Photo book - can't edit pages

I recently upgraded to iphoto '11 so that I could make use of the photo book feature. I can create a photo book with no problems, but once it's created, I can't click on any photos within the photo book to change them around, I can't resize the photos or zoom in and out. I can't even add text to the pages. It's as though when I'm clicking the page it doesn't recognise that I'm clicking it. Does anybody know what has happened and how to resolve the issue?

Try this: launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos, create a book and check to see if the same problem persists. If it doesn't then your current library is the culprit.
In that case make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

I am using Apple Aperture on an iMac. I plan to order soon at least 4 photo books and more later. Can 4 printed books be shipped to 4 different addresses in one order, or do I have to make 4 separate orders? If Apple has filled an order to print a photo book can I make another order without having to upload the book again, since Apple has the book from the previous order?

All parts of an order have to be delivered to the same delivery address. And for additional copies you have to place a new order and upload the book again.

What upload speed do I need to upload the XL photo books with over 25 pages?

I have just recently gotten a new Internet provider and the max upload speed I can get is 1mbps but I am only getting .4 mbps at the most. When trying to upload an XL photo book with over 26 pages it keeps failing to transfer/upload and the error message says to check the internet connection. I'm wondering what upload speed I need to upload? I need to cancel this internet provider before my free month runs out if 1mbps is not going to be fast enough.

Well I have my first order coming in tomorrow (according to Fedex) and I have my fingers crossed.
So far I haven't been able to find any local printers that will print and bind the books at a reasonable cost - best I've found so far is $200 (or more) per book.
Hardly cost effective for my relatively meager budget.
I've explored Asuka a littoe more, and their quality does appear to be superior at first glance, but it seems I am not able to take advantage of submitting my aperture-generated book directly. According to their templates I have to put everything together manually in Photohop. Great for end-control, but one thing that made me pursue this was the ability to generate a book inside Aperture using versions direct from collection (any changes I made to an original image were automatically incorporated in my book. Had I done it all manually, teh time/effort I'd be putting into the book with be well over 5x greater!
I've also looked at shutterfly.com so far - and they seem promising, and am wiating for my colleagues order to go through before I get too excited.
Either way, I hope to have my first printing this week - I'll keep ya posted!

Apparently it's related to the Firefox plug in.
This isn't exactly a solution but more of a way to avoid opening PDFs with Firefox's plug in.
1. Highlight "Tools" from the Menu Bar in the top left of the screen (or click "Options" if using the Firefox Compact Menu)
2. Select to "Options
3. Select "Applications"
4. Look for "Adobe Acrobat Document" under Content Type and to the right under Action select "Use Adobe Reader (default)" instead of the using Adobe Acrobat in Firefox
5. Open a test PDF. It should open in it's own window now.
Again, not a complete solution but something that'll at least let you scroll with PDFs open.

Photo book panorama over 2 pages

How do I place a panorama photo over 2 pages of a photo book?

Select a page of your Book and show the Layout Options (View -> Layout).
select a Layout with one Photo per page. Set the Layout selector to "Spread" and deselect "Include text". This will give you a spread across two pages to drag your panorama to.

Why can't I change an iPhoto '11 (9.4.2) photo book layout without the page going blank?

When working on a photo book, I can initially drag and drop photos into the predetermined photobook layout designs without any problems. But when I want to change one of the pages from the iPhoto predetermined layout (e.g. from a 2 photo layout to a 4 photo layout) the page will go blank (by that I mean it will only have the background design) and will no longer allow me to add photos to the page, or choose a text only layout, or any layout other than a blank background design. I can delete the page which won't let me add photos anymore, and then add a new page which will, but the page layout is again a predetermined layout, which I want to change (e.g. a 2 photo layout, when I want a 4 photo layout).
As stated in the question, I'm running iPhoto '11 version 9.4.2, updated via the App Store in November 2012. I'm running the program on a 2011 iMac, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3, with OSX (10.8.2).
Please help.

Sound like you're trying to drag a photo to a folder which will automatically create a new album in that folder titled "Untitled". Make sure it's an album and not a folder you're trying to drag to.

Can not edit Pages files in Dropbox in my iPad

In Dropbox, in my iPad I can open files created in Pages in my laptop, but can't edit these using the iPad. Is this normal, and if so is there a workaround?

There is no direct way to send files from Pages to Dropbox. Though what you can do is email the document to yourself, open your mail app and locate said email to yourself, tap to download the attachment, then tap and hold, select "open in..." and choose Dropbox. (note: for this to work the Dropbox app must be installed on your iPad)

Help! Can't edit pages

Hi all, please help a newbie!!
I have recently started working for a charity which had a
Dreamweaver website. I have Contribute 3 for editing purposes, but
I can't change a lot of things and it doesn't make any sense.
Unfortunately the company that produced the website for us in the
first plave has gone bust, so I have no access to any help from
them. I have checked that I have full administration rights.
The main problems are:-
1. The pages are set in 2 column format, which I don't want,
but I am unable to change this
2. I can change font style/colour/alignment etc etc on the
home page of the site, but on all the others this is not possible
and I am only offered a choice of 6 pre-set styles which are awful
3. When I edit a page in Contribute it appears correctly, but
when I upload it to the site the text and images are misaligned (I
am making sure that I am using the correct file types for images).
I therefore have to keep editing the page and shifting things about
and then publishing it until I get everything to line up correctly
on the site.
4. One of the pages says that I am unable to edit because
another user is already editing. This user is a member of staff
that left over 2 years ago.
Sorry if some of this may seem basic, but I have done
tutorials and read books, and I can't see any reason why I
shouldn't be able to do all the above with full administration
rights. I've been thrown in at the deep end here!

Hi,
First of all Contribute is limited and in many cases you won't be able to change styles, colors, etc.
We have a similar case here and the two column format is on our stylesheet and cannot be changed.
Depending on how much control and how the styles were set up you may also see styles displayed differently. Usually the styles displayed are the only ones allowed to be used on that specific page. Doesn't mean something is missing. You can contact the Administrator to confirm whether the styles are correct for the pages you mentioned but I've never seen a mistake on setting the styles up.
As I mentioned above Contribute is limited. You are working without looking at the codes. If something is not being displayed correctly users cannot do anything but they should communicate the problem to the designer so he/she can fix in Dreaweaver.
This employee had probably left a draft without publishing. The fastest way is contacting the Contribute Administrator and ask to unlock the page. This can only be done within Dreamweaver. This will probably delete the "new content draft" but since you mentioned he left two years ago the content is definitely old.
Again remember that Contribute won't give 100% power and sometimes designers have to finish the users' work. Keep in mind rights to edit the web site are given according to the needs and is up to designer or the Web Team to change layout. I am just mentioning this because you told that you don't want the two column format but this was probably created and decided by the Web designer to fit the needs of the company. I myself administer many users and every day I have someone asking to change some styles. Unless affects functionality none of the styles are changed.
There's always a chance for you to get something changed if you can have some input to the web site since it's a charity you may have great chances to get what you need.

Address Book: Can't edit contact or add new

I have two computers and an iPhone that should be synching Address Book and iCal amongst themselves on Mobile Me. Recently, the iBook G4's Address Book has had some features disabled: the "edit" button is grayed out, the "+" button is grayed out, and trying to access the same functions under the file or edit menus, the same things are all grayed out. There doesn't seem to be anything in the settings or preferences that I can find that could be contributing to this problem. I need to be able to add and edit contacts from all 3 places, thus the point of having each of the devices and having Mobile Me. I don't know if this is an Address Book bug or a Mobile Me bug, as sometimes changes sync to iCal or Address Book, and sometimes they don't. Sometimes new changes are overwritten with old data, etc. Frustrating! It would seem an Address Book issue to not be able to add/edit though. Any ideas? And yes, both computers are on the same OS, 10.5.6.

Thanks to jamesk8752's link...I fixed it!!! :-) That link he posted brought me to the fix. I wrote it out easier to follow. I want to mention that when I upgraded to Mountain Lion the issue continued. This fix did the trick
1. Make a Backup Archive of your AddressBook.app (or Contacts.app)
2. Shut off iCloud Syncing (choose the option to delete the contacts).
3. Now with NO contacts in AddressBook (Contacts) quit the application.
4. Click on "go" and choose "go to folder" & navigate to [username]/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (even in Mountain Lion this is still accurate)
5. DELETE the addressbook-v22.abcddb file. Empty trash (just because I have OCD).
6. Reopen AddressBook/Contacts & create a new address card. You should now be able to edit it! Then delete it.
7. Go back into System Prefrences and turn on iCloud Contacts.
Your iCloud contacts will then appear and you'll be able to edit, delete, add, etc! Everything will be right as rain!

Making a photo book, can't remove borders

I'm trying to make a picture book, but every layout I try leaves a thin border or seam between the solid color of the layout and my inserted photo. Is there any way to remove the seam completely?

I am creating a photo book can't manage to put more than two photos on a single page. Is it possible to put three or even four photos onto one page?
Once the photos are on the page, can I enlarge them or make them smaller?

The Books and other keepsakes are limited by their themes. You can't edit a theme. Liz Castro has done an excellent job describing the theme, and what's possible with them here.

Why can I not upload an assembled photo book to Apple?

I have created a photo book which has 76 pages. I am able to assemble the book and preview and save it as a pdf, but when I try and buy the book through Apple, my computer hangs when it gets to the Upload stage. I have tried clearing the cache and using different proxy servers, all to no avail. This is extremely frustrating as I have a deadline to get the book printed by. I can get no help from Apple as the call centre is not open on Sundays in Asia, and when I call the US number, it drops my call after promising to connect me to an apple expert!
Any ideas anyone?

I want to add a photo book, select all the pages and tell the book to be 4 photos per page. And when I add new pages, I want those to have 4 photos.
When ever I add, it just selects a random page and then I have to manually change that page to have 4 photos. Is there an easier way to do this?

the added pages are what they are and you have to change them if hey are not what you want

i will start to cry why adobe are so slow in things that we photographers NEEEEED THE MOST of this software. i can live without all new features whitch are included in LR 3 but i cant live with ALBUM editing feature !!! i was writing 2 years ago in forume that we need this funnction but adobe is ignoring as - photographer L(
P.S. next generation feature will be nice if something like export sharing or multiple computers working together when on machine number 1 i am working with pictures, and on machine 2 by network pictures are extracting, and all sorce pictures are only on machine number 1. that lightroom or some other process by network is giving files and settings to machine 2 and machine 2 extract them using its processors and then save to machine nr 1 after job is done.
