PermGen errors on Storage Nodes

The error in itself is....
OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space
This occurs simultaneously on all storage nodes after the cluster has been up a number of hours. Cluster is configured as partitioned and actual data size is only being reported as about 12Mb through RTView.
We're running 3 storage nodes at 4096mb each and 3 proxies of 2048m. We are NOT specifically setting the PermSize (i.e. not setting -XX:PermSize=).
Coherence Version = 3.5.3
JVM is Hotspot 64bit on windows server 2008........
java version "1.6.0_21"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_21-b07)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 17.0-b17, mixed mode)
Machine is an HP blade (8 core [16 core with Hyperthreads] and 24Gb memoy) so we are way off the limits in terms of object data storage.
Possible fixes - we are going to set =XX:PermSize=512m and probably move to JRockit however I'd like to know if anyone has experienced this and how they fixed it.

Edited by: Kunal on Jan 23, 2012 8:55 PMThis can be caused by a few things, but JVM implementation most likely will not make a difference (except JRockit may give you something to diagnose this with), although someone mentioned a bug which was JVM implementation specific and was causing PermGen OOM.
You should get some memory snapshots at the time of OutOfMemory (look up the documentation for the exact JVM option).
Afterwards look at how many instances what classes sit in the Perm generation (I believe, Visual VM should be able to help you with this), that may give you more information on what is polluting the perm gen.
It may simply be too many classes loaded (increase this to a sane value, I saw JVMs used in production which needed around 80-100Mb PermGen). Half a gig seems to be too much.
Other things which use PermGen is intern()-ed Strings. There are a few libraries which used a horrible and what is worse, unbounded amount of intern()-ed strings, there was at least one XML processing library suffering from this.

Robert

  • Qmaster error: shared storage client timed out while subscribing to...

    Here's my Qmaster setup:
    computer 1: CONTROLLER, no nodes
    - 8TB RAID hooked up via Fiber
    - connected to the GigE network switch via a 6-port bond
    - cluster storage set to a path on the RAID
    computers 2, 3, 4, 5: RENDER NODES
    - each computer has a 2-port bonded connection with the GigE switch
    computer 6: Client, with FCS2 installed.
    - connected with a single GigE link
    I have set up this cluster primarily for command-line renders, and it works great. I submit command-line renders from the client computer, which get distributed and executed on each node. The command line renders specify a source file on the RAID, and a destination path on the RAID. Everything works great.
    I run into trouble when trying to use Compressor with this same setup. The files are on the RAID, and all my computers have an NFS automount that puts it in the /Volumes folder on each computer.
    I set up my Compressor job and submit it to the cluster. It submits sucessfully, and distributes the work. After a few seconds, each node gives me a timeout error:
    "Shared storage client timed out while subscribing to [computer1.local/path to cluster storage]"
    Is this a bandwidth issue? Command line renders work fine, I can render 16 simultaneous Quicktimes to the RAID over NFS. I don't see much network activity on any of the computers when it's trying to start the Compressor render, it's as if it's not even trying to connect.
    If I submit the SAME compressor job to a cluster with nodes ONLY on the controller computer, it renders fine. Clearly the networked nodes are having trouble connecting to the share for some reason.
    Does anybody have any ideas? I have tried almost everything to get this to work. Hooking up each node locally to the RAID is NOT an option unfortunately.

    WELL I DO NOW!
    Thanks. it's taken 6th months and several paid 'professionals' and then you come in here...swinging your minimalist genius. one line. one single line. and its done.

    Hi,
    The reason for the error message:
    The backing map for a partitioned cache may only contain keys that are owned by that member. Cache requests are routed to the service member owning the requested keys, ensuring that service members will only process requests for keys which they own. This message indicates that the backing map for a cache detected an insertion for a key which is not owned by the member. This is most likely caused by a direct use of the backing-map as opposed to the exposed cache APIs in user code running on the cache server.
    Check the link for more details:

    Hope this helps!

  • Needing JARs on storage nodes

    Hi Guys,
    With the advent of PIF/POF is there still a need for the classes you intend to process with entry processors to exist on on the storage nodes?
    I read one message somewhere (someone was getting a classpath error) that implied that despite using 3.2/376 he/she still needed the classes on the classpath.
    Kind Regards,
    Max

    Hi Robert,
    PIF/POF does not necessarily help you anywhere with
    getting rid of any classes ..Yet ;-)
    - it is not currently used at serialization/deserialization, yetCorrect. This is a work in progress, and this specific part of it will be in the next release.
    according to the Changelog and the forums, it is only used by Coherence*ExtendCorrect. It will be used more widely over time.
    - XMLBeans are not PIF/POF-based yetCorrect. This too will change.
    - PIF/POF still refers to class names, so it is currently something like a more versatile
    ExternalizableLite, but they still need the referred classes and all their runtime
    dependency to exist in the storage-enabled node classloadersPIF/POF itself does not refer to class names, but a platform-specific binding does. In Java, we encode the binding in an XML file, and use it as the basis to configure a POF context.
    You will need the following things in a
    storage-enabled node:
    - all Invocable/EntryProcessor/EntryAggregator
    classes
    - all cache-store/cache-loader classes
    - all the runtime dependency of the previous
    - all other classes referred in the cache
    configuration files (custom eviction policies,
    KeyAssociator implementors, etc.)This is true at the current time (release 3.2). Some of it will always be true. As the tools advance, Coherence will do more for you, yet (as always) existing applications will continue to work without changes.
    For example, it will be possible to define classes of objects (what we call a schema) for Coherence to manage without actually writing the code for them, and Coherence will provide the libraries (e.g. documentation, source code, binaries, etc.) necessary for expressing those classes in Java, .NET, etc. That means that Coherence will do more work for you automatically and dynamically in the future, but in the mean time you still have to spell some things out.
    If you use indexes, or queries, you will also need
    all the classes of entries stored in the caches (an
    index uses it when the data is put in the backing
    map; querying uses it, if an index does not exist, or
    does not fully resolve a query).See above ;-)

  • Can not deploy  a remote storage node

    Hello,
    I have started successfully two SNA at two node, because we can ping to each other. But when I use admin console to to deploy the first remote storage node, it always shows the error "Connection refused to host: localhost". I use the command line to deploy a remote storage node. There is the same problem.

    Thanks, Charles. I use network host name or network host IP address instead of localhost and it well resolved my former problem. I can deploy the remote SN. But there is a new problem when I deploy the store. It looks like that these Replication Node at different SN can not communicate with each other, because of mis-match IP address format.
    Note that the node "community01/10.193.128.223" is the first deployed node who holds the administration process, "mi-desktop/127.0.1.1:5011" is another node. I don't understand why the second node uses its loopback adress. Can you help me to find out the solution?
    Here is the original error log.
    "mi-desktop/127.0.1.1:5011 the address associated with this node, is a loopback address. It conflicts with an existing use, by a different node of the address:community01/10.193.128.223:5011 which is not a loopback address. Such mixing of addresses within a group is not allowed, since the nodes will not be able to communicate with each other."I'm not sure I have any good advice, but I would check your /etc/hosts to see if mi-desktop maps to the loopback address (127.0.0.1). If it does, then you need to use a name that does not map to the loopback.

  • New storage node not taking any traffic

    Hi all,
    I have a strange situation where we introduced a few new storage nodes into a cluster that already had about 190 storage nodes running. From what I can tell, the nodes joined the cluster just fine (I see them listed as part of the cluster according to the JMX node, and their logs indicate as much).
    The problem is that they don't seem to take any traffic. Their get and put counts are at 0, their size is at 0. They have the exact same configuration as every other node running in the cluster, and are even running on the same box as other storage nodes (so shouldn't be networking related).
    Any ideas as to what could cause this to happen? They nodes have been up for days now and nothing has changed. There isn't anything along the lines of errors in the storage node logs or anything that seems to be related or would indicate a problem.
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
    What is your partition count set to, is it still the default of 257? If it is then this could be your problem, I have had issues in the past with partition counts too close to the cluster size. For a cluster of 190 nodes you really need a big partition size, we have 8191 on a 170 node cluster.

    Hi Ashok,
                   for your requirement the application is not exist in particular place. It means, the webdynpro application is saved at different package or different location.
                  Please change the webdynpro component name and save it in particular request in package, then transport it to quality ..(development server )
    then go to SICF  t.code .. sap->bc->webdynpro->sap->find  out your application and activate the service of your webdynpro application.

    What options have you selected when you set-up WebLogic?
    You can increase the PermSize and MaxPermSize parameters of the JVM to avoid java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space.
    These parameters can be set in the setDomainEnv file.

  • Error in BPM - Error when processing node '0000000065' ParForEach index

    Hi All,
    I have an issue .. I have done 1:n mapping successfully and would like to place the Send step in loop instead of a Block .. The reason being I have the count of how many times the Send step should executed for multiline.. I need to receive an Acknowledgement for each send step.. If I dont receive the required number of Acknowledgements then .. I need to revert back some Creations which is a business requirement ..
    So .. I have initialized a container operation variable i to '0' .. Then the loop condition is i < count .. Send the multi-container .. Receive the Response .. If dont receive the desired response for any one of the multi-line then I need to do a cancellation process in a loop again .. So .. now I am getting an Exception "Error when processing node '0000000065' (ParForEach index 000000)
    Message no. SWP088" in the loop step ..
    It is fine if somebody can suggest alternate logic can be applied as well but first preference to use a loop which consumes lesser system resources ..
    Kindly look into the Issue
    Regards,
    Raj

    if you use a loop step, you will send one message per time. ussing block step you have parallel processing ussing ParForEach. now is for  X reason the item cannot be created, do a roll back in the target system. the problem here you will do the rollback once the last message reach.
    the other posibility is to handle application ack in the sender step. it will let you know it the message was processed success and this ack could be the end condition of your block step. but you cannot use this with loop step.

  • OBIEE Error 'Root XML Node nqw not found in island!'

    Hello,
    After I altered my Hyperion Essbase structure, my OBIEE Reports don't open.
    I increase one generation in my accounts hierachy, and now when I try open my OBIEE reports, I get the follow error:
    "Root XML Node nqw not found in island"
    Any help?
    Thanks,

    Hi Naresh,
    I hope you have resolved the issue by this time.
    In my case, it was related to an invalid filter on the report.
    I have removed the filter by updating the report .xml file from Catalog Manager.
    Hope this helps other with similar issue.
    Thanks,
    Ravi

  • I have an error of invalid node structure

    I have an error of invalid node structure.  Can I save my data from my hard drive? Is it even fixable?

    Invalid Node Structure is not a hardware failure, it never was (you may still have a hardware failure, but the Invalid Node error is not indicative of this problem.
    Still, Disk utility will certainly fail to fix it, and DiskWarrior will probably fail too.
    But don't despair.  Try this, and don't give up till you've tried it at least three times.
    First, get the name of the partition of the failing volume.   You can get it most easily by finding your disk in Disk Utility, selecting your partition (not the drive) and type cmd-i.    Look for "Disk Identifier" right at the top.
    Then,  open up Terminal, and type this:
    sudo /sbin/fsck_hfs -yprd /dev/disk5s2
    substituting your disk identifier for the one already here.   Keep the "/dev/" part.   Enter your password, and wait.  It may take a while.  I have had this fail several times before finally working so its important to keep trying.   It's faster than a reformat!!!
    If the afflicted disk is your startup disk, you will need to do this in recovery mode: restart the computer, hold down option, and wait for the disk options to appear.   Select that, then proceed to Disk Utility and then Terminal as described above.
    Good luck, and always keep a backup!

  • Error converting DOM nodes into SOAP nodes

    Hi,
    i am doing an http call using http binding activity in oracle soa suite 11g.The http call requires some header information.When I pass the header information through headers in invoke activity and invoke the http call,I get an error " Error converting DOM nodes into SOAP nodes".What might be the reason and how to solve it.
    Naresh

    Hello,
    It appears your code is trying to repeat messagePart itself. Split Joins strictly adheres to a WSDL definition for incoming and outgoing messages.
    Instead of repeating <RootElement> which is defined as single occurance in your message definition within WSDL, you should find a way to tweak the WSDL to have "repetitive node which will become single message after split" within 1 Root element.
    This will call for having need of implementing transformation within split join based on need of target input message. Below is the example:
    WSDL contains:
    <wsdl:message name="inputMessageName">
         <wsdl:part name="partInput" element="rootElement"/>
    </wsdl:message>
    What your current xml structure is(please note how message itself is repeating below while it has been defined as single in wsdl, unfortunately there is nothing maxOccurs for message in WSDL definition , although you can define multiple parts but that is not case here):
    <soap:Body>
    <rootElement>
    </rootElement>
    <rootElement>
    </rootElement>
    <rootElement>
    </rootElement>
    </soap:Body>
    What Split-Join expects(If you have existing wsdl then you need to tweak it to conform to below kind of structure then use transformation within split join to convert it into correct xml structure for outgoing):
    <soap:Body>
    <rootElement>
         <repetitiveElementSpecificToIndividualSplitRequest/>
         <repetitiveElementSpecificToIndividualSplitRequest/>
         <repetitiveElementSpecificToIndividualSplitRequest/>
    </rootElement>
    </soap:Body>
    I hope this helps.

  • Creating thread (service)? in storage nodes using my custom classes?

    Is it possible to create one's own thread in a storage node - say, by defining a service with a custom class?
    The service configuration element states
    +"<service-component>      Required      Specifies either the fully qualified class name of the service or the relocatable component name relative to the base Service component. "+
    I have tried specifying my own class (fully qualified class name) here, which is in the classpath and implements com.tangosol.net.InvocationService but it is never loaded, and throws the following exception into my app when it calls CacheFactory.getService(name):
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Unknown service type: Invocation
    at com.tangosol.coherence.component.net.Cluster.ensureService(Cluster.CDB:65)
    at com.tangosol.coherence.component.util.SafeCluster.ensureSafeService(SafeCluster.CDB:14)

    at com.tangosol.net.DefaultConfigurableCacheFactory.ensureService(DefaultConfigurableCacheFactory.java:294)
    at com.tangosol.net.CacheFactory.getService(CacheFactory.java:644)
    Is this the wrong way to do it? Is there another way (other than something ugly like creating a thread in an invocable)?
    Thanks

    Hi
    Can you explain what you are trying to accomplish in more detail? Are you trying to run a background thread on the member that owns the data?
    In any case your really shouldn't be adding new service types or service components in the cluster configuration file. See this thread Re: <service-name> tag in config XML file
    thanks
