Phone in recovery mode?

I just upgraded from the 1st gen to a 3gs 16g I came home to sync new to old, when i plugged in the old, i needed to update so i did it updated then said it was transfering, then when it got done instead of saying sync complete, it said phone in recovery mode, now on my screen i have a picture of a plug and the itunes symbol and the phone does NOTHING when i press the button..any ideas

Which phone is in recovery mode - the "old" 1st gen iPhone or the 3GS? What happens when you plug it back into iTunes? If iTunes sees it in recovery mode, follow the prompts to restore the phone. If not:
1. Be sure you have the latest iTunes, 9.1.1
2. Start iTunes
3. Plug phone into a USB port on the computer, not an external hub or keyboard port.
4. Press both home and sleep/wake buttons until the Apple logo appears, then continue pressing the home button alone until iTunes sees the phone in recovery mode.
5. Follow the prompts to restore.

  • Interrupted update put phone in recovery mode.

An interrupted update to iOS 7.1.1 put phone in recovery mode.  The phone told me to connect to iTunes and when I did it only gave me the option of restoring the phone.  The problem is though, that the phone hadn't been backed up in awhile and not at all to the computer I had to connect it to.  So is there a way I can reboot without restoring the iPhone?

You can restore the iPhone from an iCloud backup or from an iTunes backup once you're back at your computer.
I know that doesn't help too much, but it is an option.

  • TS2529 iOS update throws phone into recovery mode - HELP

The current iOS update seems to have thrown the phone into recovery mode now requiring restoration through iTunes. Of course I don't have photo stream on and fear losing all my photos. Any way around this?

Reset, hold both the home and power buttons until the iPhone begins to restart. If this works great. If not you may have to Restore the iPhone to get it working again. If you decide to do this you may even have to use DFU Mode to Restore. Here are the steps for DFU. Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB cable. Hold both Home and Power button, after exactly 10 seconds release the Power Button, keep holding the Home button until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode, usually about 20 seconds time. If the iPhone screen is black, blank this is DFU Mode. Click the Restore button of iTunes.

  • IOS 5 put my phone in recovery mode and won't turn back on or let me restore it, does anyone know how to fix this?

today i tried downloading ios 5 for my iphone 4. i updated all the software on my macbook pro. then when i was downloading ios 5 for my phone. it completely shut off. at first it was just showing me the screen to plug it into itunes. when i did, it would tell me to restore it because it was in recovery mode. however, it could not get approved by apple. i understand they have been bombarded today. however, now it is just showing a black screen with the loading circle on it. it wont let me turn it back on. and when i plug it into my computer it isnt recognizing it. i dont know what to do. is my phone dead forever? its been 4 hours..

If you have no other choice then put it in DFU mode. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3374810?

Just found this site http://themobileexperience.blogspot.com/2009/02/how-to-get-iphone-out-of-recover y-mode.html which claims to have a method of exiting recovery mode without a restore, if you want to try it.

  • Another case of phone in recovery mode after ios6 install

I see that many others are having the same problem.
What do I do to fix it?
I get the picture telling me to connect to itunes and when I do I'm told that the phone is in recovery mode and must be restored.
itunes is currently downloading the ios 6 software even though it has already been downloaded and installed on the phone.
Do I have to wait for the second download to complete and what steps do I take then?

Just click on the restore button and continue with the restore. It'll reuse the already downloaded ios6 and start from scratch.

  • Spa922 in "SOS phone in recovery mode"

    Hello,
how can I recover the phone?
What I have tried is the software in this discussion: https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/10616406/spa962-sos-recovery-mode but it didn't work. The software didn't find the phone.
What I need in the computer to make it work? Do I need dhcp server?
There is any version of the software with the latest firmware?
    Thanks for advanced,
    regards.

    Hello,
In order t try to correctly recover the phone the best scenario will be to connect the Cisco phone directly to your PC and then run the utility. Please also use the correct recovery tool - 66132-rec-spa942-6-1-3a.zip
If again the tool doesn't find your phone could be the case for trying to use FFFFFFFFFFFF instead of the Serial number of the phone.
Eventually if the above doesn't work, can you please share more details of what are you exactly doing during the recovery process?
    Best Regards,

  • Phone in recovery mode after update???

Update did not work, now i have discovered how to turn the phone back on as it wouldn't  it says i must restore it. Seriously?

    NOT HAPPY JAN!!!!
Both my daughter and I had the same problem on different computers. Hers is an iPhone 4 and mine, a 5. Both got caught in recovery mode. I did follow the above mention troubleshooting however to no avail. Took it into the Apple shop yesterday and they restored it back to the factory setting for 6.0.1. Lost all of my content on the phone.
The Genisus stated that is it a Windows problem.
Yes, I agree, that Apple has lowered their delivery and service. It is true, that Apple is the new Microsoft, that it is ok to have problems when upgrading and when it hangs, just reload.
AVOID THE UPGRADE AT ALL COSTS.
