Permissions error saving or exporting iWork 3 files

Using Numbers 3.0.1. I consistently get permissions errors Saving As or exporting a Numbers (or the new Keynote) document. Even to my Desktop.
I've recently repaired permissions on this machine (via booting to the Recovery Partition). Occasionally choosing another save location will do the trick, but often not. Usually it doesn't matter where I try to save to. Sometimes quitting the app and restarting helps. But more often than not, the issue continues.

Ok, using the Console log I was able to spot the file "com.apple.iwork.numbers". I deleted it, restarted the computer and oh magic it worked.
I still won't be that confident as I have this issue coming in and out. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.
If anyone know where to look, this is my consol log related to the issue:

  • Float4() causes "error saving Pixel Bender Byte Code file" error when exporting for flash player

    Simple test
    <languageVersion : 1.0;>
    kernel untitled
    <   namespace : "Your Namespace";
        vendor : "Your Vendor";
        version : 1;
    >
        input image4 src;
        output pixel4 dst;
        void
        evaluatePixel()
            dst = float4(sampleNearest(src, outCoord()));
    The above code will produce a "error saving Pixel Bender Byte Code file" error when exporting for flash player in Pixel Bender Toolkit 2.5.449694.
    "dst = (sampleNearest(src, outCoord()));" works fine. And anything like "float4 a= float4(b);" will give same error.

    Thank you for the error report.  I'll put it into our bug database.  We're bottling things up for the current version.  Gven the workaround, it is unlikely we'll be addressing this bug soon.  Please accept my apologies for the annoyance this will cause.
    In your second example, float4 a = float4(b), does it return an error if b is only a float4 or regardless of what b is?  If b is a scalar float, for example, is the conversion performed correctly? If so, this could be an error that only crops up when using constructor/conversion syntax when the thing being converted is already the correct type.
    Thanks,
    Chuck.

  • Permissions error when trying restore of individual files/folders in Time Machine

    Hi,
    I am trying to restore an individual file or folder from my time machine backup in Snow Leopard and TM doesn't allow me to do so. The error message that I get is: "The folder "foldername" can't be opened because you don't have permissions to see its contents."
    I am running Snow Leopard and always backed up using TM, approx. once per month.
    Approx. one month ago, I did a full HD wipe and system reinstall from the scratch without migrating any files, using slightly new User Names etc. After the re-install, I ran TM twice on the newly installed configuration and using my same old external backup drive. I did not change the OS. It was SL before and I re-installed SL.
    So, I have quite a coherent set of incremental backups and I can also "see" all the folders in my backup volume's directory. Only, I can't access or restore anything that is on the "timeline" before the system re-install.
    I found out that it has something to do with the User Permissions, but I can't figure out how to fix it because when I try to use "Get Info" on the TM folder that I want to restore, the permissions are grayed out and I can't add myself to it.
    Help, I really need these old files and folders. After all, that was what I thought TM was good for.
    Thanks.

    You need to be more specific what types of files are you trying to restore. It sounds like you just need to learn how to use TM which is pretty darn easy. Here is one good article and you can always use Apple's find out how video on TM.

    When I try to save it on the disk using (on target)
    create xmlfile ' /tmp/test_demo_geo.xml' from schema MY_GEO_SCHEMA
    I get an error

    Hi Lembit,
    Thanks for posting current syntax to write the xml file.
    Even i am triying the same to write out an xml file from my xml schema.
    I executed my interface which inserted 3 records into target XML schema and inserted data i can in the XML model data store.
    I wrote a procedure to write XML schema data including newly inserted 3 records, i went through,but all record of XML model is written into file.
    my create xml command looks like create xml file "D:\temp\XML\gan_out.xml" from schema DEPT_TRG_SCH.
    Now i have around 10 records in the XML datastore in target XML model. I want to write an XML file each record from XML data store.

  • Permissions Error When Exporting

    Hi everybody. I was hoping someone could help. My company uses Soundtrack Pro for our audio work, and recently we have decided to set up the ability to create web-quality video/sound. So, because of this, our managers wanted a way to inventory the digital files from their pc's. We purchased a drive cataloging software and after I installed and set up Sharepoints on the macs, they were able to view the files on the mac's external drives.
    But it seems after I did that, we started getting intermittent permissions errors only when exporting the finished product to the external hard drive. It said something like "cannot export file; inadequate permissions or insufficient hard drive space." I know we have enough hard drive space. Files can still be written to the drive from Soundtrack, such as if we just saved the project to it, but frequently it does not allow us to export.
    Thanks Guys.

    I still get the error. I have disabled sharepoints, set the drive to ignore permissions, changed everything. I'm starting to think that its a hardware problem, and that error is getting kicked back because Soundtrack doesn't know what to do... idk, any help would be appreciated.

  • Just upgraded to Lion and cannot open files on my old SL partition - permissions error

    I have just installed Lion on my 2008 MacPro on a new internal HD and cannot open word/text etc  files on the original Snow Leopard disc.  I get a permissions error.  I can preview the file but not open it.  When I do a get info, I can add my user and give it R&W permissions but still cannot open the file.  I have a third disc with just videos and no system and this is OK.
    For information my upgrade method was as follows:
         Install blank hard disc and fromat it.
         Clone original HD onto new drive using CCC
         Give it a new name
         Boot from the new clone and go through the lion install
         Update the new system to 10.7.4
         Repair disc permissions
    Through this method, I have a duplicate set of files on the Lion partition and these I have no problem opening, it is just those on the SL disc.
    Any ideas as to how to fix this.  I did the duplication as I still want to be able to boot from SL for some old applications and hardware (a film scanner being one).
    Thanks
    Dave

    Softwater,
    Well, I booted back into SL, and as I mentioned, I did have filesharing enabled.  So I added the whole disc as shared and re-booted back into Lion.
    Still no luck. I get exactly the same permissions error and cannot open any files.  This seems crazy that from Lion I cannot open files on other bootable partitions.
    I added myself as a RW permission on the disc via Get info and still cannot see the files. This is very strange behaviour.  According to get info on the disc, I have full read/write access and on the file itself.
    I can see all the files on non-bootable partions.

  • InDesign CS6 "Failed to export the JPEG file. File cannot be written. Disk may be locked or full."

    I get this error "Failed to export the JPEG file. File cannot be written. Disk may be locked or full." when sending small (3"x3") and large (40"x60") files to a printer hot folder. Sometime if I close the program and restart it will let me export. What could be causing this to happen?
    I am on Windows 7 with 4GB RAM PC.

    I guess the printer is grabbing the file before it is entirely written…
    Workaround: Do not save to a hot folder. Move the files after exporting to the hot folder.

  • Can't open gifs?!  I'm getting permissions errors even though I'm the admin.  Help!

    I assume this is new since upgrading to Mavericks.  I'm having all kinds of permissions errors where if I open a file (pdf, gif, jpg, etc) even though I'm logged in as myself, and I'm the admin.  I've repaired permissions, but no errors were found.  When I click Get Info on a file, it shows that I have permission to read & write.  What?!  I'm baffled!!!

    Back up all data.
    This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
    Step 1
    If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box markedAllow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
    Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use  another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
    You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
    The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
    Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
    Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
    from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
    In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
    Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
    Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
    Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
    Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
    Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • After migrating to a new MBP, when saving or opening documents, I sometimes (but not always) get a warning such as: "Word cannot save this document due to a naming or permissions error on the destination volume." Can someone please explain?

    I recently migrated from a MBP with OS 10.6 to a MCB with OS 10.8. Some glitches are popping up. Here's the one on my mind at the moment:
    When saving or opening documents, I get a warning such as: "Word cannot save this document due to a naming or permissions error on the destination volume." Can someone please explain?

    Since this is isolated to a single file, try exporting it to Interchange Format (.inx), then open and save the resulting file as a new InDesign file.
    Since the problem occurs during export, that may not be possible. Another option to try would be to copy all elements, page by page, and "paste in place" into a new document the same size. If you used layers, be sure to enable "paste remembers layers" in the layers panel menu.
    This kind of problem is often indicative of an underlying font issue. You said there are only three fonts, and you should verify that in Type > Find Font... Try replacing, at least temporarily the fonts in use with something else that you know to be reliable from other documents. You might want to do this before the other steps.

  • SSRS PDF Export. There was an error opening this document. This file is damaged and could not be repaired

    Hello,
    I just experienced this problem, and was able to successfully mitigate.  I wanted to share my experience and Solution.
    The problem started with the following error after succesfully exporting a PDF Document.  "There was an error opening this document. This file is damaged and could not be repaired."
    This is only applicable if you can still export and open SSRS Reports to other formats. Go to the Log files of the SQL Instance. In my particular case I used the Default MSSQL instance:   C:\ Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10_50.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting
    Services\LogFiles
    The Folder will begin with MSRS (SRS is for SQL Reporting Services)
    Sort the files by date modified and check for the most recent log file: ex.  SQLDmpr0000.log  The 0000 will be the incremental amount of errors you have experienced in SRS. Check for the following error:
    "System.DllNotFoundException: Unable to load DLL 'T2Embed': Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))"
    Below is a sample from the log.

    If you notice the error states that T2Embed.dll access is denied. In my case this due to a hotfix installed by Microsoft:
     MS11-087: Vulnerability in Windows kernel-mode drivers could allow remote code execution: December 13, 2011
    Be advised, in order to fix your problem and render pdf's, a vulnerability shall be created.
     To fix this issue and allow the export to PDF work correctly, you must give the system Read/Execute Permissions, and Built-in\Administrators Full Control.
    Go to Windows\System32 and find the T2Embed.dll Go to Security and modify the permissions as listed above. Do the same to the T2Embed.dll in the SysWow64 folder.
    Restart Reporting Services and you will be able to export to PDF.
    Best Wishes!

    www.lucontech.com

    I'm not convinced this is the exact cause of the issue.  I will check my log files to see if I find anything like what you described.  However, I get this error when a particular user tries to do a "print preview" from a custom button.  The
    code builds a ReportViewer object, sets the ReportPath, etc.
    The reason I'm not convinced is because we have a separate reports page that has the report viewer embedded into it.  If the user generates the report that way and exports to PDF, Word, etc...the user can generate the file and be on their way.  As
    soon as the user clicks our "Print" button on the page without the ReportViewer embedded, the above mentioned error occurs.
    UPDATE: Perhaps we have a different problem since my issue is from a custom button.  I found the solution
    here and confirmed the solution with the customer.  It had to do with the code using Response.Flush() instead of Response.End().
    One thing I noticed before I implemented the change: When you would close the PDF, it would ask you to save changes to the PDF.  After implementing Response.End() instead, that prompt went away.  No doubt it has to do with the differences between
    how Response.Flush() and Response.End() handle the stream returned.
    Anyway, posting in case someone has the same issue.
