    Regards,

    Dear user,
    Simple is always better,
So the first query is the *"right one" , because it is simple (you only query once the table)
But sometimes Oracle choose the bad execution plan,
So if the second query is running faster , that´s why Oracle is missing something and you should know what is it(maybe histograms missing ) and make the first and small query run faster as the second one.

  • Performance Tuning Certification for Application Developer

    Hi,
Can you please advise if there is any Oracle Performance Tuning certification for an Application Developer and Oracle 9i to 10G migration certification? If yes, can you please let me know its Oracle examination number?
I have already passed 1Z0-007 and 1Z0-147 in Oct 2008.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sandeep Kumar

... if there is any Oracle Performance Tuning certification for an Application Developer ...There is no performance tuning related certification for application developers. There is one for the DBA track.
Also -- to answer your question in the other thread:
So to clear this certification do I need to re-appear all the 3 exams as they were given in 2008 or just 1Z0-146 is enough.Having passed 1Z0-007 and 1Z0-147, if you pass 1Z0-046, you will gain the certification: Oracle Advanced PL/SQL Developer Certified Professional

  • Oracle Memory Issue/ performance tuning

I have Oracle 9i running on Window 2003 server. 2 GB memory is allocated to Oralce DB( even though server has 14GB memory)
Recently, the oracle process has been slow.. running query
I ran the window task manager. Here is the numbers that I see
    Mem usage: 556660k
    page Faults: 1075029451
    VM size: 1174544 K
I am not sure how to analyze this data. why the page fault is so huge. and Mem usage is half of VM size?
How can I do the performance tuning on this box?

I'm having a similar issue with Oracle 10g R2 64-bit on Windows 2003 x64. Performance on complicated queries is abysmal because [I think] most of the SGA is sitting in a page file, even though there is plenty of physical RAM to be had. Performance on simple queries is probably bad also, but it's not really noticable. Anyway, page faults skyrocket when I hit the "go" button on big queries. Our legacy system runs our test queries in about 5 minutes, but the new system takes at least 30 if not 60. The new system has 24 gigs of RAM, but at this point, I'm only allocating 1 gig to the SGA and 1/2 gig to the PGA. Windows reports oracle.exe has 418,000K in RAM and 1,282,000K in the page file (I rounded a bit). When I had the PGA set to 10 gigs, the page usage jumped to over 8 gigs.
I tried adding ORA_LPENABLE=1 to the registry, but this issue seems to be independent. Interestingly, the amount of RAM taken by oracle.exe goes down a bit (to around 150,000K) when I do this. I also added "everyone" to the security area "lock pages in memory", but again, this is probably unrelated.
I did an OS datafile copy and cloned the database to a 32-bit windows machine (I had to invalidate and recompile all objects to get this to work), and this 32-bit test machine now has the same problem.
    Any ideas?

  • How to take care of Performance related issue in DRM?

How we can optimize or take care of performance related issues when we have huge data in DRM application? especially when comes to Imports and Exports.
    Thanks
    -Ramesh

    Hi Ramesh,
Below some suggestion from my side.
1-Try to keep Current version open at the time of export and automator run.
2-At extreme use derived property , else manage with somehow if you can
3-If you are creating any derived property make sure you are restricting to related hier
4-In case you are creating derived property check performance to take big hier with derived property node name and description ,if performance not seems to you satisfactory go with some other logic.
5-Don’t use much looking property like Nodeinhier, hiernodepropvalue etc , if need then only use these
6-Tack care of validation if you can do better with verification then don’t put validation in that case
7-I do see some problem while loading data from DRM to DB try to avoid and use some workaround if possible ( like Sql loader)
Not sure how much useful will be for you these points above.
    Thanks!
    Sandeep

  • Performance tuning Issue

    Hi folks,
I having a problem with performance tuning ... Below is a sample query
    SELECT /*+ PARALLEL (K 4) */ DISTINCT ltrim(rtrim(ibc_item)), substr(IBC_BUSINESS_CLASS, 1,1)
    FROM AAA K
    WHERE ltrim(rtrim(ibc_item)) NOT IN
select /*+ PARALLEL (II 4) */ DISTINCT ltrim(rtrim(THIRD_MAINKEY)) FROM BBB II
    WHERE SECOND_MAINKEY = 3
    UNION
SELECT /*+ PARALLEL (III 4) */ DISTINCT ltrim(rtrim(BLN_BUSINESS_LINE_NAME)) FROM CCC III
    WHERE BLN_BUSINESS_LINE = 3
The above query is having a cost of 460 Million. I tried creating index but oracle is not using index as a FT scan looks better. (I too feel FT scan is the best as 90% of the rows are used in the table)
After using the parallel hint the cost goes to 100 Million ....
Is there any way to decrease the cost ...
Thanks in advance for ur help !

Be aware too Nalla, that the PARALLEL hint will rule out the use of an index if Oracle adheres to it.
This is what I would try:
    SELECT /*+ PARALLEL (K 4) */ DISTINCT TRIM(ibc_item), substr(IBC_BUSINESS_CLASS, 1,1)
    FROM AAA K
    WHERE NOT EXISTS (
      SELECT 1
        FROM BBB II
      WHERE SECOND_MAINKEY = 3
          AND TRIM(THIRD_MAINKEY) = TRIM(K.ibc_item))
      AND NOT EXISTS (
      SELECT 1
        FROM CCC III
      WHERE BLN_BUSINESS_LINE = 3
AND TRIM(BLN_BUSINESS_LINE_NAME) = TRIM(K.ibc_item))But I don't like this at all: TRIM(K.ibc_item), and you never need to use DISTINCT with NOT IN or NOT EXISTS.
    Try this:
    SELECT DISTINCT TRIM(ibc_item), substr(IBC_BUSINESS_CLASS, 1,1)
    FROM AAA K
    WHERE NOT EXISTS (
      SELECT 1
        FROM BBB II
      WHERE SECOND_MAINKEY = 3
          AND TRIM(THIRD_MAINKEY) = K.ibc_item
      AND NOT EXISTS (
      SELECT 1
        FROM CCC III
      WHERE BLN_BUSINESS_LINE = 3
AND TRIM(BLN_BUSINESS_LINE_NAME) = K.ibc_itemThis may not work though, since you may have whitespaces in K.ibc_item.

  • Performance Tuning in IR

    Hello All,
We have created some reports using Interactive Reporting Studio. The volume of data in that Oracle database are huge and in some tables of the relational database are having above 3-4 crores rows individually. We have created the .oce connection file using the 'Oracle Net' option. Oracle client ver is 10g. We earlier created pivot, chart and report in those .bqy files but had to delete those where-ever possible to decrease the processing time for getting those report generated.
But deleting those from the file and retaining just the result section (the bare minimum part of the file) even not yet helped us out solving the performance issue fully. Still now, in some reports, system gives error message 'Out of Memory' at the time of processing those reports. The memory of the client PCs,wherefrom the reports are being generated are 1 - 1.5 GB. For some reports, even it takes 1-2 hours for saving the results after process. In some cases, the PCs gets hanged at the time of processing. When we extract the query of those reports in sql and run them in TOAD/SQL PLUS, they take not so much time like IR.
Would you please help us out in the aforesaid issue ASAP? Please share your views/tips/suggestions etc in respect of performance tuning for IR. All reply would be highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Raj

SQL + & Toad are tools that send SQL and spool results; IR is a tool that sends a request to the database to run SQL and then fiddles with the results before the user is even told data has been received. You need to minimize the time spent by IR manipulating results into objects the user isn't even asking for.
When a request is made to the database, Hyperion will wait until all of the results have been received. Once ALL of the results have been received, then IR will make multiple passes to apply sorts, filters and computed items existing in the results section. For some unknown reason, those three steps are performed more inefficiently then they would be performed in a table section. Only after all of the computed items have been calculated, all filters applied and all sorts sorted, then IR will start to calculate any reports, charts and pivots. After all that is done, the report stops processing and the data has been "returned"
To increase performance, you need to fine tune your IR Services and your BQY docs. Replicate your DAS on your server - it can only transfer 2g before it dies, restarts and your requested document hangs. You can replicated the DAS multiple times and should do so to make sure there are enough resources available for any concurrent users to make necessary requests and have data delivered to them.
    To tune your bqy documents...
    1) Your Results section MUST be free of any sorts, filters, or computed items. Create a staging table and put any sorts or local filters there. Move as many of your computed items to your database request line and ask the database to make the calculation (either directly or through stored procedures) so you are not at the mercy of the client machine. Any computed items that cannot be moved to the request line, need to be put on your new staging table.
    2) Ask the users to choose filters. Programmatically build dynamic filters based on what the user is looking for. The goal is to cast a net only as big as the user needs so you are not bringing back unnecessary data. Otherwise, you will bring your server and client machines to a grinding halt.
    3) Halt any report pagination. Built your reports from their own tables and put a dummy filter on the table that forces 0 rows in the table until the report is invoked. Hyperion will paginate every report BEFORE it even tells the user it has results so this will prevent the user from waiting an hour while 1000s of pages are paginated across multiple reports
    4) Halt any object rendering until request. Same as above - create a system programmically for the user to tell the bqy what they want so they are not waiting forever for a pivot and 2 reports to compile and paginate when they want just a chart.
    5) Saved compressed documents
    6) Unless this document can be run as a job, there should be NO results stored with the document but if you do save results with the document, store the calculations too so you at least don't have to wait for them to pass again.
    7) Remove all duplicate images and keep the image file size small.
    Hope this helps!
PS: I forgot to mention - aside from results sections, in documents where the results are NOT saved, additional table sections take up very, very, very small bits of file size and, as long as there are not excessively larger images the same is true for Reports, Pivots and Charts. Additionally, the impact of file size only matters when the user is requesting the document. The file size is never an issue when the user is processing the report because it has already been delivered to them and cached (in workspace and in the web client)

  • Oracle Performance Tuning

    Hi,
Our organization recently also encounter Oracle DB performance issue, whereby I am searching for information for us to going into diagnostic the problem and finding the root cause of this performance problem.
I had read through this old article where I found a number of points being highlighted was a good start for us, and just about this port, we would like to understand what in details of AIX 5.3 and asynch I/O turned-on had to do with Oracle DB performance, unfortunately the URL given in the article (possible due to the twas back in 2006), is no longer valid (http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/lewis_cbo.html), I tried that but the pages being redirected to (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/index.html).
May I know, would you able to provide me the new URL path for the mentiened AIX 5.3 asynch I/O turned-on related information?
    Our environment:
    1) OS AIX 5.3
    2) Oracle DB 10g
(If I have the AWR Report, would it be better possition for you to help us?)
    Thank you in advanced.

    Hi,
performance tuning is a very large argument and the causes of degradation may be many.
There are several consideration that You have to do like:
    - which kind of application is running on the DB
    - which kind of optimizer is used
    - the striping of the data files across the disks
    - the dimension of the DB block
    - the waits that DB encounters
    - many other things like SORT_AREA_SIZE, HASH_AREA_SIZE, etc.
To begin Yr analysis use the utlbstat.sql and utlestat.sql scripts provided in the $ORACLE_HOM/rdbms/admin directory and check the conditions of the DB.
Increasing the SGA, like You've done, may not be the solution, somtimes it may instead decrease the overall performances.
Also check in wich case the DB is slow, ex. executing some particular procedure, excuting a particular query, ....
Try to identify the better the DB and then try to resubmit Yr problem.
    Bye Max

Will provide some point which will increase the performance of the program:
    1.     VBAK  & VBAP are header & item table. And so the relation will be 1 to many. In this case, you can use inner join instead multiple select statement.
    2.     If you are very much confident in handling the inner join, then you can do a single statement to get the data from VBAK, VBAP & VBKD using the inner join.
    3.     Before using for all entries, check whether the internal table is not initial.
And sort the internal table and delete adjacent duplicates.
    4.     Sort all the resultant internal table based on the required key fields and read always using the binary search.
You will get a number of documents where you can get a fair idea of what should be done and what should not be while doing a program related to performance issue.
Also you can have number of function module and BAPI where you can get the sales order details. You can try with u2018BAPISDORDER_GETDETAILEDLISTu2019.

  • Performance Tuning for BAM 11G

    Hi All
Can anyone guide me for any documents or any tips realted to performance tuning for BAM 11G on on Linux

It would help to know if you have any specific issue. There are number of tweaks all they way from DB to Browser.
    Few key things to follow:
    1. Make sure you create index on DO. If there are too much old data in the DO and not useful then periodically delete it. Similar to relational database indexes, defining indexes in Oracle BAM creates and maintains an ordered list of data object elements for fast retrieval.
    2. Ensure that IE setup to do automatic caching. This will help with reducing server round trips.
    3. Tune DB performance. This would typically require DBA. Identify the SQL statements most likely to be causing the waits by looking at
the drilldown Top SQL Statements Ordered by Wait Time. Use SQL Analyze, EXPLAIN PLAN, or the tkprof utility to tune the queries that were identified.
Check the Dataobject tables involved in the query for missing indexes.
    4. Use batching (this is on by default for most cases)
    5. Fast network
    6. Use profilers to look at machine load/cpu usage and distribute components on different boxes if needed.
    7. Use better server AND client hardware. BAM dashboard are heavy users of ajax/javascript logic on the client

  • Privilleges for performance tuning

can we assign any specific privilleges to DBA for the performance tuning.
i dont want to give sysdba and sysopr privilleges to DBA.

The question should be why there is need to tune anything in Oracle database. What is the problem, have you defined the problem in a very clear manner ?  Is there anything which is called problem or it is something other one ?  What performance tuning tool you are going to use and why ?
Performance tuning is only two words, but it is very big topic; a topic on which 100 books / blogs have been written and still writing going on.
What and why are you trying to tune and what ORA you got ? As such there is no ready made role in oracle which says something like "PT_ROLE".  We just issue the sql to the dictionary objects and as and when we gets privileges related error, we provides select on those sys objects to user; if he really needs though.

  • Performance Tuning of webi report BO4.0

    Hi ,
I have report which has two data providers in 1st Data Provider i have 10 objects and in 2nd Data provider i have 3 objects the issue is performance report is taking 6 minutes to run.
Please help me out how we can increase the performance at Query Level.
    Thanks
    Siva

    Hi
There are various levels to which you have to check to improve the performance of reports could be at connection levels, query, database etc.
some of them you can try
    1. check array fetch size in relational connection parameters, deactivating array fetch size can increase the efficiency of retrieving your data, but slows server performance.
    2. Setting options for the default list of values in business layer and data foundation layer
Automatic refresh - If this is selected, the list of values is automatically refreshed each time the
list is called. This can have an effect on performance each time the list of values is refreshed. You should disable this option if the list of values returns a large number of values.
    3. set query stripping (Optimize query with Query Stripping in Web Intelligence - Business Intelligence (BusinessObjects) - SCN Wiki)
    4. also check Performance Tuning Methods in BO

  • Details on performance tuning..

    hi all,
<b>please provide me the performance tuning scenarios and parameters of an R/3 system with Oracle..</b>
i heartly welcome all docs and pdf links or notes related to this issue..
please provide ur suggestions at the earliest...
    expecting ur response..
    <i>Vineeth</i>

    Vineeth,
A great attempt to hear from you!
Tuning depends on lt of things your platform work load and environment Etc.
As you requested docs pdfs.no you cant get specific doc for specific scenarios. Its all depends on situation.
I suggest you go through Oracle Docs in metalink. And for SAP in service market place. You will get recmd docs and best practices.I guess this will help you to start with tuning.
To tune u shd be expert in Arch and OS Admin. There are lot of things like memory , OS and SQL Tuning Etc.U need to have more exp in perticular field.
You will get some good docs and scenario in google also.
Let me know if need more help..
