Performnace problem in migrating form SOlaris2.5.1 to Solaris8
have a working system in production for the last six years. It was done on Solaris 2.5.1 using C++ version 4.2. Now i am migrating it to Solaris 8 using C++ 5.4. I use class library from Recursionsw called ObjectSPace.
My code requires lots of message passing (objects) between processes. This is done by binray streams over sockets. All my code is multi threaded (POSIX) and uses semaphores.
The time taken to pass approx. 150 messages in the earlier version was 2 seconds (say) on an Ultra 2 but now the same piece of code (without any logical changes) takes over 30 seconds on an E10k.
With prstat i notice that the sys time value is high and SCL is high. The thtread which is reading messages is taking lot of cpu time. The LCK value is very low.
Has anyone got any idea or faced similar problem in migrating.

We are using a class library called Objectspace from Recursionsw. We did a small test program. This program has an object with about 20 fields (total of around 200 bytes). All we do is write this object (binary stream over socket) from one process and read it from the other process. For banchmarking we write and read this object 200 times.
The results are as follows:
Solaris 2.5.1 - Around 13 seconds
Solaris 7 - Around 60 seconds
Solaris 8 - Around 120 secinds
Solaris 9 - 1-2 seconds
On Soalris 8 i have tried with both std iostream and classic iostream. There is no difference.
This is without any change in the source code. Can anyone give any clues as to what is going wrong.

This document is geared towards upgrading to Forms 11g, but in order to upgrade to Forms 11g you must first upgrade to Forms 10g. This document describes that process.

Problem with Migration Forms to Apex ...
Hello !!
I discovered Apex a few days ago, so I began with the Oracle tutorials, where I found the conversion from Forms to Apex : "Converting Your Oracle Forms Applications to Application Express 3.2".
I tried to do the same, with a Unix server and my laptop with Windows.
I downloaded the Forms which where on my Unix server on my laptop, and then converted them with frmf2xml.bat.
Then I created a project and uploaded only one Forms Module (_fmb.XML). After upload, the Percent Complete column is lower than 100%.
My problem is at the following step : "Generating Your Application Express Application".
When I click on "Create Application", select "Based on Migration Project" and then on "Next", I have one of the following errors :
- 1 error has occurred * The project, "Test Gestuser" does not contain any Blocks associated with database objects.
- 1 error has occurred * Database schema PROCIE does not contain the associated database objects for the project, login. Ensure the database schema associated with the project contains the database objects associated with the uploaded Forms Module .XML file(s)
I really don't understand these two errors, having yet checked all the possible error sources, user, schema, ... ?:|
I have probably forgotten to give some informations, so ask them ;)

The problems are with the Forms : I opened them with Forms Builder and created a new Block with the assistant. Then I compared this block with another "normal" block : they haven't the same properties.
My block has an associated canvas and database source, whereas the other "normal" blocks haven't.
Where does the error come from ??
Is there something to do with Forms Builder ?
On my Unix server before downloading the forms ?
Another thing to do ??

Problems in migrating Forms 5.0 to Forms 6.0

We at first we developed our forms in
Forms5.0 with 8.0.4 as back end. But we came to know that we have to use
Forms 6.0 so we migrated ourselves to Forms 6.0 with 8i as back end. We are
facing the following problem -
The "Hint displayed automatically" property in Forms 5.0 has a default value as "Yes". Now in Forms 6.0, the default value of the same property is "No"
As a result all hints have stopped being displayed.

Strange Problem in Oracle Forms.
Hello,
I have a strange problem of a form not opening in the migrated App Server but is working fine in the existing server.
The problem is that we have now migrated to App Server 10.1.2.3.0 (patch applied to 10gR2 App Server installation) from 9.2.0.4.
The issue is that the same form works perfectly fine in 9.2.0.4 but doesnt open up in the 10.1.2.3.0 server itself !
The form is called using "new_form" procedure.
I even cross checked by giving other form names; they work fine. But this set of forms (for which problem occurs) only doesnt open up.
All the forms are compiled against 10.1.2.3 Compiler; All point to the same OLB and all of them have a common menu bar.
Peculiar thing is WEBUTIL is working for all forms. Version is 1.0.6. No problems in WebUtil.
Please help me making this sole out as we need to migrate this ASAP.

Migrating forms 2000 to forms 6i
Hi,
does anyone of you tried to migrate forms 2000 to 6i. everytime I try that, I am getting an error - "ifbld60.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.
You will need to restart the program." (rigt after I open the file and connect to the database). I cannot proceed.

sanThere was a bug raised on this 3490850 where somone had the same symptoms but it was closed without action because the database version was not supported with that version of Forms. Now I am not sure if this is the same problem (i'm not sure if should be - so long as you are using the latest patch to 6i Forms which was supported against up to the 10g database) but its an issue of using an unsupported version of Oracle Forms.

Where can i find the Technical Document (Exact Procedures) To Migrate Forms/Reports 9i to 10g?This seems to be a common point of confusion. The "FMw Upgrade Assistant" is a utility which helps you to upgrade the entire Application Server installation to a newer version (e.g. 11.1.x). This has nothing to do with your Forms (fmb, mmb, pll, etc) or Reports (rep, rdf, etc) applications. Generally speaking, I would say that using the UA is not necessary and likely should not be used in most cases. Cases where it should be used might include a situation where your previous version has been significantly customized and you don't know how or don't want to make the same customization in the new environment manually. Whether you are talking about a new product (Oracle or not) or even a new OS, generally your best bet is to start with a clean, new installation. Attempting to upgrade an existing version always comes with problems. Just one man's opinion ;-)
As for your Forms application(s), there is a Forms Migration Assistant (FMA), explained in the Forms Upgrade Guide:

That said, just like using UA, it is always better to take the extra time and not rely on such tools if they can be avoided. In most cases, the FMA will not be needed. This is especially true if your application is coming from version 10. For older versions, using FMA might be beneficial.
So, to the point, in order to move a Forms application (fmb, mmb, pll) from version 10 to 11 is as simply as recompiling your modules using the v11 compiler. That's it ;-) -
Problems when migrate 6i to 10G
I try to migrate forms 6i to 10g and found two problems.
First:
In code --> message('something'); This didn´t appear in status bar of my browser. Someone know about it?
I didn´t found nothing here about this.
Second:
How can i align my text in buttons vertically? Because i do this when select button (Arrange-->Align Objects-->
Vertically-->Align Center) and in layout editor appears correct , but when i run this forms, the
text in this button locate on bottom and not in center.

It is my understanding the the Arrange-->Align Objects...
is for aligning objects with other objects, not for text inside the object.
For buttons, I would think that the default for text inside a button would be vertical and center align. That's the way it looks for me.
You will get some differences in appearance between the layout editor and what is displayed in your browser because of the differences in envionments. For example, fonts can get mapped differently. You may try changing the font and see if that helps. -

Frank has pointed you to a great source of information. What is it you don't understand.
Generally speaking you just need to recompile the FMB file to regeneate the FMX - but if you are moving from client/server to web you may need to do some more changes (see the website).

Check subclass and library dependenciesWith "the browser opening a white page" do you mean that the Forms Java applet won't start at all or is it starting with a Forms with a white canvas without any items on it?
If it is the first (Java not starting) there must be something wrong with your Forms setup. First try to run with the default setup without specifying a form. It should display test.fmx that it is included with the Forms setup. This Forms just tells you the setup succeeded and displays a single OK button -
Problem in tabular form based on dynamic view and pagination

I have a manual tabular form based on a dynamic view. The view fetches the records based on search criteria given by the user in all cases. But this view fetches ALL records when user clicks on pagination, without considering the search criteria. This is the problem I am facing.
I am doing the following:
Since tabular form does not support pl/sql function returning query, I cannot use a table directly. I need my results based on search criteria selected by user. Hence I created a dynamic view and used a "INSTEAD OF UPDATE" trigger to update the table.
I use a set bind variables procedure, on load before header for setting the variables.
This view fetches the correct data based on user search always. It creates a problem only in one situation, when using pagination in the report.

Is this because, the inbuilt "html_PPR_Report_Page" executes the region query once again by considering all search variables as NULL?

The view and the package for setting bind variables work properly in my entire application other than the pagination. A pity that I came across this only now :(
I have used this same method for holding variables in another application before, where I needed to print to PDF. I used this approach in the other application because my queries were not within the APEX character limit specified for the "SQL Query of Report Query shared component".
In this application, I initially had to fetch values from 2 tables and update the 2 tables. Updateable form works only with one table right? Hence I had created a view. Later the design got changed to include search and instead of changing the application design I just changed the view then. Still later, my clients merged the 2 tables. Once again I had just changed my view.
Now, I wanted to know if any method was available for the pagination issue (using the view itself). Hence I posted this.
But as you suggested, I think it is better to change the page design quickly (as it would be much easier).
If I change the region query to use the table and the APEX bind parameters in the where clause as:

Even if I make the columns as readonly text field, I am not sure how I can ensure that SYSDATE and v('APP_uSER') can be passed to the columns. Any way I can ensure this? PDF Attachment problem in Adobe form and send mail is not working

Recently i'm facing a problem regarding Adobe form PDF attachment and sending an e-mail along with the PDF attachment to customer mail id.But when i execute the RFC Function module, in customer side no mail is comming. My JMS experience on WLS 8.1 ain't great, purley from these error messages it looks like the destination of these messages is the problem. Can you double check the destination exists and is configured correctly.
