Photo titles clipped in iDVD

My wife just got a new iMac and is trying to get her iPhoto slideshows exported to DVD. All seems to work fine except when played back on TV the photo names are clipped off at the top of the screen(all the TV's in the house do the same) We have the safe area checked and are working in 4:3 ratio. It's very important to have file names included as she is a photographer and this is how her customers order prints. Any ideas?

cwolsen,
Here is the updated procedure - it will give you a black border (or whatever color you use for the mask):
Here is a procedure I put together several years ago to do what you are trying to do that has been changed for QuickTime Pro 7.x. (It may require some modification on your part.
1. Create a 640 x 480 black mask with a slightly lighter black 320 x 240 center in Photoshop. Save it as a JPG file.
2. Open your DiMage X movie in QuickTime Pro. Open the saved mask in another QuickTime Pro player.
3. Select the mask clip and edit->select all and then edit->copy
4. Select the DiMage X clip and then edit -> add to selection & scale
5. Next, select Window -> Show Movie Properties
6. Find the mask video track (Video 2).
7. Click to highlight video track 2 and then click Visual Settings.
8. Change layer setting (bottom center of menu) to 1 (it must be a larger number than the actual movie video track (Video 1)).
9. Click to highlight video track 1 (this should show the original movie).
10. In the Offset window, set the offset to 160 x 120. This will move the movie to the center of the mask.
11. Make sure all tracks are selected in the check boxes.
12. Export it as a DV stream. Bring it into iDVD.

  • Putting Photo Booth Clip on DVD

I folks, is there a way to burn a Photo Booth clip to DVD? iMovie isn't the best for me. While recording in iMovie, the bottom half of the screen keeps jumping left and right. In Photo Booth, the picture remains steady while recording.
The problem in iMovie might be because I'm using a USB webcam rather than a firewire cam.
    Any ideas?

    Hello myheadhurts
As your Mac's Finder > Help shows for "About burning your own CDs or DVDs", there are several ways you can burn files, including a Photo Booth clip to a DVD.
The quickest is just a finder burn. After burning, you can copy or play such a file from the DVD on any Mac or modern PC, but it will not work in many stand alone DVD-Video players. (If you have only one small clip, you can use a CD rather than a DVD. If your file will fit, the file will play from a CD exactly like it would from a DVD.)
If you want to your burned DVD to be a "DVD-Video", import your your Photo Booth clip into iDVD and burn a DVD-Video that you can watch in your home theater player.

  • Displaying Photo Titles and Descriptions in stills in iMovie

Hello, I'm wondering if it's possible to get still photo titles and descriptions from iPhoto to display on Stills inserted into iMovie. I am trying to create slideshows of stills and iMovie is the only system that allows you to modify soundtracks, but it, as far as I can tell, won't display Titles or Descriptions. iPhoto and iDVD slideshows display this info, but you have no control or can't even see what audio files you have inserted.
    Please help!!
    Thanks

I'm wondering if it's possible to get still photo titles and descriptions from iPhoto to display on Stills inserted into iMovie.
I assume you are referrimg to an automatic method of displaying this information and AFAIK there is no such feature currently programmed into iMovie '08. You can, of course manually title each slide.

  • How can I compensate for what a transition takes from a title clip?

I'm putting together, in iMovie 4, a slideshow, consisting entirely of clips from the Photo Pane. I imported my clips to the Viewer, then added cross-dissolve transitions, except where I wanted to create a title. Some clips have the Ken Burns Effect.
Here's the problem: after I add a title clip, then add transitions in front & back of it, the title clip's duration reduces. With the title highlighted, I go back into the Title Pane and increase its duration, but the transition bleeds off the increase, as it re-renders, every time. There's no problem updating a photo clip between two dissolves.
The cross-dissolves are about 1:20 in duration. I want my title clips to be about 2:10 or so. There's also the problem with title clips that their total duration is a combination of speed and pause. So adjusting their duration is complicated, once I get the total duration I want, but then have to try compensating for what the transition will take away.
Has anyone solved this problem for themselves, & if so, what do they suggest?
    HAPPY NEW YEAR!
    David

What if you put a photo down for a set duration, and
then put the same photo down back to back with the
first one, and use the second one to make the
transition with? Then of course, use a "transition"
photo for the next clip, and then back to back with
it, with a secondary clip of the same photo to last
the desired duration before you go on to the next
clip, with a third but same photo dedicated to make
the transition with? And so on...
Your suggestion has helped me in other ways by introducing me to the concept of adding clips to solve problems. I won't get into the details. Lennart, some time ago, suggested the same thing in another context, which worked, but I didn't transfer that knowledge, until now. Thanks.

  • Transfer of video clips to iDVD

Is it possible to transfer video clips to iDVD from a DVD disc from a Sony Handycam DVD202E? There is no computer connection with this camcorder so data transfer would have to be directly from the finalized DVD disc. This does not of course show specific video clips but contains the data in a number of VIDEO_TS folders.

You are going to have to rip the MPEG2 files from the DVD to DV then import that into iMovie or FC then export that to iDVD
    Your options are:
Decoding programs like DVxDVD or MPEG Streamclip (this one is free but you need the Apple MPEG Encoder to use it) and Mac the Ripper
Import the video into iMovie/FCE by playing the DVD thru a camcorder with pass thru capabilies or by using an analog converter
Do a search on any of these for more info
    Cheers

  • Adding photo titles in web gallery iPhoto 8

When I publish photos to the web gallery in iPhoto 8 I have "show photo titles" checked in the options yet the titles never appear in the published album. What am I doing wrong?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. Launch iPhoto and reset your iPhoto preferences. Then reset the gallery settings and republish.
2 - delete the Web Gallery, recreate and publish it.
    See if that will help.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • I have finally figured out how to export an iphoto album so that I can maintain the proper order of the photos after burning the file. How do I keep each individual photo title and description after exporting and burning?

I have finally figured out how to export an iphoto album so that I can maintain the proper order of the photos after burning the file. How do I keep each individual photo title and description after exporting and burning?  Presently after exporting and burning each photo is identified by the file name rather than each individual title description.

File name and Title are not the same thing.
Filename is attached to the Jpeg file in the Finder.
Title is attached to the photo within the Jpeg file - as is the description. These are written to the Exif and IPTC metadata on export.
So: File -> Export. Kind: Jpeg or Tiff and Check the box at 'Title and Keywords'. This will write the Title, keywords and descriptions (though not explicitly stated) to the metadata. This can then be viewed in any app that understand this material.
You can choose, if you wish, to also use the Title as a Filename - that's an option at File Name

  • I want to know how to save photos and clip art to my photo libary.

I want to save different photos and clip art (non-copyrighted) to my desktop photo library. I do not know how to do this. Can someone help me?

  • Kdenlive not rendering with title clip

After doing a system upgrade kdelive will no longer render my project, which rendered fine before the upgrade. After I click render, it either gets stuck in "waiting" or it gives an error saying that rendering crashed. If I turn off the title clip, rendering proceeds as normal. Looking around I saw some people with similar problems fixing it by running kdenlive as root, but in my case that didn't solve anything. Anyone have any ideas?
The kdenlive profile I'm using is HD 1080p 59.94fps and I'm trying to render an H.264 video (although trying other formats encounters the same problem).
    Some relevant package info:
    [root@labby ~]# pacman -Qs kdenlive
    local/kdenlive 0.9.6-2
A non-linear video editor for Linux
    [root@labby ~]#
    [root@labby ~]# pacman -Qs ffmpeg

    local/gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg 0.10.13-1 (gstreamer0.10-plugins)

    [root@labby ~]#
    [root@labby ~]# pacman -Qs mlt
    local/mlt 0.9.0-5
    An open source multimedia framework

    Have you upgraded the system?
I had this same problem until yesterday, only kdenlive did not render at all, with or without title clip. Googling about it, I think it was some kind of conflict with mlt and opencv. Opening kdenlive as root did not work for me. I initially downgraded to the previous version of mlt (0.9.0.1 if I remember cforrectly); with that I could render, but only without title clips present. Solution came with last update of opencv (and re-upgrade of mlt).
Also, while I was looking up this problem, I read about a similar bug being related to the sound, and installed ladspa (just in case all the previous doesn't completely solve your problem).

  • Why is FCPX freezing repeatedly while moving title clips?

    Hello to all.
I am facing an exasperating situation. I am at the tag end of a project and I find that FCPX is freezing whenever I try to relocate a title. Have been forcrd to repeatedly force quit! Have trashed the preferences repeatedly, have restarted and even shut down the computer, have deleted thumbnail data, but, FCPX refuses to work.
Have read other posts in which one gentleman facing a similar problem was able to shift his titles with the inspector window closed. In my case, his method of surmounting the problem has not worked.
Right now I am minded to do this:
open FCPX once again, delete the existing titles, accurately place new titles and renter the text. Shall let you know the progress.
Until then, if there is some useful input in this totally frustrating matter, I would be too happy to lap it up!
    Thanks in advance.

    An update.
I have done this: copy the 'problematic' section of the project into a new project and have tried to edit the title clips in the new project...but this too was not of help.
I noticed that the FCPX would freeze only when a playback is attempted with the clip selected. But it would not whimper were I to move the clips, extend or shorten them.
Upon this realisation, making a 'crude' assessment based upon the audio waveforms, I did my 'rough' editing of the titles...and, the finished work appeared 'decent' enough. The flaws would be certainly noticed by seasoned viewers.
While pondering over this matter, I have this hunch that this erratic behavior of FCPX could have been triggered by my doing this: I had need of placing many titles in the project, and all of the text had to be given [almost] the same size fonts, tracking, face color, outline color and width. I had in an earlier thread asked whether there was any shortcut by which one could get all these parameters into the text without having need to edit each title individually. In that thread I learnt that one needed to do such a 'custom title' in Motion, which I do not have. In a moment of 'carelessness', acting against my better judgment, I did this 'easy' way of gettting things done: copy one title which had been editied and paste it at the required spot on the timeline; this done, I would delete the earlier text and replace it with the new one.
I guess that resorting to this 'easy shortcut' had forced me  to take the 'hard long route'!
Whether this 'logic' of mine regarding the origin of the problem is correct or not, I sincerely hope that Apple would give its fans the happiness of easily adding preset parameters such as font size, face color, outline color and width etc. to one's text from within FCPX itself.
I would also like to hear from other forum members regarding this seriuos matter. From other posts I understand that I am not unique in facing this problem but others too have faced it. For those to whom videomaking is a hobby [I am not one of them], having to face or pass through this kind of problem may not affect their careers adversely, but for those who are professionals [I am not one of them!], whose livelihoods and reputations are at stake, facing this problem would be the equivalent of smelling one's goose being cooked!
I would also like the reader viewing this post to view this short video which has given me so much trouble:

  • Photo titles in Apple TV 2?

Am I missing a setting somewhere? How can I get my photo titles to show up on my Apple TV2? It seems only logical that I should be able to somehow see them when I see them either via the web (Mobile Me) or on my iPhone (Gallery) when synched from iPhoto.

I suspect that you will have to re-edit the metadata to accomplish your goal. As images are copied and moved this is often modified (place/geotag, faces, dates).......... Just a though. You can download the photos and both check it and if necessary change it in iPhoto

  • Removing excess from a title clip

I added a scrolling title clip to my project and used Clip Adjustments to make it 30 seconds, which made the scroll roll at a comfortable pace for readability. The problem is that iMovie added an extra 12 seconds of blank title screen after the last word scrolls off screen. How do I remove the extra time without affecting the scroll speed? Simply dragging the end of the clip shortens it, but it also speeds it up to an unreadable speed. If cropping is the answer, how do I do it? The Help dialog didn't help me. I'm not very adept in the use of iMovie, so please try to help me in simple language!

  • Iphoto slideshow photo titles lost in idvd6

I am creating a dvd project using iphoto slideshows.
When I play the slideshows in idvd6 the photo titles are missing except for the first and last photo in each slideshow.

    Hi, Léonie,
The titles were not the original file names, I have very diligently given all of my photos "proper" titles (so the file names are typically IMG_xxxxx). I have double-checked a number of the affected photos, and the "proper" title shows up fine i iPhoto. For the 75% of the rest of the library, the titles were carried over to Photos (and show when I choose the title metadata to be displayed).
I look at the thread with the automator workflow, and it seems that would have worked nicely if my titles also were file names... When that is not the case, I might have some days work ahead of my copying and pasting manually?

  • No photo titles AT ALL in Photos app shared albums

Is there some hidden setting to turn on the photo titles?

Until Photos called Titles 'titles', anyone I ever spoke to called the filename the title. My mistake in not understanding that Photos ignores the photo filename entirely and 'titles' all the photos as 'Untitled' in fuzzy light grey text, only visible when hovering over the offending item, and not permanently in a useful way.
The filenames are useless in the get info window. If you deliberately or accidentally scroll the thumbnail browser, the get info panel is entirely independent of the app interface and you have absolutely no idea to which image the get info refers to. It's terrible design.
I just want to see the filename under the photo. It's not much to ask. I can't actually see the point of the app, it's like a crappy, feature limited bad imitation of iPhoto - an Apple app that already does everything Photos does, but much better.

  • Photo titles are invisible to Spotlight

For some reason when I do a Spotlight search using an iPhoto title, I don't get any results. I get search results if I use the photo's file name and sometimes even words included in the description, but never using the title. I already tried reindexing the iPhoto library and it doesn't make any difference. I don't know if the fact that I recently migrated all my files from an older MacBook has to do anything with it (I don't think I ever tried it with my old computer).
Does anyone know what can I do to include photo titles in the Spotlight search?

This is a very confused area.
iPhoto is probably not searchable by spotlight. Why? Because Spotlight will not open the file in iPhoto, but instead in the Finder and the iPhoto Library should not be manipulated via the Finder or any other application.
So, if you want to search iPhoto you use iPhoto or any of the Media browsers that integrate with it.
However, if that's the case, how come you can search on the filename?
See what I mean about confused?
    Anyway, to your specific question:
Does anyone know what can I do to include photo titles in the Spotlight search?
    You can't.
    Regards
    TD
