Performance of LOV

Hi Gurus,
I have created an LOV.The performance of the query inside the LOV is fine...but the problem come after i select a value....it takes almost a minute for the value to get reflected on the page for the first time....but on subsequent selection its working fine.
Please suggest me some solution :(
Regards
Srikanth

Hi Sumit,
I have checked the plan of the query of the LOV.The cost of the query is only 29.
Also one more thing...this is an idependant LOV but based on the value of this LOV there are 4 denpendent LOV which i have configured declaratively as given in the training document.Of these 4 LOV only for one LOV the programmatic query option is set to false and for the other 3 it is set to true.
Does this has got something to do with the performance of the independent LOV.
Where can i check the log file?

  • How to perform Product LOV filtering in iSupport 11.5.10

    Hi
in iSupport Service Request pages , there is a product LOV field at step identify problem. This LOV is listing all the products which are coming from inventory, but we have a requirement that only specific product containing words such as %RT% should be displayed in LOV, when user clicks on LOV icon.
How to modify this LOV query to filter for the specified requirement, where i can get the qurey for this LOV.
    any suggesstions please
    Thanks

    Hi Tapash
I came to know as per metalink Note 308089.1, this profile option is Obsolete in iSupport 11.5.10 upgrade. Currently we are using 11.5.10 upgrade.
Then how can we make Product LOV to list products only from Install Base, right now it is listing from inventory.
There is no external profile option provided, as the profile options
Oracle iSupport: Create Service Request Product Options
    Oracle iSupport: Enforce product selection
are Obsolete in iSupport 11.5.10 upgrade.
    any idea plz

  • Performance issue if lots of LOVs

    Hi,
we have htmldb 1.5 installed in which we have several workspaces. One of the workspaces hosts several (about 20 ) applications. One of the applications has 40-50 LOVs. If I log into the workspace with ADMIN user and navigate to the Builder and choose the application which has lots of LOVs and try to click the LOVs tab it first hangs for ages and finally errors with page not found. This warning appears into the apache error_log:
mod_plsql: Long running URL [pls/grp/f] timed out
Can you please advice on any steps we could do to improve performance on LOV admin page. Overall performance with other applications and htmldb in general is fine. We only have issue with this one application which has large number of LOVs. Can you also advice if it is possible to remove LOVs by removing them directly from the htmldb tables as we are not able to remove through htmldb website.
    thanks!
    Nina

    Hi,
thanks for looking into this thread!
This issue was caused by too small buffer cache in the database.
Db_cache_size was set to bigger value and few other parameters
adjusted. This fixed the issue with the LOVs screen.
    thanks,
    Nina

  • Replacement of OAF LOV with Java\JSP screens?

    Hi All,
Am facing performance issue in one of my LOV. Query has been tuned at its best but still behaving worse.
Got an idea of embed\invoke the jsp\java screens which can query the data faster. If anyone had already tried this, please let me know your experience. Or If you foresee any impact due to this design, please throw your opinion on this. Thanks.
    Regards, Soorya

I would suggest to tune at the OAF side if query is already tuned.
There are many parameters on VO wizard that can be used to tune the performance of LOV VO.
    Advanced View Object Techniques:

  • Jcombobox used for both LOV as well as navigating row set

    Hello,
I'm trying to achieve the functionality where a JCombobox can have both JULOVClientBinding and JUNaviationBinding... If I set both the combobox with both the models I get a BC4J JBO-34004 exception.
The tried just setting up the combox with just the JUNavigationBinding and listen to listenselection events.
    to perform the lov functinality.
But it turn out I get the event before the JUNavigation binding has had a chance to move the cursor...so I get the wrong row's data in the view object.
Any ideas on how I may go about achieving this functinality?

These bindings are designed to work independently and not in conjunction in one control!
You may want to provide more details on your usecase so that we may provide suggestions.
One could be to bind using Lov binding and then use the list itemChanged event to also perform navigation.

  • No data in Report parameter inspite of Scheduling of List of Values

    Hi,
In the Business View Manager, I have created a Business View and LOV(List of Values) based on that view.
The LOV consists of a cascaded prompt group that is used in certain Crystal Reports as under:
    > Loan Name
    >> Loan Subtype
    >>>  Channel Name
All the three fields are coming from separate tables. Except table pertaining to Loan Subtype, all other tables and their fields have data. I am of the opinion that if I 'Schedule LOV' it should not prevent populating data into whatever fields from respective tables that contain data.
I performed 'Schedule LOV' to get data up to Channel Name, and this did not help in bringing data in Loan Name within the parameter screen of Crystal Reports.
Thereafter I performed 'Schedule LOV' to get data up to Loan Name, and even this did not help in bringing data in Loan Name within the parameter screen of Crystal Reports.
Is it mandatory to have data in all fields used in LOV, for the data to appear in the highest level of parameter in cascaded prompt group. Your views are welcome.
    Regards,
    Neonevin

    Hi,
I have created a new LOV upon the same Business View using the same fields in the format of highest level to lowest level as given below:
    > Loan Name
    >> Loan Subtype
    >>> Channel Name
Then I perform the 'Schedule LOV' again but it does not help as the Report parameters still do not show any values for selection of values in prompt.
I am getting the following error:
Item SI_METADATA_ALL_DESCENDANTS was not found in the collection. (CrystalEnterprise115.FW_Properties.1)
Is this an indication of some inconsistency. What exactly it could be ? How do I derive values in Report prompt through particular LOV ?

  • How to create a New database application in APEX

    Hi everyone..
    Greetings!!!
I am a beginner to Oracle APEX, i want to develop a new database application(upload my own data) and wants to perform validations, LOV's, Regions etc..
Can you guide me to handle this....
    Thanks,
    suresh

    Suresh,
The forum can help ... but maybe "guide" is asking a lot. There are tons of suggestions here (in the forum).
Have you read? https://forums.oracle.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=1324 It's a good place to start.
There are a wealth of APEX books if you have access to Safari, Books 24 or something like those.
There are on-line courses: See http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/tutorials/index.html
Specifically: http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=44785:24:87555121473::NO::P24_CONTENT_ID,P24_PREV_PAGE:6268,1 is "Building an Application using Oracle Application Express: Part 1"
I'm certain you can find many more by Google'ing.
If you're like me, you need to see (and do) many examples before you launch off into something non-trivial.
    Best wishes,

  • Performance issues with LOV bindings in 3-tier BC4J architecture

We are running BC4J and JClient (Jdeveloper 9.0.3.4/9iAS 9.0.2) in a 3-tier architecture, and have problems with the performance.
One of our problems are comboboxes with LOV bindings. The view objects that provides data for the LOV bindings contains simple queries from tables with only 4-10 rows, and there are no view links or entity objects to these views.
To create the LOV binding and to set the model for the combobox takes about 1 second for each combobox.
We have tried most of tips in http://otn.oracle.com/products/jdev/tips/muench/jclientperf/index.html, but they do not seem to help on our problem.
The performance is OK (if not great) when the same code is running as 2-tier.
Does anyone have any good suggestions?

I can recommend that you look at the following two bugs in Metalink: Bug 2640945 and Bug 3621502
They are related to the disabling of the TCP socket-level acknowledgement which slows down remote communications for EJB components using ORMI (the protocol used by Oracle OC4J) to communicate between remote EJB client and server.
A BC4J Application Module deployed as an EJB suffers this same network latency penalty due to the TCP acknowledgement.
A customer sent me information (that you'll see there as a part of Bug# 3621502) like this on a related issue:
We found our application runs very slow in 3-Tier mode (JClient, BC4J deployed
as EJB Session Bean on 9iAS server 9.0.2 enterprise edition). We spent a lot
of time to tune up our codes but that helped very little. Eventually, we found
the problem seemed to happen on TCP level. There is a 200ms delay in TCP
level. After we read some documents about Nagle Algorithm,  we disabled a
registry key (TcpDelAckTicks) in windows2000  on both client and server. This
makes our program a lot faster.
Anyway, we think we should provide our clients a better solution other than
changing windows registry for them, for example, there may be a way to disable
    that Nagle's algorithm through java.net.Socket.setTcpNoDelay(true), in BC4J,
or anywhere in our codes. We have not figured out yet.
Bug 2640945 was fixed in Oracle Application Server 10g (v9.0.4) and it now disables this TCP Acknowledgement on the server side in that release. In the BugDB, I see backport patches available for earlier 9.0.3 and 9.0.2 releases of IAS as well.
Bug 3621502 is requesting that that same disabling also be performed on the client side by the ORMI code. I have received a test patch from development to try out, but haven't had the chance yet.
The customer's workaround in the interim was to disable this TCP Acknowledgement at the OS level by modifying a Windows registry setting as noted above.
    See Also http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=328890
"New registry entry for controlling the TCP Acknowledgment (ACK) behavior in Windows XP and in Windows Server 2003" which documents that the registry entry to change disable this acknowledgement has a different name in Windows XP and Windows 2003.
Hope this info helps. It would be useful to hear back from you on whether this helps your performance issue.

  • LOV performance question

    Hello,
what could be the reason for bad LOV performance ?
In SQL*Plus, the Query on a huge personell table takes almost zero time (index is taken).
But when I build a LOV upon this very same Query, it may take half a minute.
    How come ?
ThanX in advance, and thank You all for the help I already recieved here so far.
    Jan Gelbrich

    Hi
Does the query returns many rows? Remember that the Lov must retrieve all the rows before showing up, while in Sql*Plus the rows start to appear immediatelly as they are retrieved.
Another thing is that, if the underlaying data is static, you may set the "automatic refresh" lov property to no, so the Lov will have to retrieve the rows only the first time it is shown.

  • LOV Performance Forms 4.5

    Hi,
We are working on Oracle applications 11.0.3 (Oracle Forms 4.5). We have a LOV to fetch items form mtl_system_items based on item_type and organization. The LOV is taking a lot of time to fetch data and hangs in between.
Please advise as to how can we increase the performance .
We have tried creating index on item type and organization, but it just slightly increased the performance.
I searched the forum, but most of the solutions apply to Forms 6i

How many data is the LOV retrieving? If it's a very high number of rows, then a LOV can be slow as it has to fetch all data before it can display the LOV (at least in older Forms versions like yours).
It could also be that the query execution path is not the most efficient. Try running the same query from SQL*Plus, while first doing
    sql> set autotrace on
You would have to use a recent version of SQL*Plus to do this, preferable 10.2 or 11.1. With autotrace, SQL*Plus will tell you what execution path was used and how many logical data blocks where fetched. That should give you an insight in how the database is executing the query, which might not be optimal.

  • Performance issue on LOV in JSP

    Hi,
In my JSP application, I used two LOV for look up. One of them will show about 3,000 and so records. When I clicked the LOV button for this LOV, it took me more than 20 seconds to see the result. This is unacceptable. Is there anyone know how I can tune the BC4J framework to improve performance? Your any input will be highly appreciated.
    Rick
    null

On many projects I've worked on, including non-JDev, a general user interface rule was that you don't use an LOV if there's much more than 20-30 items. Think of this from a USER standpoint.
Note also that in Swing/DACF the combobox does NOT allow you to type the letters "starting" and automatically jump to the right place.. ( i.e. Enter WI in a state list doesn't take you to WISCONSIN ). This is a Sun JDK issue. ( Or has it changed in 1.3 in some manner... or is there a property set to allow this? )
As such, you've more a application design issue than a performance issue.
    Good Luck

  • How to perform LOV auto completion

    Hi,
I want to be able to leave the LOV text box empty and press tab to the LOV flashlight and the all the values corresponding to the LOV should appear automatically.
I have set Disable Validation --> False and Selective Search Criteria --> False.
So right now if i type in % in the textbox and press tab I am able to automatically get the list of values. But I want to accomplish this even without typing % in the textbox, i.e. leaving the text box blank.
    Thanks

Even when you tab out of the LOV field from the base page, the LOV Window would pop-up. If you have the code that Ram, mentioned in the processRequest of your LOV Region's Controller, when the LOV Page opens up, the query will get executed and the results will appear....!
    Hope this clarifies.
