Photo compression issue

When I upload photos to http://www.lakefishingtechniques.com/category/lake-fishing-tips/ They will either be a very large file size and delay the download of the page or they will come out grainy. I have tryed adjusting them in Photoshop, but I will either loose quality or they will not be compressed enough. It there an easier tool that I am missing?

Try using "Save for web & devices" under the "File" menu, you will have more options there.

  • GZIP Compression Issue in Weblogic 8.1

Has anyone experienced issues with gzip compression filtering in 8.1?
After about 2 months of dev. and testing with the filter, a bug has been found
in our portal, and I have traced it back to the filter that I downloaded from
    dev2dev code and utilities.
It is strange. The only time I see an issue is when a user clicks the "back button"
in the browser itself to go back to a previous page, AND then clicks a link (for
example) in a portlet that is tied to an action in a jpf for that portlet. The
error only happens for actions in a portlet that are local to that portlet (no
forwarding to other portlets or anything fancy)...just pure "local internal forwards."
If you do this, USING THE BACK BUTTON to get back to this page with the portlet,
when you click the action, you are actually taken to the page where you were when
    you clicked the back button.
I have re-created this is simple portals that have no content, so I know it is
    not something else I introduced.
Any ideas? Maybe it is the filter-mapping pattern I am using??? I am currently
mapping on *.portal, but this is the only situation that seems to break.

For those interested, I have some updates on this subject and someone out there sent me a mail asking if I ever found anything out.
Basically, when I encountered this issue the first time, I was working on a SP2 Portal. We were having numerous small bugs like this one with SP2 that centered around the back button or refresh button. BEA gave us a "super patch" back in July or so that when applied to our SP2 project, fixed our issue. I have sense moved onto SP3, and I did not see the compression issue (so I think SP3 must have the patches correctly setup...like I would assume it would).

  • CS5 HDR pro two photos alignment issue

Although I really enjoy the new tool, I'm having trouble aligning two photograph when I open then through the HDR pro tool.
Why is alignment of two photos so bad in HDR pro and perfect if you align the two same photos as two layers? I've even tried reopening the same files over and over and get different results each time in HDR pro.
In view of this, shouldn't there be a realign button in the slider adjustment screen, or options for alignment, such as Use the regular auto-align?
Since alignment works fine with layers, is it possible to have an option to use layers as a starting point for HDR pro instead of opening saved photos only? I realize this probably might not give perfect results as just fixing the automatic alignment issue...
But hey, I'm just trying to find a workflow around this if I didn't have my tripod with me at time of shoot... and I shot only two photos to composite.

    Hi Chris,
thanks for looking into this matter. Where do you want me to send the files (over 50 megs zipped).. they're CR2 files...

    Thanks

It is possible to autenticate to a proxy server, but the question is what tye of authentication your proxy is carrying out . "Basic" or "digest".If it is Basic then you can use Base64 authentication scheme. You have to first set the System property variable to find proxy server (like port and IP Address)

  • Stop Photo Compression on Sync?

I just recently purchased iPad 2. I downloaded a bunch of photos that I wanted to use as wallpaper and loaded them into aperture and synced them to the iPad. Upon doing so I noticed that the images seemed to have been re-compressed and they look just awful on the iPad. Especially when blown up to wallpaper size.
I noticed however that if I were to save an image from mail or the web to the camera roll the compression doesn't happen. That said I don't want to have to track down all these images again and save them manually one by one if it can be avoided.
Is this a bug? Can it be avoided? Do I need to do resizing on my own first (they were downloaded as iPad wallpaper so I'd assume theyre the right sizes)? Does iPhoto have the same issue or is it because I'm using aperture?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you sync photos they will be 'optimised' by iTunes, and you can't switch the process off.  I'm not entirely sure what the optimisation does apart from re-sizing photos if their dimensions are larger than (I think) 2304 by 1536 (and I think that applies to Aperture, iPhoto, or just folders)
Photos that get onto the iPad by other means are not optimised as they don't go through iTunes e.g. emails, websites, camera connection kit, or third-party iPad apps such as Simple Transfer which can copy photos to/from your computer via your wifi network.

  • Photo merge issues

    Hi all,
    I have Elements 3
I am using a pc with winxp
I'm using an Epson CX4600 scanner
I have scanned a poster in four parts because it was too big to fit on my scanner. So now I have four pieces, and I used photo merge to merge them back into one picture. The problem is I am getting dark and light variations on the images that cause one side of the image to be much darker than it originally was, and there are lines on the image that weren't there before. I tried color correcting each piece before putting them back together, I tried adjusting the overall image after flattening the layers but there are lines throughout. Any thoughts? Thanks!

    Hi Bob,
Now that you mention it, the Autostitch documentation is a bit obscure. It
would probably be worth posting my take on the options. This is a
combination of what I've figured out and what's in the Autostitch readme
file. Some of this will repeat what I said before.
    1. Output Size
After stitching and cropping, the image is scaled according to the size
specified. You may specify a fixed width in pixels, or a fixed height in
pixels, or do a relative sizing using a scaling factor in percent. The
aspect ratio of the stitched image is preserved.
I use the default small scaling factor for test runs or while playing with
the option settings and 100% scale for the final. I prefer to do the final
cropping and sizing in Photoshop. The specific height/width settings would
be most handy if you had no photo editing program.
    2. Blending Method
"None", will give you the original images with no blending.
"Linear", will do a simple weighted average of the image intensities in each
    image.
"Multi-band" is more complex but gives the best blending, it uses spatial
frequencies of the intensity. The basic idea is to merge high frequencies
over a short distance and low frequences over a large distance. The default
is 2 frequency bands. It's not clear how the program is handling the blend
if more than 2 bands is specified. Theresearch paper I read just indicated
it was problematic. The sigma value has to do with the statistical weighted
blending of the bands and I couldn't find out the significance of the value.
I assume it has to do with the distribution curve and how many standard
deviations from the mean to include in the weightings.
    3. Gain Compensation
Gain compensation modifies the brightness of the images so that they are
consistent with each other. Dark images become brighter and light images
become darker. This appears to be a normalized statistical adjustment using
the mean and standard distribution. Increasing sigma increases the effect.
If saturation occurs, you'll need to decrease the sigma or the mean. I
haven't had to play with this, I match exposures at the time of shooting and
haven't had any issues. I leave gain compensation off.
    4. Crop Settings
Autostitch computes adjustments in a spherical coordinate system. Think of
the camera as being at the center of a sphere. Cropping refers to limiting
the angles subtended by the stitched image in this system rather than the
physical dimensions of the output image. Auto is probably the best bet
unless you have a need to fit the image to a specified angular size in
degrees. The Theta values correspond to the left and right yaw angular
measures (longitude in the readme). The Phi values correspond to the bottom
and top pitch angles (latitude in the readme).
    5. Matching Options
The matching options are a bit obtuse.
SIFT is the part of the program that extracts features in the overlapping
areas for potential matches. Size has to do with the size of the region
that it searchs for features. Too small and it might not find enough to do a
good match. Too large and you increase the time it takes to process
considerably. You can specify size in pixels or in a percentage of the
image size. The pixel default is probably OK for most images.
RANSAC is the statistical method whereby the extracted features are compared
and the probability of a match is calculated. The parameters aren't
defined anywhere that I could find, so I don't know what they represent. If
I get time, I may research this further later. The readme says try
decreasing alpha and beta if no match is found or increase them if incorrect
    matches are assigned.
    6. Orientation Settings
Auto straighten has to do with the horizon line. If the panorama images
were not taken with the camera level, the geometric transformations that are
done to stitch together the images and superimpose the matched features can
result in the horizon being vavy (actually, it will be a sine wave). Auto
Straighten will attempt to recognize this and try to make the horizon line
straight again. It mostly works but I had to turn it off on one panorama
because it couldn't figure out where the horizon was and distorted the
    image.
The Manual orientation settings let you tweak the image orientation. Again,
think of the camera as being at the center of a sphere. Theta is yaw, Phi is
pitch, and Psi is roll. The values are in degrees.
    7. Image Rotation
This option applies to the completed stitched and scaled output image.
Basically, it allows you to rotate the image 90 degrees left or right or by
180 degrees. You can, of course, do this in Photoshop.
    8. Other Options
System memory specifies how much memory Autostitch can allocate. Too much
can "starve" the rest of the system and result in an "out of memory"
message. Too little slows down the program.
JPEG quality controls the JPEG compression with 100 being the maximum
    quality (least compression).
    Hope you find this useful.

  • Solved! All-in-Ones Misalignment on Costco or Heavy Photo Paper Issue

Hi, after much frustration, I finally came upon a solution to the issue of misalignment when printing heavy (Costco or HP Premium) photo papers. My printer is networked and connected via the router. This fix will probably work with other All-in-Ones as well. (I haven't tried this on business cards yet but will post back when I do). By the way, I'm using Windows 7. This is a very wordy post in order to get all the steps and make it easier to follow. Here goes.
Devices and Printers/Add Printer - this is so your original printer file does not get damaged. Also you might want to create a Restore Point.
Before adding your new printer, check under Devices and Printers/right-click current working printer/Printer Properties (not "Properties")/Ports/. Make note of the port that is current being used and working. You will use this same port on the newly added printer.
Device and Printers/Add Printer/Add Local printer/Under Use Existing Port hold down the arrow at right and select the working port you made note of in step 2.
Select HP on the left/HP OfficeJet 6500 709a on the far right (this is a generic printer driver specially made to fix printer issues like this)/Next/Do not share this printer/Next.
Do a test print on plain paper at the end of install.
    Now to print your photo:
Clean the printer rollers(I cleaned the ones on the back door where you clear a jam) with an electronic cleaning wipe (maybe alcohol and paper towel will work, too). This is because I think the printer has a hard time picking up the heavier glossy paper after some years of collecting soil and dust on the rollers so it slips - just my theory.
Select the photo/s you want to print. (I was trying to print a simple photo index/contact sheet. 8.5"x11" using Costco paper. The contact sheet in Explorer is located as you scroll down the options on the side). I was printing directly from Windows Explorer window in the folder where the image was located.)
    Print/Select the new printer you just added/paper size 8.5x11/HP Premium Photo Paper/Fit to Picture Frame/Options/Features tab/Borderless unchecked/OK/Print
Result - a beautiful print like the kind HP is known for. Now, whenever you need to print something on heavy photo paper just select this printer. When finished, go back to your default printer.
It is my sincere wishes that this helps somebody who has been as frustrated as I have been not getting this feature to work. Now onto the business cards solution...

    Thank you for  the information.
Does anyone really think that HP or Avery will print this work around in their documentation?
Does HP OfficeJet 6500 709a printer exist on all software editions from HP? And how did YOU know that "this is a generic printer driver specially made to fix printer issues like this"? No one else figured that one out- who told  you?
"Clean the printer rollers(I cleaned the ones on the back door where you clear a jam) with an electronic cleaning wipe (maybe alcohol and paper towel will work, too). This is because I think the printer has a hard time picking up the heavier glossy paper after some years of collecting soil and dust on the rollers so it slips - just my theory." Problem: people have had the HP business card printing problem with brand new printers- certaintly without years of soil or dust on the rollers.
How should a user, unfamilar with those gyrations you described above, go about using the printer?  The basic issue is that these printers DO NOT work for Avery and other business cards unless you know how to do the actions described.
"The sheet stock business card printing problem you are having is a well documented process or product defect that newer HP printers seem to have.  Others have said that older HP printers did not have this problem.  I echo that experience also.  There are multiple questions on these forums with various answers (revert to older printer drivers, change paper type chosen in printer setup, change brand of card paper) but the end all is that HP printers or all in ones cannot print Avery business card sheet stock with any type of repeatability or consistency due to the wandering margin issue. It is unknown whether this is a software or hardware issue or or paper issue or combination of these."
The best solution seems to be to consider a printer that feeds almost straight through versus up and around. If HP has this type of printer you could consider it. Otherwise there are alternative printer brands that feed straight through that may be better for printing sheet stock business cards.

  • Gallery problems and photo export issues with all images JPG Raw damaged.

I'm starting to panic. I trusted Aperture 3 and upgraded entire library from Aperture 2.0.
Yesterday I uploaded new project from a photoshoot. and today is gone. Just like that. I did some export already before from that project so I know that it was there.
Yesterday I had couple crashes. But it should be saved??
Now I have serious problem. I export any Jpegs from Aperture. and when I want to process them in CS4 photomatix etc I get this http://www.flickr.com/photos/procekim/4360611822/
It does it in 32 and 64 bit? What is the problem? I can expot JPG and raw and get same result. entire gallery from 2000 to 2010 same issue.
I'm badly hurt!!!!!!!!!!!! do you have same problem??

this gave me a scare. I deleted preferences + everything in pro applications. I deleted Aperture and reinstall everything from the disk. Updated library and now it works. I even get my lost project back. It remembered my Places, but not faces, strange.
I have no idea what happened. But from now on I double copy files.

  • Bridge CS4 Photo Downloader issue

If I use Bridge CS4 photo downloader to retrieve images from a CF card, the download appears successful. Bridge and photoshop can process all files without problem from the download directory.
Subsequently, if I use Digital Photo Professional (Canon's provided image browser - known as DPP) to view the download directory, DPP will crash with a "DPPViewer.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close ..." fatal error window.
If I subsequently delete the first file from the download directory, DPP will successfully operate without crashing.
I have performed this test multiple times and it is "reasonably consistent".
If I use PhotoMechanic to download the images (Rather than Photo Downloader), DPP will never have an issue reading all files.
If I change Photo Downloader options to uncheck "Preserve Current File Name in XMP" and "Apply Metadata" to NONE, files can be imported by Photo Downloader and read properly by DPP.
My interpretation of this is that Digital Photo Downloader may have a problem properly downloading the first file from the CF card (hummm. a boundary condition :-) this may be associated with metadata.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

Seems like I have seen posts where the autoload does not work correctly when you plug in a usb device  with 64 bit systems.  This is Windows Os thing.  Might google this to check for solutions.

Under manage storage in settings, I am showing that Photos is taking up 5.1GB of space on my phone, which is prohibiting me from adding music or videos to my phone.  I only have 300 photos in my photo stream, so there is no reason it should be that large.  I have tried deleting photos, and have also gone to my Recently Deleted photo album to clear out the photos I have recently deleted.  Any suggestions?  I am trying to avoid putting the phone back to factory settings and starting over, but there is definitely an issue with my phone thinking there are more photos on it than there actually is.  Any help is appreciated.

I have an 64GB iPad2.  I normally sync my photos from iTunes on my PC. I have about 27,000 photos.  My iPad was experiencing slowness issues since upgrading to iOS8.1.  Today I updated to 8.1.1.
Photo sync from my PC is not working correctly.
It creates the required folders, but the content is empty.

I've tried changing the selected directory in iTunes from which to sync on the PC to one that only has a 1000 or so photos.

That is how it is supposed to work. But I think that you know that. Surely you didn't expect to sync empty folders and have photos appear on the iPad if they were not in the folders that you synced. Maybe I am missing something and if I am please clarify for me.

Once again, I assume that you mean that you created another folder of photos with 1000 or so photos in it. If you created another photos folder, the photos have to reside in that folder or there is nothing to sync. this could be another case where I am misunderstanding ....
I get en error message "The iPad "XXXX's iPad" could not be synced because the sync session failed to finish."

Have you tried quitting iTunes, rebooting your PC and then reset the iPad and try again - after you get this message? Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen.

Am having a problem uploading photos to FaceBook via Lightroom's publish interface. It shows as authorized (which was a problem in itself for a while), but I get a generic "Photo Upload Failed" error from LR4. In addition, JPEGs exported from LR4 will not upload via FaceBook's own interface. This is all new since upgrading to LR4. Windows 7. While it looks like a FaceBook issue, it started with LR4 installation and no one else seems to be having a problem uploading images to FB via Lightroom or otherwise.
