Hi all,
i am getting the following problem to use PGP encryption:
Error Detail: org.bouncycastle.openpgp.PGPException: Exception creating cipher
Caused by: java.security.InvalidKeyException: Illegal key size

in spite of we have jce unlimited policy installed 1.4.2 in the Pi server.
Pls. give some recommendations to fix this problem.
thanks in advance.

Guys,
In my local machine the PGP program runs fine, however in the server It is not working.
I wonder if this differences could be the reason of the fail:
                                                                 Local Machine                                            Server
Operative System                                  Windows XP   x32                                     Windows Server 2003  x64
In both I installed the unlimited JCE.
I hope You can help me on that.
Thanks in advance

  • After 10.6 security update 2013-002 PGP encrypted disk won't boot

I ran the latest security update on my very old 17" intel MacBook Pro (It won't boot, so I can't give you the model number). It has PGP encryption installed on it, but I only have my passphrase, not the keys since it's a managed system.  Half way through the install, it failed with a cryptic error, and the machine won't boot now. It gets half way through booting, and the screen goes black.
I have booted into single user mode, and ran fsck and applejack, only to get an error about a sibling error, and the hard disk is full.
Is this a PGP issue? Does the latest security update conflict with PGP?
I found this resolution to a similar sounding problem in 2010, but am unsure if this is happening now. Google searching hasn't yeilded anything so far.

    Thanks for any help.

About PGP I can't tell; the hint you linked (and the suggested fix) might still be valid:
PGP recommends folks to decrypt their drives first, update to 10.6.5 and then re-encrypt.
this sounds as a general recommendation.
However fsck reported a sibling error (an invalid link sibling error I presume) and that's not fine. Afaik, Disk Utility can't fix it; DiskWarrior hopefully will. I quote from Alsoft Support Database:
    Question
Is DiskWarrior capable of repairing an "Invalid Sibling Link" error?
    Answer
This is an error you definitely don't want. It indicates that parts of your directory, and therefore some of your files and folders, are inaccessible.
Mac OS Standard (HFS) and Mac OS Extended (HFS Plus) disk directories have a very complex structure. Each file or folder (item) on a disk has an entry in the disk's directory. These entries are in order of enclosing folder and then item name. This is similar to a yellow pages directory being ordered by type of business and then business name. Just like a yellow pages directory, the disk directory has pages except that its pages are called nodes. Unlike the yellow pages, nodes are dynamic and change as you add and delete items. It's sort of like a realtime yellow pages.
Imagine that the pages of the yellow pages are not in order and at the bottom of each page it says "Continued on page n," where n is the page that contains the next set of listings for the particular type of business that you're looking up. Well nodes are not arranged in order and each node has a reference, or link, to the next node that contains the next set of ordered items. This link is what is referred to as the sibling link.
A sibling link error is a bad link to another node. Either the link refers to the wrong node or it refers to an invalid node. As I said, a sibling link error makes some of your items inaccessible and can even prevent a disk from mounting. Sibling errors are notoriously difficult for some of the patching type of disk repair utilities to repair. Sometimes the repairs fail and the directory is damaged further. If a disk with a sibling link error is still mountable, I would advise backing up the accessible files and folders on the disk before attempting to repair it with that type of disk repair utility.
I'm not really sure DiskWarrior will work on a PGP encrypted disk. According to a few old Google matches, it should. See e.g.:
    http://kb.mit.edu/confluence/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=4263350
but according to more recent ones, it won't:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2719460?start=0&tstart=0
It seems you're out of luck even with Safe Boot (from PGP Whole Disk Encryption Command Line User's Guide):
The Mac OS X Safe Boot feature does not work on a boot disk that has been whole disk encrypted; if you hold down the Shift key to enter Safe Boot, the system will fail to boot after authenticating at the PGP BootGuard screen.
So, while you're waiting for some more knowledgeable advice, you might backup your data to an external drive while booted in single user mode. There are many how-tos out there; I think this one is pretty clear:

    Hope this helps.

  • Issues restoring/connecting Shuffle with PGP installed

It seems like Apple registered my iPod Shuffle that I bought today back in December (huh?), so I can't use the chat to contact the Apple staff regarding this issue (and no, I don't have a fax, don't even have a fixed phone line). Still, this might be relevant for others.
Just home with a shiny new Shuffle, connecting it, updating it and messing around with it. Tried the Restore function, and that was obviously something I shouldn't have done...
I've got a trial of PGP 9.5.x installed and it seems like it messed something up. After I use the Restore function in iTunes or the separate iPod Reset Utility to reset, format and restore the iPod, it isn't recognized by the OS/iTunes anymore.
After quite a few moments of research, I found out that after the iTunes Restore/iPod Reset Utility, the partition scheme for the Shuffle became pgpwdeMBR_Diskscheme, which obviously must have something to do with PGP's Whole Disk Encryption functionality. And as long as the partition scheme was wrong, iTunes thought the file system was corrupt and it seems there was nothing that could be done to correct it.
The only way I got around this, was to connect the iPod to a PC with Windows XP and run the iPod Reset Utility on there. So now I got a FAT formatted Shuffle, but at least it is recognized on the Mac.
I suppose I could have uninstalled PGP and hoped that whatever got messed up got restored. But, this is an extremely annoying bug and it seems like Apple need to do serious updating on the iPod Reset Utility which in my opinion should be a solid maintenance tool.

Well, it somehow looks different now. When mounted, its name is all capitals for example.

  • Failure to install Arch Linux via netinstall AIF; PGP key issues

    Hello,
I'm am attempting a fresh install Arch Linux on a clean machine: Dell 1420, 4GB RAM. I am using the archlinux-2012.02.09_04-00-01-netinstall-dual.iso installer.
Installation progresses nicely through the package selection (I choose core, core-dev, xfce, and xorg packages only, to keep it simple for now). The packages download quickly, and then the installation fails during installation indicating that none of the PGP keys are known for any of the downloaded files. The process essentially aborts and I press 'Continue' returning me to the main menu. I have repeated this process several times.
What needs to be done to install Arch Linux?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Thanks, I have been through the Beginners Guide. I just want to get Arch Linux to "start" with a very basic GUI. during one of my installation iterations I did install only 'core' files, but the same failure occurred. so I'm at a loss as to how to get even a basic installation to take hold. Thoughts on the pgp key issues?
    Thanks.
Update: I've switched to using the default net installer (2011.08.19) and the installation succeeded!

  • [SOLVED] Fresh Install Error - Issue with PGP Key 4096R/753E0F1F

    Hello Guys,
This is my first topic. I have done all the research in this forum and in Google for the issue, with no luck in finding a solution. I have done several Arch linux installs before on Virtual Machines and PC's all of them working properly, except for this one that I can not get to pass the install phase.
    Description of Hardware:
HP Laptop Pavilion Entertainment PC dv2-1030us
    Athlon AMD Processor
    4 GB RAM
    300GB HD
    ATI Video Card
Broadcom wireless Card (Default drivers Not Working)
    Wired Network Card (Working)
I'm trying to install Arch from USB drive created from another arch machine via:
    sudo dd if=/name_of_file.iso of=/dev/sdX
    Using Arch Version:
    Current Release: 2014.08.01
    Included Kernel: 3.15.7
    ISO Size: 559.0 MB
The above bootleable USB drive have been used to install Arch in another machine currently running it.
After creating the partitions on the drive, namely:
    BOOT
    SWAP
    ROOT
    HOME
And formatting them accordingly to the install guide, and having the system ready to download all the base and base-devel packages via:
    pacstrap -i /mnt base base-devel
Right after it finishes downloading I get the following error:
    downloading required keys in keyring...

I first ignored the error and then tried to proceed with the installation process and executed the following sequences of commands:
    genfstab -U -p /mnt >> /mnt/etc/fstab
and then tried to chroot with:
    arch-chroot /mnt
Then i got the following error:

chroot: failed to run command "/bin/sh": No such file or directory

I've had the same issue with an (outdated) Arch Linux iso. As far as I am aware, it is caused by pacman's keys becoming out of date.
I've managed to get around this before, but the exact method eludes me.
You could try just updating the archlinux-keyring package, by refreshing pacman (pacman -Sy), then reinstalling only that package (try pacman -S archlinux-keyring).
Then you should be able to continue as normal.
Note that this only affects the CD filesystem in RAM - it will not persists across reboots using the CD.
The reason why this might work is that the package archlinux-keyring might not be signed by the key you were having issues with. If it still fails, you could temporarily set the SigLevel for the core repo to 'Never', however this does disable package signing, at least until you reset the SigLevel.
Unfortunately, I could not replicate the problem in a Qemu VM, so I'm not sure how good my method is. Hopefully, it fixes the problem.
Here are some links that might help shed some light:

    Hi Siva,
I don't think still there is any support for PGP in Oracle SOA. You may use java for PGP encryption/decryption and transfer externally encoded messages over SFTP.

    Hi,
First here is my network information.
I'm in university, where there is a direct connection to the internet. But the firewall blocks all outgoing ports except 80 and 443. In addition they seem to be preventing CONNECT calls over HTTP to tunnel other protocols.

  • PGP Encryption using Module in PI 7.1

    Hi Experts,
We have devoloped a module for PGP Decryption and deployed as a module in  our PI 7.1 server .
We have placed the public and private key certificates(Privatekey.txt,PubKey.txt) and jar files (bcpg-jdk15-1.44.jar,bcprov-ext-jdk14-146.jar,bcprov-jdk14-146.jar ) in the below path of our PI FTP server .
    "/usr/sap/<SID>/DVEBMGS03/exe/sapjvm_5/jre/lib/ext"
In Module while reading the private key file it is failing to read and going to else block and throwing "Key is null"
secretkeylocation = moduleContext.getContextData("SecretKeyLocation"); //Reading the path dynamically from channel
    try {
                iinKey = getClass().getResourceAsStream(secretkeylocation);
                      if(inKey == null)
                         throw new ModuleException("$$$$ key is null $$$$$");
NOTE:We have tried placing the pblic and private key certificates in different folder .But faced same issue again.
Above scenario we have devoloped using java mapping .Here it worked successfully
    String privateKeyPath = "/com/sap/pgp/secring.skr";   //placed certificates here
    inKey = getClass().getResourceAsStream(privateKeyPath); //Reading the file
    Could you plz sugest ?

This was fixed by using bufferreader and converting it to inputstream

Yes, it does have some limitations. Hopefully, as you say, the two-way sync will fix that. I'm sure BlackBerry just wanted to get a solution out there for people to at least get their data from Outlook to the device in order to even use it. I'm sure they're working on it just as fast they can.

    Hi everyone,
    Thanks for reply Sarah
I have downloaded and added the JCE unlimited strengthh juristiction policay files are updated as directed in above blogs.
Now I am able to encrypt the File using plane File Adapter (NFS). But still it is throwing exception for SFTP adapter. Below is the error detail:

  • [RESOLVED] pacman annoyance (libgcrypt issue)

    Heya guys,
I'm doing countless searches online but can't seem to come up with any good results or leads, so must vent my frustration as a plea for help.
I've just installed the arch environment on a machine using the nice guide here ( https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … ase_system ) which gives me a base install - but libgcrypt didn't seem to be installed alongside cryptsetup for whatever reason.
So, I go hunting for any solutions and run into this stream: http://archlinux.2023198.n4.nabble.com/ … 94100.html
(in summary, the stream indicates some packages got moved between [base] and [core] (or something) and so some version funnies went on.
I skimmed most of it (just re-read it and it does say upgrade both gnupg and libgcrypt together) and upgraded libgcrypt by itself:
(I come from Fedora where upgrading one package usually means any version dependencies get taken into account)
    pacman -S libgcrypt
Great, cryptsetup now worked for me... but then I come to install another package aaaaaand:
error: GPGME error: Invalid crypto engine
    error: gnupg: missing required signature
:: File /var/cache/pacman/pkg/gnupg-2.0.22-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz is corrupted (invalid or corrupted package (PGP signature)).
Do you want to delete it? [Y/n] n
error: failed to commit transaction (invalid or corrupted package (PGP signature))
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.
SO, looking through various sources I can't find any "ignore gpg signature errors" .
    - Any suggestions guys?

    *EDIT* :
No attack on archlinux intended, I am unaware of how new pacman is, how careful the repositories are at updates etc.
I am enjoying arch so far, especially the fact that installing into a chroot environment is just a breeze (I'm doing so on my NAS, where I've also done TinyCoreLinux - I'm assuming it's based off Arch).
And I'm also assuming that Arch uses something similar to the BSD's systems (I don't have any experience myself but I've heard it is core and then extra stuff).
Whenever I tried to upgrade *any* package I got the GPGME error shown above.
I did try and re-initialize the trusted key DB but got back:
    pacman-key --init
gpg: error while loading shared libraries: libgcrypt.so.11: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
gpg: error while loading shared libraries: libgcrypt.so.11: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    ==> Updating trust database...
gpg: error while loading shared libraries: libgcrypt.so.11: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
==> ERROR: Trust database could not be updated.
So it was an issue with gnupg having a dependency on an older libgcrypt library whilst the cryptsetup binary required a newer one.

I was able to turn off gpg checking (a shame it isn't a command line option as I only needed to update gnupg).
I've now managed to pacman -S gnupg and now everything is right with the world!

  • Using PGP on a BlackBerry 9790, how-to?

I want to install the PGP Package on my 9790 to encrypt and decrypt emails from my emailbox to another using the public and private keys; is this possible?
Does this only work with the applications provided by PGP Corporation, or with the free GPGTools too?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Firefox crashes getting more frequent - maybe associated with Symantec PGP?

In January Firefox crashed 6 times. On 1/22 I did a full reinstall of Firefox. Did not crash again until 2/25 but then crashed 3 times in 4 days. In March has crashed 5 times in first 12 days. Don't know if crash report is simply blocked from occurring while my computer is locked, but most of the crash reports seem to be at whatever time I arrive in the morning and do the first unlock of the day. But not every day! This computer has full drive encryption with Symantec PGP. Maybe when locked, Firefox has problems? But why not every time it is locked? In the evenings I do the Windows locking but do not log off. The open pages vary.
    Latest crash report is bp-7dee8df1-e410-4fb7-95ed-3bf252140312
I have disabled all of my add-ins.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]

    * [http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/ ESET Online Scanner]
[http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE Microsoft Security Essentials] is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

  • [SOLVED] Issues upgrading gvfs

    Hi folks,
trying to update, but I keep getting this:

I have already tried to change server and refreshed the keys, but no dice.
By the way, IANACS but it looks like the package itself might have some issues. -3.23 MiB reduction in one go looks unlikely.
    Anybody else experiencing this? Solutions?
    Thank you.

Did you remove the cached gvfs package after switching mirrors?

  • Encrypt text file using PGP

    Hi all,
I have a requirement to encrypt a file before sending as email attachment to another party. We have installed PGP to do the encryption. I am able to generate the text file and store in UNIX server. I created a directory in AL11 with the text file. I also created a command in SM69. When i execute the command in sm69, it is throwing me the following message:
    3083:could not create output file
    3090:operation failed, file not found
External program terminated with exit code 162
    Any idea why?

    Hello Aida ,
Could you please share ? how did you solve this issue ?
    Thanks & Regards
