpath.
    import java.sql.*;
    public class OracleTest {
      public static void main(String args[]) {
        try {
          Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver").newInstance();
          Connection c = DriverManager.getConnection(
                      "jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:orcl","scott","tiger");
          System.out.println("Got connection.");
          c.close();
       } catch (Exception e) {
          System.out.println("Error: " + e);

    The above is the jrockit crash dump file..
    I am using the JMS Wrapper Connection Poooling provided by Weblogic. When i use Jmeter and do the load testing for around 10 users, the server gets crashed.
    I doubt something is going wrong with the Weblogic JMS Connection Pooling, please help me..

    The problem doesn't look like it has anything to do with wappers per se. The stack indicates that the JVM died when the persistent store tried to invoke a standard Java synchronize operation. JVM crashes need to be analyzed by a JVM expert, so I second the suggestion to solicit help from JVM experts and/or filing a case with customer support. In the mean-time, you can probably work-around the issue by either (A) ensuring you have a recent version of the JVM installed, or (B) temporarily switching to the Sun JVM.

    Now what exactly would be the point of putting a SELECT FOR UPDATE in an autonomous transaction?
    I think OP should start by considering why he has a function with an undesirable side effect in the first place.

  • Performance issue: stmt.execute() takes a long time when using Oracle objs

    Folks,
    I have a PL/SQL API that returns a REF CURSOR over an Oracle object that contains other objects. In the JDBC layer, when I do a stmt.execute(), it takes about 1.2s for this statement to run while the execution of the PL/SQL API in the database takes only about 100ms or so. When I connect to a database that is physically located really far away, the delta here increases (perhaps due to the network latency).
    I believe it is not as efficient to use Oracle ADTs in conjunction with JDBC. However, not using an Oracle object and replacing that with a bunch of linear arrays is not really an option for me considering the amount of change involved and what a maintenance nightware that would be. At the same time, I need to get this to perform better. Any thoughts?
    I suspect that there are a number of network round trips with Oracle objects are involved. If that is infact true, what are my options?
    I use Oracle 10g, and the Oracle JDBC thin driver. Thanks.

    I have an Oracle object that has say 3 fields - number, number and number_table (indexed table of numbers). Right now, I return a REF CURSOR and do a getObject() in the java layer. But, I want to try and change this so that I return linear arrays (meaning, all these fields are not embedded in an Oracle object). Dont know if that would make things quicker but wanted to check to see if there were other alternatives.
    Also, can I define a procedure that returns an OUT parameter which is an indexed table, and then do a registerOutParameter(<index>, OracleTypes.ARRAY)? I tried that but it gives me a PLS-00306 error (wrong number of types of arguments).

  • Outlook 2010 performance much slower than 2007 and 2003 when used with POP3 mail provider over slow network connection

    When received messages include embedded pictures, Outlook 2010 does not persist those pictures in the .pst file with the message text.  Instead, it redownloads the pictures every time the message is rendered for viewing or printing.
    Send/Receive to replicate a message with multiple embedded pictures from POP3 mail server (not Exchange server)
    Select and view the message - notice all the x placeholders for the embedded pictures
    Right-click any x placeholder and select to "download pictures"
    After some delay, the pictures are rendered, replacing the placeholders, to form the complete message
    Now, select "File" and "Print" -- notice that the preview is not immediately displayed.  There is a delay while thos same embedded pictures are downloaded, again.  Sometimes there will be a pop-up notification that Outlook is "communicating with
    the server"
    Eventually the message is fully rendered with all embedded pictures
    Now, select a different printer -- notice that the preview disappears and it takes time to .... yes, redownload those same pictures, again.
    Finally, click on "Print" -- notice yet another delay for a final download to rerender the message for the printer.
    Having done all that, close Outlook, disconnect from the network (turn off wireless or disconnect wire), open Outlook and view that same message.  The x placeholders are shown instead of the embedded pictures.  Although those embedded pictures
    were downloaded multiple times already, they were not persisted locally.
    Outlook 2003 and 2007 correct ask for confirmation to save the pictures locally then does so.  Printing and viewing is then possible without having to redownload those pictures.
    Is there going to be a fix for this Outlook 2010 defect?   I've been waiting, applying updates, and waiting.....

    Please do not close this thread.  The issue remains.  I apologize for not checking back sooner.  I thought I would get pinged by email when this tread was updated;  I did not.  I'll monitor more closely in the future.
    First, please note that I explicitly set Outlook to NOT download pictures automatically.  I want to be prompted to download.  However, after confirmed that I want the download, I expect pictures related to the message to be downloaded only once,
    immediately after I confirm that I want them downloaded.
    I have confirmed many times that the behavior in this area is NOT identical between 2003, 2007 and 2010.  In particular, 2007 does download once and store locally (if user confirms to save changes when prompted), as expected, and 2010 downloads each
    view/preview/print.
    This is quite easy to verify -- simply unplug any network cable, disable wireless, etc.  In other words completely detach from the networked world.  2007 will correctly view/preview/etc. from local storage whereas 2010 always reverts to showing
    placeholders for any embedded images.  This is 100% repeatable.
    As an additional verification, simply move the .pst file to another system that is not connected to any network.  Open the .pst file with 2007 and any embedded images that were already downloaded (and saved) are there, with 2010 they are not.
    With 2010, it is bad enough that embedded images are not saved for viewing when disconnected.  Worse than that, the repeated downloads can be a significant disruption to performance.  Just get on a really slow wireless connection as is typical
    in some hotels.  Then try to view and print messages with lots of embedded pictures.  Slow takes on a whole new, even slower, meaning.
    This 2010 defect has been reproduced.  Is there a KB article, Windows Update, hotfix,.... anything available to eliminate this problem of repeated downloads of embedded pictures?

  • Performance degradation factor 1000 on failover???

              Hi,
              we are gaining first experience with WLS 5.1 EBF 8 clustering on
              NT4 SP 6 workstation.
              We have two servers in the cluster, both on same machine but with
              different IP adresses (as it has to be)!
              In general it seems to work: we have a test client connecting to
              one of the servers and
              uses a stateless test EJB which does nothing but writing into weblogic.log.
              When this server fails, the other server resumes to work the client
              requests, BUT VERY VERY VERY SLOW!!!
              - I should repeat VERY a thousand times, because a normal client
              request takes about 10-30 ms
              and after failure/failover it takes 10-15 SECONDS!!!
              As naive as I am I want to know: IS THIS NORMAL?
              After the server is back, the performance is also back to normal,
              but we were expecting a much smaller
              performance degradation.
              So I think we are doing something totally wrong!
              Do we need some Network solution to make failover performance better?
              Or is there a chance to look closer at deployment descriptors or
              weblogic.system.executeThreadCount
              or weblogic.system.percentSocketReaders settings?
              Thanks in advance for any help!
              Fleming

    See http://www.weblogic.com/docs51/cluster/setup.html#680201
              Basically, the rule of thumb is to set the number of execute threads ON
              THE CLIENT to 2 times the number of servers in the cluster and the
              percent socket readers to 50%. In your case with 8 WLS instances in the
              cluster, add the following to the java command line used to start your
              client:
              -Dweblogic.system.executeThreadCount=16
              -Dweblogic.system.percentSocketReaders=50
              Hope this helps,

  • Performance Degradation from SSL

    I have read articles which are showing that performance could go down to
    1/10 with certain servers (Reference
    http://isglabs.rainbow.com/isglabs/shperformance/SHPerformance.html) when
    using SSL.
    I am cuurently using WebLogic 4.5. Can anybody tell me what kind of
    performance degradation would I see if I switch all my transactions from
    normal unsecure http transactions to secure ones (SSL V3)?
    Any help appreciated.
    best regards, Andreas

    Andreas,
    Internal benchmarks (unofficial) have shown SSL to be 65-80% slower than
    typical connections. So, anywhere between 3 to 5 times slower. This is the
    same across all http servers.
    In Denali (the next release), we're adding a performance pack enhancement
    that includes native code impls of some of our crypto code. This should
    show large speedups when it's released in March.
    Thanks!

  • Performance degradation encountered while running BOE in clustered set up

    Problem Statement:
    We have a clustered BOE set up in Production with 2 CMS servers (named boe01 and boe02) . Mantenix application (Standard J2EE application in a clustered set up) points to these BOE services hosted on virtual machines to generate reports. As soon as BOE services on both boe01 and boe02 are up and running , performance degradation is observed i.e (response times varies from 7sec to 30sec) .
    The same set up works fine when BOE services on boe02 is turned off i.e only boe01 is up and running.No drastic variation is noticed.
    BOE Details : SAP BusinessObjects environment XIR2 SP3 running on Windows 2003 Servers.(Virtual machines)
    Possible Problem Areas as per our analysis
    1) Node 2 Virtual Machine Issue:
    This currently being part of the Production infrastructure, any problem assessment testing is not possible.
    2) BOE Configuration Issue
    Comparison  report to check the build between BOE 01 and BOE 02 - Support team has confirmed no major installation differences apart from a minor Operating System setting difference.Question being is there some configuration/setting that we are missing ?
    3) Possible BOE Cluster Issue:
    Tests in staging environment  ( with a similar clustered BOE setup ) have proved inconclusive.
    We require your help in
    - Root cause Analysis for this problem.
    - Any troubleshooting action henceforth.
    Another observation from our Weblogic support engineers for the above set up which may or may not be related to the problem is mentioned below.
    When the services on BOE_2 are shutdown and we try to fetch a particular report from BOE_1 (Which is running), the following WARNING/ERROR comes up:-

    We see the above warning coming 2 or 3 times before the request is processed and then we see the report. We have checked our config's for the cluster but didn't find anything concrete.
    Is this a normal behavior of the software or can we optimize it?
    Any assistance that you can provide would be great

    Rahul,
    I have exactly the same problem running BO 3.1 SP3 in a 2 machine cluster on AIX.  Exact same full install on both machines.  When I take down one of the machines the performance is much better.
    An example of the problem now is that when i run the command ./ccm.sh -display -username administrator -password xxx on the either box when they are both up and running, I sometimes receive a timeout error (over 15mins)
    If I run SQLplus direct on the boxes to the CMS DB then the response is instant.  Tnspings of course shows no problems
    When I bring down one of the machines and run the command ./ccm.sh -display again then this brings back results in less than a minute...
    I am baffled as to the problem so was wondering if you found anything from your end
    Cheers
    Chris

  • Performance Degrades w/ Log Rotation On

    I am running WLS 7.0 on Solaris 8. We are running an application in a single
    weblogic server instance. We are using this environment to do functionality testing
    of our application. When we turn on log rotation (generate 5 logs w/ max of 500K)
    performance severely degrades. As soon as we turn off log rotation and use a
    single log file the performance returns to acceptable levels.
    Does anyone have a clue as to why this happens and if there is something that
    can be done to correct this problem?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Performance Degradation of HR Disco reports after upgrade from 1158 - 11510

    Hi there
    Has anyone else seen a degradation in performance between 4i and 10.1.2 on apps HR modules? Or indeed not against HR modules.
    Following an upgrade from 1158 to 11510 we have seen significant downturn in performance of long standing HR reports. We are using Discoverer desktop in both cases and have a query that is scheduled overnight and usually completed in 2 hours using 4i against the 1158. Now it's taking more like 15 or more using discoverer 10.1.2 against the 11510 environment. We have tested using 4i against 11510 environment and this performs fine, in fact better than it used to in 1158, so it looks like Discoverer 1012 is causing the downturn in performance.
    Anyone got anything to share on this??
    Cheers, Kate

    Kaubon,
    There is a difference between oracle 9i and 10g database.
    If you are using optimizer_features_enable="9.2.0.8" to revert back to the old behavior then you are not utilizing the updated feature of 10g. You are making 10g to follow 9i behavior.
    It is just like buying a new car and damaging it to get the feel of your old car.
    We had the similar problem, but we fine tune all our queries according to 10g. Main problem was use of rules. You need to either remove those rules or modify those rules.
    There are few good documents of 10g performance on metalink. You can refer to that.
    All the best.

    we've looked at this more...
    the explain plans were exactly the same between 4i and 10.1.2 so it wasn't to do with the aggregation strategy. seems it was due to the 10g database upgrade (set a DB parameter called optimizer_features_enable="9.2.0.8" to revert back to the old behaviour).
    also a number of required E-Business database initialisation parameters were missing

  • Performance degradation with addition of unicasting option

    We have been using the multi-casting protocol for setting up the data grid between the application nodes with the vm arguments as
    *-Dtangosol.coherence.clusteraddress=${Broadcast Address} -Dtangosol.coherence.clusterport=${Broadcast port}*
    As the certain node in the application was expected in a different sub net and multi-casting was not feasible, we opted for well known addressing with following additional VM arguments setup in the server nodes(all in the same subnet)
    *-Dtangosol.coherence.machine=${server_name} -Dtangosol.coherence.wka=${server_ip} -Dtangosol.coherence.localport=${server_port}*
    and the following in the remote client node that point to one of the server node like this
    *-Dtangosol.coherence.wka=${server_ip} -Dtangosol.coherence.wka.port=${server_port}*
    But this deteriorated the performance drastically both in pushing data into the cache and getting events via map listener.
    From the coherence logging statements it doesn't seems that multi-casting is getting used atleast with in the server nodes(which are in the same subnet).
    Is it feasible to have both uni-casting and multi-casting to coexist? How to verify if it is setup already?
    Is performance degradation in well-known addressing is a limitation and expected?

    Hi Mahesh,
    From your description it sounds as if you've configured each node with a wka list just including it self. This would result in N rather then 1 clusters. Your client would then be serviced by the resources of just a single cache server rather then an entire cluster. If this is the case you will see that all nodes are identified as member 1. To setup wka I would suggest using the override file rather then system properties, and place perhaps 10% of your nodes on that list. Then use this exact same file for all nodes. If I've misinyerpreted your configuration please provide additional details.
    Thanks,
    Mark
