Permissions problems.. why am I denied from changing files?

Folks,
Whenever I try to change a file, I get the "permission denied" line.
When I get info on these files, the r/w permissions are correct. Still, no luck.
I tried chmod (specifically, chmod -R 755 blah blah) and I get this type of error:
chmod: "directory/file name here": Operation not permitted
Operation not permitted? So, anyway, my paperweight seems to be lying to me about my file permissions, as I can not run a program that changes any files, or change them myself. What's going on here? Is my entire file system corrupt in some way that Mac can't detect?
Also, I have run the disk utility and verified/fixed my permissions, without luck. This is a real bummer, as my comp is useless for a lot of stuff.
Any ideas?
And just to make sure I don't get a lot of "Get Info --> Set Permission" stuff, it's all r+w for all users.

If Disk Utility repaired disk permissions and reported no problems under disk repair the problem must lie elsewhere.
I would suggest creating a new User/Admin account, logging into that account and see if it works better. Then you can delete the old account.
To do the open System Preferences in the Apple Menu. Then go to Accounts. Add new account by clicking + at bottom left. Enter all information then click on Security heading. Check box at bottom "Allow User to Administer this computer". Go to Login Options and select whether you want a password login or not.

I used the same string and this is my output on 10.2.

Problem with accessing init parameters from JSP file

I have my init parameters and Jsp configured in web.xml

Permissions problem when trying to import from a cd to itunes

Error message: while converting files - do not have enought access privileges for this operation.
Check permissions on Music folder.
I have check permissions on the music folder and changed it from read only. I then hit apply. When I check again it has gone back to read only. Am I doing something wrong? I can put the same cd on a different computer and it will import into itunes.
Appreciate any input!

If Im thinking right this denotes a corrupt permission file for the Music Folder you have to repair using Tweak UI from Microsoft. The step are covered here at apple.com http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302398

How to avoid the split problem when uploading the data from csv file

              I have to upload data from the .csv file to my custom table , i have found a problem when uploading the data .
i am using the code as below , please suggest me what i have to do in this regard
      SPLIT wa_raw_csv AT ',' INTO
                wa_empdata_csv-status
                 wa_empdata_csv-userid
                 wa_empdata_csv-username
                 wa_empdata_csv-Title
                 wa_empdata_csv-department.
APPEND wa_empdata_csv TO itab.
in the flat file i can see for one of the record for the field Title as
Director, Finance - NAR............there by through my code the wa_empdata_csv-Title is getting splited data as "Director, and Department field is getting Finance - NAR" , i can see that even though " Director, Finance - NAR" is one word it is getting split .
.......which is the problem iam facing.Please could any body let me know how in this case i should handle in my code that this word
"Director,Finance - NAR"   wil not be split into two words.

Hi Madhuri,
Best way to avoid such problem is to use TAB delimited file instead of comma separated data. Generally TAB does not appear in data.
If you are generating the file, use tab instead of comma.
If you cannot modify the format of file and data length in file is fixed character, you will need to define the structure and then move data in fixed length structure.

Problem reading external HTML format from text file

I have a text file containing html formatted text which I try to get into a textfield.
All works fine locally and even on my localhost test server, but when uploading to the real server - I get a blank.
Anyone have any ideas? THANKS

The text file is generated by PHP script that gets an html formated text from flash (it is an online editing part of an application):
the AS code to call the php:

Why do Mac Appstore updates change file size when downloading?

I was updating iMovie to the current version 10.0.3
When it was downloading, it went
from: "downloading 100 MB of 200+ MB"
to: "downloading 300+ MB of 1.97 GB"
Why does it do that? The same thing happens when I'm downloading iPhoto, Keynote, Pages & other Apple apps.

If you go to iMovie at the App Store, look at the box on the right that says: Information
The file size is; 1.97GB's.
100MB of .... that's the status of the download.
It's nothing to be concerned about.

Web Services from WSDL file

Hi there. I am new for Java Web Services.
I'm trying to generate a web service from a .wsdl file. This file includes a references to other .xsd files
and that's the problem.
First I've tried with JBuilder 9 but it gave me some problems with some element definitions from xsd file (such as those elements defined as 'choice'): there were generated some classes with repeated elements (such as variables and methods), some classes with strange names (it was added a 'TypeN' label to the name of the class), etc.
Then I've tried with Sun One Studio 5. It didn't support 'include' tags in the wsdl file.
Later I've tried with Weblogic Workshop but an error with an internal class of Weblogic was generated.
Can anyone tell me what editor could I use to generate the Java Web Services?

Permissions problems, keep changing and can't save from within application

Hi there, we're running Mavericks server on our local network with a half dozen MBP and iMacs connected.
For a wee while now, our users have been getting permissions problems. Documents (Excel documents, InDesign, Photoshop etc.) are becoming read only and we can't save them to either the same folder from within the application. Even ones that the same user has created. The thing is, we can copy the document to our desktop and then back again to the same folder and continue to edit and save normally.
I've tried setting the Access for our "Group" to "Read & Write" but to no avail, this keeps happening. I can login to the server as admin and correct the permissions but they seem to keep reverting somewhere along the line...
Apologies if there's something obvious I'm overlooking.
Any recommendations? Would you recommend just removing all users and groups and starting again? Am I missing something?

Thanks Linc, I have selected the folders that are shared from the Server App "Storage" tab and made sure the permissions are correct and then "propogated" them.
All users belong to the same group we call "material".
Just wondering, should I do this sort of thing when no one is connected to the server? Or should I require that everyone log off and back on?

In my case, the folder was there, so I needed the command to change permissions on the folder, not to create one. I was hesitant to use Terminal b/c I know that if I made an error I could wipe out my hard drive or render my computer unusable. So to be SURE I didn't make an error, I carefully copied the command from that page and *pasted* it into Terminal. Also, before I could do anything in Terminal, I had to go change my admin password (it had been a blank password before and that's not acceptable for making changes in Terminal). I was just super careful when entering my password or doing anything else while Terminal was open (making sure I didn't accidently hit the spacebar or another key, etc.) And it fixed the problem right away.
What was confusing for me was that the iTunes error message said to change permissions in the FINDER, which is what I was trying to do. It didn't mention Terminal. What would really be helpful is if Apple included a link to a page like this in their error message.

HT2963 How can I fix permissions problems now that I have changed permission on my HD and have error code -8076, locked disk or ....?

iMac v10.7.4. Error message says disk is locked. Permissions set for read/write admin (me). Can't open iTunes, Mail, photoshop, adobe bridge [you do not have permission!]. Fonts in Word are unexpected, not cambria. Used Disk utility to repair permissions (ran it twice, once before reinstalling photoshop from DVD; once today). Situation worsening.

Permissions problems occurred after I downloaded Lion update on 6092012. I believe the problem originates with Lion (see the 19 pages of posted problems in the community). I have now talked with Apple Support rep and an Apple Genius. Have reinstalled Lion from the HD Recovery disk. I see some improvement but also at least one new problem: TimeMachine apparently has lost all backups, don't know how or why.
