Performance Question from Upgraded BW

Hi!
For awhile I have ran my machine with these Specs:
- Blue & While G3-400 / Upgraded to Sonnet G4-500
- Western Digital 80GB 3-Partitioned-(OS 10.3.9, OS 9.2.2, & For Xtra Files)
- Radeon 7000 64MB (Was PC, but flashed for Mac)
- 768MB RAM
Now in my Beige 333Mhz (latest ROM; correct VRM module) -
- I was able to overclock the G4-500.
But in the Blue and White, I can't.
I followed the correct jumper settings for the G4-500. But couldn't bring it up at all.
Plus, I ran the most updates for the ATI card. From the ROM to control panels.
But I just have a feeling, I'm still not quite getting the full extent of what I could be running.
Could anybody give me some insight as to what is REALLY expected from the system I'm running???

Overclocking depends on the exact chips you happen to have on your board. Sometimes you can do it quite a lot, sometimes not at all. The guy next to you using parts that are nominally identical may get wildly different results.
The processors and other parts are all made using the same process. Once the silicon has been processed with all the patterns, doping, glassifying, metalizing, etc, the parts are tested. Some will not run at all and are discarded before they are even sealed into packages. The very fastest ones -- found on the same hunk of silicon as slower ones and dead ones -- are labeled with the fastest speeds. The one you have may have just passed the test, the next one may have exceeded it enormously, and both may be labeled with the same top speed.
In addition, it's not just the processor chip you are stressing. The Bus/memory controller chip (Grackle, MPC106) and the memory may respond differently at a different rate of access.
I am sure you know you have to use two different charts to set the jumpers in the two different computers. The Bus in the Blue & White runs at 100 MHz speeds, and the beige is only 66 MHz -- that may make some difference.

  • Questions about upgrading from Exchange 2010 RTM to Exchange 2010 Service Pack 3

I am preparing to perform an maintenance upgrade on our current Exchange 2010 Server, to Service Pack 3 (and any post-SP3 roll ups), but I have a couple questions about the process.
    Current Exchange Server details:
    Exchange 2010 Standard
Version: 14.0 (Build 639.21) - from Exchange Management Console
Version: 14.0.702.4000 - from Outook client
Active Directory forest and domain levels: Windows 2008 R2 native
    The questions I have are:
    1.  Can I assume that because it's version 10.0.702.4000 I am on Exchange Server 2010 RTM Update Rollup 4?
    2.  Can Exchange 2010 Standard RTM be patched directly to Service Pack 3, or would I need to perform incremental patches (i.e. SP1, SP2, etc.) before going to SP3?
    3.  Do I need to manually perform the AD domain schema prep before applying Service Pack 3, or will the Service Pack 3 update process automatically handle the modifications of the AD schema?

    Hi,
Here are my answers you can refer to:
    1. Firstly, I’d like to explain , we can use connection status to check our Exchange server version from Outlook client:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-in/outlook-help/determine-the-version-of-microsoft-exchange-server-my-account-connects-to-HA010117038.aspx
And I check my version from both EMC and Outlook client. It’s same.
    2. We can directly update RTM version to SP3 , and the update will take an additional 30 minutes or longer per database.
    3. Since Exchange 2010 SP3 makes updates to the Active Directory schema, we need prepare AD domain schema. However, it will automatically prepare AD and the domain when you install the update.
For more information, you can refer to the following article:

  • Performance issue after Upgrade from 4.7 to ECC 6.0 with a select query

    Hi All,
There is a Performance issue after Upgrade from 4.7 to ECC 6.0 with a select query in a report painter.
This query is working fine when executed in 4.7 system where as it is running for more time in ECC6.0.
Select query is on the table COSP.
    SELECT (FIELD_LIST)
INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE I_COSP PACKAGE SIZE 1000
            FROM  COSP CLIENT SPECIFIED
            WHERE GJAHR IN SELR_GJAHR
              AND KSTAR IN SELR_KSTAR
              AND LEDNR EQ '00'
              AND OBJNR IN SELR_OBJNR
              AND PERBL IN SELR_PERBL
              AND VERSN IN SELR_VERSN
              AND WRTTP IN SELR_WRTTP
              AND MANDT IN MANDTTAB
            GROUP BY (GROUP_LIST).
       LOOP AT I_COSP      .
         COSP                           = I_COSP      .
         PERFORM PCOSP       USING I_COSP-_COUNTER.
         CLEAR: $RWTAB, COSP                          .
         CLEAR CCR1S                         .
       ENDLOOP.
    ENDSELECT.
I have checked with the table indexes, they were same as in 4.7 system.
What can be the reson for the difference in execution time. How can this be reduced without adjusting the select query.
Thanks in advance for the responses.
    Regards,
    Dedeepya.

    Hi,
ohhhhh....... lots of problems in select query......this is not the way you should write it.
    Some generic comments:
    1. never use SELECT
                       endselect.
       SELECT
      into table
       for all entries in table
      where.
use perform statment after this selection.
    2. Do not use into corresponding fields. use exact structure type.
    3. use proper sequence of fields in the where condition so that it helps table go according to indexes.
        e.g in your case
              sequence should be
    LEDNR
    OBJNR
    GJAHR
    WRTTP
    VERSN
    KSTAR
    HRKFT
    VRGNG
    VBUND
    PARGB
    BEKNZ
    TWAER
    PERBL
sequence should be same as defined in table.
Always keep select query as simple as possible and perform all other calculations etc. afterwords.
    I hope it helps.

    Pranaya

  • 8 questions from new owner of Satellite Pro L300

    Hello all forum users!
I bought a new Toshiba laptop, the Satellite Pro L300, and have until 14 January to test it - if it looks like it isn't working properly I'll return it to the store where I purchased it.
    Here's a list of questions I have:
    1. Every time I turn on the laptop or it comes out of suspended or hibernation mode, and when I turn it off, the cd/dvd drive makes a loud mechanical clunky noise.
It sounds to me like the carriage that carries the laser and optics is running into a mechanical stop.
    Is this normal?
    2. There is one hot subpixel on the display (blue) and according to the Toshiba info in the box, this is normal and is not cause for return.
Should I be concerned about this?
    3. When I run the memory test at system boot, it states that it will start windows automatically at test termination, and show me the results of the test.
It runs the test, starts Vista, but I don't see any results report.
Where do I find this report?
Is there a known problem with this test?
    4. The Toshiba utility program to perform diagnostics from within Vista does not work. Every time I run the test (PCdiag.exe) I get a Vista error message saying a fault was found in KERNEL32.dll.
Where can I get a fix for this?
I've already installed the updated files on Toshiba's web site for the 'Value Added Pack', which is where this utility is located, but still get the error message.
    5. I would like to access the bios settings at boot, but haven't found the way to do it yet.
F2 gives me a menu for memory test or normal system boot.
Esc doesn't get me into bios setup either.
There is a Toshiba bios utility I can run from Vista, and from what I see any bios firmware upgrades are also to be done through Vista.
Is there a way to access bios at boot?
    6. I would like to run XP on this system and understood that this model (Pro L300 PSLB1E) was XP compatible, and that I should be able to download all drivers from Toshiba to run on XP.
    Has anyone done this?
    7. The laptop installed and configured Vista basic when I did the first power on, but the license sticker on the bottom of the laptop has a product key for 'Vista Business OEMAct'. I was sold this laptop as having Vista Business with the option to downgrade to XP Pro. The box didn't come with any cds or dvds, and no manuals explaining how to install Vista Business.
This is enough reason to return the laptop to the store where I bought it, which is a hassle I would prefer to avoid if I can install Vista Business.
Can anyone help me understand what is happening here?
    8. Is there a way to contact technical support by email?
Thanks in advance to anybody that can answer any of the above questions!

    > 1. Every time I turn on the laptop or it comes out of suspended or hibernation mode, and when I turn it off, the cd/dvd drive makes a loud mechanical clunky noise.
My CD/DVD drives make similar noise too from time to time. Not always but sometimes. I think this appears because the drives laser lens calibrates in the right position.
    > 2. There is one hot subpixel on the display (blue) and according to the Toshiba info in the box, this is normal and is not cause for return.
Well, you need an certain amount of dead pixels to get a screen replacement
    Please check this FAQ:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB5400ZD0002R01.htm
    > 3. When I run the memory test at system boot, it states that it will start windows automatically at test termination, and show me the results of the test.
There is no problem. I believe you mean the memory test while POST (power on self test). If there would be a memory fault then your notebook would not boot up properly.
    > 4. The Toshiba utility program to perform diagnostics from within Vista does not work. Every time I run the test (PCdiag.exe) I get a Vista error message saying a fault was found in KERNEL32.dll.
Hmm the Value Added Package contains the PC diagnostic tool for Vista. I would recommend removing the old VAP and reinstalling the new downloaded from the page.
    > 5. I would like to access the bios settings at boot, but haven't found the way to do it yet. F2 gives me a menu for memory test or normal system boot. Esc doesn't get me into bios setup either. The notebook seems to use the Phoenix BIOS and therefore pressing the F2 button should enable the BIOS. Press the F2 immediately after notebook has been powered up.
    > 6. I would like to run XP on this system and understood that this model (Pro L300 PSLB1E) was XP compatible, and that I should be able to download all drivers from Toshiba to run on XP.
Such XP drivers are placed on the Toshiba European page.

Never hear that this notebook would be delivered with Vista business As far as I know this series has been preinstalled with Vista Home Premium

If you have some problems with your notebook you can contact your ASP in your country.

  • Solaris Installation question (from sun course)

Hello, I am just learning about solaris from the course WS-2001-S10. I hope this kind of question is fit for this forum...otherwise please direct me to where I can ask about it.
There is a review question at the end of the installation module like this:
Which Solaris 10 OS installation methods are available to perform a standard upgrade?
         Solaris suninstall and Custom Jumpstart
[x]Solaris suninstall, Solaris Web Start, and Custom Jumpstart
Solaris Web Start and Custom Jumpstart
    Feedback:
         Correct.
The correct answer is 2 but i don't really get it why. In the course they say nothing about Web Start and from what i have read Web Start is just a Web-Based Jump Start installation.
In the course SUN says that "The methods available for a standard upgrade are Solaris GUI installation, the CLI installation, and the custom JumpStart procedure. "
So "suninstall, Solaris Web Start, and Custom Jumpstart" from the answer equals "Solaris GUI installation, the CLI installation, and the custom JumpStart procedure" from course...
Also from what I understood the jumpstart installation is also CLI ...(totally confused now)
Can someone shed some light on this please?
Edited by: realthor on Feb 1, 2010 2:18 PM

    Installation Guide
    [http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/806-5205]
    suninstall = CLI
Web Start = GUI (or CLI)
    Custom JumpStart = CLI

  • A few questions from a Mac newbie

    1. What kind of maintainence should I be doing on the mac? Do I need to defrag or run system cleaners (like ccleaner for windows)?
    2. Will it eventually get messed up like Windows, or should be running as good as new years from now without reformatting?
    3. Am I correct in assuming Software Update only updates the System and the official mac applications (iChat, iMovie etc.)?
    4. I know viruses aren't as much of a threat, but should I install antivirus just to be on the safe side?
    5. When I install new software, I'm assuming settings are saved somewhere else besides the Applications folder. Do these remove themselves when I delete the software?
    6. If I eventually update to Leopard, will that do a clean install over Tiger, not corrupting anything? On Windows I know that upgrading Windows basically screwed over everything and messed up the registry permanently, and I'm hoping this isn't an issue with Mac OS.
    7. Lastly, I've noticed that the longer the system is running for, the more memory is used (according to iStat at least), regardless of how many programs I'm running. Is this normal behavior, and is it slowing down the system?
Thanks, and I'm loving Mac OS, my only regret is that I didn't switch years ago.
Macbook (2 GHz Core 2 Duo, 1 GB RAM)   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    1. What kind of maintainence should I be doing on the mac? Do I need to defrag or run system cleaners (like ccleaner for windows)?
After any system update or security update, use DiskUtility to repair permissions. Maybe/maybe not necessary in all instances, but a good plan. You may also boot from an installer disk and run DiskUtility to repair the disk, maybe twice a year. You can also run fsck with the same frequency
    http://macs.about.com/od/osx/a/running_fsck.htm
I follow the repair permissions rule, but seldom run fsck unless I notice problems. Opinions may vary.
    2. Will it eventually get messed up like Windows, or should be running as good as new years from now without reformatting?
    I lost my crystal ball
Seriously, disk corruption is a cross platform issue. If you're not the type to install every shareware app you can find, and don't mess around with stuff unnecessarily, or fool around with files you aren't familiar with, you should be OK.
    3. Am I correct in assuming Software Update only updates the System and the official mac applications (iChat, iMovie etc.)?
    Yes.
    4. I know viruses aren't as much of a threat, but should I install antivirus just to be on the safe side?
    Again, with the crystal ball
At this point, it's probably not necessary. However, you may wish to consider some course of action if you swap files with Windows users on a regular basis. Your Mac will be happy to host malware through infected emails, flash drives, web sites, etc...
    Many folks recommend ClamAV
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/24449
There are commercial apps available, but IMHO, they're not the most polished apps, possibly because there's no real demand for a reliable av app for OS X at this point.
    5. When I install new software, I'm assuming settings are saved somewhere else besides the Applications folder. Do these remove themselves when I delete the software?
Yes, no, and sort of. Most of apps are contained in a package. Control-click on an application's icon, and you can view the stuff in the package. Deleting the app's icon form the Application folder will get rid of most of it. There will be preference files, mostly in youruserfolder/Library/Preferences. There may be scattered files elsewhere, but generally, none of them are big files, nor should they hurt performance if they stick around.
    6. If I eventually update to Leopard, will that do a clean install over Tiger, not corrupting anything? On Windows I know that upgrading Windows basically screwed over everything and messed up the registry permanently, and I'm hoping this isn't an issue with Mac OS.
In the past, OS X has allowed you to perform a simple upgrade when going from 10.x to 10.y
I usually perform an archive and install, but that's just me.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
    7. Lastly, I've noticed that the longer the system is running for, the more memory is used (according to iStat at least), regardless of how many programs I'm running. Is this normal behavior, and is it slowing down the system?
Yes, and maybe. OS X likes memory. I recommend 1 GB for 10.4. 10.3 seemed pretty good with 512 MB. Apple Discussions policy says I shouldn't speculate about memory requirements here for Leopard, so I won't, but you can think about the possibilities. More is better. If you fire up activity monitor and notice that you're down to 10 MB of free memory, I'd consider adding more.

I have recently picked up an Apple TV. When I go to the movies tab, there less movies available there than what is available in my i-Tunes library. I have 38 movies showing in my library but only 23 are showing in the Movies tab on the Apple TV. After researching this a little, there are only 23 movies showing under Purchased in the Quicklinks of my i-Tunes account. The majority of my collection are digital copy downloads that came from DVD purchases. Some of the missing movies were added in the past couple of months, the rest are a year-or-so old. I have done some looking around at questions from others, but I have not found an answer that will fix my situation. How do I update my library to get ALL of my movies to reflect that they were "Purchased"(as it says they were in their Properties)?

Its a fact the CC model will work for some, especially newbies and small businesses.
The risks associated with the CC model have been well documented.
For long term users of CS perpetuals its generally a large hike up in cost compared to the upgrade system.
Then there are the....... Adobe can rot it hell...... group who will never subscribe

To those on the CC model, I'd like to offer some practical advice.........do not allow automatic updates.........make regular backups............develop an exit strategy of alternatives for when you can no longer afford the subscription costs............never ever assume that the Adobe update is bug free

Thank you for that post, and the advice. I just happen to be one of those who it does work for. I've been around long enough to know that CC isn't going to work for everyone(the large publishing/radio/web company I work for isn't upgrading to CC because of the costs involved). But it does for me as I potentially venture out into the full-time freelancing world and away from the more structured big office environment. I can't make decisions based on what is best for anyone else, or what will hurt or help Adobe. Just what affects me, and that's all.

Thank for for your suggestions. Unfortunately they are of little help. I am running on Snow Leopard and the PalmDesktop works fine. However, I do not want to quit my PalmTungsten unit as it is my backup for all my important access information. If it cannot run on Mavericks and no other solution is at hand, I simply will not update my OS X, but work on my Snow Leopard as it is.
I do not know how on earth I can migrate the information from my Palm into another system, and then quit the PalmPilot. If you have any intelligent solutions to this I would appreciate an input. A manual copy and paste solution is not acceptable. I may however run it on Windows via Parallel Desktop, but it is a lousy solution, and demonstrates (again) the weakness of Apple's OS and lack of compatibility. I am not impressed by the OS X performance.
    Thank your for your attention.

  • Question about upgrading iTunes multiple computers with shared library

    Greetings,
I have a question about upgrading to the current version of iTunes.
Currently, my household uses 3 Mac computers (2 Powerbook 17in laptops and a Mack Mini). We are all (currently) on system 10.4.11 (with iTunes 9.2.1). Between the 3 computers we have a shared iTunes music and video library on a networked high capacity hard drive.
We recently purchased an iPad. In order to make it easy for updates and to use media from our iTunes shared library I decided that we should upgrade the systems on our home computers to Snow Leopard. I have ensured that all the computers have at lease 2 Gb of RAM and adequate hard drive space.
The only possible problem I see is that one of the Powerbook laptops uses the old Motorola processor. (This is one of the last Powerbooks to use that processor.) I don’t think this computer can be upgraded to Snow Leopard.
My question is, if I upgrade 2 of the computers (and iTunes in the process), will I still be able to access the shared iTunes library using the older computer with the older system and iTunes? Will the upgrade process change the iTunes library in such a way that the one older computer will no longer be able to properly access that library?
Are there any other problems I might encounter having a mixed system/iTunes environment?
    Thank you,
    Tim

Just a thought. Should I somehow open iTunes on MBP2 using MBP1's Library file??
both Macs can access the same library file, however, only one at a time !
to do that, you would ideally have the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) on the external. then, on one Mac after the other, launch iTunes while holding the option key, click on +choose library+ when prompted, and select the iTunes folder on the external.
or, you could have two separate libraries and keep those in sync using third party tools such as Syncopation, TuneRanger or SuperSync.
for purchases from the iTunes store, you could set up _*Home Sharing*_ - it can be configured to automatically transfer new purchases to home shared libraries.
Can I create a script to have MBP1 always save the iTunes Library file on the shared hard drive?
    no need.

  • BPM performance question

    Guys,
I do understand that ccPBM is very resource hungry but what I was wondering is this:
Once you use BPM, does an extra step decreases the performance significantly? Or does it just need slightly more resources?
More specifically we have quite complex mapping in 2 BPM steps. Combining them would make the mapping less clear but would it worth doing so from the performance point of view?
    Your opinion is appreciated.
    Thanks a lot,
    Viktor Varga

    Hi,
In SXMB_ADM you can set the time out higher for the sync processing.
Go to Integration Processing in SXMB_ADM and add parameter SA_COMM CHECK_FOR_ASYNC_RESPONSE_TIMEOUT to 120 (seconds). You can also increase the number of parallel processes if you have more waiting now. SA_COMM CHECK_FOR_MAX_SYNC_CALLS from 20 to XX. All depends on your hardware but this helped me from the standard 60 seconds to go to may be 70 in some cases.
Make sure that your calling system does not have a timeout below that you set in XI otherwise yours will go on and finish and your partner may end up sending it twice
when you go for BPM the whole workflow
has to come into action so for example
when your mapping last < 1 sec without bpm
if you do it in a BPM the transformation step
can last 2 seconds + one second mapping...
    (that's just an example)
so the workflow gives you many design possibilities
(brigde, error handling) but it can
slow down the process and if you have
    thousands of messages the preformance
can be much worse than having the same without BPM

  • Performance issues after upgrading to 11g

    hello,
We are facing a performance issue after upgrading from 10g to 11g.
as you can see, the tables named APPLSYS.FND_ENV_CONTEXT has grown to 15544880 records,
and oracle is using TABLE ACCESS FULL on it:
    DELETE FND_ENV_CONTEXT E
    WHERE NOT EXISTS
    (SELECT 'X'
    FROM FND_CONCURRENT_PROCESSES P
    WHERE P.CONCURRENT_PROCESS_ID = E.CONCURRENT_PROCESS_ID)
    AND ROWNUM < 10000;
    Plan:
    DELETE STATEMENT ALL_ROWSCost: 74,345
         5 DELETE APPLSYS.FND_ENV_CONTEXT
              4 COUNT STOPKEY
3 HASH JOIN RIGHT ANTI Cost: 74,345 Bytes: 3,108,980 Cardinality: 155,449
1 INDEX FULL SCAN INDEX (UNIQUE) APPLSYS.FND_CONCURRENT_PROCESSES_U1 Cost: 166 Bytes: 315,450 Cardinality: 63,090
                        2 TABLE ACCESS FULL TABLE APPLSYS.FND_ENV_CONTEXT Cost: 69,124 Bytes: 233,173,200 Cardinality: 15,544,880
    select num_rows,last_analyzed from dba_tables where table_name='FND_ENV_CONTEXT'

  • Retrieving Performance Metrics from Azure Redis Portal

We are evaluating our application performance on cloud. We are automating the process of running and collecting performance counters from the application (from web roles, sql azure database, redis cache).
We can get the metrics for Redis cache instance on the portal. But we want to retrieve the metrics from portal and use it for comparing the results between different tests run. What is the best way we can
    achieve that?

    Hi Harit,
Here is some background and an answer.
Redis is only available in the new preview Azure portal. The new portal uses a new underlying deployment mechanism called CSM. The libraries you mentioned do not support Redis. There is a new set of libraries (microsoft.azure.insights) that you have
to use. These libraries are in preview.
Please take a look at the SDK here:
    https://www.nuget.org/packages/Microsoft.Azure.Insights/ The documentation is here:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/dn802153.aspx
I have a sample which shows how you can get the data for Redis.
    https://github.com/rustd/RedisSamples/blob/master/CustomMonitoring/Program.cs
Please make sure when you enable diagnostics for your Cache, then you have provided a storage account as well. This is a new feature that we are rolling out where the diagnostic data will be stored in a storage account specified by the user.
    Hopefully this answers your question.
