Permissions Password Opens File - Acrobat 9

I noticed today that I am able to open files with the "permissions password" even when I have set up a separate file password to open the file.  I am using a separate permissions password on my files so that clients cannot edit the files I send to them.  No one should be able to access the file with only this password.  I do not know how long this has been a problem as I only happened to stumble upon it today because I accidentally typed the wrong password and Adobe still let me in.  After noticing, I updated to the newest version and still had the same problem.
Has anyone else run into this problem?  I have not contacted Adobe yet but I think this is something they need to fix on their end.  Thank you.

Back to the future!
As a principal developer in our Sharepoint environment, I routinely used Acrobat 9 Pro to modify documents on our corporate intranet. Other uses, however, accessed the same documents with Reader working entirely within their browser. My workaround  has been to re-install Acrobat 7. Documents now open entirely in the browser, and relative links work as before.

  • Don't have permissions to open file

I am trying to open an .NEF raw file. I transfered it from my desktop to my laptop. It is readable on my desktop machine. I can open  other Nikon .NEF raw files.
It seems to be a permissions thing

Open the Info window for the problem file. What is shown in the Sharing & Permissions section?
Repairing permissions in Disk Utility will have no effect. It's always a waste of time unless you have an indication of a permission error involving system files, which you don't and probably never will.

I cannot seem to edit PDF files on Adobe Acrobat as it says the files are protected and I need to enter a Permissions Password?

If the files have a permissions password, you need to know it, and remove security, before you can edit the files. That is correct.

  • Acrobat distiller won't open file from word to create pdf

I can choose acrobat from word and print pdf -- but acrobat pro 9 gives me an error message when I try to select a file from word to create a pdf. I can print acrobat from word but not from acrobat
The error message just says can't open, check if you have read permissions for this file.  I've been doing this, but now it won't select a file from word.
    Thanks.

Sorry Bill, It's Word 7.  I can create an acrobat pdf by choosing it when I print in word but if I try to create a pdf from acrobat - from the file - it won't work.  I get the same error.  Can't open  do you have read priviledges.  Not sure what that is or if there is a setting someplace that got checked or unchecked.
    Thanks.

  • How to open password protected files in Numbers for iPad?

In my company, there are formats created in Excel 2010 which have password-protetected cells. Neither Numbers, nor Doccuemts to Go can't open them.
The workaround is having someone open the file in my office and re-save it in an older version, but it messes up with the formatting and it's simply not a practical solution.
Documents to Go still doesn't support Office 2010 password protected files. Numbers niether, so does anyone know of any app that can solve my problem?

Go to the App Store on your iPad and download Adobe Acrobat DC (formerly called Reader).
Open it and click on Help. Then click on Handbook. Read the section on "Open PDFs in Acrobat DC"

You can test this in the sample application named ActiveViewVC.

  • Open Password protected files - up to version 9

The Acrobat reader released for Android will only open version 6 files with ANY  type of security applied. As a publisher, I need to be able to publish secure  documents in current formats (version 9). Saving back 3 revs is a little crazy and  can only prevent printing, not access and can be cracked for free in seconds. Need to be able open Version 9  and older password protected files (access and printing control).  Thanks.

The third party solutions rely on features in the Desktop / PC Reader (like JavaScript) that are not supported in the Mobile Reader. So, when your school says you must use Adobe Reader it means the desktop Reader and its full feature set. If you have a sample file and can share it, I can verify, but the problem you describe sounds exactly like one of these third-party protection solutions. Typically, they embed a login field in the document itself and use JavaScript to communicate with a server for verification. The solutions supported by the Mobile Reader either use password protection as documented in the PDF specification where the Reader does not need to validate with a server, or they use the Adobe LiveCycle Rights Management. I’d like to figure out how to support these third party solutions in the Adobe Reader Mobile product, but without help from the vendor, it will take some time and possibly reverse engineering which features of the Adobe Reader Desktop product they are using.

I am using Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard version in Windows 8.1 and when I try to create a .pdf file, I receive the following error message "Acrobat could not open "file name.log" because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged.  To create a PDF document, go to the source application then print the document to .pdf"  I am going to the source application and printing the document to .pdf yet it's saving the file as a .log file.  After reinstalling the software, I initially didn't encounter this problem but on my second and third attempts to convert files to .pdf format, this error message reappeared.  How do I resolve this problem?

  • After QT7.4, AE error-you do not have permissions to open this file (-54)

Immediately after installing the QT 7.4 update, I have been unable to render (anything) in After Effects.
I get an error: After Effects error: opening movie - you do not have permissions to open this file (-54)
    (44::53)
I have repaired permissions, downloaded the Full QT 7.4 installer, reinstalled, repaired permissions again and still the same problem. Something has changed in QT that has made AE incompatible.
Apple, please fix or offer some assistance on how to fix.
The AE forums are also beginning to fill with everyone having this same issue after an update to QT 7.4
My work has come to a halt. How do I fix this?
I can't find any info on reverting back to QT 10.3.1

"Apple, please fix or offer some assistance on how to fix."
Apple does not read these postings. These are user to user forums whereas everyday folks post questions & offer help to each other.
    "How do I fix this?"
Check out Klaus1 possible solution in the following thread:

"I can't find any info on reverting back to QT 10.3.1"
    You really mean 7.3.1 right?
Do an archive and install of your OS from the OS disc. Stop at the QT upgrade you need.

    Hi all,

I have setup a trusted location to the document library where the Excel spreadsheet resides, and I still recieved the error.  I changed the location to the entire site and I still recieve the error.  I am the Sharepoint Admin, so I have full
    rights to all.
    I am on SharePoint 2007.
I set the location as Http://sitename/document Library name
Location type = Windows SP Services
    Checked trust Children
there are no extrernal connections so I took the defaults for all other options.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    TIA,
    Joe

    Hi,
I understand that when you try to open an excel file in browser, you received Access Denied error.  You can check the excel service settings in Central Administration like this :
Open Central Administration -> go to Operations tab. Ensure that the Excel Service is running
Open Central Administration -> go to your configured Shared Service -> click Excel Service Settings. Set  File Access Method:  ensure that it is not using Impersonation, instead the Option Process Account should be enabled.
Open Central Administration -> go to your configured Shared Service -> click add new trusted file location.
field URL: here you can specify a report library or the whole portal
Location Type: should be Windows SharePoint Services
Children trusted: defines whether the children should also be trusted or only the defined path

  • Pdf file created in Word 2008 will not open in Acrobat 8.2.6 or any other Adobe program

I have created a 12 page newsletter in Microsoft Word Publisher 2008 and have done so many times before with no problem. Today, I have tried to save it as a .pdf file both in Save As and through the printer. Each .pdf file created in Word will not open in Acrobat 8.2.6, Photoshop C3, Adobe Reader  nor any other Adobe software.
When I go to open it in Acrobat, my Mac gives me the spinning rainbow. If I try to click on the file, I get a watch and then Acrobat crashes or I have to force quit the software. I really need to convert this file and get it to the printer. Any advice???
    Mac OS X 10.6.7
    Word 08 12.2.8
    Acrobat 8.2.6
    Adobe Reader 10.0.0

    Here is a better example.
    https://www.calcerts.com/PBR1.pdf
is the original PDF file that is uploaded by a user.  Note that it is only 48kb in size.
I take the file, add a couple of watermarks and a footer for each page as well as a small image on the last page, add security on it and BAM, the file:
    https://www.calcerts.com/PBR1_AFTER.pdf
is now 1.5 MB and it takes a LONG time to print.
    Thoughts?

  • Are there settings in Acrobat to enable a PDF file to open in Acrobat or Acrobat Reader by Default rather than open in a Browser

Are there settings in Acrobat to enable a PDF file to open in Acrobat or Acrobat Reader by Default rather than open in a Browser

There is a check box in the preference (under edit). I have not had great success with this setting, but that is what it is supposed to do. Don't expect it to happen in Chrome that has it's own PDF viewer (or the preview function on a MAC). You might also check the settings for your particular browser.
