Performance - Task manager for 1 - 2 minutes at 50%

Hi,
I know that performance is discussed before...
Overall Lightroom is quick, but I have the following problem.
With several functions Lightroom goes to 50% of CPU capacity that stays the same for 1, 2 or more minutes. Looking at the taks manager, no byte is written or read. Absolute no I/O actions, only 50% CPU capacity. I have included the specs of my machine below.
Added: Only from time to time during this period the memory usage increases little.
At this moment it happend when I selected 10 smart collections and deleted them. But it also happens when I open a Smart collection with 10 images or even a normal collection with 3 images. I even had it once when I hit the F2 key to rename my images.
It is always the same behavior. CPU goes to 50%, stays like that for several minutes and then I can go on working and Lightroom is quick.
It always happens shortly after I start LR. Later on it happens from time to time.
On the otherside LR is quick, only from time to time it goes to 50%.

It could be syncing the changes you made to the DB, or adjusting extents (or whatever they are called in SQLite) because it detected there were enough changes to do so, and nothing much is going on. Most of the examples you give make a fair number of changes to the catalogue database.
Do you have an architecture that supports hyperthreading? If so, there is know issue where virtual threads can queue up in a less ideal manner when the stackframes of the physical threads are the same depth.
Then again, if nothing much else is going on, and Lr needs CPU for a lower priority thread, it will be given all the CPU it needs. That is, it is not necessarily a pathological case for an app to be given a fair chunk of CPU for some time frame, as long as it can be pre-empted in a reasonable manner.
Activity monitoring is only part of the story. You would really have to profile the app to know if this was a real problem. Put another way, is this causing resources not to be given to other apps or processes, or interfering with the higher priority threads (e.g., the UI or develop operations) in Lightroom?

• Task Manager for HTC One

What is the best task manager for the HTC one?

I assume you mean you went from a 3G phone to a 4G phone. The G in those phone types has nothing to do with GB, but "generation" of cellular connection. You do not necessarily use 1GB more in data/month when you switch from a 3G phone to a 4G phone.
If there are apps opening up and using data, then you need to change the settings in those apps to only use data when you would like. If there are apps which you don't want/need, then you can just disable them in the app manager of your settings menu or delete them altogether if they are not pre-loaded bloatware.

• Is there a "Task Manager" for HyperV Guests?

I have read articles such as
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc768535(v=bts.10).aspx
that indicate which performance counters to watch in the Guest.
An article is fine but the day-to-day network Admin needs better than that. They need a tool – like Task Manager --that understands it is running in a Guest and presents information from the Guest perspective.
Is there such a tool available either from Microsoft or a third party?
TIA,
edm2

If you are running task manager within the guest, then it's from the guest perspective.
You can monitor your guests from the hosts as long as you know where to look.
However, looking for a complete monitoring solution for such environment, often leads to Operations Manager in System Center with it corresponding management packs.

• Need help to find a Good Task Manager for my Palm LifeDrive

No device
Hello All,
I like many others now have a phone that does everything, and there in lies the problem..
It does scheduling, e-mail, browses the web, plays games, wakes me in the a.m., and yes makes calls.
But LIFE was conflicting with everything tucked into the phone.....
So I went back and dug out my LifeDrive, charged it, installed the Software on my home computer did a few sync's Cleaned, Cleaned, and Cleaned some more.....
Added, added, corrected, added, corrected well you get it.
Now I have a great handheld to manage all of the Personal items Kids events, School, activities, and even one or two for myself
What I need now is a Good Task Manager other than Outlook, I used Franklin in the past and liked it as I need to set a goal and break it up into smaller handlable items all towards completing the main Goal/Task.
I have 2 that I am working on each will be at least a year in length this is why I need smaller tasks to get the larger complete and stay on target.
ANY SUGGESTIONS?
Thanks

i thought about going the same route you did, but when I started looking at the prices of everything, I decided it was a better idea to just get a new stereo that can play and charge my iPhone.
After a lot of comparing, looking and price checking, I decided to go with the Alpine IDA-X100. This is a media player only device (no cd player built in) and it has been great. It has an awesome interface and dial setup that let's you go through your music just as if it were on an iPod. It even has a small color screen that displays the album artwork for you. My car has a factory BOSE system in it and the Alpine head unit even managed to improve the sound quality. Go see you local alpine dealer (or best buy) and check it out. The supplied cable charges the phone and plays music too. Your iPhone will give you an error message when you plug it in, saying that the accessory was not designed for iPhone, but if you just click no it works great.

• Task Manager for Incredible 2

Hello to All,
Quick question I hoped someone could answer. I previosly had the Samsung Fascinate. On that phone, there was a task manager that you could use to see what programs and apps were running in the background so you could turn them off to save battery life. This was nice because you did not have to download something like Advanced Task Killer that used a lot of battery.
Does the Incredible 2 have something like this because I am not seeing it? If not, where can I go on the phone to see what is running so I can turn them off? Or am I stuck downloading an app? If so, any recommendations?
Thank you for your help.

Here is my 2 cents. Android has it's own task management system. How do you know which apps you should kill using and which ones you shouldn't? I can see maybe an app that requires GPS services and drains battery. But the android software knows what's best for the system. Not us dumb humans. Generally if you google this subject you will see that you shouldn't need a task killer app or you shouldn't be killing apps. If it bothers you restart your phone. Let it do it's thing. Here's a quote from online:
When does an application “stop”?
A common misunderstanding about Android multitasking is the difference between a process and an application. In Android these are not tightly coupled entities: applications may seem present to the user without an actual process currently running the app; multiple applications may share processes, or one application may make use of multiple processes depending on its needs; the process(es) of an application may be kept around by Android even when that application is not actively doing something.
The fact that you can see an application’s process “running” does not mean the application is running or doing anything. It may simply be there because Android needed it at some point, and has decided that it would be best to keep it around in case it needs it again. Likewise, you may leave an application for a little bit and return to it from where you left off, and during that time Android may have needed to get rid of the process for other things.
A key to how Android handles applications in this way is that processes don’t shut down cleanly. When the user leaves an application, its process is kept around in the background, allowing it to continue working (for example downloading web pages) if needed, and come immediately to the foreground if the user returns to it. If a device never runs out of memory, then Android will keep all of these processes around, truly leaving all applications “running” all of the time.
f course, there is a limited amount of memory, and to accommodate this Android must decide when to get rid of processes that are not needed. This leads to Android’s process lifecycle, the rules it uses to decide how important each process is and thus the next one that should be dropped. These rules are based on both how important a process is for the user’s current experience, as well as how long it has been since the process was last needed by the user.
Once Android determines that it needs to remove a process, it does this brutally, simply force-killing it. The kernel can then immediately reclaim all resources needed by the process, without relying on that application being well written and responsive to a polite request to exit. Allowing the kernel to immediately reclaim application resources makes it a lot easier to avoid serious out of memory situations.
If a user later returns to an application that’s been killed, Android needs a way to re-launch it in the same state as it was last seen, to preserve the “all applications are running all of the time” experience. This is done by keeping track of the parts of the application the user is aware of (the Activities), and re-starting them with information about the last state they were seen in. This last state is generated each time the user leaves that part of the application, not when it is killed, so that the kernel can later freely kill it without depending on the application to respond correctly at that point.
In some ways, Android’s process management can be seen as a form of swap space: application processes represent a certain amount of in-use memory; when memory is low, some processes can be killed (swapped out); when those processes are needed again, they can be re-started from their last saved state (swapped in).

• Using Task Manager for custom approvals

If some one knows a better way to do customer approvals using a web service please let me know.
Issue: I am trying to use the Task Manager provided in the BPEL Control. I am trying to invoke the web service and I am getting the error. I am not sure if I am using it right or what might be happening. Please let me know how I should be using this service or if there is an easier way.

It looks like to me that in your invoke activity instead of invoking "initiate" operation you are trying to invoke "onResult" operation. Go to you partner link and check what did you set as partner role in "Partner role" drop down list. Partner role should be set as provider and not as requester.

• Application stays in process list of task manager for about 20 seconds after application is closed

I have an application that uses Winsock for TCP/IP connections to the server. After connecting the Winsock communications and then closing the application , the application.exe stays in the process list for about 20 seconds before going away.
If I start the application and do not connect then when I close the application it clears from the process list immediately.
Any way to track down what is preventing the process from going away when the application closes down?

I installed and ran the process monitor program and it shows where the delay is but I'm not sure what it is. Below are a few entries copied from the performance monitor log that indicates the delay between 10:10:52 and 10:11:15.

• Why is firefox in background prosseses for 3 minutes befor it opens

Firefox takes 3.5 minutes to open at start up. it is in the background processes in task manager for 3.5 minutes before it opens.

Hello there,
This may be caused by the large amount of visited sites and as a result this can slow down Firefox on launch/start.
Can you please try to clean your browsing history and cookies by doing the following:
1. Click the menu button, choose "History", and then "Clear Recent History
2. Select how much history you want to clear ( Everything is recommended)
3. Finally, click the "Clear Now" button.
If none of the above work then I would suggest to reinstall Firefox and see if that solves the issue.
Keep us posted!

• Firefox will not open. Hangs at "connecting" stage. Non-responsive even to process shut-down via task manager.

Starting yesterday, Firefox will not open at all. It hangs at the "connecting stage." For hours. It will not shut down even using the task manager for applications or processes, and it locks up virtually every other application. I thought I managed to save an open Word document yesterday - it looked like a slow, but normal save during the Firefox hang, but the document was empty when I restarted my computer.
Even though my machine is not pentium 4 based, I tried starting using the Windows XP/M configuration, I downloaded and re-installed (over the top of) the existing version, I verified that no Mozilla processes were running before trying to start Mozilla, and tried creating a new profile. Absolutely no success. Every time (of the dozens) I have tried to start Firefox I have had to force a hard shut-down to get out of the application. I have now unpinned Firefox from my task bar because I keep forgetting and hitting it by reflex.
I am running version 11.0 (at least that is what I just downloaded - I am not positive what I was running yesterday). My system is Windows 7 Home Premium, Intel Core i3, 2.4 gHz, 4 GB RAM, 64 bit OS.
Next option is to restore to a previous version. If that doesn't work, I will uninstall and start over from scratch.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Am trying to download application task manager but once I go to application world am being told that there is no app task manager for my phone.Am using 8520

Hello,
Quite simply, if I search AppWorld for "application task manager", there are just too many results to try and help you. Please specific the exact app you are attempting to obtain. Typically, the on-device AppWorld only presents you with things that are compatible with your specific device...so, the result may well be valid.

• Having more than four tabs open causes Firefox to become non-responsive, lagging for sometimes up to 5 minutes and can't close it without task manager.

If I try to open a fifth tab, or try to pin a tab Firefox mutes, or whites out and the mouse freezes. When this happens the title bar states that it is, "unresponsive." I either have to wait until it starts moving again to restart it because I have no close button, and this takes up to 5 minutes and sometimes even more, or I have to crash it using the task manager (ctrl + alt + del) when it takes longer. Also, any time I try to pin a tab it does the same thing with a single pinned tab. If I try to open firefox after a crash, it immediately becomes unresponsive for an even longer time.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

• BUG! In Task-Manager/Performance/Up-Time displayed value - this may lead to serious consequences.

I noticed, for the second time, the value displayed in Task-Manager/Performance/Up-Time is, in my system, 3 times bigger than the real value.
Interestingly, I cannot detect it at the minute level, so, if you want to check it, you'd better do this:
1- switch off and then on, your system.
2- log in and check immediately, the Task-Manager/Performance/Up-Time value - it must be near zero (some time will have already passed).
3- wait 3 full hours (use your wrist watch) and compare the values - you'll see a clear discrepancy.
Of course, you cannot switch off your system while waiting, but you can use it normally, inclusive switching users.
As this is related to timer interrupts, this may lead to serious problems, depending the real cause of the problem.
My system is pt-BR, but I don't see how this problem is not generic (any localization).

Hi BR AJCrau,
If you have the Fast Startup option enabled, the Uptime Clock in
Task Manager will not be reset if you Shut Down and restart or
Sleep and restart.
However, it will be reset if you Restart the computer from the
power options.
Refer to these steps to disable
Turn off fast startup
Press
Windows + W keys to see the search charm, type Power Options and press enter key to open
Power Options window.
In the left pane of
Power Options window, click Choose what the power buttons do.
Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable.
Next, under Shutdown settings, remove the check mark to
Turn off fast startup (recommended).
Uncheck box to Disable the feature.
Click Save changes button to save the changes.

• Link to performance tab in task manager

Hello,
Is there a way to immediately link to the performance tab in task manager? Using taskmgr.exe always starts in processes tab.... I would love to be able to create a shortcut that links to the perfomance tab for quick access.
Thanks.
Willem

Hi willwmdhae,
What is the main purpose of this operation ?
I have no idea of changing the default process tab to performance tab of task manager. But we can create a shortcut to open the task manager directly. The taskmgr.exe is located in
C:\Windows\System32 folder. We can create a shortcut to open the task manager directly.
Apart from this ,there are several ways to open the task manager in Windows 8.1.
1. CTRL + ALT + DEL key (The usual way)
2.CTRL + SHIFT + ESC( Windows vista and higher version)
3.Right click the taskbar and choose “Task manager”
4.Right click the Win tab (Win+X) and choose “Task manager”
Best regards
