Photo blog with JSP

I would like to create a photoblog in which you could click on a forward or back button and it changes the photo being displayed, is JSP the right choice for this? i just dont want to create a billion html pages for each picture...I have never really used JSP, I have written servlets and scripts, I think I could wing JSP(I have books in case I need help). I was thinking I could have the buttons increment variables, have every picture numbered, thus changing the <img> tags. I dont know if this is possible, JSP may not even work like that, just my initial thought before I read up on JSP. Could someone just give me a push in the right direction....

well I would like to use jsp just for the heck of it, I am going to have free time this christmas break so why not....
as for the solution to this problem what do you think about the increment idea? is there maybe a better way of going about this? like I said I dont know much about jsp, so is it possible to have variables for the image tags so that every time I click on the forward button it increments a variable by one....the <img> tag source is labeled by a variable therefore when the variable is incremented it will change the picture

  • Travel narrative photo blogs

I recently returned from a two week trip to France, replete with over a 1000 photos. I would like to use LR3, if possible, to create a narrative of the trip replete with selected photos. I don't see the website portion of LR3 as being up to the task of combining narrative with photos. Thus, I wonder if there are third party plugins which offer that capability? Ideally, they could integrate with maps as well, perhaps using a map to trace the route of the trip.
Is there some web location that collects third party website packages?
Thanks in advance for any help,
    John Kendrick

+1 for me, John.  I've been looking for a long time and haven't found anything so far.
I'm sure other forum users will say this isn't LR's job and I would  agree... to an extent.  Anyway, I'll answer at least a few of your auxiliary questions and offer some alternative points to ponder.
    Easy solution:  Switch to Aperture.
    Example:  http://www.apple.com/aperture/action/richardson/
Yes, you may need some add-ons to get things exactly the way you want, but Aperture has many more integrated features to make your travel blog (and other things, like photo books) a reality. (Aperture is Mac only, unfortunately.)  I don't want to ignite a religious war regarding LR vs. Ap, but this is one area where I think Aperture really shines.
Difficult solution:  Roll your own with Lightroom... and your blogging software of choice.
Some people recommend Pixelpost, but I wasn't impressed. Having gone through their photo blog building process myself, I can say that it's a TON of work without much to show for it.  Here are a few of the steps you'll need to take, at a minimum, to make a travel photo blog with LR:
Go to the "Lightroom Exchange" to search for plug-ins:  http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=productHome&exc=25 (You can also get here by hitting the 'Plug-in Exchange...' button at the bottom left of LR's Plug-in Manager window.)
Search for "travel blog," "travel," and the like... get 0 results.  Try not to get depressed.
Search for "geoencoding," download Jeffrey Friedl's Geoencoding plug-in.  Unfortunately, this tool is essentially "broken" by LR3 (see first user comment), but at least it gives you basic GPS encoding. [Of course, Aperture has this feature and even lets you import GPS info from your iPhone if you take a shot in the same location... neat!]
Back in LR, make sure all of your photos have captions, copyright info in EXIF/IPTC data, and (optionally) watermarks.  Export your photos, then upload them to your blog. Alternatively, if you *do* choose Pixelpost, you can use the LR plug-in to post your photos:  http://www.pixelpost.org/extend/addons/adobe-photoshop-lightroom-export-plugin/.
Edit your blog (outside of LR, of course).
HTH!... and please let me know if *you* find anything!

  • Best way to blog with multipel photos?

If I add a blog entry to my website about 100 times per year and I've put an image on each entry that can be clicked to link up to the days photos usually up to around 20 shots/blog entry. This creates a photo page each time. I'll end up with 100 photo pages if I continue to do this. Won't I run out of space before too long?
Should I be creating so many photo pages with only 10 or 20 shots on them?
Not sure how to set this thing up.
    J

why not just put the photos into the actual blog people are clicking on? You can drag and drop photos into the space where you type and change their size too. Of course you can't get the slideshow option like on a photo page but this would make things easier.
Also You could try changing the hyperlink settings and putting more than one day on a photo page.
But I would defiantly go for the blog choice. I do this all the time on my personal website (not the one below), and save the photo pages for more permanent pictures.
I hope this helps a little, Good luck.

  • When I photo blog (Blogger) useing FireFox, I don't get the link to open my images in a new page like I do using IE. Why?

I have a photo blog using Blogger and when I would submit a new post using IE, anyone was able to click on the image after I had posted it and it would open full screen in it's own page. I'm not sure what you call it but your arrow pointer would turn into a hand and you could click on it. Now, when I post using FireFox, I don't get that ability. If I use FireFox and view older post that were created with IE, the link is there but not the post from FF. It's only when I post using FF.

  • Photoshop CS4 does not recognize raw photos taken with newer cameras. Anyone else have this problem?

Photoshop CS4 will not recognize RAW2 photos taken with my new Panasonic Lumix FZ100 camera. This camera is listed in Adobe's 6.2 Camera Raw update for Photoshop CS5 but cannot be loaded in CS4. I paid a lot of money for CS4 and don't want to buy CS5 just because I bought a new camera, but it appears that Adobe no longer updates Camera Raw for CS4 or with newer cameras. When I called the Help Desk to find out if there was some kind of patch I could get to make CS4 compatible with my new camera a gentleman in New Delhi informed me that he couldn't even answer my question until I paid $40 since answering questions about CS4 was a "paid service." I hung up in a rage. Does anyone else have this problem and is there a solution?

This camera is listed in Adobe's 6.2 Camera Raw  update for Photoshop CS5 but cannot be loaded in CS4.
Adobe does indeed not update obsolete versions of Camera Raw for new camera types.
And guess what: It’s the camera producers who seem to like to change their raws – so how about spreading some of your indignation their way?
I paid a lot of  money for CS4 and don't want to buy CS5 just because I bought a new  camera
The upgrade is cheaper than buying the full version.
Anyway, you could try the free DNG Converter which should be able to handle everything the most recent version of Camera Raw can handle.

  • IWeb 08 blogging with slide shows

    Help!
I am using iWeb 08 in a fairly generic way. After seeing what her sisters have all been able to accomplish with blog sites such as blogger.com she wants to be able to include a slide show in her blogs. 2 questions:
    1. I have figured out how to export photos from iPhoto to quicktime. It creates a simple but usable slideshow in .mov format. I then open iWeb, click on the "entries" screen, create a new blow, then drag/insert the quicktime movie into the "placeholder" image to replace it in the blog. The problem is that when i go to my website, which opens up to the home page that shows all of the recent blogs with the most recent one first, the embedded quicktime file doesnt play. It only shows the first frame. When i click on it, it takes me a page with just that one blog on it, and then the mov file works, and i get my slideshow. What do i need to do make the .mov slideshow work in the home page. My wife wants the slideshow(quicktime movie) to work on the main page...).
    2. Second question. The quicktime slideshow is pretty generic. Sites like Picturetrail let you create pretty cool slideshows (flash files i believe) and then embed the html in your own blogsite ie blogger.com etc. I played around with embedding the html in iWeb and couldn't get it to work? A) can i embed a flash html in an iWeb blog, and B) will have the same problem of it not working on the homepage screen..
Sorry for the long post. Huge brownie points if i can get it to work, not to mention less grief for switching to a Mac
    Thanks for your help!

I have batch renamed all my assets, deleted all my slideshow thumb nails and replaced them so none of the images in my slide show have the same name as other assets anymore. I am sure this is what caused the problem.  I am about to reupload my website, so you won't be able to see the problem anymore (I sincerely hope).
The problem wasn't always reproducible. To be able to reproduce the bug you need 10 different slideshows (all with images called page_1.jpg, page_2.jpg etc with more than 50 pages in some of the galleries, and then you have to upload the slideshows, make changes to the website, upload again, then make more changes to the website, then go to all the galleries one at a time with the thumbnails visable then uncheck the show thumbnails box for all the different slideshows and upload again.

  • Best way to create, modify, XML with JSP ?  HELP

    Hi friends,
As i am new to XML,
I know there are two APIs used for XML processing, i want to know as a begineer level, which API
is easy and good to implement XML with JSP.
    1) SAX
    2) DOM
i want to make a log file in XML, so on web page it will be displayed on HTML form through XSL.
Since there is good tutorial on http://www.w3schools.com/dom
but i think its HTML dom
I want XML procession through JAVA CODE , what should i use ? and give some good tutorials on XML DOM
that is used with JAVA / JSP.
    HELP.
Edited by: Ghanshyam on Sep 19, 2007 3:24 PM

Well what i think is you gonna checkout with your requirements before implementing any of the popular XML parsing mechnisms.
If you are intrested in faster processing @sacrifising a gud amount of your Memory,DOM is the one which you are looking for.
If you are instrested in Managing your memory and but if you are ok with sacrifising speed SAX is the best solution.it works on what is called a push technology.
and if you think either way you might have to look towards a pull parser which is StAX (Streaming API for XML Parsing)
it'd be a gr8 idea if you can go through the below article which explians about each of the parsing mechanisms
    http://www.stylusstudio.com/xml/parser.html#*
coming back to helpful resources as far java is concern checkout the below link which might be of some help.
and the main thing is that all of these parser there is a defined specification you might find implementations of different vendors on this.
eg:Sun Provides one with JDK itself, same as IBM provides one, oracle does the same & so on...
your first task would be to focus on one such implementation which can cater your requirements.

  • Dynamic Photo Album using JSP

    Hi all,
I've been having a bit of trouble getting help with my question - I've tried a couple of usenet groups, however don't seem to be asking the right question. So, I'm hoping that some Java forums may be of more relevance. I'm sorry if this is the wrong place, and if there is a better place for me to ask my question if you could tell me where that is, I'ld be greatful.
I am looking at finding/ making an online dynamic photo album which
uses JSP. I've seen a lot of examples using PHP and a few online
albums using Javascript, however those albums using JavaScript are not
dynamic - the images are hard coded.
My scenario is this, we have about 6 different events with about 150
photos each. What I would like to happen is to be able to have a index
page which lists 10 photos each, and when you click on the photo to be
taken to a secondary page with a larger image. I would like to do this
without needing to create 150 dependant pages.
I understand that we will be looking at using server side technology.
As our pages already use JSP we don't want to add a second server side
language (PHP, Pearl etc...) to the equation.
So does anyone know of a script that may already do this? As I seem to be having no luck in finding one to suit my purpose, I would be happy to create my own script.
The problem is that I am not too familiar with JSP - though I used to do a fair bit of ASP using VB Script. What I would like is to be pointed into a page that will show me how to create an array with a list of filenames in a given directory (using a Site relative path). From there I should be right, but I can't seem to find any references to how this can be done using JSP (or even Javascript).
If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it.
    Regards
    Linda

You need to File class, it can produce a list of files in a directory.
    File photodir = new File("c:/path/to/photos");
    File[] photos = photodir.listFiles();
    for(int i = 0; i < photos.length; i++){
    File fp = photos;
    if(fp.isFile()){
// check to see if it is an image

  • Why blog with iweb

o.k. since i am new to this iweb thing and blogging with it i have a question. what is the benefit of blogging with iweb? i feel like there are so many downsides to it and i am paying for this service. I could be using another blog service for free or little money and have it not be this difficult. i just feel like i am so loimited and i feel like my blog does not even work on my friends computers who are PC users and run internet explorer.
some things i am having challenges with:
    * putting HTML in my blog. (i know it can be done but i'm told if you modify the blogs HTML code then i can cripple my commenting system)
    * changing colors of certain text in my template
*adding photos to my blog, they seem to need to be made small before i import them otherwise i will use up my space rather quickly.
    * (this is more of a question) can i install .png files into my blog or does it have to be a .jpg? i would like to insert files that do not have the white bkg and the only way i can do that is if it is a .png file.
those are just some of my issues for now. am i right? are these legitimate issues wth using the blog with iweb? or am i just crazy ...LOL! :P
if there are easy ways to fix these issues i would soooooo love some help as a new iweb user.
Also another thought was could some of these issues be fixed with leopard when it comes out? does anyone have any idea?
that's all i have for now. i will post again if i can thing of more questions.

    Hi Dena,
As Old Toad mentioned, iWeb can be used for many kinds of web sites. The link he gave is a great place to get a sense of what can be created. Blogging is one of the components of iWeb and blogs can be easily created. Yet, iWeb might not meet the needs of everyone.
If one does not want to spend time under the hood of iWeb, tweaking the html, trying to create things that iWeb does not automatically do which other blogging sites and software provides, then there are other services and software available that are designed specifically and exclusively for blogging. One does not need to get "under the hood" (though most of them allow it), If you like to tinker with the "innards" you will be able to tweak your iWeb blogging site or any other of the iWeb components to meet most of your needs.
iWeb is good at what it does, in fact it is very good at what it does. It just might not meet the needs of everyone. It is still a work in progress that provides the non html, css coder, or professionally trained designer, the chance to get on the web without the previously required knowledge of html, css etc.

  • Strange behaviour of iPad Photos app/My Photo Stream with iOS 8.1 and Yosemite

My requirement is surely simple and commonplace, yet is proving impossible to achieve thanks to Apple's weird design of the Photos app and the way My Photo Stream works.  I'm very technically savvy, but I'm quite prepared to admit I'm being stupid if someone can explain what I'm doing wrong!  I have an iPad Air running iOS 8.1 and a MacBook Pro Retina with OS X 10.10 (Yosemite).  I've enabled iCloud Drive on both.  iPhoto on the Mac is at v9.6.
I have a selection of 109 photos from a recent holiday in a folder on my MacBook, which I would like in a folder on my iPad as a nice way to show them to friends.   iTunes may work but seems so incredibly clunky and old-fashioned I hoped I could do it over the network or via the cloud.  I would use (and often have used) Dropbox, which is reliable and logical but rather tedious as you have to save each photo one by one.
So, with a little research and playing around, I found that I could get them to the iPad using iPhoto on the Mac, with My Photo Stream enabled.  However, it doesn't seem to work.  The photos were all created yesterday so had yesterday's date (I'd removed EXIF data that contained various earlier dates).
I've just done the following test:
I deleted all photos from the iPad (using the Photos app)
On the Mac, I deleted all photos from iPhoto
In iPhoto Preferences on the Mac, I turned on “My photo stream”, with the two sub-options also enabled
I imported the 109 photos into iPhoto
On the iPad, in My Photo Stream, I saw the photos gradually appear over the next few minutes
A  minute or two later, when no more seemed to coming, I found that 103 of the original 109 were in My Photo Stream.  So, strangely, 6 photos were missing
Even stranger, in the “Photos” tab, under “Yesterday” 37 of them could be seen.  If I understand this correctly (which I may not), that means 37 of them had been copied from the My Photo Stream to the iPad itself.  Am I right?  Why only 37?
On the iPad, I added a new Album called Summer 2014
I selected all 103 photos from My Photo Stream to add to the album
In the Summer 2014 album, I briefly see “103 Photos” at the bottom of the album, but this quickly changes to 66 as photos that briefly appeared now disappear, leaving only 66 left in the album
Checking in Photos/Collections/Yesterday, I find there are now 66 photos (rather than 37 as there were earlier) - the same ones that are showing in my Summer 2014 album.
If I attempt to manually add any of the missing photos to the album, nothing happens - the album refuses to allow any more than the 66 it has.
In iPhoto on the Mac, if I click on the SHARED/iCloud entry on the left, I see all 109 photos, which I think means iPhoto has correctly shared them all, so I suspect the problem is with the iPad.
Yesterday, when I was playing with this, the album allowed 68 photos.  I tried deleting one and adding one of the missing photos, but it wouldn't allow this either, so I don't think it's objecting to the number of photos so much as disliking particular ones.
I've got 7.7GB free space on the iPad so I don't think it's a space issue.
Can anyone help?  If it's a bug in iOS, iCloud or OS X, how can I report it, given that I'm out of my 3 months support for both my machines?
    Thank you!

Well done lumacj! This is a good workaround. Forgive me if I offer a simplified version here (this works if original photos are in Photo stream):
    1. In "My photo stream", tap on select at top of screen
    2. Tap on each photo you want to send via WhatsApp (circle with "√" shows for each photo)
    3. Tap on square box with arrow at bottom of screen (Share) - NOT "Add To"
    4. Tap on "Save image(s)"
    5. Check that selected photos now appear on "Camera Roll"
    6. From WhatsApp, send photos as you would have normally
