Photoshop actions function keys script

I work with a lot actions organized in multiple action folders. Is it possible to create a Photoshop CC script that will remove every function key shortcuts from the entire Photshop CC Action panel folders?

Give me the prize for answering my own question. Seems there is a "default" setting to "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys." OK, so I guess I want them to be non-standard. Now it works.
Mac Help says "Most function keys on your portable computer serve as specific control keys, such as volume and brightness controls" and "applications may also assign alternate functions to those keys." In fact, the keys by themselves with the default preferences do not serve as volume and brightness controls. Only by using a special option (fn key) do they fulfill the default markings on the keycaps. It seems Apple should not have the check mark to disable the one-press function of these keys. It should be a special selection to disable that and thus require pressing fn also. Any application such as Exposé should give a message at first launch that some special features depend on checking this in System PReferences. It is far better to leave the f-ing keys alone to work as they are marked by default.
Just a heads-up for anyone with this same puzzle. Now I'm off to the feedback page.

  • Actions' function key reminder in PS7

    I have recorded quite a few actions in PS 7 but only recently started making a note of what keyboard shortcuts call what action. As a result, quite a few of the available function keys are 'taken' but I don't know what they do and have so far not managed to find out. Failing all else I can delete the whole lot and start again, making better notes. But I'd rather not. So;
Q: how can I see all the function keys' actions?
    Thanks for any help
ps sorry about the rubbish user name but after too many attempts resulting in user-name-unavailable type messages I lost patience!

  • Bridge and Photoshop Actions

    I have a number of Photoshop actions that run scripts. These scripts have been brought forward from CS and work fine when run inside Photoshop CS2. They are of varying complexity, but I've tested the following with a simple script: alert ("Hello World");
When I run the actions from Bridge, via the Batch command, the file opens correctly in Photoshop and I then get an error "the command scripts is not currently available".
Why is this? Do I need to alter my scripts to run in Photoshop CS2?
Note that when I save the action as a droplet, I can drag files onto the droplet and the script is triggered correctly.

    > Shay, that's exactly how the error arises - as a Photoshop batch there's no problem. Do try saving the action as a droplet and dropping files onto it from Bridge - it's not a perfect solution but can be a helpful workaround.
I just answered this on the PS forum and thought I'd pass this along. If I'm
wrong, I'm sure Bob will correct my analysis...
When you make a call via BridgeTalk from one application to another it uses the
scripting engine to do the communication. So when you make a call from Bridge to
PS to execute an action in PS, the script engine in PS gets fired up and
app.doAction is called to run the Action. One "feature" of PS actions and
scripting is that you can't have a script call an action which then calls a
script, which is is exactly what you are attempting to do here. You're only
workarounds at the moment are to:
    1) have everything done in the action (may not be possible)
    2) have everything done in a script (may be tedious)
    3) have a toplevel script in PS called by Bridge which does what it can and then
invokes actions to do what most of the work, with the restriction that the
action can't turnaround and call a script.
This is not a simple bug for adobe to fix as it gets to the heart of the
    Action/Scripting framework.

  • Mac & Photoshop Function Keys and/or volume

Question for Mac & Photoshop users.. I want to use the Function keys for PS actions.. however I really love the volume buttons for music. If I turn on Use all Function Keys as F1, F2 etc, I can use the Fn keys for PS, but the volume options go away.. Can I have my cake and eat it too? Thanks!

Have you checked the System/Keyboard preference pane to see if the Function key option is checked?

  • Function key actions not working

I’m using Illustrator CC (v. 17.1.0) on an iMac. For ages, I’ve had actions set up. I have function key strokes attached to those actions. Just recently, they stopped working the way I want them to. For example, I have an action where I select text. The action changes the size of the text, and the color. Now, I get the error “The object 'Set color' is not currently available.”
Another example is an action where I center three items along a horizontal line and group them. When I run that action now, I get the message, “The object ‘Alignment’ is not currently available.”
When I recreate the actions (and then the function keystrokes) it works fine. Same exact steps. But I have to recreate my actions/assign function keys literally ever time I re-open illustrator. This is a huge pain. I’ve noticed the actions I have set up that DON’T have keystrokes work fine. So somehow it’s tied to the keystrokes, I think. How can I fix this, as I LOVE having the function key strokes!

  • Turning a Photoshop action into a pixel bender script

We have a photoshop action that takes images and 'plasticifies' them. Specifically the action performs several filters that we're looking to convert into pixel bender scripts so that the action can be performed in Flash. I'm trying to discover if there are existing examples to perform these actions, and if not if it would be possible to create them. The filters that are being used are:
    surface blur
    diffuse
    layer copy
    high pass filter
    layer overlay
    hue / saturation
    shadow / highlight
    unsharp mask
I've attached the script to the post for reference and provided an example below. If this isn't something that we could combine several pre-existing filters together, would someone be up for working with me to create this or provide some guidance on how to move forward?

This is sort of true. We do take advantage of the vector types to generate SSE code, but we do it not only within a pixel, but also across multiple pixels so a pixel1 value within your kernel may be computed with pixel1 values from neighboring pixels to improve performance. In general, it is best to write your code naturally and then only look to optimizing at this level if performance is unacceptable and the more obvious problems (minimizing conditional branching, for example) do not solve your problem.

Kevin, how do you iterate in the Anisotropic Filter?
One the things I miss is to loop a graph or something like that to iterate over the image.
Regarding the Bilateral Filter, My first PB kernel was a Gaussian Blur, just to get the feeling.
At first I didn't use its separability property.
    It was slow, very slow!
For the Bilateral Filter you have to do even more operations. Unless you implemented its "Separable Bilateral" approximation, Or any other known optimization (Grids, Linear Approximation, etc...).
What about the GPU case regarding what I wrote?
Let's set I convert the image into LAB space and perform Gaussian Blur and each time only operate one CurrentPixel.r (The first item in the "Pixel" vector), will that make any performance difference?
Or even make it completely different. Creating a node which take as input image4 and output of image1 (L Channel). Then Gaussian Blur (2 Nodes) on image1, would that be faster (Again, GPU wise)?
    Thanks.

  • How to Attach Script to Photoshop Action or Folder?

I'm not familiar with Applescript at all! However, I downloaded a script for use with Photoshop which crops an image to a specific format. It works great if I've got an image open in Photoshop.
What I can't figure out how to do is to either apply that script to an entire folder to process all images in that folder, or better yet, record a Photoshop Action that uses that script.
How can I use that script to do a batch process from either Photoshop or the Finder?
Thanks for any help for this total newbie.

The Mac I am currently using does not have 'Adobe Photoshop CS3' installed. However, based on [1], the code samples should work. Some editing may be needed, based on your specific requirements.

    tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS3"
    repeat with i in tItemss
set fList to list folder i without invisibles
    repeat with j in fList
    try
    open file ((i as string) & j)
    try
    set docRef to current document
set (docWidth, docHeight) to (width of docRef,height of docRef)
    set minDimension to docWidth
if docWidth > docHeight then set minDimension to docHeight
    crop docRef bounds {(docWidth - minDimension) / 2, (docHeight - minDimension) / 2, (docWidth + minDimension) / 2, (docHeight + minDimension) / 2}
    save current document
    close current document saving no
    end try
    end try
    end repeat
    end repeat
    end tell
    end handle_Items

Save the code as an application (AppleScript 'applet').
You and then either double click on the applet - and navigate to and select a desired folder (or folders), of which its / their contents will be processed; or, you can drag a folder (or folders) onto the applet, of which the folders contents will be processed.

  • How to use the Function keys as function keys instead of action keys?

When I press F1 or any of the other F keys it does what the symbol says on the key (volume/skip track etc).
How do I actually use the F keys and not the symbols?

    Hi again John,
...is there a way to switch that around so I use the "fn" key for sound etc?
    Do the following:
    1. Fire up System Preferences
    2. Select Keyboard & Mouse
    3. Select the Keyboard tab.
    4. Tick the "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" box.
That's it. You have now reversed the default use of the function keys. If you need to increase/decrease sound, brightness etc then press 'fn' plus the appropriate function key.

  • Satellite P870-335 - Function key actions not visible

    Hi
I have a P870-335 in which I placed a SSD disk and installed Windows 8 Pro (now 8.1) and was able to get most devices working with the drivers that I found by the Toshiba autodetect program.
However one of the items still missing is that I can not see/control the functions that are on the Function keys, (like swichting Bluetooth/Wireless). I know from my previous Toshiba laptop that at the moment I press the Fn key I see a OSD that show me the options and the status of them.
I cant find which software I have to install in order to restore this functionality. Somebody got a hint/link for me?
Assume that this software is also available for Windows 8(.1) Pro?

  • How can I use Automator to toggle the Function Keys?

I am trying to create a Automated process to toggle the Function Keys on my keyboard. This is because I use several programs, including After Effects, which use the F1-12 keys, but when I am not using that program I commonly use the Apple-defined shortcuts on the keyboard. I have a full-sized keyboard, hence no Fn key. So that's out right away – I've read several comments on this topic where people suggested that this is the ONLY option. I refuse to beleive that.
Automator contains a "Watch Me Do" feature, which I have tried to use to record this process. Problem is, it never clicks the right object. If I record clicking the dock, the magnification (I suspect) throws off the virtual-controlled mouse and picks the wrong object. If I record the Apple Menu route, it gets it about 1/2 the time.
I think what I'm really looking for is a console command I can feed into the Terminal which toggles the keys. It seems to be that this HAS to be an option, even if it is more than one line of commands. I believe if I can feed this process into Automator, it would work.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance, Mac Geniuses!

iKey lets you define function keys per application. You seem to want to turn on & off the defined apple keys.  Not sure if these keyboard re-mappers will do the trick.
Here is my other most favored application. Of course, I haven't checked these out in newer OS's. I'm a Tiger man myself.
iKey is a front end program that simulates typing and mouse movements. I use iKey to remap the Function keys.
"iKey is an automation utility, a program that creates shortcuts to accomplish repetitive tasks. In essence, an iKey shortcut is a little program in its own right, but you don't need to know the first thing about programming to create an iKey shortcut. All you have to do is put together three necessary parts of a shortcut: One or more commands that give the shortcut its functionality, a context in which it runs, and a launcher that defines how the shortcut is activated."

iKey  has a little more function then the previous free version called youpi key. For many years, I used youpi key before switching to iKey.  It works fairly well for me in MAC OS 10.4 although not officially supported.  The youpi key download is hard to find & no longer here.

I have the common programs that I use assigned to function keys. I have F4 assigned to Firefox. When I want to start FireFox, I press F4. When I want to switch to firefox, I press F4! Starting & switching to an application in Mac OS are the same thing in Mac OS.

       set bounds of Finder window 1 to {-3, 44, 691, 545}
       --set position of Finder window 1 to {33, 44}
       set position of Finder window 1 to {60, 45}
       activate
    end tell
The second portion of this script was generated in the script editor record mode. After I recorded the script and did some editing, I copy the script to ikey/youpi key.
