Photoshop's File: Automate: Create Droplet: is droplet's function reliable?

I've just begun using droplets that Photoshop creates in its Automate submenu (File: Automate: Create Droplet:), and am enjoying the convenience that these droplets afford working with Photoshop actions. However I have misgivings concerning reliability of the droplets' function, (and hope that  someone, either with technical expertise, or else someone who simply has used the droplets a great deal, can give me some insight).
Specifically, my concern is with the kind of the (droplet) application that Photoshop is producing with Create Droplet command, which is kind PowerPC (as is indicated in the System Profiler).
My Photoshop copy is CS4, its publication date 2008; my operating system is Mac Snow Leopard (v. 10.6.8). All of the applications that have shipped with my current os, and all of the up-to-date applications that I have installed, are of application kind Intel, or else kind Universal, and notably PowerPC is not present among them.
The architecture of PowerPC I know to be rather outdated. When I'd purchased my new Mac Pro computer (Intel based), all of application scripts which I wrote with AppleScript Editor on my old PowerMac computer, were dysfunctional when copied onto the new computer, and needed to be rewritten or discarded. (Kind of these problematic applications was PowerPC.)
Don't wish to be fanatical, (and I realize that the droplets may actually work just fine). Still my dread is a scenario, working with droplets, that they (may) produce error in my graphic design files, and when sent to the printer could cause trouble, subsequently trying to look at where the problem is, droplets would NEVER occur to me as source of trouble, and a means to fix be quite evasive.
Leo.

I've now come across several instances of this problem from other people posting on the internet.
My problem is that is adds a .jpeg extension, another one I've seen has a .pdf extension and someone else has had problems with a .abcdp extension always being added. Someone else had a problem with a .com and another with a .exe
Perhaps that once a droplet is saved once with an extension then the script is altered to save all droplet like this? I'm only guessing here...
This doesn't seem to be a new problem either as the .abcdp extension came from PS3, my own problems are with CS3 and the .pdf extension problem mentioned earlier was with CS4.
Unfortunately, I've still not found any answers.

  • Opening .psd file automatically creates a copy of that file on the desktop.

The file doesn't open in Photoshop by default. Instead, it copies the file. The only way I can open the file in Photoshop is if I right-click the file and choose "Open With" – Photoshop for it to actually open in the program.
This is a very weird occurrence. Has this happened to anyone before? Any ideas of how to solve this?

  • 300 MB to 1.2 GB Forte log file automatically created

    General information
    ===================
-One server: Windows NT 4.0 Server Enterprise Edition (service pack 6a), PC/x86, dual Pentium Pro 200 MHz.
-Five workstations: Windows NT 4.0 Workstation (service pack 6a), PC/x86.
    -Forte 4GL 3.0.N.0.
-SQL Server 7.0 (service pack 3), clustered.
-Forte application partitioned into 1 server process (runs on server) and 1 client process (runs on all workstations).
    Has anyone seen this?...
    Problem description
    ===================
About once per month, our Forte server partition log file grows to 300+ MB, and then the process crashes. This problem is not reproducible, and I don't yet know if there is any pattern in the sequence of events that leads to the error. All the log files appear to be similar because the traceback shows the same method.
The error started happening after upgrading from Forte 3.0.G.2 to Forte 3.0.N.0.
All of the client and server log files have the string "<unknown>" where the Forte environment name normally is. I believe that nodemgr.exe crashes, and usually it cannot be restarted. When the Forte Environment Manager is manually restarted, a Windows NT "Services" error window appears that says - "Could not start the Forte Environment Manager 3.0.N.0 service on \\SERVERA. Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly." Rebooting the server always recovers.
Here is an example of the text extracted from one of the huge Forte log files...
    NOTE:
-Some of the text lines may be wrapped (in the actual file, none of the lines are wrapped).
    -forte_ex_274.log was 263,119 KB.
-The string "..." means that many lines are not included.
-All hex values, except for addresses, have been changed to "0x00000000".
-Note that "Page:45713 @ 0x02CA4400" is included, but appears to be empty.

This appears to the general output generated when a partition gets a SEGV or AccessViolation type problem. The runtime code always performs a memory check to determine if a possible cause for the problem was a memory corruption. In this case it thinks it found a problem and is attempting to dump information related to the problem. There was a bug in this routine that caused to dump more stuff than was really needed (I believe that this was fixed in 5.0)
The actual error was someone wrote a 0 on the header of an object that describes the size of the object. Given that this was the first object on the page it could be a problem with someone overrunning the end of an object on the previous page.
This can either be a runtime problem or an application problem. Its a little hard to tell from this output. The best way to collect more information would be to install MSDEV/Visual Studio on the machine and enable
JustInTimeDebugging (this is normally enabled for you) and then add the following environment variable
    FORTE_NOHANDLER=yes
This bypasses the exception handling and causes the MSDEV debugger to start. This should allow you to get a stack trace which will give more clues as to the problem.

  • How to create a typed CTL files automatically?

I make extensive use of vi references and created many strict typedefs
of vi types. The problem is, that everytime, when i changed a vi, which
has a corresponding typedef ctl, i need to update this CTL file manually. I whould like to get the CTL file updated automatically.
I allready found a way, to automatically create a Control (with a
function from the "_NewProbeWizard.llb" library) in a VI, but this
doesn't work for CTL Files (See attachment).

    Creating a Control on a VI.jpg ‏20 KB

You may have to go to the LAVA forum to get a good answer to this Q.
Without getting into scripting you may be able to do this under the right conditions.
    1) First save the type specifier control as a type def and save it.
    2) After ensuring the VI that uses the typedef (created in step #1) is not running use the code you have already to create the the type specifier control on the FP of a .ctl file.
    3) save the new ctl as the name used in step #1
    4) Open the VI that uses the type def and it should re-link to the new type.
I have used techniques like this to dynamically create enums for functional globals. It may work for you.

I'm trying to find a way to drop a file on a droplet and before the action of that droplet finishes,  drop another file on the droplet and have a queue or some other way of photoshop recognizing and processing the second request once the first has finished.  Currently PS CC 2014 just ignores the second file.  I think automator must have a way but have been messing around to no avail.

Ah, I see now what you mean, Marc but I don't know an answer.
Maybe you could try and see what happens if you make two or more droplets
(with identical contents but a different name - so you can put them in the
same place). Not sure if this is even possible but maybe worth trying...

  • Photoshop CS 5 crashes after updating and then using File -- Automate -- Batch

I am running Photoshop CS5 (build 12.0.4 x32) on my XP 32-bit machine and have done so without major problems until about a week ago.
Then all of a sudden when accessing File --> Automate --> Batch the program crashes and I have to force it shutting down manually after which I can restart Photoshop. When trying to access the batch command hereafter the same crash reappears rendering batch commands useless.
I thought about posting here but then decided to reinstall Photoshop again. This enables the fully working software including batch commands once again. However after a short while the update software asks to download and install some patches for all programs. After doing so the same problem happens again in regards to the batch command. Photoshop crashes when accessing it and won't work at all.
I now repeated this procedure twice and have no idea what to do about it.
Is there anybody that has had this experience or knows about a solution?
Do I have to contact Adobe with an error report?
Any help and comment is welcome and mostly appreciated.

    Chris Cox wrote:
Yes, a change in the Adobe update made the existing scanner bug show up more frequently.   No, that does not make your statement correct. The bug exists in the scanner driver, and existed before the Adobe update.
The Adobe update is not the cause of the bug, it just made some unrelated change that made the bug appear more frequently.  That could be something as simple as putting different values in different locations of memory.  We don't know. Only the authors of the scanner driver can know for sure why it is crashing more often now.
Photoshop supports the TWAIN standard, but cannot be responsible for the bugs in the third party drivers that attempt to implement that standard.
The high frequency of bugs in TWAIN drivers is what made us move the TWAIN plugin to "optional" status in the first place -- because too many people were crashing, had a hard time figuring out the cause, and blamed Adobe for something completely beyond our control.
And we already do inform scanner vendors about all the bugs we find in their drivers. But we cannot force them to fix their bugs, nor can we know the nature of all of their bugs to code around them.
I understand that you're angry.  But please stop trying to blame an innocent bystander.
Adobe cannot do anything to fix the bugs in your scanner driver. Only the authors of your scanner driver can fix the bugs in your scanner driver.
Until they provide an update to fix the bugs in the driver, your choices are to keep crashing, or not use that buggy scanner driver.
I am going to make this short.
It depends on how you look at it. From your angle, Adobe did their's and the scanner companies are to blame for their buggy software. What you are saying here would be - if compared - resemble a situation where you would go to a car dealer, buy a car, then drive away just to find that the trailer tow hitch you attached your old trailer to would keep falling off all the time. When confronting the dealer about the issue he would reply to you that you have to talk to the manufacturer of the trailer because the problem is their responsibility. How would you as a client react...?
Maybe it is true that the driver software is buggy. However it still did work though under other conditions before this update. That means that you updated something that made these things appear frequently. Maybe you don't know and only they do. Fair enough. But us customers don't have to work these problems out or live with them nor do we have to use our time on posting and fixing companies' errors and mistakes. That's what we pay you for. We only need to use this application hassle free on the spot. Maybe you should start crash testing in an controlled environment before you apply these updates and then post them. Or make a deal with those companies to do so for you. Maybe they will then ignore you or won't tell you about possible bugs to hike their own skin. Fair enough as well. Create some sort of program, a label or whatever that you apply and hand out only to those companies that are "certified by and working with Adobe software" and that they can put on their products or you on your very own Adobe website for all us customers to see and to use as a type of guidance in order to have working hardware and applications and avoid these errors.

  • Setting up Organizer so it doesn't automatically create file for every document scanned

How do I stop PSE Organizer from automatically creating a file folder and storing it in My Pictures every time I scan a document?

Please repost in the Photoshop Elements forum.

  • Stop LR from automatically creating TIFF or PSD files when opening in PS.

Every time I open a RAW file into Photoshop CS5  from LR3, it automatically creates and saves a PSD or TIFF file. Is there a way to stop lightroom from doing this? When I used LR2, I saved these files only if I choose to. I always convert my files to jpg after I'm done editing in PS and don't need these huge files hanging around.

    Kara_Rue wrote:
The jpgs contain my photoshop edits so that is why I save them. As far as I know, the lightroom data will be retained but any additional photoshop editing will need to be saved in some format. I'm a professional photographer so I like to have the JPGS easily available for when people order prints.
I suppose that is just a difference in our personal workflows. Since JPEG files are compressed with lossy compression, many people prefer to keep the TIF or the PSD that Photoshop creates. That file contains all of the Photoshop changes as well as the original Lightroom adjustments. And there is no quality loss in those files. Then JPEG images are created as needed for printing or sharing on the web. And once that purpose has been met, the JPEG files are deleted. But your workflow seems to be different, and one that you are comfortable with. Sorry for harping like I did. I didn't even think about your need to upgrade ACR. Just be aware that if you decide to upgrade it will be necessary to upgrade both programs in order to keep everything in sync.

  • Photoshop crashes when selecting File / Automate / Batch

Photoshop users still need a fix for Photoshop crashing whenever they select Batch.
I understand that Adobe staff has chosen to blame scanner drivers for the problem. And, I've read the discussions thru last year (very long and boring when all you want is a fix). But, I'm not settled on several things which do not add-up.
First, I'll review the symptoms for the sake of all interested readers. Photoshop users have reported Photoshop crashing whenever they select File / Automate / Batch from the menu for years. This problem got much worse (widespread) since the release of version 12.0.4. The problem apparently affects only those with Train compatible scanners and who installed Adobe's optional Twain plugin. I never read how anyone came to this conclusion, but scanner drivers are being blamed. The accepted work-around is to disable or remove Adobe's Twain plugin.
Second, I want to point out that Photoshop works normally when using the Twain plugin. I can scan images and they are imported directly into Photoshop without any problems. This was the case before the 12.0.4 update and is still the case now.
Third, I want to pose my most pressing question. What does selecting "Batch..." have to do with scanner drivers? In other words, what possibly could Photoshop be doing with scanner drivers when selecting "Batch..." that it does not do when actually does use the drivers?
Lastly, I'll point out that I am a software developer of over 30 years. So, I understand how it might somehow work out in the details that the source of the problem really is buggy scanner drivers. However, as a programmer with a lot of experience dealing with problems common in device driver API's, I know that good practice is to expect anything. If Photoshop begins a process that calls out to someone else's software API, it should cushion that call with proper exception error handling. All processes should execute with an "if all else fails" contention.

    >> What does selecting "Batch..." have to do with scanner drivers?
When running the actions for the Batch command, Photoshop updates it's menu/command state to check which commands are enabled or disabled based on the document state being changed by the actions.  Part of that update is calling the scanner interface to see what is available or not, and at that point some drivers crash.  Since the crash occurs in third party code executed within Photoshop's context - there was not much Photoshop could do to recover (there was exception handling, but it couldn't work across OS and DLL boundaries).
In Photoshop CS6, we spent quite a bit of time figuring out why they were crashing (apparently there was some assumption about the application GUI state), and how we could avoid them crashing in those circumstances - and now CS6 avoids the crashes in the Batch command even with the TWAIN plugin and drivers are loaded.

  • Editing text in Photoshop CS3 file causes crash. File originally created in Photoshop CS6

Trying to edit text in Photoshop CS3 file causes a crash - Tried on multiple PC's
File originally created in Photoshop CS6 with "Maximise PSD/PSB File Compatibility" set at "Always".

Interestingly I have found that if I modify a document in CS6 from an earlier CS3-CS5 document and save it - it works fine. But if I create a new document in CS6 the issue persists.
Looks like I will be modifying old documents for the time being
Would be grateful for some advise eon this.

  • Photoshop CS5 closes when selecting "File-Automate-Batch"

I am using Adobe Photoshop CS5 (v12.0.4 x32) under Windows XP Pro SP3. When I select “File-Automate-Batch”, a window pops up saying:
Adobe Photoshop CS5 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
The choices to continue are “Send Error Report” or “Don’t Send” but with either selection, Photoshop closes. This happens even with no images open.
What do I need to do to fix this problem?
Thanks to anyone who can help me out.

From reading the different posts about this problem, the answer seems to be removing the Twain plugin resolves the issue
or possibly updating your scanner drivers. Have you installed the optional Twain plugin into photoshop cs5?

  • Snap file is created automatically on my SharePoint database ?

    Hi,
On My SharePoint Database a snap file is created which consumes lots of space and the performance of server is degraded.
The snap file is created automatically and its also removed automatically after 1 day.
I am new to SQL and won't find any scheduled task for snap file under SQL .
I had checked on technet and won't find an appropriate solution, why snapshot file is created.
The SQL server version is 2008 R2 and SharePoint version is 2013.
Also due to snap file sometime I am unable to take backup of database with DPM (Data Protection Manager).
    Thanks,
    Nadeem A

    Hi Nadeem Ansari,
A take Snapshot operation creates .vmdk, -delta.vmdk, vmsd, and vmsn files. You should ensure the type of snapshots file.According to your description, the snapshot file was created automatically, and there are no any scheduled task for the snap file in
SQL Server instance. As other post, you need to verify if there is a job about back up your back up a database to a snapshot in SharePoint Server by using SQL Server tools. And verify if the snapshot file was created by others, and if it is file system snapshots
    file.
For more information about snapshot files, you can review the following article.
