Hi Expert,
please help me about my question
my configuration is
OS win2003 32 bit
ram 3gb
database size=80gb
oracle 8i
db_block_buffers=122880

large_pool_size =24576000
log_buffer=104857600
db_block_size=8192
sort_area_size=5242880
sort_area_retained_size=5242880
**now i have server with following configuration**
ram 64 GB
database size 80 GB
processor 2.13 ghz with 8 CPU
how to configure following parameter
db_block_buffers=?
shared_pool_size=?
large_pool_size =?

Why didn't you show all of the same info for both servers? What is the OS for the new server? What is the processor config for the old? Oracle 8i on the new?
how to configure following parameter
db_block_buffers=?
shared_pool_size=?
large_pool_size =?
log_buffer=?
db_block_size=?
sort_area_size=?
sort_area_retained_size=?Leave db_block_size at 8k. None of the others are etched in stone, and may be changed at will, though possibly requiring a restart of the database. Leave them where they are as well. They aren't going to be show-stoppers, and can be modified as it is determined it is needed. It is not possible with the information we have to determine what values are "correct". In fact, it could be argued that there are no "correct" values, just some values that will tend to perform better than others.
And of course you realize that 8i is LOONGG out of support. You'll not be getting much help from Oracle when this system goes belly-up.

    You can follow my below action plan
    1) Why you want to go to new server?
    Is the DB was slow? --> if yes then you need to run your application with new server
    2) if its 9i or 10g and then run the advisory and check for estimated physical read for db_cache_size
    3) Is it shared_Pool then you need to check shared_pool advisory section and similarly for large_pool_size etc..
    according to me you can decide the size of memory structure only after running your application with database.
    After migration, please collect the system stats

  • Moving oracle database to a new server with an upgraded oracle software

    Hi Guys,
    Here is the scenario, we have an existing Oracle 9.2 demo database on a Solaris 5.9 server. I was asked to transfer this to another server with same OS but with an Oracle 10g software installed. The original plan was to mount the exisiting Oracle home from the original server to the new server and from there copy all the database files and bring up the database.
    Here are the steps:
    - Issue an "alter database backup controlfile to trace", get the script from the trace file
    - Copy all database files to the new server
    - Edit parameter files
    - Do a startup mount recreate the control files, do a recover database, and startup the database on the new server.
    I suggested that we to a transport tablespace but due to limited resources and that the 9.2 database does not have this feature we can't perform this process. I also can't do a exp/imp of the database since we really have limited resources on a disk. I was wondering if the steps I enumerated above are correct? Or would result in an error?

    Hi,
    why you want to recreate the controlfile, does the mount point locations are changing from old server to new server?
    if you recreating controlfile new incarnation starts, keep in mind.
    you have the downtime to upgrade.. :)
    shutdown
    take cold backup and move to new server.
    create the directory structure as exist in PFILE including CRD files.
    install software
    startup upgrade
    upgrade database(need to add sysaux TBS)
    shut immediate
    startup
    *@?/rdbms/admin/utlrp.sql*
    change hostname in listner.ora/tnsnames.ora files.
    Thanks

  • Oracle 10g instalattion on new server

    I need to install Oracle Database Satnadard 10g on my new server Dell PowerEdge 2900.
    First I need to install the LINUX on it, can any tell me what is the best for the Oracle DB:
    - RedHat ES or Suse 9 or Suse 10, I work with slackware in preasent time.
    - ext3 or reiserfs ist best for DB
    - how I can make partitions for Linux and Oracle
    Oracle 10g Standard Edition
    Processor 2 GHz dual-core xeon
    Memory 2 GB Ram
    Storage controller Perc5i
    Hard Disk 76 GB X 6 10K Hot swap
    I think about:
    suse 10
    ext3
    2 x HDD on system in raid 0
    4 x HDD on oracle in raid 1+0
    partition: /boot, swap, /, /var, /usr, /home,
    swap 2MB

    RedHat ES or Suse 9 or Suse 10, I work with slackware in preasent time.RHEL 4 is simple and there is TONS of info on installing/supporting Oracle on it. I would use that.
    ext3 or reiserfs ist best for DBActually, this might surprise you but for the Oracle stuff you might want to use plain old ext2. Journaling on tablespace files (and redo logs) isn't so much fun. Use ext3 for your root partition though.
    how I can make partitions for Linux and OracleI would do /, /tmp, and /oracle at a minimum. If this is going to be an Oracle server and not something people have shell access to, you don't need /boot, /home, /var, and /usr to be separate partitions.
    Storage controller Perc5iDoes the perc5i allow more than 4 disks per volume? If so, do 6xHDD on a RAID10. Otherwise, to 2xHDD on a RAID1 for / and /tmp and do 4xHDD in a RAID10 for /oracle.

  • Connecting oracle dev 2000 forms to oracle 9i database on another server

    we have these oracle developer 2000 forms (in .fmx format) in a server and the data of these forms in another server.... the server with the data is very old and is very slow...so we decided to relocate the database(oracle 9i) to a new server..... also, we move the developer 2000 forms from the old server to another server which will serve as the front end to the new data server.
    The problem is we can't figure out how to make the developer 2000 forms on the new front end server to point to the new database on the new data server. I would really appreciate if u cud gimme some advice on this... so we need to know how the forms find the data, where this "connection string" is for developer 2000 forms.

    You have to create a Net Service from "Net Configuration Assistant". Or you can copy TNSNAMES.ora file from your old server to new server. You can find TNSNAMES.ora file in developer_suite_Home/Network/admin folder.

  • Oracle 11G Instance moving to a new server

    Hi,
    We are planning to move oracle Instance which we used for configuration of our EPM System 11.1.2.2. Is there a way to reconfigure EPM system with the oracle instance on the new server.

    Yes ,
    Check out the section:

  • Oracle 10.2.0.3 Databases  - Restore to New Server

    We will soon be replacing an old server with a new server and I need to restore all Oracle 10.2.0.3 databases to the new server
    and ensure Oracle functionality/connectivity with all databases.
    I am in the process of testing and need advice and hopefully a 'Step by Step' process I can follow.
    I am a systems admin - not an Oracle db admin - so please explain details of any commands I may have to run.
    I have already tested once:
    ran command prompt: sqplus / as sysdba
    SQL>shutdown immediate;
    Stopped all Oracle services:
    Oracle Database
    Oracle Listener
    Oracle DBConsole
    Installed Oracle 10.2.0.3 on new server
    Ensured that the SID and all other Oracle services information matched the old server during installation on the new server.
    Stopped all Oracle services on the new server (used the steps above).
    Backed-up and test restored to new server.
    Enterprise Manager shows: Listener Up Database Instance Down Agent Down
    Any help would be appreciated

    It would be good to know your operation system. I hope both new and old match or similar.
    You can use RMAN to dumplicate you DB so you can follow [Creating a Duplicate Database on a New Host. Doc ID: 388431.1|https://support.oracle.com/CSP/main/article?cmd=show&type=NOT&id=388431.1]
    but a simple file system copy based manual duplication is also possible if new and old OS system is similar...

    Oracle in OraDb10g_home1 points to a directory that doesn't exists since the uninstall.  I deleted this variable.
    I also receive the following warning during prerequiste check (but I appeared to have a solution according ot the documentation)
    Checking Network Configuration requirements ...
    Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed <<<<
    Problem: The install has detected that the primary IP address of the system is DHCP-assigned.
    Recommendation: Oracle supports installations on systems with DHCP-assigned IP addresses; However, before you can do this, you must configure the Microsoft LoopBack Adapter to be the primary network adapter on the system. See the Installation Guide for more details on installing the software on systems configured with DHCP.
    After delete the environment variable I restarted the Install and it installed fine.

  • Problem using template in database configuration assistant Oracle 10g

    Hi,
    I created a database using the database configuration assistant for Oracle 10g on a Windows Server 2003 box. The database I created worked perfectly, and I had saved it as a template so I could save some time when creating similar databases (which I have to do on occasion)
    When I try to use the template though, I get an error (at about 4% through the database creation) saying:
    ORA-01501: CREATE DATABASE failed
    ORA-09314: sltln: error translating logical name
    I'm creating this new database on the same server as the one I created my previous database on and NOTHING has changed on it, I did this just minutes apart and can duplicate it at will (just try and use a template)
    Heres the template file contents (KM1.dbt)

  • Note 830576 - Parameter recommendations for Oracle 10g

    hi all DBA experts.
    I am not good familiar with Oracle database while i read a Note 830576 - Parameter recommendations for Oracle 10g. in which SAP General Recommendation:
    You should delete obsolete initialization parameters from the profile.
    To determine which obsolete parameters are currently set, proceed as follows:
    SQL> SELECT NAME FROM V$OBSOLETE_PARAMETER WHERE ISSPECIFIED = 'TRUE';
    when i execute above command then result is no rows selected
    while there are many parameters in above SAP Note which are already obsolete and not set in initSID.ora file.
    for exp.  the parameter OPTIMIZER_INDEX_COST_ADJ  is showing
    #### OPTIMIZER MODE
    #optimizer_index_cost_adj = 10
    as you know that this parameter is very important regarding System Performance.
    now please guide me . I have to set these parameter or no need while there is not showing any parameters against obsolete command.
    waiting you valuable reply.
    Regards,

    hi both,
    thanks for knowledge sharing with me other SDN users,
    Dear Orkun,
    Ok. At this stage, I can recommend you that apply what they have suggested,
    in the message. So, you already did a part of it by configuring
    Oracle parameters, already.
    SAP support sent me this file (PRD_Parameters)

  • Parameter event - to be set according to  EWA report

    Good day fellas,
    I have a problem on my EWA report :
    event 10027 trace name context forever, level 1
      10028 trace name context forever, level 1
      10142 trace name context forever, level 1
      10183 trace name context forever, level 1
      10411 trace name context forever, level 1
      10629 trace name context forever, level 32
      14532 trace name context forever, level 1

      10191 trace name context forever, level 1
      10753 trace name context forever, level 2
      10191 trace name context forever, level 1
      10091 trace name context forever, level 1
    and a bit below:
    The following table lists events we found to be activated in your system, but which should only be activated in special circumstances. Please check whether there are special reasons to set these events. If they are no longer needed, they should be removed.
    Event
    10091
    How can I check these special circumstances and if this parameter is needed ?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi deepakkori.
    The parameter is already defined in initSID.ora:
    *.event='10027 trace name context forever, level 1','10028 trace name context forever, level 1','10142 trace name context forever, level 1','10183 trace name context forever, le
    vel 1','10411 trace name context forever, level 1','10629 trace name context forever, level 32','14532 trace name context forever, level 1','38068 trace name context forever, le
    vel 100','38085 trace name context forever, level 1','38087 trace name context forever, level 1','44951 trace name context forever, level 1024','10191 trace name context forever
    , level 1','10753 trace name context forever, level 2','10191 trace name context forever, level 1','10091 trace name context forever, level 1'
    and they do not recommned any SAP note. These are the only things recommended in EWA:
    Parameter EVENT
    To provide special functionality or control system behavior, Oracle has a number of events. These can be activated in the configuration file and/or dynamically in the server manager or sqlplus.
    In general, these events and parameters should be activated on request only. When they are no longer needed, they should be removed. However, it might be necessary to activate some events during normal database operation.
    The following table displays the values for the parameter "event" as
    found in your system:
    Parameter Current Value
    event 10027 trace name context forever, level 1
      10028 trace name context forever, level 1
      10142 trace name context forever, level 1
      10183 trace name context forever, level 1
      10411 trace name context forever, level 1
      10629 trace name context forever, level 32
      14532 trace name context forever, level 1
      38068 trace name context forever, level 100
      38085 trace name context forever, level 1
      38087 trace name context forever, level 1
      44951 trace name context forever, level 1024
      10191 trace name context forever, level 1
      10753 trace name context forever, level 2
      10191 trace name context forever, level 1
      10091 trace name context forever, level 1
    The following table lists events we found to be activated in your system, but which should only be activated in special circumstances. Please check whether there are special reasons to set these events. If they are no longer needed, they should be removed.
    Event
    10091
    So I am not sure, how to check if I should remove this 10091 or leave it there. What is that special case that this parameter needs to be present ?
    Any idea ?
    thanks in advance,

  • Create pfile from spfile when oracle in idle mode

    Create pfile from spfile when oracle in idle mode
    from where it creates pfile?? note:-oracle is in idle stage..

    Since you are asking for creating PFILE so I think below text will answer your question :
    If you do not specify spfile_name, then the database uses the spfile that is currently associated with the instance, usually the one that was used a startup. If no spfile is associated with the instance, then the database looks for the platform-specific default server parameter file name. If that file does not exist, then the database returns an error.http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e26088/statements_6008.htm#i2072768

  • Find out the name of parameter file while oracle is running

    can any one please tell me how can i find the name of oracle parameter file while oracle is running, i mean is there any parameter that specifies this thing, or is there any data dictionary view
    second thing i want to change the default database i mean istead of starting the default database at startup the oracle should start the database that i specify,
    i would be greatfull if any one could answer my questions

    Ok, so you're running with SPFILE in default location. The file you speak about is used during the database create phase.
    Just having a look at the file:
    c:\oracle\admin\orcl\pfile\init.ora.1142006183316I can say that:
    . The SID is ORCL
    . You used DBCA to create the database
    . DBCA started creating the database: Saturday 11 of February 2006 at 18:33
    This file is used by the DBCA because when you create a database, you must have a parameter file in order to start the instance. This file is easily created as a text file (PFILE) first, then the instance is started. Once the database creation is over, the SPFILE is created from this PFILE. If you check the database create logs (in the %ORACLE_BASE%\admin\ORCL\* directory) you'll see a "CREATE SPFILE FROM PFILE" is ran after the database creation, or before, it depends, and the instance restarted in order for it to use the newly created SPFILE. After that, this file is useless.

    Yoann.

  • JBO-33001: Configuration file /oracle/apps/crmCommon/activities/activityManagementService/applicationModule/common/bc4j.xcfg is not found in the classpath.

    I am trying to consume a base model which is available in the Customer.jws (AppCmmnCompActivitiesPublicModelActivityManagement) to my Mobile UI project available in Sales.jws (SalesMobilePublicUi). We have added proper Databindings.cpx entry for accessing the applicationModule present in the model.
    On deploying the sales mobile app, I get the following ConfigException:
    JBO-33001: Configuration file /oracle/apps/crmCommon/activities/activityManagementService/applicationModule/common/bc4j.xcfg is not found in the classpath.
    The bc4j.xcfg mentioned in the above path actually contains the entry. On checking about this issue, I found out that the prominent solution would be model project should be added as Dependencies to the UI project. But the UI is in different workspace (Sales.jws) and so the list of dependencies shown are those of this workspace only, whereas the model is present in Customer.jws and it does not come under the dependencies list.
    How can this issue be resolved? Please let me know any pointers on solving this issue.

    Build an adfLibrary from the model in the Customers.jws and add this adfLibrary to the other ui project. This will get you the dependency.
