Phenomenal AppleCare Mail-in Repair Support
Tuesday morning I went to start up my MacBook Air and all I got was a flashing question mark. I ran my Disk Utility and it said the drive could not be repaired. I tried using DiskWarrior, but that wouldn't even recognize the drive. The hard drive was hosed. I called Apple and they said they would send me a box to send it in for service.
The next (Wednesday) morning FedEx was at my door at 8:50AM with the box. I loaded the computer up, called FedEx and they picked the unit up about 4:00PM Wednesday afternoon.
Thursday morning I get an email at 7:30AM telling me they received the computer and were working on it. About 4:00PM I get another email stating that the computer was repaired and was being shipped back.
Friday morning at 8:30AM FedEx was at my door with the computer. 3-day turnaround service. Is that great, or what?

I just had to share another exceptional Apple support experience. Recently, my 2008 MacBook Pro (out of warranty) started having trackpad issues. I found out the problem was the battery was swelling in the case putting pressure agains it. I called Apple support and the first guy I talked to said they would replace it under warranty because it was considered a safety issue. He handed me off to another person that wanted to ask me a bunch of questions, like if I got burned, if there was a fire, if there was any smoke, etc. After answering no to all of them, he puts me on hold and comes back to tell me that the battery would not be cover under warranty and that I would have to pay around $125.00 for it! I told him I wasn't going to pay it and asked to be transferred to Apple Customer Relations. A guy from ACR comes on the line and I explained the situation to him. He apologized for the second guy refusing to OK a new battery and said he was going to send one out right away--free of charge. This guy was so nice, he even gave me his direct phone number and told me to call him if I ever have a problem again. I thought that was real personalized service.
Anyway, the moral of the story is, if you ever have a Apple issue you are not happy about, call Apple Customer Relations. In all my experiences with them, they genuinely care about their customers and will do what it takes to make them happy.

Just received my 3th iPod from mail-in repair, and afraid to use it.
I bought my iPod in june 2005. I remember having trouble putting music on it for the first time. After i had put some songs on it RealPlayer showed that there was memory taken, but didnt show any songs on it. I dont remember how, but i solved it and my iPod worked.
Till september. I started it up with the apple symbol one time. And i got the language selection screen first, and then i saw that all my music was GONE! I took it back to the shop where i bought it (no apple store, just a random one). They tried to reset it, but they told me that it got stuck while trying. So they mailed in repaired it for me. And i got a new one that worked properly!
But in november, it started to get stuck while playing songs, i reset my iPod with the menu and middle button every time it happened. It happened more and more, and in december i got the sad iPod symbol for th first time. But sometimes it worked again, so i listened to it for maybe 2 more weeks. In those 2 weeks i got the sad iPod symbol loads of times. And for the second time, all my music got deleted! (I looked this up on the apple support site, and that isn't supposed to happen all of a sudden!!!! So why does it happen to me TWO times????)
After those two weeks I went to the support site and did everything there. reset it, format it, install the new software etc. No use.
most of the times my computer got stuck when i attached my iPod to it.
So i mailed in repaired that one too.
Now I have a new one. But i dont want it to go sad and messed up again! What is wrong with me! why do all MY iPods break?
I would very much like to know what I do wrong before i'm going to use my new iPod to make sure this one lasts!
Can anyone help me? Is it my computer? Is it because i use RealPlayer? Or do i just attracted iPods with production failyers?
Thanks, Marijn
Windows XPThat is horrible.. I hope you didn't lose any files..

For some stupid reason, (now I am regretting it), I decided to submit a repair request for my ipod nano that is out of warranty to get the broken screen repaired. I went through their self service pages and entered the information including credit card info to pay for the service. I selected the "Apple sends you a box and you use it to return the product to Apple" option. When I received my confirmation email the instructions on it do not mention anything like "when you receive your box...", the way it reads to me is that I need to find a box to ship it in and then take it somewhere to be shipped. I pasted the exact verbiage from the email below. Has anyone had experience with this mail in repair service? It has been 2 days, the option when I signed up says in "1 to 2 business days after you finalize this service request you will receive a box with instructions...", does anyone know if and when to expect it? The confirmation email also mentions if they don't receive it within 10 business days, the repair will be canceled, does this mean I won't be charged or will Apple (since their terms say they don't give refunds) keep the money? Of course the status page on the support site is totally worthless.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
"You'll need to send us your original product before we can send you a replacement. Be sure to send only the product itself. If you include extra items in the box, we won't be able to return them to you. Also, send it to us within 10 business days. Otherwise, this repair request will be canceled.
We recommend that you pack your product in its original packaging or a suitable alternative. Ship the package using a courier service that provides a tracking number and proof of delivery. You may want to insure the value of the product when arranging shipment, as this will not be covered by Apple. Please address the package as follows: "You need to contact Apple directory to have them start the process over.

Apple Mail doesn't support IMAP IDLE
I had started using Entourage for a while just for testing since I had reacently started using a new IMAP server and I wanted to see how all the different email software behaves differently so that I can know what everyone will expect to see. Probably my favorite feature of the IMAP4rev1 protocol is IDLE. This feature gives the client the ability to stay connected to server so that the second an email comes in, it is "pushed" to the client.
This is very different from the way that with POP3 and HTTPmail that you need to poll the server. Here's the real bummer for me though, my absolute favorite email client, Apple Mail, DOESN'T SUPPORT 'IMAP IDLE'!!!!!!!
I beg you Apple to please realease a new version of Apple Mail that supports IDLE properly so that the client can stay connected to the IMAP server.
Other not as important feature requests/bugs that I have:
* CRAM-MD5 authentication on SMTP doesn't work for me in Apple Mail even though my server supports it and it works fine in other email clients
* A three pane vertical view similar to Entourage/Outlook... It would just be a nice option
* Ability to hide individual IMAP folders aka Unsubscribe
* AND ONCE AGAIN PLEASE SUPPORT IDLE!!!
Now if I have this all wrong and there is some way to turn IDLE on that is a hidden setting, someone please tell me. I'd be interested in hearing what someone from Apple has to say about this missing feature. Thank you!
1.5GHz 15" PowerBook Aluminum Mac OS X (10.4.3) 2GB RAM, 60GB 7200 RPM HD, SuperDrive, iSightNo, all this does is download all of my emails and cache all of them locally (regardless of what folder they are in). I wouldn't want this to happen because I definitely have over 100MB stored on my email server.
IDLE is something entirely different... I'm still hoping to get a reply from Apple.
If anybody else is annoyed with this please file a feature/bug request/submit form at www.apple.com/macosx/feedback/ so that we can try to get this resolved soon via some sort of update. OS X 10.5 is still a ways away so I'd definitely like to see an update to 2.05 before we get to 3.0. -

Do not want to receive e-mails from Apple Support Communities
Please help meI have this bookmarked as well from another post that gives detailed instructions on how to stop the emails. From here down is a copy and paste from that discussion ....
Actually there are three places to look
Anyway first click on your name to get to your homepage/profile. At the top there are three tabs one of which is Notifications, that's number one,. Next look at the right side of the page at the boxActions in there click Manage Email Notifications. Finally click Edit Preferences in the action box and click on Email Notification Preferences
I think that covers it all. -
Does OS X Mail in Leopard support message receipts?
I haven't upgraded to Leopard yet...there's no compelling reason to do so for my purposes, but I can think of one reason that would make it worthwhile -- namely, if OS Mail in Leopard supports message receipts. Every message I send (in SeaMonkey's mail app) requests a "message displayed" receipt. Alas, recipients who use OS X Mail never even see the receipt request.
For all its other virtues, the lack of receipt support will forever doom OS X Mail to being a mere plaything, not for serious mail users. I mean, OF COURSE you would want to know whether your message was received...DUH! It's incomprehensible to me that Apple has excluded that feature...well, through Tiger, at least.
So, can anyone tell me whether OS X Mail in Leopard supports mail receipts? I can't find anything on the OS X Mail webpage that mentions it one way or another.
Thanks!Matthew:
Of course you're correct, but floba's observation is a bullseye; I'm well aware of Thunderbird, as a SeaMonkey user (and before that, the Mozilla Suite, and before that Netscape Communicator...back to v4.75 in System 8 and 9).
No question — T'bird is a great mail application. I like SeaMonkey's mail app because of its tight integration with the Navigator browser as part of the same suite of web apps, but that's a matter of personal preference. I certainly can't fault Thunderbird's functionality. Except for browser integration (and of course the skin and layout), it has virtually all the same features that I like about SeaMonkey's mail and newgroups app.
As you might know, Mozilla Foundation (MoFo) originally promoted T'bird as a mail app that "plays nice with the browser"...by which they meant Firefox. I always thought that was a bit odd, because for integration with the browser, there has never been anything better than the evolving Communicator/Mozilla/SeaMonkey suite, in my opinion.
But it's no secret why they took that route. They wanted to break up the Mozilla Suite and repackage the browser and mail apps as standalone programs that could go head to head with Internet Explorer and Outlook Express. Firefox and T'bird are the result. They've been a huge success for MoFo, and they're fine apps in their own right. Ditto for Safari and Mail in OS X. I use Safari often. I'd use Mail more if it supported receipts.
I still give SeaMonkey the edge for my purposes, but my needs are different than most folks. I rely heavily on SeaMonkey's Composer app, which is an invaluable research tool for creating and saving annotated web pages. It's a decent site builder too...and it has been available as the excellent standalone Nvu composer for some years now.

Does anyone could explain me about SSL/TLS?
Here is the situation:
E72 allows in securîty settings to select SSL/TLS. I selected it for both accessing and sending mails and I can logon to my POP and send with SMTP. So apparently no problem.
But I asked my internet provider if they support SSL/TLS and they told me no they does not support it....so my question is does really SSL/TLS works in my situation and my provider has no clue on security settings or SSL/TLS does not work but it has no incidence on using my mails as I said I can receive mails and send mails even if those security settings are selected...?
Thanks if anyone could explain me this.
Some e-mail providers like Gmail use SSL/TLS.
